Arrest The SOBs!

I wish I could write something good about GOP candidates….I really do…..but they just cannot keep their mouths shut long enough for us non-GOP types to find something positive.

As a historian, I really would like a historian to be in the fore front of politics, but I wish in vain….we do have a historian running but he is such a douche that I could find nothing good to ever say…his historic fats are steeped in revisionism…..he sees history the way he wants to see it and NOT from anything near reality….

Yes, I am talking about Gingrich!

His latest f*ck up is about judges…..he said…..

SCHIEFFER: Let me just ask you this and we’ll talk about enforcing it, because one of the things you say is that if you don’t like what a court has done, the congress should subpoena the judge and bring him before congress and hold a congressional hearing. Some people say that’s unconstitutional. But I’ll let that go for a minute.
I just want to ask you from a practical standpoint, how would you enforce that? Would you send the capital police down to arrest him?

GINGRICH: If you had to.

SCHIEFFER: You would?

GINGRICH: Or you instruct the Justice Department to send the U.S. Marshal. Let’s take the case of Judge Biery. I think he should be asked to explain a position that radical. How could he say he’s going to jail the superintendent over the word “benediction” and “invocation”? Because before you could — because I would then encourage impeachment, but before you move to impeach him you’d like to know why he said it.
Now clearly since the congress has….

SCHIEFFER: What if he didn’t come? What if he said no thank you I’m not coming?

GINGRICH: Well, that is what happens in impeachment cases. In an impeachment case, the House studies whether or not — the House brings them in, the House subpoenas them. As a general rule they show up.

Let me help out a bit…….Article III is designed to guarantee independence from people like Gingrich so that judges can rule in favor of the Constitution and, yes, at times take positions disliked by the majority.

Scary, apparently Gingrich does not grasp the concept of three separate branches of government and he is a historian!

Again, I apologize for I really want there to be a descent candidate….but you guys are soooooo SCREWED!

The Man Who Invented Supply Side Economics

Last week the country’s most egocentric person shown just how much he thinks he is far superior to others…………..when he stated……

“I helped Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp develop supply side economics.”

His small attempt to show that he is the man with the big ideas and the forward thinking process……all this may be just the attempt to be more important than he really is or he could very well believe that he is all that…..but the truth is he is delusional….

Supply Side Economics is a school of macroeconomic thought that argues that economic growth can be most effectively created by lowering barriers for people to produce (supply) goods and services, such as lowering income tax and capital gains rates, and by allowing greater flexibility by reducing regulation. According to supply-side economics, consumers will then benefit from a greater supply of goods and services at lower prices. Typical policy recommendations of supply-side economics are lower marginal tax rates and less regulation.

The intellectual roots of supply-side economics have also been traced back to various early economic thinkers, such as Ibn Khaldun, Jonathan Swift, David Hume, Adam Smith, and Alexander Hamilton……….the term “supply side” (“supply-side fiscalists”) was first used by Herbert Stein, a former economic adviser to President Nixon, in 1976, and only later that year was this term repeated by Jude Wanniski. Its use connotes the ideas of economists Robert Mundell and Arthur Laffer.

Okay, that is enough….with that short intro to supply side economics did anyone see the names of Ronald Reagan or Jack Kemp or the professed father of supply side, Gingrich mentioned?

Once again we see that the Newt-ster has an over-rated sense of accomplishment……surely the GOP can find someone other than this bloated wind bag to support…..if not, then the Party is truly in a sad state of disarray…….

Now I see why witches use Newt parts in their incantations…..apparently it is the only way to shut one the Hell up!

The Man Who Defeated Communism

I know that I have been a bit mean to the leading GOP candidate, Newt Gingrich,  in the past and I am not proud of it but I wish I could say something kind on his behalf but alas….I CANNOT!

Personally, I think he is an arrogant and demented little toad…..his most recent delusion was that he helped defeat communism…..his exact quote was…..

“I helped Ronald Reagan and Jack Kemp develop supply side economics. I helped lead the effort to defeat communism in the Congress.”

I believe that in his own mind he believes exactly what was said….but the facts do not quite confirm his assertion….

One indicator that has been tabulated, if not quantified, to everyone’s satisfaction is that of the Soviet economy. It is know, for example, that in the 60s and 70s Soviet productivity in steel and coal caught up with and even surpassed that of the United States. But declines already had commenced in labor productivity and the quality of machine tools, while advances in science and technology increasingly proved illusory.

Nevertheless, economic reports drawn by Western experts basically found that the Soviet situation, while somewhat gloomy, was still redeemable. These half-way optimistic measurements were even seized upon by the Soviet leadership to buttress their own traditionally overly optimistic assessment. Consumer goods, meanwhile, increased in number during these years but the distribution system was so broken down that milk rarely got delivered before souring and, though Soviets produced more shoes than anyone else in the world, customers were forced to stand in line time and again to buy several pairs because the sizes were so askew that it was necessary to acquire many pairs to make a fit. Housing meanwhile was atrocious with couples required to wait years before qualifying for a small apartment; the wait for cars also dragged on interminable, and after one finally arrived, it was not unusual for it almost immediately to experience mechanical problems.

Defense costs, furthermore, were eating up an inordinate portion of Soviet expenditures. Because of the difficulty in measuring the Soviet GNP it was not always clear what percentage was being spent to this end. Experts now claim the West routinely underestimated the numbers. It is now believed that in years just prior to 1991 as much as 30 percent of the economy went toward the defense sector putting an enormous burden on the average citizen in terms of delayed consumer satisfaction. Then there were the costs incurred by shoring up overseas adventures such as those in Africa, not to mention the drain of the war in Afghanistan and the expense involved in maintaining Castro’s lifeline.  (Thanx to Tom Lovell for the facts mentioned)

In other words the USSR killed itself….but I guess if you point to the expenditures in the arms race as a major contributor then it is possible to make the connection that Gingrich assisted because all spending bills originate in the House and he was a member to that part of the government…but to say that he helped defeat communism is just as ludicrous as me saying my writings 40 years ago gave birth of the OWS  (although I would like to believe that…I know it is not necessarily true)….

So, with all that said….I still stand by my assertion that Gingrich is an arrogant demented toad….

Coming soon to a blog near you……”The Man Who Invented Supply Side Economics”…….

Leader? Leader? Who Has The Leader?

Inkwell Institute

2010/12 Election Series

For over a year I have been bitching about the GOP and thei9r obvious lack of alternatives to a Dem plan and their lack of leadership and take every opportunity to try and find some sort of actual plan and leadership…….

Since I live less than an hour from New Orleans, I thought I would spend some time checking out the Southern Republican Leadership Conference (SRLC) being held in the Big Easy.

Day one–Damn there are a lot of suits!  I saw the typical BS from conservs  and listened to the typical anti-Obama stuff…you know all the crap you hear on the tube?  I even saw Hannerity of FOX News fame hawking his latest book…….Liz Cheney was suppose to be there but I did not see her (thanx for small favors).  Then I listened to the Newt-ster ….he talked…he rattled and it boiled down to the usual….Obama sucks and tax cuts……once again there were no alternatives on how to put the country back on the right track…..just Obama Sucks!

Day two–do these people ever change suits?  More of day one…..opposition, misinformation and what appears to be more lies……the conservs were wound up tight…..Obama sucks!  And then along came Palin…..Sarah, Sarah, Sarah…….applause, applause…..talk, talk……..Our Lady Of The North……she delivered on her usual folksy rhetoric that had no base in reality…..she mock the president to the point of embarrassment…..and as usual she joined in the chorus of…Obama Sucks!  She also joined in the opposition and offered NOTHING in the way of a solution to the problems other than Obama sucks…….

The title of the this conference was Southern Republican Leadership……a misnomer…..it should have been the dance of the clowns…..if this was to offer up a leader for the GOP then it has failed miserably….it was more like an evening at the Improv than a political conference……..if this conference was put together to find a leader for the upcoming elections, then it failed horribly….all they accomplished was to give a platform to those with NO solutions, just cute little quips that does nothing to garner small applause…..this conference has nothing to do with political leadership, rather more like sour grapes….

Sorry to say that the GOP is still a rudderless ship with no captain, a circus with NO ring master…..2 days of observation was all I could stomach…this was NOT even good political theater….GOP, R.I.P.

Pay Your Taxes, Then Protest!

Today is the day we have all dreaded all year…..Tax Day, your taxes are due or at least your extensions are due.  And then there is people like me…..Tea Party Time……(yawn!)

There are many opinions on what the day is about.  First this from Marc Cooper in the LA Times:

Go to a hobby store. Buy a scale model of a U.N. One-World-Government Black Helicopter and a tube of glue. Toss the model kit. Sniff the entire tube of glue. You’re all set for the party.

And then there is the WSJ:

It’s possible that people who demonstrate today will find that experience cathartic enough — or exhausting enough — that that will be it. But it’s more likely that the tea-party movement will have an impact on the 2010 and 2012 elections, and perhaps beyond.

Now it seems that everyone involved with this organized spontaneity is saying that it is not at all about political parties or political ideology, but rather just the average person who is sick of governmental intervention into our lives.

But yet the two most vocal cheerleaders of the “protests” are Republican heavyweights, Armey and Gingrich.  Which puts a halt to the  premise that it is not ideological.  Conservative media does not like to mention the names of the leaders of this “movement” to use the cover organizations.

An organizer for the Knoxville tea party who said that no “professional politicians” were going to be allowed to speak, and he made a big point of saying that the protest wasn’t an anti-Obama protest, it was an anti-establishment protest. I’ve heard similar things from tea-party organizers in other cities, too. Though critics will probably try to write the tea parties off as partisan publicity stunts, they’re really a post-partisan expression of outrage.

Just a few facts that I say  will not come up in the protests.  The size and scope of new tax breaks for working families implemented as part of President Obama’s economic stimulus package are historic. According to data released by the White House today, 95 percent of working families will see a reduction in their tax by $400 for individuals and $800 for households beginning this year.

A typical family with three children and an annual income of $30,000 would keep as much as $2,172 as part of the president’s tax cut plan. In addition to keeping the $800 for the working families tax cut, known as the Making Work Pay Credit, this family could benefit from new credits for child care expense and a rise in the Earned Income Tax Credit.

A married couple earning a combined $90,000 with one child in college, would save about $1,500 in 2009 through the Making Work Pay Credit and new credits for college tuition expense, according to White House budget office estimates.

Another family of four preparing to purchase their first home would earn the new $8,000 homebuyer’s credit that was included in the president’s economic stimulus package. Along with the Making Work Pay Credit, this family could save $8,800 in 2009. So far, the White House says, $3 billion have been returned to first-time homebuyers through this tax credit.

An estimated 70 percent of these new tax credits and cuts will go to 60 percent of middle-income Americans like the typical families cited here. The Obama administration’s tax policies sharply contrast with the Bush administration’s, which primarily benefited the very richest Americans.

Let us be truly honest….this is nothing but a feel good day for those people that did not get their way in the last election.  They are thoroughly pissed that the American people have rejected the conservative ideology and they are pouting.

So I stand by my assessment that the conservatives and the GOP are just a pathetic bunch of losers.

Class dismissed.
