First of all, if anyone out there knows what the term “teabagging” means then keep it to yourself, but you will understand why I found the term “teabaggers” so amusing……
This past summer we had our protests….fondly known as the teabagger protests…..these people met and marched and protested and yada yada….but what does that have to do with the Federalist Papers?
Federalist #10:
Madison begins perhaps the most famous of the Federalist papers by stating that one of the strongest arguments in favor of the Constitution is the fact that it establishes a government capable of controlling the violence and damage caused by factions. Madison defines that factions are groups of people who gather together to protect and promote their special economic interests and political opinions. Although these factions are at odds with each other, they frequently work against the public interests, and infringe upon the rights of others.
Read it again….James Madison did a pretty good job of describing the “teabaggers”.
First this faction known as “teabaggers” went after Obama because of non-existent taxes…then they went after Obama over health reform….now they are after Repubs that they feel do not stand with the GOP on other issues….they are attacking people like Lindsey Graham as a RINO…only a matter of time before they hit on the two Senators from Maine….
Okay, I guess that Federal #10 by Madison was basically about those factions within the government….but if Madison were alive today he would put these “teabaggers” in the same category….Fed 10 was a call for bi-partisanship, Madison saw the dangers of being partisan…..
Teabaggers, of course there are many others, but for the sake of this post, it is they, are part of the factions that Madison was referring to in #10…..these people are forcing the country into two seperate camps and in doing so are forcing partisanship…….
If Madison was writing this today….he would be referring to all those that are fighting against the will of the people…that was my scholarly reaction…..now for the real deal….the founders, including Madison, their thoughts were never what was best for the people, but rather what was best for the government and the country…..the people were a necessary evil that had to be dealt with…..
But the teabaggers and others are using the Constitution to defend what they are attempting to do…….(that is for another post)…….
The purpose of this current government is to become a bigger government regardless of the welfare of the citizens. Of course, illegal immigrants, foreigners on permit and banana republic dictators are to be given consideration in all decisions. The concept of citizenship as a earned and legal designation is also a quaint old concept. So we can consider terrorists with permits issued under false pretensesto be given full rights and privileges of citizens. As our sons and daughters are dying in service to our nation, we can take the time to reflect, ponder, and reconsider why they are in the front lines of terrorists killing them at this moment.
The TEA party is not a political movement. It is a spontaneous response to endless government mandated programs that suck the energy from our private enterprise. Of course there is no private enterprise anyway, as the government mandates take priority over individual initiative. Kudo’s for medical marijuana as that is a growing industry under the government’s protection.
“Spontaneous response” – yeah right! And I’m Daddy Christmas – NOT!
Whilst I agree with most of the AIMS of what you say, these people are about exactly what the original Boston Tea Party was about (and everything in between) PROFIT FOR THE WEALTHY!
I have no argument with that and, to me, it’s a perfectly valid ambition – except that they are hiding behind constitutional matters and other political bullshit (just as the originals did) and deviously using ordinary people to fire the half-truth bullets they are making.
THAT, to me, is dishonest and cowardly! 👿
hoboduke, nice to have you visit…….this is a good subject that can be debated for , well forever, I just do not see the spontaneity that some say it is….when you have groups like Freedom Works asign their name to it….it just does not fly with me….
Not sure the reference about “the originals”? You mean our founding of the constitution that started our country? I love the brilliant academics that know all the problems caused by the founders of our country and all the ills they created. Ok. Give me the new constitution that will keep this country going! Anyone can gripe about stuff, like the TEA people and the socialist academics. Who is applying the real world solutions in the streets and town halls across the country?
If I had to pick who would be invited into my camp, Todd and Sarah Palin are fine by me. All the brilliant problem solvers can’t find their way around the real world. They need professor paychecks since they can’t cut it on their own.
Oh dear… You are of course entitled to your opinion. If that’s what you think then that’s OK too – it’s none of my business anyway.
However, there is one small thing that IS my business and concerns me – your apparent belief that world solutions can be found in Town Halls. That just doesn’t happen anywhere on the planet and certainly not in America, not least because the USA is not the world. It may be YOUR world perhaps, but not THE world, which is much bigger!
Apart from that, I don’t think there’s really any point in me commenting further, is there? So I’ll just shut up and say thanks for the discussion and perhaps we can at least agree to differ.
PS: I’m not and never have been what most people would call an “academic”, nor (thank God) am I a politician!
When did being an academic become a dirty word in the US? Would you point be different if they reinforced your point of view?
Er… I presume that’s directed at hoboduke because you know that’s not my opinion 🙂
Crap!…yes it was…it is too early here….caffeine was not ready….sorry for the mix up….
