As my last post of the day….I will venture into the world of Formula One racing…..it is my guilty pleasure….I spend so much time researching and analyzing that I need something to break my days up….Formula One is just that time for me to sit back and enjoy.
This post will not have usual informative stuff…this one is a personal thing that I need to write about…..
From a very young age when I was living in Europe I became a fan of Formula One racing….especially Team Ferrari……those were the days when their were no sponsorship except for the company that built the car and NO multi-million dollar driver contracts……

The was 1960 and Ferrari was all the rage on the tracks….my driver of choice was Wolfgang von Trips….and no he had nothing to do with the “Sound Of Music”….he was an excellent driver and in 1961 he was in the lead in points for the World Championship with he was killed at the Italian Gran Prix at Monza…..while my driver was gone I never wavered from Team Ferrari and am still rooting for them……….

(this is when racing was racing and not some techno blood bath)
Now that brings us to this year…..Ferrari is playing second fiddle to Mercedes as it has for a couple of years and I have been beside myself….is it the car….or the driver…or the massive amount of technology…..maybe it is the constantly changes rules of the race…..anyway it is disconcerting to me…..but it will NEVER make me jump ship from Ferrari.
Now it brings me to yesterday’s race, 2016 Spanish Gran Prix……
The favorite to win the Gran Prix was Nico Rosberg who drives for Mercedes and next would be Hamilton who also drives for Mercedes…My guys for Ferrari were off their game this year so far…..
Now for the #GoingMercerdes……one the first lap the two Mercedes drivers tried to be cute and took each other out of the race completely…..giving the win to Red Bull and Ferrari finishes second and third……
Needless to say I was laughing my ass off and the rest of the race was good but just the fact that the ego idiots could not let their egos go they ruined the chance for Mercedes to have a sweep of the Gran Prixs which has NEVER been done in the history of the sport.
So I am trying to start a trend for now on when teammates screw the whole team because of egos it should go down as #GoingMercedes.
(Sorry I cannot provide shots of the wreck…..copyrights and all that shit)……but if you would like to read about the wreck…..

In case you are wondering…….I am still laughing my ass off……that was one of the most bone head moves I have ever since in all my years of Formula One….
Despite having 2 former World Champions hailing from Canuckistan (and an annual F-1 race much older than myself), Formula One has quietly become the least promoted sport in Canuckistan. I didn’t even know the season had started yet. I tried to record the Spanish Grand Prix yesterday…and the shitty equipment my shitty cable company bilks me for failed miserably!
One of the few sports I still watch is Formula One and it’s the ONLY sport I watch more of now than 15 years ago (primarily because it’s more competitive than when my viewing tapered off) I still don’t like the ads. Maybe it’s because everything is moving hundreds of KM/hr, but somehow I find most of them somewhat less intrusive than other sports….and the TV network I watch it on is virtually un-interrupted by commercials. That said…there’s a certain team/s that I generally won’t even name! (Hint: over-hyped sugar-water loaded with dangerous amounts of caffeine) I cheer for them to crash the same way I cheer for Michael Vick to get hit in the head & paralyzed.
I’ve always been a Ferrari fan. While the blood in my veins prevents me from cheering against anything German, I still wish I saw that wipe-out. That said, Mercedes is my #2. And #3 is anybody not driving for that “certain team” I refuse to promote. If they crash enough cars, maybe they’ll pull out of racing. Those things are really fucking expensive.
I was watching and the wipe out was epic! I smiled the whole race….the best driving was for 3rd and 4th…..I miss the days of car and driver….it is too damn techno these days and too commercialized…..
I admit that I really like the hybridization and the long overdue passing-power boost. Around the time my viewing tapered off, a major problem was that the car leading after the 1st corner won the race 80% of the time. The other 20% was due to (far too common) mechanical failure and “passing” while in the pits. Other than that, there was barely ANY passing going on, especially at the top of the list. And the shrinking of the starting grid only hurt the action. Excluding mechanical failures, the results were almost identical every week. Even a Senna in a 5% weaker car could only shuffle things up occasionally.
But you’re right. Formula One is too techno-based. I like me some REAL cars! When I was little twerp, cars still had clutches and drivers had to shift gears manually! Even the best drivers missed the odd gear, allowing a chance for something to happen as a result. Shit, not only do they not have to shift anymore, these spoiled pussies have everything spoon-fed to them by their on-board displays. They probably even have an espresso machine and a butt massager.
I miss the days where a Gilles Villeneuve could lead half a race with his front airfoil twisted up over his head. These cars are soooo fucking fragile now. It’s like they’re made out of balsa wood. Nowadays, if the driver farts too loud, he gets a message from the pits telling him race is over and is ordered to pull straight into the garage. Last season, I don’t think I saw a more involved repair than a 15 second front spoiler replacement. I don’t get it. Racing is so expensive. If I was running a team, I’d send my cars back out if they only had 3 wheels and were powered by using a T-shirt as a sail.
NASCAR I just cannot get into watching….go fast turn left…..not racing in my opinion…
