2010/2012 Election Series
There has been a wealth of crazies in the upcoming elections….from a candidate that wants to barter with doctors using chickens to ones that hold signs that read “Grow A brain, Moran” to the hate for a sitting Prez to some that ….well I could go on but it would most likely bore the crap out of you…let us just say the Tea Party Movement.
Some are saying that the TP will be a driving force in the next elections….most of the ones saying this are TP supporters….but beyond that they are making a stand with the people of the country.
Rand Paul may not be a crazy but he is a Libertarian and his waffling on civil rights and calling President Obama “un-American” for keeping pressure on BP is stark evidence the Tea Party faces an uphill battle in the election cycle to come.
And then there is a real crazy, Republican leaders have declared open war on Tim D’Annunzio, a Tea Party-backed North Carolina congressional candidate who they fear may be insane. They’re publicizing documents from D’Annunzio’s divorce, in which his wife testifies that he called himself the messiah, predicted God would drop a 1,000-mile high pyramid on Greenland, and claimed to have found the Ark of the Covenant in Arizona. A doctor also revealed that he smokes pot almost every day.
Yes, there is a candidate that believes that the barter system can be brought back to help reform our health care system…her idea was to use chickens as money.
I hate to be a downer here but it appears that if one has a crazy idea of what government should do then the TP is the place to be, for you can have a shot at fame. I mean come on! In the past elderly TPers want the government out of health care but use Medicare or bitch about perceived gun control and then bitch about the ease at which “terrorists” can get a gun in this country, they want the government to do something. They do not want the government in control of their lives, but when something happens they want to know why the government is not doing more.
Sorry to pee on your parade but the Tea Party is NOTHING new…..Americans go through this type of frustration on a regular basis…they just change the name of the tune….
The TP is all so much crap! I understand anger….but this is NOT the answer…..it is just insanity disguised as a political movement.
May I suggest that if the TP wants to be a serious player in the world of politics they need to be more discriminating in their choices for support…..playing off the anger of the American people may not be the best way to qualify yourself as a major player.
It seems clear to me that people like Rand Paul, if as you state he is a Libertarian, has totally misunderstood what even the basics of Libertarianism are all about.
Libertarianism (and I personally only agree with its basic principles) is all about minimal government – NOT no f*cking government at all – that’s Anarchy and an entirely different belief!
If he were to argue that existing legislation should mostly be thrown out and replaced by new, small, simple and straightforward rules and regulations and that personal (including ALL corporations as “individuals” as I believe the Supreme Court recently ruled!) responsibility for one’s own actions and welfare should be encouraged and even insisted upon and state assistance should be no more than a “final last resort”, then I would probably agree with him and call it Libertarianism.
However, the PRESIDENT’S job is to do whatever it takes to protect the country and its people as a whole and Senator’s jobs are to do the same for their area of responsibility – within the EXISTING law as it stands, not as Rand Paul (and to a lesser extent I) wish it had been framed. THAT is an entirely different argument.
If Rand Paul’s idea of government is that the President should stand back and do f*ck all whilst the country gets shafted just because it suits him then I don’t see why you’d need a president at all and all I can say is thank God he’s unlikely to ever be President and (personally) thank God too that I’m not an American!
I am with you about Libertarians, but I am more of a Left Libertarian and Rand Paul is a dud…he crapped in his chili on 3 occasions and few in the mainstream (whatever that means) will pay attention to his ‘good’ proposals because they will think he is a moron….sad, I know…..
More huge T/storms are approaching I will be waiting them out…before getting on line…..
