Think about this…if you made a statement in a legal situation can you go back and tell them to strike it from the record, as so you do not look like a lying moron? It seems you can if you are in the US Congress….
Sen. Kyl had his lie expunged from the Congressional record…the one where he said that Planned Parenthood’s business is 90% abortion….once it was shown that it was a LIE…he and hius staff had it stricken from the official record…..
And now another congressperson is having something he said taken out of the record…….
Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks told The Birmingham News. “People could quite clearly infer that socialism is what the other guys are promoting,” he said, referring to Democrats.Speaking against a budget proposal from Democrats on Friday, Brooks charged that the United States is at “risk of insolvency and bankruptcy because the socialist members of this body choose to spend money that we do not have.”
This is not the first time a House member from Alabama has suggested that his colleagues on the other side of the aisle are socialists. In 2009, Rep. Spencer Bachus said he had identified 17 House Democrats who were socialists.
Brooks didn’t say who — or how many members — in the House would fall under the socialist label.
Later Friday, Brooks made another floor speech in which he took aim at socialism. “Let’s talk about socialism for a moment. It’s greater and greater government micromanaging of our lives. It’s higher taxes to pay for it,” he said, sharing his view of where Democrats stand on federal spending.
We-ell… Yes, I agree with the violations you are complaining about and you’re quite right, of course, but why do you object to the “socialist” label so much?
It may of course mean something different in the US, but (taking the definition of the word fairly loosely) isn’t that what the left is about? Isn’t it basically socialist in nature? It’s not anything like UK socialism, I agree, but the broad principles apply, surely?
In my opinion, YOU are, in many ways, a socialist. You believe in a degree of social engineering, surely? What’s wrong with that? I utterly disagree with your stance on some such issues, but I respect your opinion and ideas. Why the problem with the label? Unless I’m simply misunderstanding it all, of course (quite possible).
I’m not saying the other lot are any better, because they clearly aren’t, but socialism, by its very nature, DOES ALWAYS spawn interfering big government run by a huge bureaucratic machine and, in my opinion and desirable as it may be in theory, it flies in the face of reality and predictable human behaviour, which are the things about it with which I totally disagree.

I object because NOTHING that they (the righties) complain about is actually socialism…..I will NOT disagree with you…yep…I could be called a socialist….but what I believe looks nothing like what the Dems are spewing….this brand of “democracy” spawns the huge bureaucracy…I think we could do all that I propose with a much smaller one…..just saying!
You could well be right there and it IS the democracy that creates the bureaucracy. Nevertheless, in my experience (in the UK at least) socialism (real socialism) does occur every few years and the bureacracy ALWAYS expands exponentially.
If only the services and/or their quality did the same then I might argue less, but just about ALL the extra money (TAXPAYERS’ money – MY money!) goes to pay the pen-pushers. Sad I know, but unfortunately true because OUR socialists believe that “the state” is central to everything and should rule absolutely. Ugh!
