What did the prez have to say to the UN? Is it conciliatory? Or hawkish?
FULL TRANSCRIPT: President Obama’s speech at the U.N. General Assembly – The Washington Post.

I know you have been bombarded with stories on the DC shootings and the approaching debt debate and Syria has slid into oblivion, for now, but that could change any day…..Iran has just had a presidential election recently and NBC News has snagged the first interview with the new prez…….he was asked lots of questions about stuff but the one that I was interested in was when Curry asked him if Iran was chasing a nuke weapon………
(Newser) – If Iran’s more moderate new president is to be believed, the US doesn’t have to worry about Tehran pursuing nuclear weapons. “We have never pursued or sought a nuclear bomb, and we are not going to do so,” Hasan Rouhani tells Ann Curry of NBC News. “We solely are looking for peaceful nuclear technology.” He also dismissed the idea that President Obama looked weak on Syria, with words that are hard to imagine coming from predecessor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad:
- “We consider war a weakness. Any government or administration that decides to wage a war, we consider a weakness. And any government that decides on peace, we look on it with respect to peace.”
Of course, Iranian officials have insisted previously that they have only peaceful nuclear intentions, notes Reuters, but Rouhani’s comments are seen as a further thawing of relations with the West in general and the US in particular. He described a recent letter from President Obama as “positive and constructive” and said “it could be subtle and tiny steps for a very important future.” Rouhani will be in the US in less than a week to address the UN General Assembly.
Could it be? A new prez and a new direction for their policies?
Personally, I think he was just trying to get exclusive access to the American people. He is trying to soften their tone while a continuation of policies is assured……he even went so far as to send a “friendly” greeting to Israel…..you heard me!
This is so much theatrics on the part of the Iranian prez……to begin with…he is NOT the power the clerics hold all the power and I have not heard a word out of them that would lead me to believe anything this man says……
Does anyone have another point of view they would like to share?
This post was a draft I saved and wanted to post it a couple of weeks ago….but circumstances put the kybash on that…first it was the CWs in Syria and before that went cold it was the shootings in DC and before that could cool we went on to the CR from the House….in other words all the silly games that can be played by Congress and their enablers…the media…..so now would be a good time to do my best…..
You we have all heard the silly scandals that have rocked the news for years now….most of them are the product of the warped sense of morality that conservs have….none of which is based in reality……but we will set that aside and talk about their so called “ideology”……….don not hurry if you cannot grasp it now….you will in the coming months as the mid terms approach…….
Let’s just look…..very simply at the Big 4 of what the conservs call ideology……..
Less regulation of business – companies should be allowed to prosper (and fail) on their own. If they make a stupid business decision, they should be allowed to fail. This isn’t to say that conservatives believe that ALL regulation should be done away with (though some do). In general, conservatives are also opposed to bailouts. And this is what gave us the meltdown of 2008……with help from the so-called libs of the Clinton years…..
Fewer government programs – conservatives believe that, in general, the private sector can do a better job than the public sector. If a private sector company can do something well, then the government should not be involved. And we see what a dynamite job privatization has done in the past…..
Smaller “social safety net” – conservatives believe that the “social safety net” shouldn’t necessarily take care of everyone, or take care of some people with ALL of their needs. While conservatives may believe that programs should take care of people, this care shouldn’t be free (in most cases), and shouldn’t be long-term. For instance, conservatives advocated welfare reform in the 1990s, saying that welfare should be short-term help, and shouldn’t completely support someone long-term. Another plank that has NO footing in reality……society craps on the people and the people are some how to blame……
More “freedom” – not everything in life needs to be equal or fair. Each person does what they want to do, and they reap the consequences of their actions. So pretty much according to conservs equality is an out dated concept……
There you have it planks for the next 1000 years of conserv candidates……if I recall correctly there was another guy that thought his ideology would last a 1000 years…….what was his name again? it is on the tip of my tongue….
