As per my tradition I will take the weekend off and spin out of control by posting on something unrelated to my interests of politics and international relations.
I love my cup of Joe! I particularly enjoy Jamaican Blue mountain…its earthy taste is just delightful and as usual I went for my monthly cup of the divine Joe and ran into an acquaintance and as usual we talked about a wide array of subjects….it seems that he had been watching the Science Channel and wanted to talk about alien life. His theory is that we have been visited and often…he went on to quote the whole damn show that he had ingested…..and then he asked….”what do you think?
That gave me my opening……I set about telling him that there most likely is intelligent life out there but they would NOT visit this planet. He was surprised. He said he thought of all the people he knew I would be the most likely to believe. First I thanked him for his props then I set about explaining my answer.
I said…think about it would yo visit the ‘ghetto’ in your neighborhood? And that is what the earth is….the galactic ghetto. He looked surprised and frustrated. I continued……let’s see we tolerate murder, abuse, do everything possible to kill the planet from pollution to over fishing to killing wildlife, we even dispose of life in dumpsters……what part of that is an illustration of intelligence?
And that brings this story to mind…….and illustrates the point…..
A baby boy is reportedly in good condition after he was found, cold, wet, and purple-faced in a Houston apartment building’s trash. Maintenance worker Carlos Michel discovered the newborn after hearing sounds coming from a blue Dumpster yesterday morning, the Houston Chronicle reports. “I almost had a heart attack,” he says. He stepped on a bucket and looked over the trash bags; the baby was in one, upside down alongside homework and leftover food, Fox News reports. “He was cold. Maybe hours old,” Michel says, per MyFox Houston. Michel wrapped the boy in his shirt and warmed him in a pickup truck; the child never opened his eyes before paramedics rushed him to the hospital, Michel says. Child Protective Services will take custody of the baby, born to a 16-year-old girl who acknowledged putting him in the Dumpster, though details haven’t been released. She was also hospitalized. Texas, notes the Chronicle, has a “Moses law” that allows parents to surrender newborns without fear of repercussions. It’s not yet clear whether the mother will face charges.
Our meeting ended with my acquaintance throwing his arms up, shaking his head and walking off muttering to myself…all that said…I stand by my assumption…..why visit the ‘ghetto’ of the universe?
