Can It Be Ignored?

Another Saturday and another day of mental purges…..I take the weekends to stay away from news of any sorts as a way to clear the mind for the coming week…..I admit that it is harder to do than one may consider especially if you are a wonk like myself and feel the need to stay abreast of current events.

I gotta get a little history in… in 1913 the 16th amendment became law….allowing an income tax…..

I have considered in the past, especially after the election of Trump, to push away from all news for an extended time….and I considered the consequences of such a move and chose to put it out of my head.

Then I read an article by someone who tried to go a week with the silliness of the MSM…..his experience is list in this article…..

My point: I wanted to see what I could learn about the modern news media by looking at how thoroughly Mr. Trump had subsumed it. In one way, my experiment failed: I could find almost no Trump-free part of the press.

It is inescapable!

Go now and enjoy your day….be well, be safe…..chuq

  1. That was an interesting article. I mentioned to my wife this week that almost every news item is related to Trump, even in the most tenuous way possible.
BBC reports from Mosul and Syria are generally excellent, often with harrowing coverage. But when they go ‘back to the studio’, Trump gets a mention because he may (or may not) put more ‘boots on the ground’.
Local news TV shows are popular here. Where I live is a large part of the UK that has a mainly rural economy, based on huge farms and livestock. We also have a massive industry of wind-farming based around the extensive coastline, as well as gigantic solar panel ‘farms’ popping up all over. You might wonder how they can relate these local issues to Trump, but they do manage to. After the report finished, the presenter discussed US attitudes to alternative energy sources, and how Trump’s stance on these might affect the industry in this part of rural England.
The man is everywhere, inescapable indeed.
I have to take my hat off to him. I have a sneaky feeling that in this respect, he knows exactly what he is doing.
    Best wishes, Pete.

    1. He is slow motion train wreck…..sad to say it is too humorous to turn away…but the funniest is to read what his worshipers have to say on his behalf…..chuq
