Is America Dying?

Since the election we have had some dire predictions about the direction of our country.

Needless to say that there are a few folks who are not pleased with the direction the US is traveling…..there is much that is not right….but will it kill the nation of democracy?

Behind the vulgarity and racism of Trump’s America, a different vision of what it means to be an ‘American’ is rising.

This is a good essay that, if read, will make people ask questions about what the Hell is going on in our country.

In a characteristically timely and insightful essay for The New York Times, Pankaj Mishra has recently mapped out the tortuous passage of the United States from exceptionalism to what he now sees as a turn towards nihilism. He rightly identifies that “extravagant promises by ruling elites, and their unexamined assumptions, are at least partly to blame for this moral breakdown in the world’s most powerful country”.

Mishra shrewdly narrows in on the moment when the eminent American public intellectual “Walter Lippmann worried that the promise of private wealth creation was a weak moral basis for a national community. For many mid-century thinkers, nihilism, a catastrophic breakdown of faith in national ideology and institutions that had occurred in Europe, was also a possibility in America”.

Why Are Republicans So Cruel?

I have seen and heard many accounts of what the GOP has in store for the country and in that time I have heard many ask the question….why are Repubs so cruel?  Why is that they hate the poor?

You know that is a great question and one that I did not have an answer to but I have thought on this to see where it would take me.

In the 50’s the GOP was soundly in the category of “on the people’s” side….but what the hell happened?

I have my opinion but I am biased and should not be allowed to voice my opinion.

Let’s look at today’s GOP……

Republican Paul Ryan, like most other members of the United States Congress, is a millionaire.Christa Patton is 68 years old. She is frail and no longer able to leave her home. She lives on a fixed income. Patton told Van Jones on a recent episode of his CNN show “The Messy Truth” that she would not be able to eat without the Meals on Wheels program.

Paul Ryan is the speaker of the United States House of Representatives. By his own account, in college he used to hang out with his friends and drink beer while sharing his dreams of cutting Medicaid. When Ryan was 15 years old, his father died from a heart attack caused by alcoholism. Ryan and his family then received his father’s Social Security survivor’s benefits. Ryan used that money to attend college. This was not the only money that Paul Ryan received from federal government. His family built its wealth from receiving government contracts.

Is He “Raging Mad”?

The term that gets so much ink these days is “Deep State”.  It is used ad nauseum (I’m guilty of it) but all that usage does anyone real know what is written about….what is the “Deep State”?

Simply put……” a political situation in a country when an internal organ (“deep state”), such as the armed forces and civilian authorities (intelligence agencies, police, administrative agencies and branches of governmental bureaucracy), does not respond to the civilian political leadership.”

And that is what so many are accusing the situation in DC these days….Trump is pissed these days (probably be something else next month) that all the leaks are making him look bad in the eyes of his adoring public…..

One clear narrative has emerged in the wake of a weekend in which President Trump accused former President Obama of tapping his phones: Trump wasn’t just in a bad mood over the last few days, he was livid—or “steaming, raging mad,” as a piece at the Washington Post puts it. Coverage:

  • By most accounts, this was set off by Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ decision on Thursday to recuse himself from any Russia investigation. Trump felt he caved to pressure instead of defending himself, and he went “ballistic” at senior staffers in the Oval Office on Friday morning, reports ABC News.
  • “Nobody has seen him that upset,” an unnamed source tells CNN, which has a video shot from outside a White House window of the meeting. See it here.
  • The New York Times says his “foul mood” remained as he left for his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida for the weekend, and the story says it spilled over to Saturday morning, when he woke and began tweeting about Obama.
  • Friend Christopher Ruddy, chief executive at Newsmax, saw him on the golf course Saturday. “He was pissed,” Ruddy tells the Post. “I haven’t seen him this angry.” The Post has the most detailed account of the president’s weekend, which it says was fueled not just by Sessions but by Trump’s growing anger about what he views as the opposition of the “deep state” (entrenched bureaucrats and intelligence officials) to his presidency. That narrative in particular is reportedly a big one being pushed in private meetings with Trump by aide Steve Bannon. Read the story here.

Trump told Ruddy he would be “proven right” about the Obama surveillance, and a White House official tells Axios that Trump is “absolutely convinced” of it. “The president just has a great nose for these things,” said the official, adding that “it’s the bureaucratic leaks—the deep state—that bother him most.”

This is a fight that need not be fought.

This saga is far from over…..Trump needs to calm down and think before engaging the Twitter fingers.

This is a fight that I do not believe he can win.

2017–Sh*t Happens

Does anyone remember back to the Dark Ages……the Obama years?  2009 the Dems would try to hold their local town halls for a meet and greet with their voters…..they were disastrous….yelling, screaming, chanting and other assorted chaotic meetings.

My my….how history repeats itself.

The Dems were spineless in their 2009 town halls and in 2017 the Repubs have gone spineless at their town halls…..

Republican lawmakers around the country are facing tough and often angry questions from constituents who are packing town hall meetings or showing up at their offices.

Among their grievances is that the GOP plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act, or “Obamacare,” with no replacement.

The pushback echoes the same raucous confrontations that Democrats faced in 2009, when tea party activists sprang into action to oppose what they saw as dangerous government overreach by President Barack Obama.

Fascinating!  Both parties catching grief over the same subject only 8 years apart.

What does this tell us?

One, the politicians are finding ways to avoid the voter.

Two, politicians regardless the party are spineless.

Will There Be Political Civil Wars?

This election has seen just about everything possible when it comes to political theory and action.  We have huge differences within the Democratic Party…..and the GOP has not fared too well either….both parties have deep divides  and depending on the outcome of this election could erupt in a political civil war within the parties……

First the GOP….since Trump became the nominee there have been widening chasm in the different factions within the party…….and it looks as if a long predicted interior revolt is simmering……

Whom among us, upon hearing of the grave and perhaps existential threats now facing the Republican Party, is entirely immune to the siren song of schadenfreude? Who from the liberal classes can entirely resist the temptation, when reading about the bitter divisions now rending the GOP, to mutter, “Now that’s a god damn shame,” and then issue forth with a soft and mordant chuckle?

And as Donald Trump spirals down ever further, his descent into humiliation propelled by his own pheromonal and lubricious self-regard, what right-thinking human being can resist whispering a quaint saying of yesteryear? You know the one:

But what about the Dems?

The primaries showed the 2 wings within the party and even though Bernie lost and then endorsed Clinton there still a wide divide in the people within the party…..to the point that they also could be looking at an interior struggle…….

As I peruse the receipts of corruption & betrayal otherwise known as the Podesta email leaks, it seems clear as day that there never was & there will never be a place for young people, progressives, socialists, environmentalists or anti-war activists in the democratic party — in fact, it seems the democrats have earned their place beside our wealthy rulers by subverting & incrementalizing[note¹] people’s movements for social, racial, environmental, & economic justice. With every new leak, the evidence of the party’s corruption becomes harder for even their co-conspirators in the corporate media to spin or ignore — but when will their voters abandon them?

Personally I think that an internal struggle within the parties could be good for the system…..and since I am still a radical deep down……I like the thought of this possible civil war.

I think more media types should be appalled at the content of their reports…….but this is a little tipped to crazy……

Always Looking For Good News

The world is choke full of bad news…..from starvation to pandemics to war to just plain stupid violence……so when I rad a piece that I consider good news I will always share it with my readers…and yesterday I saw a report that made me smile……

Tough times for the far right? The number of militias, skinhead gangs, and other extremist groups in the US dropped last year for the first time since 1999, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. The hate-group watchdog found that the number of extreme-right groups dropped around 14% to 2,035, though it says the fall followed “four years of explosive growth,” reports CNN. The number of organizations classed as hate groups dropped 7% to 939—up from just 457 in 1999. “Patriot” groups dropped by 19% to 1,096, but there were only 149 such groups in 2008. The drop is owed to many factors, including internal squabbles, legal troubles, the improving economy, widespread demoralization at President Obama’s re-election—and the adoption of some extremist policies by mainstream politicians, the SPLC says. But despite the drop in numbers, the center warns that far-right extremists are still a serious threat, reports the Los Angeles Times. “The radical right is growing leaner and meaner,” a senior fellow at the center says. “The numbers are down somewhat, but the potential for violence remains high.”

Like I said good news…..but how long will it last?  We are not far away from another presidential election and the possibility of an up-tick in these groups could be on the horizon.

Or could this be the beginning of a country of harmony?  Love is out of the question, so I will settle for a little harmony…..maybe then the people will become more important than ideological bullsh*t.

No Argument? Spew Hate!

Some degree of hate has always been there in the political realm…..but in the last few years it has ticked up to the point that it is NO longer amusing.  Surely you have seen it also….you know libs are brain dead……conservs are retards…….so on and so forth….yada….yada…..

I remember back during the days of George 1….then Clinton and on to GW……everyone one of them was setting the country on a course of ruin……but I did not hate them….I did question their sanity at times over the policies they pursued……but from me there was NO hate.

Back in those days I was writing endlessly to the Letters to the Editor….so many in fact that they tried to limit my letters to 2 a month…..so being a devious little turd…..I started written under several pen names to get my views out there…..even in those days right wingers hated…..they would insult, as usual, but seldom had any ideas what they were writing about…….then I found blogging……and dammit I found a whole new dimension of hate……and as usual insults with NO actual debate just flinging insults……as far as I am concerned insults and hatred are NOT an argument……just illustrates the little intelligence the person actually is grasping……

I seems that hatred is becoming the norm instead of the exception……..

You’re a “hater,” according to a new poll, and odds are, if there were an election today, you’d vote for a Republican in your House district. Some 72% of haters would choose a GOP rep today, the Washington Post-ABC News poll finds. The proportion who’d go Democrat? Only 14%, the Post reports. Some 34% of haters are Republicans, while 38% are independents with Republican leanings. Some 71% are against ObamaCare. And they’re a powerful group, covering a third of voters, up from 28% in 2010. In short, per Sean Sullivan and Scott Clement: Even if Republicans haven’t had the best year, “these voters will come home in the end.”

Okay let’s talk bout the hatred for the prez, shall we?

Surely one has heard all the moronic ramblings of hatred……Obama is a socialist (this shows a serious lack of intelligence)…..the prez is gay or a Muslim or born in Kenya….even regurgitation that is is a dictator……these are all bullshit reasons….you know it and I know it….people use these because they are afraid to spout the real reason it could cost them in votes or cash or celeb status…..but there was one person that spoke the truth…….

There are probably all kinds of great responses a teacher can make to a student who says he wants to grow up to be president. “We don’t need another black president” would not be among them. A white teacher in Fairfield, Ohio, has been suspended without pay and faces dismissal after doing just that, reports the Journal-News. The local board of education took action after four students who overheard the conversation backed up the allegations against veteran freshman teacher Gil Voigt. The board took their word over Voigt’s, who said he got misquoted, reports the Cincinnati Inquirer. He can still appeal the ruling. “He was talking to some students and said some things that were racially insensitive,” says the school superintendent. “We just felt this teacher had crossed the line.” It probably didn’t help Voigt’s case that he had been disciplined in 2008 for making an “inappropriate racial comment.”

This guy is a twat….but at least he is honest on the reason for his hatred of Obama……very few are that honest…….maybe if they were we would take them a little seriously………

Ever Want To Choke Someone?

There are times when you see some jack off on the tube and you just cannot help yourself and you start screaming at the tube….knowing that absolutely NO one is gonna hear you….but damn it feels good!

I have a foam brick that I have had for years and when the need comes over me I yell and throw it at the screen…..feels go but not as satisfying as I would have hope…….

There has got to be a way to satisfy one’s need for confrontation…….guess what?  I FOUND IT!

(Newser) – Today’s shutdown-related media darling looks to be a new website called DrunkDialCongress.org. Its creators want you to vent some rage at a member of Congress over the shutdown, and if you’re three sheets to the wind while doing so, all the better. It works like so: You call up the site, plug in your phone number, and get a call-back with a slurred automated message. “Is this government shutdown making you want to drink?” it asks. “When I drink I like to tell people what’s on my mind.” After that, your call gets forwarded to the office of a random House member. The left-leaning Revolution Messaging is behind the site, but the calls go to Democrats and Republicans alike, notes MarketWatch.

So far I have used it twice….damn I feel soooooooo much better……try it!  You will like it!

He Is Damn Mad!

I have been railing against the partisanship and the do nothing bunch of idiots we elect….they have done NOTHING to solve any of the country’s problems…..none have any solutions…..and zero ideas how to put the US back on the right track……

I have always appreciated MSNBC’s Dylan Ratigan and yesterday he went off on Congress and their lame ass solutions…..a great rant….a great vid….and a great point……he like the rest of us are sick and tired of the high paid lay abouts that we call representatives…….watch the video…….
