Day Of Protest

Yesterday was the big day for the students to protest the killings in our schools……

Ten days before a massive rally against gun violence in Washington, DC, students across the country will walk out of school Wednesday to mark one month since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. Students at elementary schools, high schools, and universities will walk out at 10am local time for 17 minutes to honor the 17 victims killed and to call for stricter gun laws, reports USA Today. A website for Empower, the youth branch of the Women’s March, shows more than 3,100 walkouts planned (NBC News has an interactive map to help you find those near you), and not only in the US. Students in Germany, Israel, and Australia, are taking part. Non-students are also encouraged to participate by wearing orange or walking out of their jobs.

Democrats in Congress will do so. They’re expected to join students following a march from the White House to the Capitol, where a haunting memorial was seen Tuesday. Some students will face suspension, per the Los Angeles Times. But “my peers and I feel there is no time more critical than this to make clear that we have had enough of gun violence,” says a senior at University High School in Tucson, Ariz., where students plan to call lawmakers, per USA Today. “For far too long, it has made us feel unsafe in our communities and in our classrooms.” The walkouts are a precursor to the March For Our Lives, expected to draw 500,000 people to Washington on March 24. Thousands more will participate in sister marches. Another walkout is planned for April 20, the 19th anniversary of the Columbine shooting.

It does this old radical’s heart good to see that someone is decided that civil disobedience is making a comeback after so many years of being dormant.

To all adults….Lead, Follow or GTFO of the way!

The IST seal of approval……

  1. Like you, I am pleased to see the young generation finally standing up. But I fear any success will be limited, as long as the American love of guns continues in most of the population. Including many of the parents of those marching.
    Best wishes, Pete.

  2. I have sympathy for the children – all the shootings have been awful, but as far as all these walkouts – the children I saw on the news yesterday weren’t in dire emotional stress – they were happy to have a valid reason to be out of class! Smiles, grins and laughing all around.
No matter how much awareness the police have about a mentally disturbed person – they have no way to act until a crime has been committed – so what do expect them to do?

    1. Like I told Pete many are seniors and voting will be in their future soon……I still like the one student that walked out in South Carolina I believe and did so for 17 minutes and went back n to be suspended….there is some courage in all of this……chuq

  3. Many will get suspended and have to explain the reasons to their college when they apply and it will brand them immediately as troublemakers and they will be on somebody’s watch list …Some will probably get themselves arrested and will carry that on their record for the rest of their lives and for what? These demonstrations will …. in the end game …. be no more effective than were the “Occupy Wall Street” demonstrations of a few years ago. We all know the good those demonstrations on wall street did, don’t we? None at all!

    1. Not to worry by the time they can go to college they will have been priced out of the experience. Glad to see that the kids of cowards have shown they have a spine….chuq

      1. And the immigrants that the Liberals love so much will get every cent of their college tuition paid for free by the government. I know of some Islamic nurses that got their degrees that way. They worked in the nursing home where our Mother was. The government sure isn’t going to pay for any free college for American Students. You are 100% correct when you say they will have been priced out of the experience. No doubt! I agree with you 100% on that one!

      2. I have not seen any proof of these accusations except on hate sites….so these nurse that you despise were they immigrants or just Americans of a different religion. Sure they will as long as the kid plays some moronic sport then most of it is free regardless of citizenship status

      3. They came here from overseas and the definition of “Hate” sites depends entirely on somebody’s viewpoint and opinion. Naturally Liberals tend to despise sites with a Conservative outlook and vice versa. That is natural. They come over here and the first thing they get is government assistance for this and that and everything else … assistance that the ordinary American has no chance of ever receiving under any circumstances… It is common knowledge among people who do not run around with their heads in the sand.

      4. Yes it does like the characterizations of liberals as some sort of sub-human or that people who disagree have their heads in the sand.

      5. Will you accept the figures given by the Office of Refugee Resettlement as factual? —CHART: More Than 90% Of Recent Middle Eastern Refugees On Food Stamps, Almost 70% On Cash Welfare — You can get it from Office of Refugee Resettlement, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families Office of Refugee Resettlement June 11, 2015.

      6. John,

        1) You’re right about Occupy Wall Street. They achieved nothing. Well…other than making it acceptable to talk in public about the financial industry and corporate America. I suppose that’s a “victory” of sorts. Personally, I’m waiting for the “Kill Every Motherfucker On Wall Street.” movement. That might not achieve much either, but it will be more entertaining.

        2) This Lefty says it’s perfectly logical that most of these Syrian refugees will -at least start their American experience- on food stamps.

        1) They’re probably starving. So food is probably the top priority.
        2) Who the fuck is going to hire a Syrian? Not only can few speak the language, most Americans assume they’re terrorists.

Now, where will they be 10+ years from now? If as expected, America’s Global War on the globe continues…most of them will be where they are now. If MISC Industries somehow drops the ball and loses their cash cow…maybe these refugees might get somewhere.
