More anal statements coming from our “trusted” news media.
I am an aging hippie (at least that is what I have been labelled with in the past)…..I remember the embarrassment that FOX’s Geraldo Rivera has heaped on himself…..first, it was he was hit in the face by a neo-Nazi with a chair that broke his nose and then there was his famous Capone vault debacle that was nothing short of amazingly hilarious when the the big deal was opened and there was not even rat crap in it……but he strikes again!
We all have heard the reports of this teen in Florida, Trayvon Martin, that was killed by a man while walking home from a store……some blame the man, others blame the teen but good old Geraldo has his idea and that idea is moronic….and being moronic lets him enter into the world of anal-ocities……
In his show he made this statement…..
Rivera: I believe that George Zimmerman, the overzealous neighborhood watch captain, should be investigated to the fullest extent of the law and if he is criminally liable, he should be prosecuted. But I am urging the parents of black and Latino youngsters particularly to not let their children go out wearing hoodies. I think the hoodie is as much responsible for Trayvon Martin’s death as George Zimmerman was.
So, according to Geraldo a fashion choice is to blame for a death and NOT the asshole with a 9mm!
I guess that means we can blame a women’s fashion choice of a mini skirt or short shorts for her rape…
the gun did not kill the teen…..Zimmerman did not kill the teen……it was the teen’s fashion choice that is to blame.
He’s comments are indeed over the line but it is probably safe to say that the “hoodie”, in the eyes of some, is symbolic, rightly or not, of gang members and thus prone to create an over reaction that could be carried too far, as it did with Zimmerman.
This isn’t to say that anyone shouldn’t wear a certain article of clothing or that people shouldn’t be held accountable for their biased perception of things, but the sociological ramifications similar to what happened in Sanford, Fla. are very real under the right conditions.
A symbol, I agree…kinda like in the 60’s with long hair you were a hippie…..and of course the 19 other states with similar laws helps that equation also…..
Heh… does that mean Geraldo is a gang member? There are pictures of him wearing one. Would I have been justified killing him then? Somehow, I doubt it.

I have thought Geraldo was a joke from the early days……I blame the media for the making of such feelings like the clothing thing….
