GOP Is Cowardly As Well

I have written many times just how cowardly I think the DNC/DCCC has become…it tries to pick the candidates for the voter with the help of the MSM…..and now the GOP has joined into the undemocratic practice.

They are choosing the candidates for the voter……trying to head off any embarrassment for “you know who”……

Four states are poised to cancel their 2020 GOP presidential primaries and caucuses, a move that would cut off oxygen to Donald Trump’s long-shot primary challengers.

Republican parties in South Carolina, Nevada, Arizona and Kansas are expected to finalize the cancellations in meetings this weekend, according to three GOP officials who are familiar with the plans.

The moves are the latest illustration of Trump’s takeover of the entire Republican Party apparatus. They underscore the extent to which his allies are determined to snuff out any potential nuisance en route to his renomination — or even to deny Republican critics a platform to embarrass him.

https://www.politico.com/story/2019/09/06/republicans-cancel-primaries-trump-challengers-1483126

This means the newest challenger to Trump will face a steeper hill to navigate……

President Trump just picked up another opponent in the Republican primaries: Mark Sanford, the former South Carolina governor and congressman, has decided to launch a longshot challenge to the current occupant of the Oval Office, reports the AP. “I am here to tell you now that I am going to get in,” Sanford said in an interview on Fox News Sunday. When asked why he was taking on an incumbent who’s popular within the party, Sanford said: “I think we need to have a conversation on what it means to be a Republican. I think that as the Republican Party, we have lost our way.”

The 59-year-old Sanford has long been an outspoken critic of Trump’s. He frequently questioned Trump’s motivations and qualifications during the run-up to the 2016 presidential election and called Trump’s candidacy “a particularly tough pill to swallow.”

That makes 3 challengers to Trump’s candidacy……

Tell me what you think….should the party decide who should represent the people and take it out of the hands of the voter?  Or should the voter be lead around by the nose?

I Hate Cowards

Especially political cowards….and that is what we have now in DC…..a pack of spineless, whimpering cowards that will allow violations of the Constitution just to appease their donors, their controllers, their puppet masters.

Sorry but that is NOT who I want to run my government.

Of course I am talking about the GOP and Repubs/conservs……the elected reps and the supporting public are silent as the President violates the Constitution almost daily……all because the agenda is far more important that the nation and its people to the GOP.

That’s the rub, though. Most of the chickenbutt Senate Republicans looking to be re-elected in 2020 from safe red states aren’t sweating a potential Democratic challenger. What keeps them up late at night with Pepto in hand is the threat of a primary challenge from the right. All of them live in terror that some fire-breathing MAGA hat with an AR-15 strapped to his back will come along howling “Trump uber alles!” and strip their party’s base support down to the bone.

https://truthout.org/articles/the-republican-party-is-a-pack-of-cowards/

The GOP is not alone in the crowded cowards field…..the DNC/Dems/liberals are just as guilty as the GOP……they talk and talk and yet let it go on as it is….

…..modern U.S. politics can be summed up in seven words: Republicans are liars and Democrats are cowards. Today I propose the 2018 Corollary: Republicans are liars and cowards; Democrats are cowards and stupid.

It takes quite a bit to outdo the Democrats in cowardice, since Bill Clinton renamed it “triangulation,” but the Republican Congress and revolving-door Trump Cabinet members have done it: They have redefined cowardice.

The word not so long ago was regarded as a shameful trait for any human being: either simple fear, or failure to stand up for one’s rights and beliefs.

(Robert Kahn)

Then there are the evangelicals.  By far the largest conservative collection of voters and by far the most cowardly of them all……morality means nothing as long as the racist BS is pursued….that makes them the biggest cowards.

But the DNC comes in a close 3rd…….

The latest shakeup over a lack of diversity in senior leadership at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee shows that House Democrats’ campaign arm remains out of touch with the values of its grassroots Democratic voters.

This first became evident in March when DCCC Chair Cheri Bustos announced a “blacklist” policy, which sought to stifle the people-powered democratic process by requiring political consultants to sign a loyalty pledge to incumbent Democrats. Recent comments from black and Latino lawmakers about a lack of diversity in senior leadership, as well as complaints about a tone-deaf approach to issues relating to race, show that the DCCC continues to refuse to evolve and change. Instead, there seems to be an implicit policy of silencing new voices and sidelining historically marginalized communities in order to protect the power of the status quo.

Beating Trump is the most important thing in 2020…if so then why is Schumer doing all he can to keep Progressives off the ballot?

Months after the DCCC formally announced it would blacklist consultants who work with primary challengers against incumbent Democrats, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee—controlled by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer—is reportedly taking the policy of its House counterpart “one step further” by undermining progressive candidates attempting to flip Republican-held seats.

The Intercept reported Thursday that Andrew Romanoff, a Medicare for All and Green New Deal supporter running for Sen. Cory Gardner’s (R-Colo.) seat, has had “multiple consultants” turn down offers to work on his campaign due to “pressure from the DSCC.”

All the keep “corporatist” elected people in place….change will not come….so stop hoping.

In closing one thought……We need a political system that works for the people, not the deep-pocketed special interests.

Those Damn Dem Centrists!

2020 election is in the wings and all efforts are being played.

Pundits are screaming for a centrist candidate for the Dems…..a centrist will be inclined to protect the corporations that own the news these days.

Personally, I do not think centrtists do anything to help the situation…they are more likely to feed the partisan BS that has crippled this country for damn near 4 decades.

Let me illustrate my opposition…..

https://lobotero.com/2011/06/27/centrist-vs-independent/

https://lobotero.com/2014/07/29/centrists-the-bane-of-politics/

Who are the centrists?

For those that are not sure who is who in the Democratic field….watch for their election strategy…..

I hate the term “centrists”…….. they are “corporatists”…… meaning they will do what it takes to keep corporations in control of government…..

In his book Failed States, preeminent linguist Noam Chomsky described the significant gap between the policy positions of the U.S. electorate and their elected “leaders” as a “democracy deficit.” That gap, he concluded, is the product of the deceptive manner in which “elections are skillfully managed to avoid issues and marginalize the underlying population…freeing the elected leadership to serve the substantial people.”

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2019/08/08/step-one-closing-democracy-deficit-stop-referring-corporatists-centrists-or

What is this strategy?

Democrats voting strategy: 1). Vote blue, no matter who   2). Refuse to discuss voting records, donor history   3). Yell at anyone discussing voting records, donor history   4). Refuse to support any progressive candidates   5). Wonder why Trump wins re-election   6). Repeat in 2024……. 2028.

It is a false allure of centrism that the MSM is pushing on the viewing public……

Nancy Pelosi is worried about 2020. As, of course, is every Democrat, but Pelosi has an analysis of the challenge the party faces that is striking in how tentative it sounds, even frightened. Here’s what she told The New York Times over the weekend:

Sitting in her office with its panoramic view of the National Mall, Ms. Pelosi—the de facto head of the Democratic Party until a presidential nominee is selected in 2020—offered Democrats her “coldblooded” plan for decisively ridding themselves of Mr. Trump: Do not get dragged into a protracted impeachment bid that will ultimately get crushed in the Republican-controlled Senate, and do not risk alienating the moderate voters who flocked to the party in 2018 by drifting too far to the left.

“Own the center left, own the mainstream,” Ms. Pelosi, 79, said.

It wasn’t that long ago that Pelosi was supposed to epitomize the left’s radicalism, a “San Francisco liberal” who filled every heartland American with rage and disgust. Now she’s telling the Democratic Party that the path to victory is by limiting conflict with Donald Trump and offering a sedate policy centrism.

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2019/05/06/fearful-democrats-and-false-allure-policy-centrism

If you want more of the same from your Dems then vote for those damn centrists…..Biden, Mayor Pete, Harris, Booker, etc etc…….and please stop attaching the “progressive” label to these corporate toadies.

Those Spineless Collaborators

The word makes me think of those people during World War 2 that worked with the Nazis against the interests of their countrymen……I know there are other definitions but that is the one that I will stick with for this post.

For this post it is those Dems that are in the pocket of corporate dollars…..it is more important to win re-election than to work for the betterment of the nation.

As the 2020 election comes into focus there are a couple of collaborators withing the Dems ranks….some are candidates and others are leader in Congress…..

First there is the candidate, Joe Biden……

It’s really quite simple: the rogue oligarchs and corporations who now run this country constitute the enemy. Since becoming a Senator in 1973, your favorite Irish uncle, Joe Biden, has actively collaborated in the extreme capitalism, racism, nationalism, and police state-ism that enable the oligarchs’ agenda; and while most ably empowered by their instrument, the Republican Party, between times, it is more than adequately carried out by the Democrats. What we see now, with a mostly pliant Trump, with a conservative majority Supreme Court, and with a divided Congress where stasis rules, is the Oligarchy’s ideal. But as the political calendar moves on – a proven collaborator must be installed, over the next twelve months, as the Democratic nominee in the 2020 tryst with their current champion – just in case.

https://www.counterpunch.org/2019/07/05/joe-biden-is-a-collaborator/

Next we go to the House and the Dem leader Schiff…..he likes to label himself a progressive and there is nothing more false than that…….

Neoliberal, fake progressive Rep. Adam Schiff (D-C) showed his true colors yet again last week. He said in responseto President Donald Trump’s saber-rattling and threats to attack Iran that,

“Iran is a thoroughly malign actor, a cause of deep instability in the region, a profound contributor to the violence and misery in Yemen, and one of the most dangerous regimes in the world. Through the IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) and its proxies, it is also a state sponsor of terror. The threat it poses is real.”

That certainly wasn’t the position of the Obama Administration. Schiff instead has decided to jump into the Trump foreign policy with both feet. He’s made similar threatening statements about Venezuela and China, too.

JOHN KIRIAKOU: Adam Schiff—The Left Wing of the Hawk

Schiff is also in the pocket of the corporations…..his policies are to help them not to move this country forward.

Can we count on Dem Senator Coons to vote for a progressive agenda?  My thought is NO!

A trade group representing chemical companies will spend more than $150,000 on advertising during July in support of four Republican senators and one Democrat, all of whom face reelection in 2020. The American Chemistry Council, which represents nearly 200 companies including DuPont, Chevron Phillips and ExxonMobil, is running TV and radio ads in Alaska, Delaware, Louisiana, Montana and South Dakota between July 8 and 21, according to Federal Communications Commission records accessed via OpenSecrets’ political ad database. Sens. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska), Chris Coons (D-Del.), Bill Cassidy (R-La.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) all face reelection next year.

Trade group airs ads to boost five senators facing reelection

I say keep an eye on the collaborators…….then ask who do they truly represent….my guess is the cash and not the people.

****More on this situation in today’s Closing Thought****

Closing Thought–03Jul19

As we prepare to celebrate Independence Day and the subject of patriotism and love of country will also be celebrated.

The highest form of patriotism is to put country above personal ambition……and we know that the 45th president does that at every turn (that was sarcasm)…..but there is a new low to his rhetoric and his ego-centric dealings.

His daughter with Marples, Tiffany, is the center of a news report……it seems Trump would cut her off if she decided to join the military and serve her country……

Donald Trump’s prenuptial agreement with his second wife, Marla Maples, contains shocking revelations about his finances and values, Vanity Fair reported Tuesday.

“A source recently passed me a revealing document from this era: Trump’s prenuptial agreement with Maples. Its draconian terms suggest a penuriousness at odds with his public image as a free-spending billionaire in his gilded triplex penthouse. And its confidential financial statements included in the agreement is a sketch of Trump’s immense privilege and the wealth he squandered, telling in both what it illuminates and what it obfuscates,” reporter Gabriel Sherman wrote.

“More than anything, the prenup shows how fiercely Trump wanted to protect the money he did have. Maples reportedly wanted $25 million, but Trump agreed to pay her only $1 million if they separated within five years, plus another $1 million to buy a house,” Vanity Fair reported.

“Trump also would stop making $100,000 child support payments for Tiffany when she turned 21. The agreement states that Trump’s payments would cease earlier if Tiffany got a full-time job, enlisted in the military, or joined the Peace Corps,” the magazine added.

https://www.rawstory.com/2019/06/trump-made-2nd-wife-marla-maples-sign-prenup-that-cut-off-daughter-tiffany-if-she-joined-the-military-report/

Now that is a true LOVE OF COUNTRY (again sarcasm)……..and a higher form of patriotism.

To be honest this is not unique to Trump….it is a common practice for the wealthy that want it all and not to have to pay for their freedom.

USS John McCain

One of the big stories this past week is the one about the Beloved Supreme Leader’s recent visit to Japan and a US Naval ship, the USS McCain…..

It would appear that Trump still has a hard on for Sen. McCain….if this report is true……

President Trump has made no secret of the fact that he isn’t, and never was, an admirer of the late John McCain. But that story took a strange turn this week with a report that the White House ordered the Navy essentially to conceal a destroyer named for McCain’s father and grandfather, both Navy admirals, while Trump visited Japan. By all accounts, Trump himself did not make any such order, but he said Thursday that he understands the rationale. Details and developments:

  • The president: “I don’t know what happened. I was not involved. I would not have done that,” Trump told reporters Thursday, reports Politico. “I was not a big fan of John McCain in any shape or form,” Trump added, before ticking off some of their differences. “Now, somebody did it because they thought I didn’t like him, OK? And they were well-meaning.” But “I would never have done that.”
  • Meghan McCain: She initially criticized Trump on Twitter Thursday morning over the report and later amplified on The View. “The president’s actions have consequences,” she said, per CNN. “And when you repeatedly are attacking my father and war heroes, it creates a culture in the military where people are clearly fearful to show my father’s name in one way or another. And that, I think, is what has started this chain of events and actions.”
  • The allegations: The first report of the White House order came from the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post and the New York Times later confirmed the broad strokes, though with different details. The USS John McCain is docked at Yokosuku Naval Base, and the White House reportedly asked that it be “out of sight” when Trump visited. The ship, however, can’t be moved because of ongoing repairs.
  • A tarp, a barge: The most tangible move to obscure the ship came when a tarp was used to cover its name, per the Journal and Post. Photos of that emerged on Friday, but Navy officials caught wind of what was happening and ordered the tarp removed on Saturday, before Trump’s visit. The Journal also says a barge was positioned in front of the McCain ship, though it was moved before the president arrived.
  • The sailors: The Times reports that sailors from the ship were singled out and not invited to hear the president speak, and that those who showed up wearing the ship’s insignia were turned away. However, the Post downplays this, reporting that the ship’s crew was not invited because they had the day off for the Memorial Day weekend, along with sailors from another ship.
  • Different controversy: Some of the sailors who did hear Trump speak wore patches with an image of the president reading “Make Aircrew Great Again,” as seen in this tweet from the Times. The Navy is looking into whether any uniform regulations were violated, reports Stars and Stripes.
  • Investigation: The Navy also is investigating whether anyone acted inappropriately in regard to the McCain ship, reports UPI. Acting Navy chief Patrick Shanahan says his chief of staff is looking into the reports.  (How far will that go?)
  • A critic: In the Atlantic, Eliot Cohen writes that any Navy officials who agreed to the requests to cover up the ship “disgraced themselves and disgraced the oaths they took when they joined the service or became public officials.” It’s not only a matter of principle, he writes. “A service that tolerates sycophancy will get America’s sons and daughters killed.”

This is news and it should not be so….this is a juvenile act regardless who ordered it…….or was this to take away from any bad news on the horizon for the day?

Sorry whoever ordered this slight to Sen. McCain is a childish attempt and is not as clever as they think it is…..

McCain and I agreed on little but he deserves more respect than this.

Where Bills Go To Die

I have said many times that the US Senate is a waste of time….it is an old fart’s club that has outlived its usefulness…..

I was chastised a couple of times for calling for the Senate to be abolished and to stick with just the House for our bills and laws……one guy many years ago almost hit me with his cane…..

But I stand by my assertion that the Senate is where bills go to die….it does nothing to move this country forward.

To illustrate this is a report that came out the other day…….

Since January, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has prevented over 100 bills that have passed in the House from even coming up for a vote. His actions obstruct and ignore legislation that millions of Americans backed by electing a Democratic House majority in 2018.

“We have multiple, House-passed bills awaiting action. Leader McConnell need only call them up for debate. But instead, the legislative graveyard, where good legislation doesn’t even get debated or amended — let alone passed — is upon us,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a floor speech on Monday.

Senate Democrats noted last month that more than 100 bills passed by the House “are awaiting legislative action in the Senate.”

A full 53% of votes cast in 2018 supported a Democratic agenda, versus 45.2% for Republicans. Democrats had a popular vote majority of more than 8.6 million votes, the most in 44 years (since right after Nixon resigned).

“The progressive agenda — ending pharma greed and making medicines affordable, ensuring students can graduate without debt, raising the minimum wage and putting more money in the pockets of working families — delivered a Democratic majority to Congress,” said Reps. Mark Pocan (D-WI) and Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), co-chairs of the Congressional Progressive Caucus in a statement to Shareblue Media.

The McConnell-engineered logjam includes popular legislation like H.R. 1, the “For the People Act,” which included a number of anti-corruption measures, as well as enhanced rules and guidelines to increase voter participation.

The House also passed the “Paycheck Fairness Act,” which makes it easier for women to challenge pay discrimination, as well as the “Background Checks Act,” which protects children and families by expanding background checks for gun purchases.

Those bills all had support from Democrats and Republicans, yet McConnell has chosen to hold politically motivated show votes rather than take up bills with changes Americans want.

(shareblue.com)

This just illustrates how disconnected the GOP is from the rank and file human in this country.

As I keep saying…..”The Senate is where good bills go to die”….we do NOT need these old farts anymore…..time for them to take their place at the Smithsonian…..as a display of the political relics they truly are.

Maybe it is time to reconsider this bicameralism thing…….https://lobotero.com/2019/04/24/against-bicameralism/
