Random Thoughts

More notes than posts….a few notes that I took and did not attempt a post with them.  Sopme the thoughts are more disturbing than others…but I include them anyway.

1–When John Edwards got a $400 haircut the right was all over it with both feet, but now the report is that a haircut that was given to Gov. Sanford of South Carolina had a total cost of over $1000.  I am listening for the GOP outrage….all quiet on the political front.

2–The CEO of United Health Group makes in the neighborhood of $102,00 an hour.  Once again….$102,000 an hour.

3–What is the point of bite size burgers?

4–the people being the most vocal at townhalls are the people who most likely get government health care…the elderly.

5–Why do governments, state, local and fed, destroy drug hauls?  Why not make it a law that it has to be bought by drug companies for the making of drugs?  Gee, think of the cash they would make.

6–Back in 1990, Pres. Bush 1 visited my area and was escorted down a highway.  I was driving in my truck with a pellet rifle in a rack and was pulled over and detained until the pres went by.  And yet some moron with his extension of his manhood, a Glock was across the street from a presidential meeting holding a sign that said  “the tree of liberty should be watered with the blood of tyrants”.  And he was allowed in public and not detained….in his defense he had a license for his gun and I did not have one for my pellet gun…..and maybe it was because I had a bumper sticker that read, “help beautify America…shoot a redneck”.  It is said that this guy left before the pres arrived…maybe that is what saved him from detention.

7–I have heard that 85% of the population are pleased with their health care provider and then I have heard that there is 46 million people that are uninsured…which is it?  Is there some sort of disconnect here?  I did a little research and they are the same basic stat just it is viewed from a different perspective.

8–Would we be having this much debate on health care if there had already been reform on the amount of money that corporations give to candidates?  I mean if these guys were not being paid by the health industry would they be so dead set against reform?

9–Did MSNBC’s Hardall’s Chris Matthews get time off for chastizing the gun toting protester in New Hampshire.,..after all he did say. “you were carrying a goddamn gun……”?  Bad Chris!

Keynesian Economics

Professor’s Classroom

Subject: Economics/History

I recall that during the primaries and then the general election there were those that said that Obama was practicing Keynesian economics and those people tried to equate that with socialism.  Obama is NO Socialist!

To explain why I say this we need to step into the “Way Back” machine.

It is now the 1930’s and the world is in the grasp of a Great Depression.  John Mayard Keynes is a Brit economist and until he wrote “The General Theory Of Employment, Interest and Money” the only economics that meant anything was the economics of the price theory….oh my bad….microeceonomics.  We can safely say the Keynes was the father of macroeconomics which, simply put, deals with aggregates like GNP.  And also thanks to Keynes we have the economic indicators that all investors live and die on, like employment, production, etc.

Now with that out of the way, So to call Keynes a socialist is pure delusion.  He was NO socialist, his concern was to make capitalism more responsive to the people.  To make it more efficient and to perform more humanely.

Using the information above then if Obama is a Keynesian and Keynes was not a socialist, then Obama is not a socialist.  That is a logical rebut to the accusations flying from the radical right.

I hope that these types of posts will help the people to kill the misinformation that is readily available.

On a side note:  one is not a socialist if they are a nazi, that would make them a facist…the opposite end of the political spectrum.  To the Radical Right I say either you want him to be a socialis or a facist, he cannot be both, so for God’s sake pick one and stick with it.  You dipsticks remind me of Senator Johnny in the original movie, the Manchurian Candidate, it seems he saw commies everywhere in Washington, but he could not find the number it was always changing…kinda like you guys.

A City’s Cost Cutting

Article for Gulf South Free Press:

The city in Mississippi, south Mississippi, has a new mayor and one of his first big deals is to eliminate unneeded cost from the city budget.  A lofty endeavor, indeed.

The word going around the city is that the new mayor will cut $3+ million from the city budget by eliminating 22 positions.  Sounds good right?  It will be a considerable savings for the city.

Okay here is something to think about…..the city of Gulfport according to the 2006 census has a population of 64, 316 people.  right, it is not a large city, but a growing one.

Now my question is what 22 positions will be eliminated and how in the hell did these people earn an average of $136,000 each?  What is the mayor’s salary?  If there are that many people earn that kind of money, then no wonder the city is always in financial chaos.

Now I ask how long has this been going on….how long have the citizens been paying outrageous salaries for little or no work completed?

Maybe the promisesd of the mayor during his campaign about working for the people of the city may be true…personally I think not…but give him the benefit of the doubt….at least he is not accused of defrauding the government….that is something.
