The ‘Dream’ Is Dead!

An article I recently read is what made me want to look deeper it this subject….

CNN data analyst Harry Enten crunched the numbers and discovered a large swathe of U.S. residents no longer believe in the American dream.

“America, we have a problem,” said Enten, describing a growing nation of economic pessimists.

“If you work hard, you’ll get ahead: that is the American dream,” said Enten. “[Respondents answering] ‘Never/Not true now’, in 2010 to 2011, 15 years ago, it was 51 percent who said it wasn’t true. Now look at this number! Whooo! Through the roof: 70 percent.”

https://www.alternet.org/american-voters-pessimism/

I have written a couple of times about the death of the American Dream….not too many agreed with me but I continue to believe that it has passed away.

The ‘American Dream’ Has Died

A new survey shows me that I am not as alone as I thought I was thinking the ‘Dream’ has died.

A new Wall Street Journal-NORC poll paints a dim picture of Americans’ faith in upward mobility. Just 25% of respondents believe they have a decent shot at improving their standard of living—a record low since the survey began in 1987. More than three-quarters of those who responded to the poll, which the Independent notes was “fittingly published” on Labor Day, expect that the next generation will fare no better, signaling a widespread loss of confidence in the American dream.

Almost 70% of those polled now say the idea that hard work pays off “no longer holds true or never did,” the highest level of skepticism in more than a decade. The pessimism spans political and demographic lines. While Republicans are slightly less gloomy than Democrats—consistent with the tendency for the party out of power to hold a darker view—majorities across gender, age, education, and income levels express anxiety about their future prospects.

Despite recent improvements in how people rate the current economy, concerns linger. Inflation, job security, and the soaring cost of housing weigh heavily. Only 17% now view the United States as having the world’s best economy, down sharply from just a few years ago. Many respondents across income brackets report feeling economically fragile, even when their finances are solid on paper.

Since the pandemic, economic mood has soured, even as metrics like unemployment and the stock market suggest resilience. Economists suggest today’s unease may be rooted less in current conditions and more in uncertainty about the future. A similar question in a July poll by Quinnipiac University found that 50% of respondents were also souring on the American dream, per the Miami Herald.

What say you…..is the American Dream deceased?

Can it ever be revived?

Well can it?

How much more must the American people suffer before someone steps up and leads?

9/11/2001

Today we remember the cowardly attack on US soil by the bastards of AQ…..that attack changed America and the world forever.

September 11, 2001 is an inflection point—there was life before the terrorist attacks and there is life after them. Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed on that clear, sunny morning when two hijacked airplanes crashed into the World Trade Center towers in New York City, another plowed into the Pentagon and a fourth was brought down in a crash on a Pennsylvania field by heroic passengers who fought back against terrorists.

“This was an attack unprecedented in the annals of terrorism in terms of its scale,” says Brian Michael Jenkins, a senior advisor to the president of the RAND Corporation and author of numerous reports and books on terrorism, including Will Terrorists Go Nuclear?. “It was the largest attack by any foreign entity on U.S. soil.”

The shock and horror of September 11th wasn’t confined to days or weeks. The attacks cast a long shadow over American life from which the nation has yet to fully emerge. What was once implausible and nearly unthinkable—a large-scale attack on American soil—became a collective assumption. The terrorists could very well attack again, perhaps with biological or nuclear weapons, and steps must be taken to stop them.

“Terrorism is aimed at carrying out acts of violence that will cause people to exaggerate the strength of the terrorist and the importance of their cause,” says Jenkins.

Consumed by fear, grief and outrage, America turned to its leaders for action. Congress and the White House answered with an unprecedented expansion of military, law enforcement and intelligence powers aimed at rooting out and stopping terrorists, at home and abroad.

“After the 9/11 attacks, the combination of fear and a recognition of various intelligence failures led to a range of policy changes that included restrictions on immigration, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, and the expansion of the ‘no fly list’ from a very small number of people to thousands,” says David Sterman, a senior policy analyst at New America who studies terrorism and violent extremism.

And that was just the beginning. Here are five significant ways that America was changed by 9/11.

https://www.history.com/articles/september-11-changes-america

There are those that still suffer from the attacks….mostly the first responders who have some catastrophic health issues.

Please take a moment and think about those that died in that attack and as a result of the attacks.

The Shot Heard Throughout MAGA-ville

Yesterday there was yet another shooting and this time it took out a MAGA favorite, Charlie Kirk….

Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was shot during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. A law enforcement official tells the AP that Kirk was hospitalized in critical condition. NBC News reports that disturbing videos from the scene show Kirk slumping down in his seat, with blood flowing from his neck. In an alert, the Orem, Utah, university said “a single shot was fired on campus toward a visiting speaker,” Deseret News reports. The university initially said a suspect was in custody, but UVU spokesman Scott Trotter later said police had determined the man taken into custody was not the shooter, the New York Times reports. Videos on social media showed police detaining an older man at the event.

Kirk is the CEO and co-founder of conservative youth organization Turning Point USA, the AP reports. “We are confirming that he was shot and we are praying for Charlie,” said Aubrey Laitsch, the organization’s public relations manager. Kirk, 31, is a close ally of President Trump and the “America First” movement. “We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot,” the president said in a Truth Social post. “A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!” The shooting was condemned by Republican and Democratic politicians alike, with California Gov. Gavin Newsom calling it “disgusting, vile, and reprehensible,” reports CNN.

Kirk was speaking at the university as part of his “American Comeback” tour. UVU professor Michael Andersen tells KSL News that he heard what he thought was a firework while Kirk, who was sitting in a tent, answered a question. “Then people started running out of the amphitheater and I saw some people trying to get up out of the terraces, Andersen says. “As I was walking away, as we were evacuating, the person next to me said he saw Charlie Kirk get hit.” He says the atmosphere was “fairly panicked” after the shooting.

Then later yesterday it had been confirmed the Kirk was indeed dead.

Charlie Kirk is dead, President Trump announced Wednesday, hours after the conservative commentator was shot in the neck during an event at Utah Valley University. Kirk was 31.

  • “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
  • In another post, Trump said he was ordering all American flags in the US be lowered to half-mast until 6pm Sunday to honor Kirk, “a truly Great American Patriot.”
  • Utah House Speaker Mike Schultz said law enforcement officials told him the Turning Point USA founder had died, Deseret News reports. University officials say the shooter is not in custody. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said he had spoken to Trump about Kirk’s death, KSL News reports. “Working with the FBI and Utah law enforcement, we will bring to justice the individual responsible for this tragedy,” he said. “Those responsible will be held fully accountable. Violence has no place in our public life. Americans of every political persuasion must unite in condemning this act. Our prayers are with Charlie, his family, and all those affected.”

And the hunt goes on….

The person of interest who was taken into custody in connection with the murder of Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University on Wednesday has been released following an interrogation, says FBI Director Kash Patel. He wrote on X, “Our investigation continues and we will continue to release information in interest of transparency.” NBC News reports Patel’s about-face came about 90 minutes after he had announced the shooter was in custody. Utah Gov. Spencer Cox had strong words for the shooter, per the Deseret News: “I want to make it crystal clear right now to whoever did this, we will find you.”

President Trump posted a four-minute video on Truth Social Wednesday night addressing the shooting:

  • He called Kirk a “martyr for truth and freedom, and there’s never been anyone who was so respected by youth. … This is a dark moment for America. Charlie Kirk traveled the nation joyfully engaging with everyone interested in good faith debate. His mission was to bring young people into the political process, which he did better than anybody ever, to share his love of country and to spread the simple words of common sense.”
  • “It’s long past time for all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom you disagree,” Trump continued. “For years those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world’s worst mass murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we’re seeing in our country today and it must stop right now.”

What typical bullshit from Donny….stoking the fires of hatred.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family (is that not what one says when there is a shooting death?)

Never fret….this will happen again…just a matter of time.

Then there is the call for all people to come together against this type of violence…..and the House was not the poster child for this call….

Two thousand miles east of Orem, Utah, where Charlie Kirk was shot to death on Wednesday, the House of Representatives honored the political commentator with a moment of silence—followed by a shouting match. With every lawmaker in the chamber still standing quietly in observance, Rep. Lauren Boebert demanded that Speaker Mike Johnson recite a prayer for Kirk aloud, the Washington Post reports. “Silent prayers get silent results,” the Republican hollered from the back of the chamber. That was met with jeers from Democrats about gun laws. Rep. Jahana Hayes shouted that school shootings, including one earlier in the day in Boebert’s home state of Colorado, are ignored, per the Wall Street Journal.

Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, a friend of Kirk’s, stormed out of the chamber while yelling profanities at the Democrats, per Politico. Johnson, who had led the moment of silence, eventually was able to gavel a brief halt to the chaos and move on to the next piece of business. That was the swearing-in of Democratic Rep. James Walkinshaw, who’d won a special election the day before in northern Virginia. When he ripped President Trump in his remarks for actions including the mass layoffs of federal employees, Republicans jeered back. “Scoreboard,” one member said, referring to the GOP holding a House majority.

What a pack of clowns!

Things Are Getting Ugly

Between tariffs and sanctions the economy is suffering with Trumponomics……..the latest jobs report is one example but there are others….

We got a much better sense of what the American labor market is doing today. And the news was not good.

The economy added only 22,000 jobs last month, far fewer than economists had predicted, according to a new release from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The new data also shows that the economy gained slightly more jobs in July than we thought at the time, but that it actually lost 13,000 jobs in June — making that month the first since 2020 to see a true decline in U.S. employment.

The unemployment rate now stands at 4.3%, one tenth of a percent higher than it was last month. All in all, the American labor market has been frozen since President Trump declared “Liberation Day” and announced a bevy of new tariffs in April.

On the one hand, some aspects of that job loss shouldn’t be a surprise. As we’ve covered at Heatmap, the Trump administration has spent the past few months attacking the wind, solar, and electric vehicle industries. It has yanked subsidies from new electricity generation, rewritten rules on the fly, and waged an all-out regulatory war on offshore wind farms. Electricity costs are rising nationwide, constraining essentially all power-dependent industries except artificial intelligence.

https://heatmap.news/economy/jobs-report-manufacturing-trump

Remember the promise by Donny that manufacturing jobs would return top the US with his tariffs?

So far that has not been the case.

The U.S. manufacturing industry shed more workers in August despite policies from President Donald Trump’s administration aimed at bolstering the sector.

The United States lost 12,000 manufacturing jobs for the month, continuing a downward trend since its most recent peak in February 2023, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. Overall, employers added a disappointing 22,000 jobs in August, signaling a slowdown in U.S. hiring.

It will take time to see how tariffs’ impact on the manufacturing labor force plays out. So far this year, the uncertainty around the new trade policies and consumer spending has prompted some businesses to slow hirings.

“There’s no good reason for manufacturing to be hiring right now, and there are a lot of good reasons for it to be taking it easy,” said Ron Hetrick, a senior economist at labor market analytics company Lightcast.

Manufacturing job loss isn’t exclusive to the Trump administration. Jobs in the industry – which slid to 12.7 million in August, or about 8% of total nonfarm employment – have dipped dramatically since their peak in 1979 when they accounted for roughly 22% of total employment. While there were gains made after the Great Recession, jobs began trending down again in early 2023.

That downward trend has continued into 2025, with the sector losing roughly 78,000 jobs over the year through August, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

I guess the kneejerk reaction to stats that Donny did not appreciate and the firing of the head of the BLS is not going to make his ‘Save America Economy’ any better.

Another Expansion By Israel

The news lit up with an Israeli airstrike in the nation of Qatar….according to Israel it was targeting the Hamas team that was negotiating a possible peace.

The Israeli military launched airstrikes in Doha, Qatar, on Tuesday in an attempt to target Hamas political leadership, marking a major Israeli escalation in the region that dims any hope of a ceasefire in Gaza.

A source told Al Jazeera that the attack occurred while Hamas officials were gathered to discuss a ceasefire proposal from the US. Suhail al-Hindi, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, said that Hamas’s leadership survived the attack, while the son of acting Hamas political bureau chief Khalil al-Hayya was killed, along with several of his aides. Qatar’s Interior Ministry said that a Qatari security officer was also killed in the attack.

Hamas later issued a statement that said none of its political leaders were killed in the attack. It said a total of six people were killed, including al-Hayya’s son, four office staff, and the Qatari officer.

According to Israeli media, Israeli warplanes dropped more than 10 bombs on a residential building where Israel believed Hamas leaders were gathering, an area of Doha near schools and embassies. Qatar has hosted a Hamas office since 2012, a step it took at the request of the US.

Sources told Middle East Eye President Trump “blessed” the attack on Qatar, which his a major non-NATO ally of the US and hosts about 10,000 US troops, although US officials speaking to other media outlets claim that the US was notified while Israeli warplanes were in the air.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later commented on the attack, saying it doesn’t advance US and Israeli goals while also backing the idea of targeting Hamas officials. “The Trump administration was notified by the United States military that Israel was attacking Hamas, which very unfortunately, was located in a section of Doha, the capital of Qatar,” she said.

“Unilaterally bombing inside Qatar, a sovereign nation and close ally of the United States that is working very hard and bravely taking risks with us to broker peace does not advance Israel or America’s goals. However, eliminating Hamas, who have profited off the misery of those living in Gaza is a worthy goal,” Leavitt added.

She said that Trump “believes this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for peace.”

Israeli Prime Minister claimed the attack was “a wholly independent Israeli operation. Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility.”

I do not think that this will further the pursuit of a peaceful ceasefire.

Always A Class Act

I wish I could say that about people in the Trump Administration….but I just cannot without crossing my fingers behind my back.

The latest ‘class act’ comes from Donny’s Sec of Treasury…..

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent may come off as a low-key guy in public, but he’s apparently got an ornery side in private. Earlier this year, he got into a heated clash with Elon Musk at the White House. Now, Politico reports on a new confrontation, this time with another top economic official: federal housing agency director Bill Pulte. At a swanky private dinner with other bigwigs and donors, Bessent confronted Pulte and accused him of bad-mouthing him to the president, writes Rachel Bade. (President Trump wasn’t at the dinner.)

“I’m gonna punch you in your f—ing face,” the story quotes Bessent as saying. When a third party intervened, Bessent suggested to Pulte that they go outside so Bessent could “f—ing beat your a–.” In the end, they didn’t go outside, and the evening proceeded without fisticuffs and the men at opposite ends of the room.

  • “Maybe switch to decaf?” snarks Washingtonian magazine.
  • “Scott Bessent Really Wants to Beat Up His Co-workers” is the headline on a piece in New York about the argument. For the record, the magazine thinks the 63-year-old Bessent would best the 37-year-old Pulte because he has “the advantage of a longer reach and the fire in his belly to wreck his co-workers.”
  • Pulte may be best known for leading the push to oust Federal Reserve governor Lisa Cook.

Now that is a class act.

Here’s an idea…..let these macho pricks get in a ring and duke it out and make it pay-per-view…..would help solve a bit of our deficit problem.

Just a thought.

A Failed Mission–2019

This is a mission from 6 years….a mission that did not go off as planned…..

That mission was to the shores of North Korea…..

The New York Times is for the first time revealing a secret mission by Navy SEALs in North Korea that unraveled in dramatic fashion back in 2019. It reads like an espionage thriller, though one with fatal consequences for up to three North Korea fishermen. Under a top-secret plan approved by President Trump, SEAL Team 6’s Red Squadron—the same unit famous for killing Osama bin Laden—used mini submarines to reach the North Korean shore at nighttime in early winter. Their mission was to sneak ashore and plant a newly developed listening device to pick up on Kim Jong Un’s communications. Some of the SEALs had made it to shore when the trouble came:

  • “A North Korean boat appeared out of the dark. Flashlights from the bow swept over the water. Fearing that they had been spotted, the SEALs opened fire. Within seconds, everyone on the North Korean boat was dead.”

In the aftermath, the SEALs discovered that those on the boat appeared to be civilians diving for shellfish—they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The divers apparently heard the subs and began to investigate, with one of them actually jumping in the water. The story explains that the SEALs were incommunicado and had to make a split-second decision on what to do. After killing the divers, they aborted the mission to plant the device, returned to their larger submarine, and headed to open sea. The story alleges that the Trump administration did not brief members of Congress before or after the mission, adding that the “lack of notification may have violated the law.”

It is interesting that this ‘mission was met with utter silence….I recall a failed mission back in 1979 when Carter sent special ops into Iran to free the hostages…..this one met with failure and the GOP never let him live that failure down.

This one is too hush-hush for it to be held against Donny and the idiots.

So that means that the US does not trust South Korea on the intel they provide on NK….

I am sure there is more to this story than we have right now…..I will be watching….

Is The Plan Coming Together?

Is the plan to eliminate Venezuela’s leadership finally coming together?

President Donald Trump euphorically concluded his White House press conference on September 2 with breaking news: the US military had just blown up a small motor vessel in the middle of the Caribbean Sea. He alleged that the skiff came from Venezuela and was loaded with illicit drugs headed to the US.

On social media, he further embellished his story by saying that the crew were members of the Tren de Aragua cartel, which Trump claims is controlled by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Trump alleges that this cartel is “responsible for mass murder, drug trafficking, sex trafficking, and acts of violence across the US.”

All the elements, especially US impunity, are in place to eventually attempt a decapitation strike eliminating the South American nation’s leadership.

Trump ominously boasted at his press conference “there is more where that came from” for Venezuela. Just four days earlier, Washington’s “historic partner” Israel had assassinated the Yemeni prime minister and his civilian cabinet. Arguably, the word “partner” understates the intimate level of integration between the two. The Israelis have been perpetrating a live-streamed genocide in Gaza for over 700 days while receiving daily airlifts of military supplies under both Biden and Trump.

https://original.antiwar.com/Roger_Harris/2025/09/08/all-elements-in-place-for-a-us-decapitation-strike-on-venezuela/

As usual the Congress is asleep at the wheel…..a position they relish for they do not have to do anything just a nod and collect their rewards….

Military tensions in the southern Caribbean have rapidly grown following President Trump’s decision to launch an airstrike on a boat allegedly smuggling drugs near Venezuela. As the U.S. announced the deployment of 10 F-35 fighter jets to bolster its forces in the region, a pair of Venezuelan planes flew over an American warship in a move that the Pentagon described as “highly provocative.”

All evidence suggests that a broader military operation could be in the offing. Last Thursday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio pledged to continue the attacks and said regional governments “will help us find these people and blow them up.”

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, asked whether the end goal is regime change in Venezuela, told Fox and Friends that the Pentagon is “prepared with every asset that the American military has” should Trump choose to move forward with such an operation.

The rapid escalation seems to have put Congress on the back foot. While many lawmakers moved quickly to condemn Trump’s attacks on Iran earlier this year, strikingly few members of Congress have shown the same level of enthusiasm when it comes to Venezuela.

https://responsiblestatecraft.org/venezuela-war/

People you do realize that Donny does not care about some illegal drug problem…..it is nothing more than an excuse for his actions.

Once again the US will go into the breach simply for regime change….been done before and did not always end well….how about this time?

Why Are Red States Exempt?

Dear Donny has been flexing what muscle he has in DC and in turn is threatening other Blue States and cities with federal intervention….like NYC, California, Chicago, etc…..but why are Red sites exempt from this  intervention?

The New York Times’ David W. Chen, in an article published on Labor Day 2025, emphasizes that some of the most violent cities in the U.S. are in red states.

“When Tennessee’s Republican governor, Bill Lee, dispatched his National Guard troops to Washington to support President Trump’s crackdown on crime,” Chen reports, “Democrats and other critics wondered why he didn’t keep them within state lines. Memphis, after all, has long been one of the most dangerous cities in the country, with a murder rate about twice as high as the nation’s capital, according to FBI statistics. Nashville has a higher rate of violent crime than Washington as well.”

The New York Times reporter continues, “The same questions could be asked of other Republican governors like Greg Abbott in Texas, Mike DeWine in Ohio and Mike Kehoe in Missouri, since cities under their purview all have higher rates of violent crime than the nation’s capital. Yet no Republican governor has asked for federal intervention.”

Chen notes that the “image of red-state governors mustering uniformed troops for duty in blue-state cities” has “left many Americans with the foreboding sense of a nation dangerously divided, perhaps even drifting toward open conflict.”

Chen explains, “Kansas City, St. Louis and Springfield, Mo.; Birmingham, Ala.; Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo, Ohio; Tulsa, Okla.; Memphis and Nashville; Houston; Little Rock, Ark.; Salt Lake City; and Shreveport, La., all have crime rates comparable to Washington’s, according to FBI statistics…. Indeed, Republican governors who have so far declined to ask the president for an intervention in their cities might be tempted to rethink that stance.”

Why indeed.

First it sits well with those mental midgets that are die hard MAGA fans to blame everything on Dems….second it is Little Donny Do-wrong getting even with people and places that have somehow ‘wronged’ him in the past.

Winds Of Change?

After decades of building a public support for the money being spent on policies to counter the ‘China problem’…..is about to change…..and after spending billions upon billions to protect Taiwan…..

The newly rebranded Department of War is expected to release a National Defense Strategy that prioritizes missions in the homeland and the Western Hemisphere over countering China and Russia, a shift from the Pentagon’s policy in recent years, which has placed China as the top priority, according to a report from POLITICO.

The report said that the new NDS has been placed on the desk of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, who could make changes to the document before it’s released. The news comes as the US military has been deploying National Guard troops in US cities and has sent an armada of warships near Venezuela in the Caribbean, where it recently bombed a boat allegedly carrying drugs.

A new NDS that de-prioritizes China doesn’t mean that the US will slow its military buildup in the Asia Pacific, since China is still expected to be the top priority outside of the Western Hemisphere. Colby is also overseeing the Pentagon’s Global Posture Review, which could lead to US troop reductions in Europe and the Middle East, potentially allowing more troops to be deployed to Latin America and Asia.

(antiwar.com)

After the attack on the so-called drug boat off the coast of Venezuela the US is focusing more and more on Latin America…. we have moved a navy flotilla into the waters off Venezuela and after the boat attack the jets of Lula’s military keeps buzzing the American ships….

Here we go again….another regime change to waste money on yet again….

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Wednesday didn’t rule out the possibility of the US military pursuing regime change in Venezuela and suggested more US strikes on boats in the region were coming.

Hegseth made the comments in an interview on Fox News on Wednesday morning, the day after the US bombed a boat in the Southern Caribbean that it claimed without evidence was carrying drugs, marking the first US kinetic military action in the name of combating drug trafficking, though the real purpose of the attack may be part of a new push to oust Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

“We have assets in the air, assets in the water, assets on ships because this is a deadly serious mission for us, and it won’t stop … with just this strike,” Hegseth said. “Anyone else trafficking in those waters who we know is a designated narco-terrorist will face the same fate.”

When asked if the goal was regime change in Venezuela, Hegseth said that was a “presidential decision” and added that “we’re prepared with every asset that the American military has.”

Every administration has to have in its sights a nation for regime change……

Why is that?
