Should We Go Or Should We Stay?

First of all, I would like to thank the Clash for the title.

Now a memo circulating around Washington from an US Adviser says that it is time of the US to pack up and go home. I have heard all the rhetoric from the pundits that say the Right will blame Obama for any problems that Iraq may have if we leave. Their argument will be that Bush took out a dictator and made the Middle East a bit more secure and tyhen if there are major problems then Obama’s decision was wrong and we will be less safe.

That is all well and good and makes for typical political posturing but a poll shows something different on Main Street;

A new AP-GfK poll released today shows a majority of Americans opposed to the wars in both Afghanistan and Iraq. The numbers also reveal growing concern that the president will be able to meet his goals, particularly in Iraq.

The Iraq War was opposed 63-34, while the slightly more popular Afghan War was opposed 53-44. Both numbers split strongly along party lines, with roughly two thirds of Republican supporting each war. Only 10 percent of Democrats support the Iraq War while only 26 support the Afghan War, which has been the foreign policy centerpiece for the Obama Administration.

So any BS thrown out by Repubs is just that BS…the American people are getting weary of the wars and the deployments and mostly the American deaths that seem to be rising in out pursuit of Osama. Will it translate into political capital?…..doubtful.

This trend will continue…as long as the US is still fighting and not accomplishing the perceived goal of catching or killing Osama, then the wear will continue to grow in disfavor from the American people.
