Closing Thought–09Apr18

Remember Jim Bakker?

He  had a evangelical TV show for years, the PTL Club…that is until he got caught with his drawers down with one Jessica Hahn….then he got nailed to fraud….well he got out of prison and started a new religious scam…..

Anyway I give you this short history lesson because he has weighed in on the Stormy vs Trump thingy……

Squashing accusations that President Trump had a sexual encounter with porn star “Stormy Daniels” while he was married to Melania, televangelist Jim Bakker explained to his audience Friday that he had confirmed that Trump was merely scheduling private time with the woman in a hotel suite in order to share with her the good news of Jesus Christ, as he had become acquainted with her and was very concerned that she was not a Christian.

“It is preposterous to assert that a virtuous believer like Mr. Trump would cheat on his beautiful wife so callously, and while their child was only months old,” a solemn Bakker said into the camera as colorful balloons provided a backdrop for some reason. “He was so concerned with the eternal state of Miss Daniels’ soul that he scheduled some alone time with just the two of them, so he could share with her how Jesus Christ had changed his life and how He could also save her from her sins.”

Nearly choking up with tears, Bakker went on to explain how much he loves and looks up to Trump as a model saint.

“Our president even arranged through his attorney to give this woman $130,000 in an attempt to help rescue her from the destructive adult film industry and get her life back on track. What a man of God!”

The televangelist ended his broadcast by wagering that there were probably “many, many more” sex-industry workers like Daniels who could tell a similarly inspiring story about President Trump.

Can I get an Amen?

AS I have said…the religious right has been silent or supporting Trump during all this sex stuff……to me they have LOST THE MORAL HIGH GROUND!

  1. I have fortunately avoided all TV evangelists. (We don’t get them in the UK)
Left to me, I would hang all those hypocrites from the nearest lamp-post!
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. When you spent the 80’s preaching material rewards are a sign of God’s love, it’s no surprise 80’s Lifestyles of The Rich & Famous regular Donald Trump can do no wrong.

I grew up watching re-runs of Jim & Tammy’s first real gig.

Oddly enough, I can’t find a clip with the stars. It was sort of a down-market New Zoo Revue. (Boy, did I ever have a thing for Emmy Jo!) Or H.R Puffnstuff, but with a hell of a lot less LSD. Although, I heard Jim & Tammy had a few “funny cigarettes” during their puppet show days. Shit, everyone involved with 70’s kids shows was high all the time.

A few years later, me & my boys used to occasionally watch the PTL Club for shits & giggles. We placed bets on how long it would take Tammy Faye to cry. Just by watching, even I figured out they had oversold their condos, the thing that started their legal troubles. I also remember the real villain was the evil Jerry Falwell. Wichypoo on steroids. That rat bastard straight up stole Jim & Tammy’s empire and then did everything he could to drive nails in their coffins. Some “fellow Christian”.

As much as Jim & Tammy earned their fate….it was also a “watershed moment” for evangelicals. They went from the largely apolitical “happy-faced Christianity” of the 70’s to the nasty, hate-driven, right-wing political power brokers of the 80’s & beyond. They were nuts and crooked, but Jim & Tammy at least started from a good place. I don’t think that can be said of anyone out there today.

      1. In my neck of the woods, PTL was a weekend, after-midnight, show. I can’t believe that was by accident. I think it either replaced, or was paired up with, Benny Hill….which shockingly ran uncensored on US local TV for a while! Occasional boobies…on American TV!

Of course, this has all plunged me down yet another nostalgia bottle hole. After remembering the era’s puppet-show competition like (Canadians) Sid & Marty Krofft’s H.R Pufnstuf and The New Zoo Revue…I remembered the HUGE crush I had for Emmy Jo when watching syndicated re-runs around puberty. Dancing around in mini-skirts and go-go boots all the time…Jesus!

Since then, I’ve been looking up the stone cold foxes of 70’s kids TV.
I miss all that crazy, dope-fuelled, shit. Don’t get me started, or I’ll be “Surfin'” down to the Hamilton rehab clinic.

      2. That’s fine…as long as that’s not the (now dirty sounding) Make Room For Daddy era Sherry Jackson you had a crush on. I hope it’s the Star Trek episode What Are Little Girls Made Of? era Sherry Jackson. I still remember that…”gravity defying outfit” she wore that sent me into orbit seeing it as a youngern’ in the late 70’s. (Network censors actually stuck in place with Shatner’s toupee tape!) I also vaguely remember a Rockford Files appearance and her being on Batman!

Like a total sexist pig, I remember her in the outfits, but her name has long slipped my memory. After looking her up, I realize I saw a LOT of her on TV in the late 70’s. She made the rounds of almost all my favourite shows…The Streets of San Francisco, Charlie’s Angel’s, Starsky & Hutch, CHIPS, The Incredible Hulk, Fantasy Island (fantasy indeed!) Vega$ and another recently mentioned show (because of its association to both Midsomer Murders & Archer)….Barnaby Jones! (Feel free to ask about the connection, as I’m already down the rabbit hole…you psy-opping bastard! Jesus…Me, falling for a honey-trap.)

A few months back, I saw her appearance on The Twilight Zone as the love interest for future Georgia Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane (who was on the show 3 times). So despite having to look her up, Sherry Jackson burned herself into my -er- “impressionable mind” as a child. And going by a 2012 interview (unsure if it was before/after her serious bout with pneumonia) she STILL looked amazing! She looked younger than I do! (Clearly, she’s made a deal with Satan.)

However, I don’t think she ever was on a kid-TV show as a teen/adult…which was the kind of the point of my “too hot for kids-TV” comment…That aside, she’s still a GREAT choice for a crush from that period! I guess I had one on her too and just didn’t remember.

So, keep your heart pills handy… and enjoy! The festivities begin with Starsky & Hutch.

      3. Okay I watched it twice…..I missed some of her parts while I was in the Army and then in traveling….Damn fine woman! Thanx for that….I have my hand lotion I must withdraw to the “Den”….chuq
