Winning A War–One Movie At A Time

Once again Afghanistan will become “popular”….remember after the movie about the SEAL, “Alone” and people were talking about the war in Afghanistan…well there is yet another movie about the early days of the war in 2001…..

“12 Strong” is set in the harrowing days following 9/11 when a U.S. Special Forces team, led by their new Captain, Mitch Nelson (Hemsworth), is chosen to be the first U.S. troops sent into Afghanistan for an extremely dangerous mission. There, in the rugged mountains, they must convince Northern Alliance General Dostum (Negahban) to join forces with them to fight their common adversary: the Taliban and their Al Qaeda allies. In addition to overcoming mutual distrust and a vast cultural divide, the Americans—accustomed to state-of-the-art warfare—must adopt the rudimentary tactics of the Afghani (sic) horse soldiers. But despite their uneasy bond, the new allies face overwhelming odds: outnumbered and outgunned by a ruthless enemy that does not take prisoners.

The US, according to Hollywood, is winning the war…..which is so bogus and not even entertaining, unless you are a wannabe that sits on a couch and plays Warcraft……personally I am sick of these silly chunks of bullshit…..

The Hollywood Reporter published a surprising story earlier this month about film studios turning away from movies about sex. A biopic about Hugh Hefner is stalled, gone for the moment is a James Franco film about a 15-year-old Russian prostitute, and a remake of “A Star Is Born” is being re-thought, too.

“As Hollywood begins to navigate the #MeToo landscape,” Tatiana Siegel reported, “one of the first casualties appears to be big-screen erotica. In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, studios are steering clear of sex.” Alyssa Rosenberg, writing in the Washington Post, hopes that Hollywood’s embarrassed executives are navigating “the end of a very narrow way of thinking about what’s alluring.” Instead of movies that objectify women, she suggests more films that portray sex and sexuality in intelligent ways.

The good guys win and the bad guys go slinking off with their tails between their legs…..sorry people but that is a true fantasy and should be sold as a film of fantasy…..

I am weary of all the macho crap that Hollywood feeds to help the M-IC keep a willing reserve of stupid.  Time to stop glorifying war…there is Nothing glorious about the  obscenity of war…

  1. What happened to the US war films that started to show the reality of war? So many good ones came out, many featuring Vietnam, then on to the Gulf War and Afghanistan. Making these ‘Seals won the war’ films is a retrograde step, and only fools will be convinced it really happened.
    Best wishes, Pete.
