Schumer Must Go

It is no secret that I have detested the Dem leadership in Congress for a very long time….I have been calling for them to be replaced with someone with some balls.

Now there are many others that are calling for the same action.

A coalition of peace groups on Wednesday launched a new national campaign calling for the top Democrats in Congress—Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries—to resign from their leadership roles, citing their failure to sufficiently fight back “against a war-crazed Trump administration.”

The coalition, which includes Peace Action and RootsAction, launched a petition declaring that it is “time for congressional Democrats to replace Schumer and Jeffries with leaders who are willing and able to challenge the runaway militarism that has dragged our country into launching yet another insanely destructive war,” this time against Iran.

“Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries have not acted to prevent war on Venezuela or the current war on Iran,” the petition reads. “They worked to delay a vote on Iran until after the war had started, while failing to clearly oppose it before or after the launch of the war. Schumer and Jeffries have shown that they cannot be trusted to prevent more wars, more threats of wars, or the transfer of another half a trillion dollars a year into the war machine.”

Kevin Martin, president of Peace Action—the largest grassroots peace network in the US—said in a statement that he doubts “at this point whether many people look to Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries for ‘leadership’ in Congress, but we would settle for them getting with the program and representing their base, and the majority of Americans, who want them to stand strongly against Trump’s illegal wars and domestic terror campaigns against the American people.”

Then just yesterday more news about Schumer….

Chuck Schumer may not be on the ballot this fall, but the Wall Street Journal reports that his political future is very much in play. Behind closed doors, a growing bloc of Senate Democrats and progressive activists is venting about the 75-year-old minority leader and quietly gaming out what it would take to push him aside after November, according to more than four dozen lawmakers, aides, strategists, and donors interviewed. Among those privately dissatisfied: Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Tina Smith, and Chris Murphy, part of an informal progressive “Fight Club” that chats on Signal and believes Schumer is tilting too hard toward centrist candidates in key Senate races.

The frustration stems from several fronts: Schumer’s handling of last year’s lengthy government shutdown, his tightly held decision-making style that some colleagues say leaves them in the dark, and positions—like robust support for Israel—that critics view as out of step with Democratic voters. Some donors are pushing what they jokingly call the “chuck Chuck movement,” and say his image is dragging on fundraising. Yet Schumer still has influential defenders, including Sen. Brian Schatz, widely seen as his preferred eventual successor, and several other Democrats who credit him with recruiting a strong 2026 slate. Progressives, meanwhile, are floating alternatives such as Sen. Chris Van Hollen or Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, even as both signal they’re not actively seeking the job.

Schumer, for his part, says grumbling “goes with the territory,” calls his backing “deep and strong,” and maintains he’s focused solely on winning back the Senate, not on whether he’ll seek to remain leader afterward. The Hill notes that Murphy was asked on Meet the Press over the weekend about emerging reports of dissatisfaction, and he didn’t answer directly when asked if he wanted to replace Schumer. Instead, he acknowledged that Schumer has a “tough job” but declined to answer directly again when pressed by host Kristen Welker.

I like this news a lot….the progressives floated to replace Schumer are not the ones I would choose but for now if we can get rid of the spineless fool so much the better.

Anyone care to weigh in?

This Is Why Moderates Suck!

The news has broken that there may be a deal on the longest governmental shutdown in our history…..and the reason for this ‘miracles if miracles’ are those moderates that always throw a monkey wrench into to any plans the Dems may have.

Here is what is known as of this typing….

The longest government shutdown in history is now on track to end soon after a key procedural vote in the Senate on Sunday. Eight Democrats—technically seven Democrats and an independent who caucuses with the party—broke ranks and joined Republicans in the vote. Some key details:

The eight: They are Democrats Dick Durbin of Illinois, Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire, Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire, Tim Kaine of Virginia, John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada, and Jacky Rosen of Nevada. Joining them was independent Angus King of Maine, per the AP.

No concession: Democrats did not win the key concession behind their holdout—a guarantee to extend health care subsidies, notes the Hill. But the eight moderates bucked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, arguing the shutdown is causing too much pain.

  • In common: Politico sees “few obvious threads connecting the group who broke the partisan impasse,” and its piece has details on their particular reasons. But a New York Timesanalysis sees one big thing in common: None are up for reelection in 2026 and could afford the “political hit.” Two, Shaheen and Durbin, are retiring.
  • Anger: Many Democrats, especially progressives, are seething over the moderates’ decision. Republicans have promised to hold a vote on the subsidies after the government reopens, but critics are skeptical it will result in an extension. It was “a very, very bad vote,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders in a video, per Fox News. “I think it’s a terrible mistake,” said Sen. Elizabeth Warren. “The American people want us to stand and fight for health care, and that’s what I believe we should do.”
  • Justification: “I understand that not all of my Democratic colleagues are satisfied with this agreement,” said Shaheen, one of the eight. “But waiting another week or another month wouldn’t deliver a better outcome. It would only mean more harm for families in New Hampshire and all across the country.”

These eight have nothing to lose for they are not up for re-election so they would not have to answer for any transgressions they have.

This is why I hate moderates…..they are cowards and are only in it for their personal gain.

I lean Left and have never liked the crap about bi-partisanship….it is moderates that are keep this country down even when they are in the drivers seat.

And my leaning is getting further to the Left with each passing election.

What To Expect From Centrists

I have made my thoughts known about what I think of so-called “centrists”……not a big fan of the term…but for those that missed my past posts…..

As an example I will use the civil rights fight John Clyburn (this will get me into trouble for attacking an icon like him)….this is about bowing to cash in opposition to progress……
James Clyburn is a Dixiecrat on almost every issue except segregation, and even then he repeatedly chided the Civil Rights Movement for “going too far.” His pivotal endorsement of Obama said more about Obama’s real political character than Clyburn’s. But say this for the Dixiecrats of old, they based their politics largely on conviction, debased convictions to be sure. Clyburn follows the money (He’s pocketed more than $1 million from the health “care” lobby alone). He is one of the premier transactional politicians of our time, a contract killer hired to protect the agenda of corporate America.

(Jeffery St. Clair)
He is an example and by NO MEANS a solitary figure….this is how progress comes to a halt….bowing to cash and lobbyist.

Cash buys even civil rights icons….so how can we get anything done in the nation?

When will this era of buying government come to an end?

To answer my own question….since I am an old fart….not in my lifetime….greed is more powerful than  allegiance to country and its people.

This has to end.

We need dedicated representatives….not toadies standing in the payday line at lobbying firms.

But that is a pipe dream as long as dark money is throwing in the direction of our politicians….federal funding is the answer.
Corporation can give all they desire but t would go into a fund and not in the pockets of individuals….

Money has given rise to the idiocy of today…..and only the loss of that cash will stop the spread of the political cancer we are suffering with now.

A complaint filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission accuses 18 super PACs—which dumped over $200 million into races from 2017 to 2020—of deliberately misleading voters by concealing their connections to the major party political action committees that financed them.

“Voters have a right to know when big money is flowing into their elections from D.C.-based groups hiding their agendas and funding behind fake names,” said Adav Noti, senior director of trial litigation and chief of staff at Campaign Legal Center (CLC) Action, and former associate general counsel of the FEC, in a statement.

“The vast scope of this illegal concealment should prompt swift investigation and a firm crackdown by the FEC,” he added.

Even Progressives are not at all pleased with the antics of these Centrists….

House Democrats from both sides of the political spectrum are finding it hard to contain their annoyance at their 10 colleagues threatening to topple President Joe Biden’s entire agenda — for no real reason.

The centrist group claims that Americans can’t wait a moment longer for the hard infrastructure upgrades, and that the bipartisan bill shouldn’t be used as a “political football.”

I have been told by friends that I may be a bit too hard on the Centrists (Moderates)….but his says I am not…..
With Democrats clinging to just an eight-seat majority in the House of Representatives, even a small number of defectors can hold up the party’s legislative agenda. That reality was on vivid display last week, when nine moderate Democrats threatened to vote no on moving forward with Democrats’ $3.5 trillion budget resolution unless the House first voted to pass the Senate’s bipartisan $1 trillion infrastructure package.

We need a government of the best people….not the best people money can buy….and Centrists are owned by the dollars from Lobbyists and corporations.

In this political climate in the US Centrists are holding Progress up because they are paid to do just that.

As my earlier posts prove just how pathetic these people are…..and how the nation needs reps with balls and not those that worship money.

Why are Dems so ineffectual?

Easy answer….

It is just that easy to explain.

Closing Thought–30Jul21

Polls are notoriously wrong….take the elections of 2016 and 2020….wrong.

This poll taken shows that those cowards that cower to Trump and basically supported the insurrection of 06 January may have a tough time in the mid-terms….

Even moments after a mob of extremist supporters of former President Donald Trump stormed the United States Capitol in an effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election, a number of Republican lawmakers—during the joint Congressional session acknowledging then-President-elect Joe Biden’s victory—proceeded with objections to electoral votes in swing states Trump lost.

Some Republican lawmakers—like now-former Senator from Georgia, Kelly Loeffler—revoked their intended objections after the rioters shattered windows, ransacked offices, beat police officers, and breached the Senate floor, calling for the execution of any lawmaker they saw as disloyal to Trump.

Others—like Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri—continued with their objections, and have since continued to downplay the severity of the riots and absolve themselves of their culpability.

This is where the Republican party began to splinter in its mostly unconditional allegiance to Trump. Who stood up to the mob? Who proceeded to amplify the same lies that had endangered the lives of their colleagues only an hour before?

Which principles would Republican voters side with in the next election?

That last question remains unanswered, and people are divided in their predictions.

We Americans can only hope that for once a poll may be accurate…..but then it is a poll and they have been useless in the past as a predictor.

The Senate Of One

The US Senate (equivalent to the House of Lords) is now owned by one person, Joe Manchin, the backbench senator from West Virginia.

Today the Senate is a 50/50 tie and a Dem president of the Senate is the tie breaker….and now a Dem has stepped up to be the king maker.

Manchin is a conserv and as such does not want many of the issues before the Senate to move forward….voting rights, infrastructure to mention a few.

He is holding progress up for his own personal glory…not about the moving the country forward.

All eyes are on Manchin and not the issues….the media has created this political slug and he is basking in the spotlight.

Manchin didn’t rise into a pivotal position on the Hill. He fell into it. I’ve watched him for 20 years or so and have yet to detect any particular skill set. He’s not a gifted orator. He’s not a tactician or strategist. He doesn’t come up with new ideas or even repackaged old ones. Unlike his predecessors Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller, Manchin hasn’t been able to redirect stream of federal money and infrastructure projects into his destitute state. Mainly, he’s perfected the role (let’s refrain from calling it an “art”) of being a loud-mouthed impediment to progressive policies and exploiting that position for his personal advantage, which means more and more airtime. Lately, he’s been booked on more FoxNews shows than Glenn Greenwald.

Manchin is, it must be said, one of the vainest members in an institution renowned for its vanity. He delivers populist rhetoric with freshly manicured nails. Like most politicians, Manchin has contempt for the people who elected him and whose interests he must pretend to represent. But he doesn’t try to conceal his disdain. He can openly act as an agent of austerity in front of the very people in most desperate need of federal assistance, without a quiver in his voice. Most politicians blame people for their own suffering. But only a few, like Manchin, see their role in the prolongation of human suffering as a badge of honor.

(Jeffery St. Clair)

Manchin only has ears for donors and the people of this country be damned.  Manchin is so self-absorbed that he may not even realize how useful a stooge he is or who he is being used by and to what end. Manchin doesn’t mind being used, as long as he still gets the credit.

Why would I say this?

Easy!  Look at the Dem programs that he is against.

“It then lists all of the items Manchin has promised to oppose, including the idea of eliminating the filibuster, the For the People Act, and packing the Supreme Court,” CNBC noted. “It then shows everything the group believes Manchin should oppose, including Biden’s infrastructure plan and the union-friendly PRO Act.

A dark money group funded by right-wing billionaire Charles Koch has been actively lobbying Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin to keep up his opposition to the For the People Act, a sweeping voting rights bill that would expand ballot access and crack down on the kind of secretive spending that has made the deep-pocketed Koch network such a powerful force in U.S. politics.

CNBC reported Tuesday that Americans for Prosperity recently “launched a website titled West Virginia Values, which calls on people to email Manchin ‘to be The Voice West Virginia Needs In D.C. — Reject Washington’s Partisan Agenda.'”

He would oppose most major Dem proposals and wishes…..

See what dark money can buy….a sitting senator from the liberal side of the Senate.

What is it they say about money?

This is why I call him a coward and a political slug.

The Manchin Two Step

The political coward, Joe Manchin, that slug that has held up a great voting rights bill because he wants to play games and be the darling of the media.

Now he has an offering to make this all bi-partisan (a worthless hope and a stalling tactic)…….

Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia earned the wrath of fellow Democrats earlier this month when he announced that he wouldn’t back a major election-reform law. Now, ahead of next week’s vote, Manchin has put a compromise in play. Coverage:

  • Manchin released a lengthy list of reforms he does support in the For the People Act, as well as in the separate bill known as the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Read his list in full via Politico. It includes things that will please and anger both Democrats and Republicans.
  • For example, Manchin wants to ban partisan gerrymandering, which Vox explains is “a high priority for both small-d democrats and large-D Democrats, who want to prevent the GOP from seizing control of the House of Representatives with rigged congressional maps.” Also good news for Democrats: He backs automatic voter registration, a mandated 15 days of early voting, and the designation of Election Day as a holiday, per the AP.
  • On the other hand, Manchin supports new voter ID requirements backed by Republicans, and he would give state officials more leeway in their ability to remove names from voter rolls, per Politico.
  • A big sign that Manchin’s proposal is seen as acceptable to the progressive wing of the Democratic party: Stacey Abrams said Thursday that she likes it, reports NBC News. “What Sen. Manchin is putting forward are some basic building blocks that we need to ensure that democracy is accessible no matter your geography,” said the prominent voting-rights advocate. “And those provisions that he is setting forth are strong ones that will create a level playing field, will create standards that do not vary from state to state, and I think will ensure that every American has improved access to the right to vote despite the onslaught of state legislation seeking to restrict the access to vote.”
  • Senate Democrats were expected to huddle Thursday to discuss strategy ahead of the vote, reports the Hill. Manchin made clear he would support the legislation if revised, which would mean unanimous Democratic support. But the bill will likely still be doomed because Republicans could kill it with the filibuster rule—and Manchin remains opposed to scrapping the filibuster.

All the protest to his change of heart.

This is a lameass compromise….he knows that it will go no where in the Senate….so this is just his attempt to stay in the spotlight…..Manchin tryig to calm opposition to his thinking and stay in the bright light of media reporting.

But for those that actual give a sh*t here is the Manchin compromise on voting rights

https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/20892337-manchin-compromise

Sorry to say but this will go unread…..sadly there are not that many that care enough to check the ‘compromise’ out…..and there is the problem….massive APATHY!

Insurrection Update

As promised I refuse to let the in-bred morons that stormed our Capitol go under reported…..this is the latest I have seen on the plight and the excuses of those cowards that assaulted our republic.

Image

I began this IST series with this long read…..https://lobotero.com/2021/06/04/insurrection-update-2/

First I would like to give my props to those that are hunting down these traitorous pigs….

The revolution was televised. Or at least live-streamed. And now a network of online amateur sleuths is dedicated to identifying those who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6. In a profile at Bloomberg Businessweek, David Yaffe-Bellany talks to several of these “sedition hunters” about their mission to pore over endless hours of video and still images and set up databases for cross-referencing, all as volunteers. “Every person brings a piece of the puzzle together,” says one of them, Chris Sigurdson of Canada. “People are only able to really hone in on somebody based on the work that everyone else is doing.” The 58-year-old, with time on his hands amid the pandemic as an out-of-work actor, set out in January to identify a rioter who doused officers with chemical spray. The FBI cited Sigurdson’s tweet about his work when it arrested a Texas man weeks later.

Another such sleuth is a stay-at-home mom in the Pacific Northwest who has annotated roughly 100 hours of video. She tells Yaffe-Bellany she now watches the video on mute to avoid burnout from the rhetoric. Another puts on classical music for the same reason. The crowdsourcing appears to be making a difference: The FBI saw a 750% increase in calls and tips to its main hotline immediately after the riot, and it is still receiving about the twice the normal amount. A spokeswoman says such tips have helped in “dozens” of cases, and the FBI continues to ask for help in identifying people in photos. The story also addresses a potential dark side—the dangers of vigilante justice or of people being mistakenly identified. “When you do it publicly, there’s just a lot more that can go wrong,” says an exec with the Anti-Defamation League. Read the full story.

Now let’s look at those in-bred morons that thought this action was a good idea.

One insurrectionist is trying to whine his way into the history books….claims he was the victim om 06 January…..

While 140 police officers may have been injured and maimed, five people died and millions of dollars in damage to a historic building was done, one lawyer for an insurrectionist is claiming that his client was the real victim.

Many of those who attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 are employing the excuse that they were dragged into it after they were duped by a cult of right-wing media. Anthony Antonio’s lawyer claimed last month that he suffered from a rare disease that only afflicts those who watch Fox News: “Foxitis” or “Foxmania.”

In that case, Antonio’s lawyer claimed that his client was radicalized to attack the U.S. Capitol after watching Fox News for six months. He then started “believing what was being fed to him” by the conservative network and President Donald Trump.

https://www.rawstory.com/capitol-attacker-blames-q-cult/

He participated in the insurrection and he is the victim…..as my friend Pete would say ‘bollocks’.

A man from one of Chicago’s richest suburbs was arrested and charged Tuesday with unlawfully entering the U.S. Capitol and engaging in disorderly conduct on Jan. 6.

Christian Kulas, 24, of Kenilworth, wore a Burberry coat and a Keep America Great cap as he documented his movements around the Capitol grounds and inside the building in a series of Instagram stories, federal authorities alleged in court documents. He faces two misdemeanor charges, which carry significantly lesser sentences or penalties than criminal counts.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/capitol-riot-burberry-coat_n_60c0358be4b0b03d151c9023

Throw the book at this twat.

Now for the good news….

The Oregon legislature that let insurrectionists into the Oregon Capitol has been expelled….

Republican lawmakers voted with majority Democrats in the Oregon House of Representatives to take the historic step of expelling a Republican member who let violent, far-right protesters into the state Capitol on Dec. 21, the AP reports. Legislators said on the House floor that this could be the most important vote they ever cast. They then proceeded Thursday night to expel an unapologetic Rep. Mike Nearman with a 59-1 vote, marking the first time a member has been expelled by the House in its 160-year history. The only vote against the resolution for expulsion was Nearman’s own. Rep. Paul Holvey, a Democrat who chaired a committee that earlier Thursday unanimously recommended Nearman’s expulsion, reminded lawmakers of the events of Dec. 21, which were an eerie foreshadowing of the much more serious Jan. 6 assault on the US Capitol.

Nearman said he let the protesters in because he believes the Capitol, which has been closed to the public to protect against spread of the coronavirus, should have been open. The assault happened during a peak of the pandemic. But even Republicans said the crowd outside the Capitol that day was not made up of constituents who wanted to peacefully engage in the democratic process. Some were carrying guns. Some shouted false QAnon conspiracy theories about Democrats kidnapping babies. They carried American flags, banners for former President Trump, and a sign calling for the arrest of Democratic Gov. Kate Brown. They broke windows, assaulted journalists, shoved police, and sprayed officers with bear spray. Nearman also faces two misdemeanor criminal charges and has said he will seek a trial by jury.

Misdemeanor charges?

I think that his actions are a bit more serious than a whack on the pee-pee.

Charges have been filed against the leaders….

Dozens of members of two prominent far-right organizations—the Proud Boys and the Oath Keepers—have already been slammed with conspiracy charges surrounding the Capitol riot on Jan. 6. Add a third group onto that pile. Prosecutors filed a federal indictment on Thursday accusing six California men—including four said to have ties to the Three Percenters, an anti-government militia group—of conspiring to impede police or otherwise disrupt Congress’ confirmation of the 2020 election results, the Washington Post reports. Charged with conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and other unlawful entry charges are Alan Hostetter, 56; Russell Taylor, 40; Erik Warner, 45; Felipe Antonio “Tony” Martinez, 47; Derek Kinnison, 39; and Ronald Mele, 51. Warner is the only one alleged to have entered the building.

The indictment says the group mapped out their DC trip, with the intent to “fight” and satisfy then-President Trump’s call to push back against the election results in Joe Biden’s favor, per ABC News. Some of the defendants sported tactical gear, the indictment adds, while at least one carried a knife while grappling with police in front of the Capitol. The top two defendants—Hostetter, an ex-cop turned yoga instructor, and Taylor, a well-off graphic designer—ran a group called the American Phoenix Project, “founded to fight the ‘fear-based tyranny’ of coronavirus-related restrictions,” the New York Times reports. The outlet adds that it’s not only the first time that any Three Percenters have been hit with conspiracy charges, but also the first time that charges have been brought against anyone involved with the planning of the event.

Finally there is the section I will entitle “Trump Family Values”……

Lara Trump could be in legal jeopardy after suggesting vigilante violence while being interviewed by Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro

Trump said residents of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California may need engage in extra-legal violence against people perceived to be immigrants from south of the border.

“And I don’t know what you tell the people that live at the southern border,” she said. “I guess they better arm up and get guns and be ready — and maybe they’re going to have to start taking matters into their own hands.”

https://www.rawstory.com/lara-trump-2653362450/

What is the old saying?   Words have consequences?

These in-bred morons need that proverbial book thrown at them and they should suffer the maximum penalties for their actions om 06 January if they are found guilty.

Are Voting Rights A Dead Issue?

With all the voter suppression tactics making the rounds in most states….there was hope to put the brakes on this suppression but one coward in the Senate will do mall he can to help the GOP take away your right to vote…..that coward is Manchin.

A key Democratic senator says he will not vote for the largest overhaul of US election law in a generation, leaving no path forward for legislation that his party and the White House have portrayed as crucial for protecting access to the ballot. “Voting and election reform that is done in a partisan manner will all but ensure partisan divisions continue to deepen,” Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia wrote in the Charleston Gazette-Mail. He wrote that failure to bring together both parties on voting legislation would “risk further dividing and destroying the republic we swore to protect and defend as elected officials.” Among dozens of other provisions, it would require states to offer 15 days of early voting and allow no-excuse absentee balloting, the AP reports

Democrats have pushed the legislation as the antidote to a wave of restrictive state voting laws, many inspired by former President Trump’s claims of fraud in his 2020 loss. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has pledged to bring the election bill to a vote the week of June 21. But without Manchin’s support, the bill has no chance of advancing because Republicans are united against it. In appearances on Sunday news shows, Manchin stressed his reasons for opposing the bill, including his view that it is too broad. “I think it’s the wrong piece of legislation to bring our country together and unite our country and I’m not supporting that because I think it would divide us further,” Manchin said. He added that lawmakers should instead focus on revitalizing the landmark Voting Rights Act, which was weakened by a Supreme Court decision in 2013.

How does voter protection “further divide the country”?

This back bencher has his moment to shine and he is playing it for all it is worth……a minor Senator has the power to hold up the protection of your right to vote…..

How much does it pay to betray the people of the United States?

He is a political slug that deserves ridicule.

Centrists are the bane of progress…..they the bane of progress….Dems cling to a long dead issue of bi-partisanship…..instead of moving the country forward they remain in the past and deluding themselves continuously.

Kinda pathetic!

If Manchin has his way then kiss your vote good-bye.

Enemies Of State

The Senate wanted a 50/50 split of members on the 01/6 Commission….the Dems caved…..the Senate wanted 7 members of the GOP….the Dems caved…..and then after all that….the Senate voted against the establishment of the commission as a ‘personal favor’ for McConnell……bi-partisanship my ass!

The bill to create a bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol attracted the support of six Republican senators Friday, but it wasn’t enough. The vote was 54-35, Politico reports. No Democrat was opposed, so the procedural vote would have needed 10 GOP votes to reach the 60 required to keep the measure alive. Two Democrats and nine Republicans didn’t vote at all, per CNN. The legislation had already passed the House. Republican Sen. Susan Collins was trying to put together a compromise but failed. Lobbying by the family of fallen Capitol Police officer Brian Sicknick on Thursday also could not move Republican opponents, who used a filibuster to stop legislation for the first time in 2021. Some GOP senators said they feared the commission’s findings could be used against them in the midterm elections next year.

Minority Leader Mitch McConnell lobbied his members harder to stop the commission as the vote neared. “They’d like to continue to litigate the former president, into the future,” he said of Democrats, per the AP. Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin said Friday that the Republican leader is hurting “any chance we have to be bipartisan.” The country needs the commission, Manchin said, per NBC. “It’s just pure raw politics,” he said. “And that’s just so, so disheartening.” Sen. Lisa Murkowski criticized fellow Republicans. “We just can’t pretend that nothing bad happened, or that people just got too excitable. Something bad happened,” she said. “And it’s important to lay that out.” Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a floor speech that “Donald Trump’s big lie has now enveloped the Republican Party.”

My two US Senators voted nay….(go figure….two Trump acolytes)…..

Senate Republicans, including Mississippi’s delegation, on Friday blocked the creation of an independent commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Six Republicans voted to advance debate on the commission, but the final 54 to 35 vote fell six votes shy of the 60 votes needed to prevent a procedural filibuster.

https://mississippitoday.org/2021/05/28/mississippi-senators-block-january-6-commission/

Mississippi Reps have proven to me that they are the cowards I have always thought them to be.

Dems need to flush the idea of bi-partisanship down the political toilet where it belongs.

There is always a ‘Presidential Commission’ to get to the bottom of the 01 January insurrection, right?

Nope not according to Pelosi….

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is ruling out a presidential commission to study the Jan. 6 insurrection at the Capitol, telling House Democrats on Tuesday that having President Biden appoint a panel is unworkable even after the Senate blocked an independent probe last week. Pelosi laid out possible next steps after Friday’s Senate vote, in which Senate Republicans blocked legislation to create an independent, bipartisan panel to investigate the siege by former President Trump’s supporters, the AP reports. She proposed four options for an investigation of the attack, according to a person on the private Democratic caucus call who spoke on condition of anonymity.

  • The first option, Pelosi said, is to give the Senate another chance to vote on the commission. Six Republicans voted with Democrats to move forward with the bill, and a seventh missed the vote but said he would have backed it. That means Democrats would only need support from three additional Republicans to reach the 60 votes needed for passage. The commission would be modeled after a highly respected panel that investigated the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
  • The other options involve the House investigating the attack, meaning the probes would be inherently partisan. Pelosi suggested that she could appoint a new select committee to investigate the siege or give the responsibility to a single committee, like the House Homeland Security panel, which wrote the original bipartisan bill to create the commission. Alternately, Pelosi said committees could simply push ahead with the investigations that are already underway.
  • But the speaker said she believed a commission appointed by Biden—an idea pitched by some in her caucus after Friday’s Senate vote—was “not a workable idea in this circumstance.” It is unclear why she holds that view.

Pelosi’s comments come as members of both parties have pushed for a deep dive into the insurrection, which was designed to interrupt the presidential electoral count and was the worst attack on Congress in two centuries. The White House has not yet said whether Biden would appoint a commission without Congress.

Appears that Congress is the country’s worst enemy…..the “true” enemy of state.

“Letting The ‘Terrorists’ Win”

That was a statement made by a Dem when asked about the pro-democracy move in the party.

A Dem said that?

Yes he did and he is Manchin from West Virginia.

Sen. Joe Manchin won praise from the Daily Caller and Fox News contributors while infuriating voting rights advocates on Tuesday with his suggestion that scrapping the filibuster and passing sweeping, popular pro-democracy reforms would spark a second insurrection just months after a right-wing mob stormed the U.S. Capitol.

The West Virginia Democrat’s comments came in a wide-ranging interview with Vox. With an evenly split upper chamber in which Vice President Kamala Harris breaks tie votes, the party’s most conservative senator plays a key role in advancing or thwarting the legislative efforts of President Joe Biden and Democratic congressional leaders. In contrast to his discussions with Republicans about Biden’s infrastructure proposal, Manchin publicly insists he is “not a roadblock” to the president’s agenda.

The For the People Act, which passed the Democrat-controlled House in March and is backed by Biden, aims to modernize voting registration, restore the Voting Rights Act, end gerrymandering, increase election security and campaign transparency, empower small donors, and implement various ethics reforms. A wave of voter suppression bills introduced this year by GOP state lawmakers has bolstered demands for enacting it.

Why would anyone especially a democrat be opposed to any pro-democracy legislation?

“Letting the ‘terrorists’ win?

So to him expanding voting and promoting voters rights is a creation of ‘terrorists’.

Only terrorists are d/bags like Manchin that would kill positive legislation for his own ego and pocketbook….his pursuit to be more than he will ever be.

It is a worthless spineless corporate tool….that is more about his coffers than the people of this country….typical to ALL politicians….cowardice runs rampant in the parties.
