Daily Agitator
Recently a reader, Terrance of Right Libertarian, (wordpress blog) had a rant on his site about abortion and Planned Parenthood and while we may not agree on a whole lot….he did give me an idea……for that I say thanx…..
We hear this daily and over and over during successive news reports…..so much it is quickly becoming nauseating……it is used for budget arguments….war arguments…..it is a useful slogan…..but sports fans, what is meant by the term?
First of all, as I understand it, is a government in which anything more than minimal governmental intervention in personal liberties and the economy is generally disallowed by law, usually in a written constitution. Is that the way you understand it?
And then I found, “American Conservative Values….which states……
People who believe limited government are people, everyday people, who don’t want every aspect of their lives controlled by the government.
But is government intervention into a persons choice limited government? How about telling people who is to be your nuptials partner? How about which religion is evil and which is good? Maybe what is proper reading material? We could go on….but you have the idea…
So, what constitutes “limited government”?
I have said on many occasions….it is either all in or all out…..meaning either you want the government to make your decisions for you or you do not….and that means every decision…..not just the ones that you feel strongly about…..
If you are unwilling to butt out of everyone’s business, then please STOP using the term “limited government”……..So like Terrance I want to say STOP using the term you know it is a LIE…it is NOTHING but a slogan that has NO foot in reality!
I agree. Conservatives do not truly believe in limited government. They believe in “limited for as long as I agree” government.
Remember the who healthcare debate? They were saying that government should not be getting between doctors and patients. Well, that is up until it comes to pregnancy then they want to stick their nose and force women to give birth in spite of whether or not she had a choice in the child’s conception.
How about drugs? Should I ever decide to take a toke of Mary Jane, why should that even be of concern of the government? I am not affecting anyone but myself. Of course, that offends them thus they jail everyone.
Hear about Brewer’s latest? She is wanting to assess a fat tax.

Terrant….we agree….drugs…as long as I doing it to myself then it is none of anyone’s business…..marriage? that is truly none of anyone’s business……like I say…..all in or all out….no in between….
Thanx for the link…..I wish I could say something positive about Brewer……not happening!
Terrant: Not that I’m fat (or live in the US, let alone Arizona), but I wouldn’t mind a “fat tax” as long as she wouldn’t mind paying an “ugly tax”, a “loud mouth tax”, and perhaps an “I know she’s spouting bullshit because her mouth’s open tax”.
You are ABSOLUTELY right!
Lobotero: I agree with you, but only on the “all out” side. If you’d lived under UK’s Labour administration you’d think you were back in the old East Germany – ugh! Talk about meddling in things that were none of their f*cking business!
The new government in the UK is struggling to unravel the unbelievably invasive tendrils of their probing into the people’s personal lives, but it’s one hell of a job.
I know what you mean…..”ALL OUT” is mine too…..while some may call me a radical….I believe that if I am doing something to myself or with a consenting adult…then it is NONE of anyone’s concern! I am afraid that it is becoming the opposite in the US….we have lots of conservs that are willing to insert themselves in things that do not concern them….by them I mean the government….
Actually, what the US seems to me to have at the moment is VERY limited government – if any at all. MY, view is that limited government is exactly what we want – but that’s a STRONG government with the sphere of what they may interfere with being extremely limited – a very different thing…
I think we have a dysfunctional government……look at the new budget…..lots of spending there…..big government is alive and well
