Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has boasted of his efforts to convince the US to launch a war against Iran, crediting his frequent appearances on US television networks and his “intimate knowledge” of US leaders.
Netanyahu made the comments Sunday night on Israel’s Channel 14, and a clip of his appearance was posted on X by the account Clash Report, which Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later shared.
The Israeli leader said that he had been against Iran for “nearly 40 years” and that it took him a long time to get the Israeli security establishment and the US on board.
“It took a long time to bring the US in,” he said, according to Channel 14. “I was able to do this because I had close to a thousand hours on American television, influence in the United States, and intimate knowledge of all its leaders – both those who support us and those who do not.”
The New York Times reported in April that 17 days before the US and Israel launched the war on February 28, Netanyahu presented President Trump with an intelligence briefing at the White House and made a “hard sell” for the war. The report said that Netanyahu had been “pressing for months” for the US to agree to a major attack on the Islamic Republic.
Sources told the Times that during the briefing, Netanyahu made a series of predictions about the potential war that proved to be wrong, including the idea that Iran was ripe for regime change, that its ballistic missile program could be destroyed within weeks, that it would be too weak to close the Strait of Hormuz, and that Iran’s missile strikes on US interests in regional countries would be minimal.
Responding to Netanyahu’s comments about his influence on the US, Aragchi said that the Israeli leader was openly bragging about how he “suckered” the US into the war.
“In Hebrew, Netanyahu openly crows that he suckered the US Administration into a war on Iran on behalf of Israel. Netanyahu explicitly laughs about how he ‘influenced’ America through 1,000 hours of airtime on US networks,” the Iranian diplomat wrote on X. “In English, he praises POTUS’

We all need to remember that we have a man suffering from severe dementia, who is living in some kind of fantasy universe that bears no resemblance to reality, and who is surrounded by sycophants who gush and dribble and fall all over themselves to praise his ever word literally as if it were biblical scripture, with his finger hovering over the nuclear destruction button. If that demented old man has a bad morning, if his constipation gets too bad and rage posting at 3 AM isn’t enough to satisfy his bruised ego, he is fully capable of pushing that button.

This arrogant admission isn’t surprising to those of us who have been paying close attention to Israel’s embrace with Zionist aggression over the years. What I’m more aghast with isn’t how easily an egomaniacal dullard like Trump obeyed Netanyahu’s orders, but with why the entire U.S. political and economic establishment colluded with it so wholeheartedly.

Yes, AIPAC and big money. That’s easy to understand. Still, the totality of it all doesn’t quite add up in my mind. Intuitively, I suspect something else is going on here.
I ask myself, “why would the vast majority of politicians, businesses, and journalists in the U.S. and U.K. obediently and stubbornly serve the interests of a genocidal foreign regime?” That didn’t happen when the world turned against apartheid South Africa (which Israel was allied with) forty years ago. Yes, the influence of money is much stronger now; but, it takes a lot for human beings to completely put aside their moral objections.
I don’t understand yet, but I’m working on it. Perhaps religion is somehow involved or even ethnic hatred.

I am Canadian, Robert. Many, many of us feel terrible for so many good Americans — and we know many others who feel the same way we do. We are watching in horror as one regime — not just one egotistical maniac — has done so much damage internationally. We had neighbours last summer who came here from Florida; just lovely people who are positively aghast at the goings-on.
We miss driving across the border – we have always loved travel in Maine, New Hampshire, New York ( another route to our daughter’s place in Ontario – from Nova Scotia) but are unwilling to go that way since the last election. We miss so many of our favourite places there and really want to return. Alas, this regime has caused so much damage; damage that will take a long time to fix. We weep alongside all of you who voted the right way.
Thank you, Carmen. I have a deep fondness for Canada and its lovely people. I often reminisce about my visits to British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. I have relatives who live in Montreal and they gave me a wonderful tour when I visited them in December 1975. The city was buried in snow, but the architecture was still amazing!
Had I had more foresight back then, I would’ve tried very hard to immigrate to Canada; but, that time has passed. Americans like myself now can only do our best while hoping for the best. We no longer hold any illusions about our future.
