New Years Eve–A Look Back, Then Ahead

Yes my friends it has been yet another year and a good year it was for blogging at least for me….the year itself kinda sucked.

I have added a few new regulars and lost a couple but that is how blogging works……bloggers come and go a I am just thankful that most of my die hard regulars continue to visit and comment and I cannot thank them enough for their loyalty.

The last week of 2025 was great for views even if most were bots being irritating.

2025 I have written 720 posts and had 1825 views which is an uptick from the year before (not breaking any records but still feels good)…..although the uptick is probably ‘bots come to visit.

2025 was a terrible year…..politics sucked, international stage was alight, but most of all for me personally…..my best friend and my heart passed away….Sue was the best thing that every happened to me…..and then I was diagnosed with a double cancer…..after 6 months of steady treatment those tumors were shrinking…..and then in December a new shadow has shown up in my lung….now I must wait until next year to find out what is what.

So I am not a fan of 2025 for the obvious reasons.

There has been lots of predictions for the coming year….Nostro has had something to say, Cayce as well and then there are a few others but the one that caught my attention was the predictions from some shamans in Peru….

A group of shamans gathered Monday by the sea in the Miraflores district of Peru’s capital, Lima, to carry out an annual ritual in which they make predictions for the upcoming year. Dressed in traditional Andean ponchos and headdresses, the group performed a ceremony and made predictions about the course of international relations, ongoing conflicts, and the fate of world leaders, reports the AP.

  • Maduro: This year, the shamans said Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro will be removed from office. “We have asked for Maduro to leave, to retire, for President Donald Trump of the United States to be able to remove him, and we have visualized that next year this will happen,” said shaman Ana María Simeón.
  • Trump: As for the American president himself, “The United States should prepare itself because Donald Trump will fall seriously ill,” Juan de Dios Garcia said, per RNZ.
  • Spotty record: The group has a mixed record with its annual predictions. Last year, for instance, they warned a “nuclear war” would break out between Israel and Gaza. But in December 2023, the group correctly predicted that former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori, who had been imprisoned for human rights abuses, would perish within 12 months. Fujimori died from cancer in September 2024 at the age of 86.
  • Ritual: Before Monday’s ceremony, the shamans met to drink hallucinogenic concoctions derived from native plants—including Ayahuasca and the San Pedro cactus—which are believed to give them the power to predict the future. After dancing in circles and playing ancestral instruments, the shamans asked for peace in the Middle East, an end to the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, and the fall of Maduro. The prayers to the gods, performed amid flowers and incense, as well as dances, are intended to encourage leaders to make good decisions. The shamans also predicted natural disasters, such as earthquakes and climatic phenomena.

Will these predictions be accurate….more so than some of the others I have seen?

Thoughts?

I can only hope that 2026 will be a better year.

Please be responsible and careful if you plan on celebrating the new year…..I look forward to seeing everyone next year and the comments that will follow.

Happy New Year to everyone.

See you soon.

Ever Wanted Your Own Country To Rule?

AS the year draws to an end I thought I would add a little whimsy to the mix….

People are running from the US just to be rid of the tyranny of Donny and the Gang of Bros….but there are places where you can establish your own nation with you at the center.

In a world where every inch seems spoken for, there are very few pockets of land that remain untouched by national flags and anthems. These unclaimed territories, known as terra nullius, are an opportunity for the adventurous at heart. Let’s check out all the places where you could carve out your kingdom.

Marie Byrd Land

his frozen expanse in Antarctica is the largest unclaimed land on Earth. International treaties prevent any country from claiming it, so it’s one of the last places a new nation could theoretically exist. With its extreme climate and total isolation, survival is nearly impossible—but that hasn’t stopped dreamers from imagining its possibilities.

What Did They Think They Were Getting?

Another addition to the ‘Can’t Fix Stupid’ files…..

I have been amazed at just why some people voted for Donny…..and I read an article that shows that voters have to say about the plan unfolding from their vote.

Please read the article and then comment….

All year long, the subreddit r/LeopardsAteMyFace has been filled with regretful MAGA supporters.

Usually, they’re somehow shocked that voting for Donald Trump didn’t turn out how they expected.

So, let’s take a look at 15 things that Trump supporters said they didn’t vote for:

https://www.buzzfeed.com/morgansloss1/regretful-trump-voters-complain-about-trump-admin

All I can do is laugh at their stupidity.

To me this shows just how ignorant the voter has become….after a year or more of rallies and they still did not know what they were going to get by their vote?

Seriously was their hatred of people of color that ingrained that that is all they seized upon?

Someone once said….”voting has consequences” and guess what you got just what you voted for and now you want to whine….piss off there is no sympathy here.

Plus they still hold onto the support even while they are being raped by this admin and its bully boys.

A little something extra….these are perfect examples at the rate stupidity is rising….

All I can say is ….’there is no fixin’ stupid’.

The Tragedy Of Billie Holiday

Was listening to a local blues station because I had enough of Little Drummer Boy and all, and a song came on that was a favorite of my mother….she had several albums, 78s, of Holiday and her fantastic voice….this was one of her favorites…..

This lady had a fabulous voice it is a real shame that her life was so messed up and the American government was no help at all….

Despite her status as one of the world’s most influential jazz and blues singers, Billie Holiday passed away penniless and alone.

The artist rose to stardom in the 1930s with chart-topping hits such as “Strange Fruit,” “I’ll Be Seeing You,” and “Gloomy Sunday.”

Her distinctive and emotive vocal delivery solidified her place among the all-time greats. However, behind the scenes, Holiday’s life was fraught with difficulties.

Throughout her career and life, she endured pervasive racism. Holiday was denied entry through the front doors of venues and faced segregation in hotels and public accommodations.

In 1938, Holiday made history by touring with Artie Shaw, becoming the first Black woman to lead a white jazz band. Yet, she was forced to find her own lodging as she was prohibited from staying in the same hotels as the rest of the ensemble.

The alleged catalyst for the racism she encountered was her performance of Strange Fruit – a potent protest song against the lynching of Black Americans.

Holiday’s struggle with drug addiction throughout her career made her a target for the US government, which reportedly hatched a scheme to ruin her career.

The Federal Bureau of Narcotics, headed by the purportedly racist Harry J. Anslinger, had a particular fixation on controlling and punishing Black musicians.

https://www.the-express.com/entertainment/music/193210/music-icon-penniless-hospital-bed-government

A real shame that racism was so readily accepted…..she had more talent in her little finger than some of today’s “mega-stars’….

Not many know the whole story of Holiday only her voice and music….she deserved so much better than she ever got.

And it appears that that same destructive racism is returning….will we let it?

Tech Bros And Billionaires

I will dial back the research and ranting for the next few days of this year to let my brain recharge from the drain from the holidays…..a slow down not a pause.

This country has always been at the mercy of the rich….even in the beginning and it has not slowed down at all….now since Donny’s has taken over the nation these wealthy patrons of his are controlling everything….and I do mean everything.

Technology is moving ever faster and those leading the charge are the noveau rich….the tech bros….and soon they will have it all….

“Our world is being actively remade with profound implications for national and international security,” Metreweli declared in her first statement as chief of MI6. “Power itself is becoming more diffuse, more unpredictable as control over these technologies is shifting from states to corporations and sometimes to individuals.”

She also noted that “we’re now operating in a space between peace and war.”

“This is not a temporary state or a gradual, inevitable evolution,” she continued.

Over the past few months, politicians from the ruling Labour party have grown increasingly frustrated at political meddling from tech billionaires like Elon Musk, who called for the overthrow of the UK government at a far-right rally in September.

Notably, Metreweli stopped short of calling out any billionaires by name or identifying the systemic issues that got us here, according to The Paper. Instead, she followed other ministers in centering a vague loss of public trust, rather than the profit-driven forces reshaping global power for their own interests.

“The foundations of trust in our societies are eroding,” she said. “Information, once a unifying force, is increasingly weaponized. Falsehoods spread faster than fact, dividing communities and distorting reality. We live in an age of hyper-connection yet profound isolation. The algorithms flatter our biases and fracture our public squares.”

https://futurism.com/future-society/mi6-tech-billionaires-government

There is nothing that is safe from the prying eyes of these Tech bros….everything you do, say or write is their weapon against you, the people.

Maybe it is time to resurrect the ‘Luddites”…..

Luddite?

“Luddite” is now a blanket term used to describe people who dislike new technology, but its origins date back to an early 19th-century labor movement that railed against the ways that mechanized manufacturers and their unskilled laborers undermined the skilled craftsmen of the day.

The original Luddites were British weavers and textile workers who objected to the increased use of mechanized looms and knitting frames. Most were trained artisans who had spent years learning their craft, and they feared that unskilled machine operators were robbing them of their livelihood. When the economic pressures of the Napoleonic Wars made the cheap competition of early textile factories particularly threatening to the artisans, a few desperate weavers began breaking into factories and smashing textile machines. They called themselves “Luddites” after Ned Ludd, a young apprentice who was rumored to have wrecked a textile apparatus in 1779.

https://www.history.com/articles/who-were-the-luddites

It is time for a movement against these Tech Bros and their growing power over us all….

Thanx to AI what I called for is beginning….a new ‘Luddite’ movement….

There is a genuine, Gen Z-driven Luddite renaissance building as some people reject the tech platforms that have clamored for our attention (and money) over the past two decades — a movement that seems to get stronger as those platforms, such as Instagram and TikTok, are flooded with increasingly sophisticated AI-generated content.

The original Luddites were textile workers in rural 19th century England who rose up against the rise of automated machines that threatened them with joblessness and starvation. And while the term today is often lobbed as a kind of insult for someone who doesn’t understand technology, the modern Luddites are redefining it.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/08/business/ai-luddite-movement-screens

My wish is that it expands until it is national and effective…..that may be wishful thinking…..I hope.

Last Week At The Sh*t Show–28Dec25

The last report for 2025 and boy has it been full of stuff other than the Christmasy stuff.

Let’s start with his message to the nation….

President Donald Trump isn’t feeling merry on Christmas Eve.

Trump, 79, issued a scathing screed against “Radical Left Scum” in a 101-word Truth Social post on Wednesday night.

“Merry Christmas to all, including the Radical Left Scum that is doing everything possible to destroy our Country, but are failing badly,” he began, before launching into a laundry list of issues he has repeatedly pinned on his Democratic predecessors.

“We no longer have Open Borders, Men in Women’s Sports, Transgender for Everyone, or Weak Law Enforcement.”

https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-fires-off-unhinged-merry-christmas-message-to-scum/

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/donald-trump-christmas-day-truth-social-somali-economy-b2890397.html

What a pathetic human!

He even thinks his ranting and disconnected thoughts ate a modern day Gettysburg address….

What is the 21st century equivalent of Abraham Lincoln’s historic Gettysburg Address? President Donald Trump’s Twitter account, according to President Trump.

The president made the bold and self-flattering claim while giving a White House tour to Fox News star Jesse Watters during his first term, Watters said on Saturday. Watters shared the story while giving a speech at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest 2025 in Phoenix, Arizona.

“We go up there, and there’s the Gettysburg Address, and it’s encased in glass,” Watters remembered. “And he’s standing next to it and he says, ‘You know, Jesse, some people say my Twitter account is the modern-day equivalent of the Gettysburg Address.”

Trump Called His Twitter Posts the ‘Modern-Day Equivalent of the Gettysburg Address’

What a deluded pig!

His vanity does not stoop there…..now he zeroes in on the Navy….

President Trump announced plans Monday for a new class of battleships to be named after him. “They’ll be the fastest, the biggest, and by far 100 times more powerful than any battleship ever built,” he said during the announcement at Mar-a-Lago, per the AP. The Trump-class warships would be significantly larger than today’s Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, which Trump has often derided as ugly and outdated, and are envisioned as 30,000-ton “large surface combatants” built to carry future weapons such as rail guns and high-energy lasers, a defense source tells the Wall Street Journal.

Trump said artificial intelligence capabilities will be a “big factor” in the new ships, the New York Times reports. He stressed that he wants them to be built quickly, saying he plans to meet with defense contractors next week “because they’re too slow.” The president said he plans to take a hand in designing the new ships. “The US Navy will lead the design of these ships along with me, because I’m a very aesthetic person,” he said, per the AP. The first of the new ships will be called the USS Defiant, reports Reuters. He said the government would acquire up to 25 of the ships.

The announcement comes days after the Navy rolled out plans for a new frigate to replace the recently canceled Constellation-class program. Together, the frigates and the new battleships form the backbone of the Golden Fleet idea, which would field more large ships with long-range, potentially hypersonic missiles, plus a larger number of smaller frigates based on the Coast Guard’s Legend-class National Security Cutter. At Mar-a-Lago, Navy Secretary John Phelan said the Trump-class battleships will carry the “nuclear-armed sea-launched cruise missile,” the Times reports. “This is just one piece of the president’s Golden Fleet that we’re going to build,” he said.

The AP notes that the term battleship has historically referred to “a large, heavily armored vessel armed with massive guns designed to bombard other ships or targets ashore”—a type of warship that declined in importance after WWII. Defense analysts say the Navy needs more powerful ships to defend aircraft carriers, though retired Rear Adm. Mark Montgomery, senior director at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, says the Golden Fleet is “exactly what we don’t need” because the ships are “not optimized to provide lethality against the Chinese threat.” “That is not what these are focused on—they are focused on the president’s visual that a battleship is a cool-looking ship,” he tells the Journal.

How do you think the economy is doing?

Donny has the lie for you….

With nearly one month left in the first year of President Donald Trump’s second presidency, approval ratings from voters have flipped.

Here’s how the economy could be weighing down the approval rating for the president, despite the stock market trading near record highs.

Trump was recently asked what grade he would give the economy. The president told Politico that he would give the economy an “A+” and followed his response up by saying he would give it an “A+++++.”

The Emerson College poll shows that most voters disagree with an A rating and many actually would give the president a F for his handling of the economy.

The president has boasted about stock market indexes such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average hitting all-time highs.

https://www.benzinga.com/news/politics/25/12/49522685/trump-gave-himself-an-a-on-the-economy-22-of-voters-agree-its-an-a-but-36-say-its-an-f

The markets may be all that but my wallet begs to differ with his lie….us peasants are not feeling the prosperity that Donny gives too his tech bros and billionaires.

There is a whole meme brewing around the VP and Erika Kirk…..

Erika Kirk and JD Vance shared another awkward hug that has the internet begging Usha Vance to run for the hills — or at least warn her that the hills are where the former beauty queen is trying to send her marriage. This time, the embrace in question happened on day four of Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest Conference, as seen on YouTube. Perhaps anticipating backlash, JD initiated a high five, but Kirk decided to make it weird and went in for a hug. People on the internet had a lot to say about it, because of course they did. After last time, Kirk likely knew that was going to happen the second she leaned in.

“JD Vance is clearly having an affair with Erika Kirk behind Usha’s back … ” someone speculated in a thread on X. Another user said, “Usha should be very concerned with JD Vance tight grips with ‘grieving widow’ Erika Kirk.” They claimed that Kirk saying she’d help JD become president in a future election was a possible sign of her intentions: “First Lady aspirations? … Erika is a fake.” Someone else put Usha’s apparent situation more simply. “JD had to apologize to Usha. No more. Erika Vance by 2027. Mark my words,” the X user wrote

Who knows if this is true….but the idiots that watch Reality TV will make it a ‘thing’.

Donny is always thumping his chest on the wars he stopped and yet there is another side to that story….

President Donald Trump came into office presenting himself as a peace president. “We will measure our success not only by the battles we win, but also by the wars that we end, and perhaps most importantly, the wars we never get into,” he said in his inaugural address.

By those standards, his presidency has been a failure. Trump launched nearly as many airstrikes in five months as former President Joe Biden did in his entire term, according to Armed Conflict Location and Event Data, a nonprofit that monitors wars around the world. And those airstrikes have hit places where the U.S. military was not fighting during Biden’s term, from the Caribbean to Iran.

Of course, Biden himself was guilty of the same sort of double-talk. He bragged that “the United States is not at war anywhere in the world” less than an hour after U.S. Central Command announced a new air raid on Yemen. Like death and taxes, it seems a certainty of life that American presidents will talk peace while continuing—and expanding—war.

Here are four countries where Trump has done that:

https://reason.com/2025/12/26/here-are-5-wars-trump-started-or-expanded-in-2025/

That Was The Week That Was….things do not get better they just keep getting more disjointed, insulting and pathetic….and sadly I do not see any better for 2026.

IST Saturday News Dump–27Dec25

The last weekend of 2025 and I hope 2026 is a better year….this past year has not been one I appreciated much.

Local–Almost on cue some idiot trying to fry a turkey burnt down his garage….weather on Christmas was Mid 70s to mid 55s….not the snow day that some would have desired.

Personal–My visit with the doctor was not good news…..it seems they found another shadow in my left lung and more tests are needed.

Christmas meal went off without a hitch and the clean-up was slow but finished….

The last Dump of 2025 and a hodge podge of info that I hope will entertain and inform….

The best news is about chocolate….

Fans of dark chocolate and coffee are getting a modest scientific nod—but not a free pass—to enjoy their habit. A study in the journal Aging out of King’s College London reports that people with higher blood levels of theobromine, a caffeine-related compound most concentrated in cocoa and present in smaller amounts in coffee and tea, showed signs of slower cellular aging, reports Medical News Today. As with all such studies, there are plenty of warnings about reading too much into it, but as one dietitian not involved in the research tells the Washington Post, “It’s a great reason to not feel bad about having an ounce of dark chocolate today.”

  • Researchers analyzed blood and DNA from about 1,670 adults in the UK and Germany, average age 60, and found that more theobromine in the bloodstream was linked to a slightly slower “pace of aging” as measured by DNA methylation markers, per the Post. When they checked other cocoa components, including caffeine, the association held only for theobromine.
  • The findings, however, come with major caveats. The study is observational and based on a single snapshot in time, so it cannot show that theobromine slows aging or indicate how much chocolate or coffee—if any—would be needed for a benefit. The researchers also did not rigorously track chocolate intake or type, leaving open the possibility that theobromine is standing in for other factors in people’s diets or lifestyles. Also note that theobromine is toxic at extremely high doses.
  • For those inclined to reach for a bar, dietitians suggest choosing dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa, and has cocoa listed first on the label with few other ingredients. If it says “Dutch-processed,” that is less than ideal, because it can strip away polyphenols. They also warn about sugar, saturated fat, and potential heavy metals such as cadmium and lead, particularly for pregnant people and children.

Let’s begin with a new finding about seal milk….

Seal pups may be nursing on what amounts to a biochemical powerhouse—and it could someday end up in baby formula. In a new study, researchers found that milk from gray seals contains roughly a third more distinct sugar molecules than human breast milk, and many of those sugars have never been seen before, per Phys.org. The milk is “extraordinary,” says Daniel Bojar of the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, lead author of the study in Nature Communications.

The research suggests that some of these new sugar molecules could someday be added to human infant formula to boost infants’ immune systems, or perhaps to adults to keep their gastrointestinal systems healthy. As the New York Times explains, milk has fat and protein, along with different sugars. Longer chains of sugars are called oligosaccharides, and these are key players in early-life health across mammals, helping shape gut microbes, strengthen the intestinal tract, and block invading viruses and bacteria.

The researchers followed five wild gray seals off Scotland for their full 17-day nursing period, repeatedly collecting milk and analyzing it with mass spectrometry and AI-driven tools. They found not only a broad variety of sugars, but also a shift in milk composition as pups aged, similar to how human milk changes. Specifically, researchers identified 332 separate sugar structures in seal milk, compared with about 250 known in human milk. Roughly two-thirds were previously unknown to science.

What’s more, some of the newly spotted molecules are unusually large, with chains of 28 sugar units, far exceeding the 18-unit maximum known in breast milk. Tests on human immune cells suggest the newly identified seal-milk sugars can modulate immune responses and show strong activity against disease-causing bacteria. All in all, “the study highlights the untapped biomedical potential hidden in understudied wild species,” says Bojar.

There are some health myths that many of us have heard most of our lives…..

We have a lot of misconceptions when it comes to health and wellness, from the cold-fighting powers of Vitamin C to whatever it is that crystals are supposed to do. Let’s break down a few of them, adapted from the below episode of Misconceptions on YouTube.

  1. Misconception: You need to drink eight glasses of water a day.
  2. Misconception: Caffeinated beverages dehydrate you.
  3. Misconception: Vitamin C prevents colds.
  4. Misconception: Cracking your knuckles is bad for your joints.
  5. Misconception: Crystals have healing powers.

Plastic could be converted to a painkiller….

A team of scientists has engineered bacteria that converts chemicals made from plastic bottles into a common drugstore painkiller called paracetamol, which is the active ingredient in Tylenol.

Inside small flasks in a Scottish lab, the microbes converted plastic-based starting material into paracetamol with yields approaching about 92 percent

This work was led by Prof. Stephen Wallace of the University of Edinburgh, a chemist who builds hybrid chemical-biology workflows.

His research focuses on using microbes and non-natural reactions together to make medicines and materials from everyday waste streams.

Today, manufacturers produce about 120 billion pounds of PET plastic each year. Right now, most industrial paracetamol starts its life in oil refineries, because the key starting chemicals are derived from petroleum.

Worldwide, paracetamol ranks among the most commonly used painkillers and is recommended as first-line therapy in many pain conditions.

https://www.earth.com/news/new-process-converts-plastic-bottles-into-paracetamol-drugstore-pain-killer/

Two things….will we ever hear about this again and since it is ‘Tylenol” will RFK,Jr get involved?

Death Valley Lake returns…..

It’s hard to imagine a place more hostile to water than Death Valley. This scorched landscape holds the record for the hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth, regularly sees less than two inches of rain per year, and sits at the lowest point in North America. Yet something remarkable has happened once again in late 2025. An ancient lake that vanished thousands of years ago has staged another comeback, briefly transforming the barren salt flats into a glistening body of water that has drawn visitors from across the country eager to witness this rare phenomenon.

The reappearance of this temporary lake isn’t just a curious weather event. It’s a window into a vastly different past when this desert valley was home to a massive freshwater lake teeming with life. Let’s dive in to understand how record rainfall brought this prehistoric wonder back to life

Lake That Vanished From Death Valley Has Reappeared Again

Do animals feel emotions?

You’ve probably looked into your dog’s eyes and felt certain they understood your sadness. Or watched your cat sulk after being scolded. These moments feel deeply real, yet for centuries, science has struggled to prove what pet owners have always known. Now, with cutting-edge technology and fresh perspectives, researchers are finally peeling back the layers of animal emotional life. What they’re discovering might make you see the natural world in a completely different light.

The answers emerging from labs around the globe are both fascinating and unsettling. They challenge our assumptions about which creatures deserve moral consideration and force us to confront uncomfortable questions about how we treat animals in farms, zoos, and research facilities.

Do Animals Feel Emotions Like Humans? New Studies Reveal Surprising Truths

Would you claim your furry friend as a dependent?

There is no doubt that Americans love their pets, and now one woman is suing the U.S. Internal Revenue Service to claim her dog as a deductible dependent.

This move might not come as a surprise, as dog culture is mainstream in American living, from dog “paw-rents” to dog social media accounts with millions of followers. Pets have steadily become more prioritized in U.S. households.

A Pew Research Center survey found that nearly all U.S. pet owners — a whopping 97% — say their pets are part of their family. Additionally, the survey found that over half of American pet owners consider their furry friends as much a part of their family as a human member.

19 And Counting

This is a look back at the journey this blog has taken (sorta a tradition every year)….

My blogging journey began in 2006….in 2005 I was working to rehab a house that Katrina had damaged when part of it collapsed and broke my leg in 3 places….after a year of 2 surgeries and rehab I was bored with not being as mobile as I once was so I decided to start a blog since I was doing a lot of research on-line it seemed like a good idea.

So 19 years ago I started my blog (on another platform) it was entitled Studies and Observations…..this was my first post announcing me to the blogosphere…

INTRODUCTION

Thus I began my journey…..

After some months I was not happy with the platform I was on so I started looking for an alternative and finally settled on WordPress and had my previous posts imported to my new site which was entitle Info Ink….after awhile I lost interests in the Title so after a bit of tweaking I decided on In Saner Thought.

Early in my blogging journey trying to find a ‘hook’ that would get people to visit and hopefully comment I tried a semi-humorous post which has become my top visit….

Watermelon Makes You Horny

Thus began my journey in making new friends and dealing out my brand of analysis.

And my friends this is how this all began for me and it has been a journey that is well worth the aggravations that pop up once in awhile.

I want to thank all those visitors and commenters that have stuck with me over the years for it has been a wonderful ride and I would not change a thing.

Thank you!

Here’s to another 19 years.

Peace Out.

Note:  This will be my only post today for now I must return my house to some form of normal after a month of holiday, cooking, visitors and family…I hope everyone has a great day.

Christmas–2025

+++Merry Christmas+++

Today is the big day when families get together and celebrate in their way the time of the year….it will be filled gifts, food, joy and lots of napping.

I shall be busy once again with meal prep from cooking the ham and mac and cheese while my daughter will be in charge of the sides like corn, peas, bean casserole and sweet potatoes….Sue’s son will be in charge of the dessert and of course yours truly will bring the wine to the meal.

I thought that I would give my readers some FYI about Christmas superstitions….

Whether it’s kissing under the mistletoe or first-footing after midnight at New Year, the holiday season comes with more than its fair share of superstitions and good-luck traditions.

Aside from all the ones we still know and follow today, though, the history books are full of all kinds of bizarre festive quirks and folklore, all intended to ensure a happy Christmas or long-lasting good luck into the year ahead. Five of the most peculiar and longest-forgotten of these are explored here.

  1. The Yule Goat
  2. Apple Wassailing
  3. Christmas Underwear
  4. Christmas Morning’s Dew
  5. Good Luck Pies

Look closely enough at a Christmas tree in parts of Scandinavia, and you might see a small straw effigy of a goat, tied up in red ribbons, hanging from one of its frontmost branches. Wander the streets of a nearby town, meanwhile, and you might see a larger one outside a local business—or, in parts of Sweden at least, an enormous one in the town square.

This is the julbock, or “Yule goat”—a traditional decoration, often said to bring good luck and bounty in the year ahead. The origins of the julbock are thought to date back to pre-Christian times.

https://www.mentalfloss.com/holidays/christmas/christmas-superstitions-probably-never-knew

We all have some traditions we try to uphold but there also some superstitions that some observe….

I hope everyone got the things they had on there list and that your day with family, friends, food and football was safe one…..

I hope the rest of your day is filled with joy…..

I know it is a joyous time and the last thing most people want to think about is politics…..so I will refrain from my ranting and offer a little FYI and some history….

Most of us have that traditional tree with the colorful gifts and the lights and memories of Christmas past hanging from its limbs….but did you ever wonder where this tradition began?

I can help….

Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort, is usually credited with having introduced the Christmas tree into England in 1840. However, the honour of establishing this tradition in the United Kingdom rightfully belongs to ‘good Queen Charlotte’, the German wife of George III, who set up the first known English tree at Queen’s Lodge, Windsor, in December, 1800.

Legend has it that Queen Charlotte’s compatriot, Martin Luther, the religious reformer, invented the Christmas tree. One winter’s night in 1536, so the story goes, Luther was walking through a pine forest near his home in Wittenberg when he suddenly looked up and saw thousands of stars glinting jewel-like among the branches of the trees. This wondrous sight inspired him to set up a candle-lit fir tree in his house that Christmas to remind his children of the starry heavens from whence their Saviour came.

Certainly by 1605 decorated Christmas trees had made their appearance in Southern Germany. For in that year an anonymous writer recorded how at Yuletide the inhabitants of Strasburg ‘set up fir trees in the parlours … and hang thereon roses cut out of many-coloured paper, apples, wafers, gold-foil, sweets, etc.’

In other parts of Germany box trees or yews were brought indoors at Christmas instead of firs. And in the duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, where Queen Charlotte grew up, it was the custom to deck out a single yew branch.

The poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) visited Mecklenburg-Strelitz in December, 1798, and was much struck by the yew-branch ceremony that he witnessed there, the following account of which he wrote in a letter to his wife dated April 23rd, 1799:

‘On the evening before Christmas Day, one of the parlours is lighted up by the children, into which the parents must not go; a great yew bough is fastened on the table at a little distance from the wall, a multitude of little tapers are fixed in the bough … and coloured paper etc. hangs and flutters from the twigs. Under this bough the children lay out the presents they mean for their parents, still concealing in their pockets what they intend for each other. Then the parents are introduced, and each presents his little gift; they then bring out the remainder one by one from their pockets, and present them with kisses and embraces’.

Now when someone casually brings up the tree you can impress them with this knowledge.

This will be my only offering today for I have a ton of chores to do before the cooking and the revelry begins….

I hope everyone has a wonderful day and remember to be responsible if you are out celebrating the season…..and as always…..Be Well and Be Safe….

Merry Christmas to all and thank you.
