Another “You Can’t Fix Stupid”

Sunday in the garden…..the weather has finally gotten cooler and stays there…..I have eaten the last of the tomatoes from the garden….what to do?  What to do?  Time to write about an affliction that strikes every second or so….STUPIDITY!

I could write about the present day political system but that is too easy…..no I would like to write about individuals that have their heads firmly up their butts before they act.

I live in Mississippi and use to think that stupid was unique to my state…I was mistaken….but for instance….about 25 years ago we had a Summer Festival that had cook-offs, rides, music and a helicopter ride around the harbor and along the beach.

A local resident was hammered out of his mind and went of the chopper ride when he landed and the chopper was idling waiting for the next passenger this drunkard was so stoked that he was yelling and jumped up with his arms above his head…..you guessed it the chopper blades removed 3 fingers…..his reaction was “my fingers looked like little trumpets”……you guessed it again….the chopper ride was eliminated for the next festival.

Reminder to self: When setting up booby traps in your home, make sure you don’t accidentally set them off yourself. One North Carolina man failed to heed that advice and ended up getting shot Monday morning, the Gaston Gazette reports. Police say Edwin Smith, 68, had rigged a shotgun facing his back door. After going outside to feed squirrels around 11:30am, he opened the door and the gun fired, hitting him in the right arm. It’s not clear whether he forgot about the booby trap or if the trap malfunctioned. Either way, “I’ve never seen anything quite like this,” a captain with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office says.

“I blew my arm off,” Smith can be heard saying in a 911 call obtained by WCNC. First responders, who went through the home carefully to make sure there were no other booby traps, found him severely wounded but alert, and he was transferred to a hospital in nearby Shelby. One of his neighbors says Smith “stood up for our neighborhood when drugs and bad people started moving in,” and WCNC also has a photo of a large sign on Smith’s property warning “crack heads, meth heads, heroin users, drug dealers,” “anyone doing criminal activity,” and “illegal aliens” to “stay the hell out & off this private road.” (A pot farmer was done in by his own booby trap.)

All I can say…..”You Can’t Fix Stupid”!

I gonna sit and watch the garden grow…..with silver bells, cockle shells and a bunch of damn weeds…LOL

There are just some things that go beyond the pail…….there is humor then there is stupidity.

I saw this story and the first thing that came to my mind was my fave saying…..”Can’t Fix Stupid”…….

If you’re scratching your head trying to figure out how making a mock ISIS execution video is positive in any way, much less a valuable team-building exercise, you and HSBC management are on the same page. The bank has fired six UK employees for doing just that after they reportedly shot the video, then uploaded it to Instagram (it’s since been deleted), reports the Guardian. HSBC reacted after the Sun published both the video and screenshots from it. “Once we saw this abhorrent video released @TheSun we took the decision to sack the individuals involved. We apologise for any offence,” the bank’s UK press office tweeted yesterday.

In the video, five men are shown wearing ski-mask-like balaclavas, while one man is dressed in an orange jumpsuit—much like those worn by Western hostages in the videos of their very-real executions at the hands of ISIS—and kneeling before them. One of the masked men holds what looks to be a coat hanger above their “prisoner” like a knife about to be used for a beheading, and someone says, “Allahu Akbar” and ululates before the group breaks out in laughter. A source tells the Sun: “It’s shocking they would think this is funny.

If these douche bags are some of our best and brightest…..then we are SOO screwed!

No Fool Like An Old Fool

Some much drama in the world….how about a little humor on a Friday?

How many times have you heard that old saying…..usually uttered after some story about some old fart that did something that some do not approve of….probably something they consider immoral or whatever……

Then there are times when the old saying does have some validity……and this is just such a situation…..

An 84-year-old New Yorker’s date with two 17-year-old twin sisters ended with the senior citizen tied up and robbed, according to police.

The New York Times reports that Paul Aronson met up with 17-year-old Shaina Foster last month through SeekingArrangement.com, a sugar daddy site that bills itself as a place “where beautiful, successful people fuel mutually beneficial relationships,” according to the Times.

After a first date, Shaina brought her twin sister Shalaine along to the second. The trio dined at an “expensive restaurant” and then Aronson invited them back to his apartment for a drink, court documents said.

That’s when Shaina told authorities things got out of hand.

“He asked to do things I wasn’t going to do,” she told Detective Darryl Ng. “He is ugly, old and disgusting. I tied him up. I took his money and left. He was starting to creep me out.”

The reason I re-tell that story is because of a report I read along those lines……

The finding “supports the hypothesis that men are idiots and idiots do stupid things,” the study’s four male authors write, explaining that men are more likely to take idiotic risks, sometimes when drunk or showing off—or often both, as in the case of three Cambodian men who played a form of Russian roulette by taking turns to stamp on a landmine until it exploded, killing all three of them. One author explains that “idiotic risks are defined as senseless risks, where the apparent payoff is negligible or non existent, and the outcome is often extremely negative and often final,” the Telegraph reports. The authors say they plan to further explore “male idiot theory” in “a semi-naturalistic Christmas party setting.”

Let’s be honest….we men can do and say some incredibly stupid stuff……and my fave “what were you thinking moment” was when a terrorist sent a later bomb….it was returned for lack of sufficient postage and the would be bomber open the letter and killed himself…..DON’T GET TOO MUCH STUPIDER THAN THAT!

Is Stupid Contagious?

You know for the longest time I thought we could contribute the stupidity of the public to over exposure to FOX News, Alex Jones, Glen Beck, Reality TV other such sources…..I never considered that it could be a virus….a stupidity virus?……NO!  I am not joking or making light……there is a for real Stupid virus!.

US researchers have come across a virus that may make us stupider—and it’s turning up in the throats of otherwise-healthy people, the Independent reports. Some 43% of 92 people in a study were found to have the virus. Those affected scored about 10% lower on tests involving visual processing, Science reports; for instance, it took them comparatively longer to draw a line through a numerical sequence on a page. Their attention spans also appeared to be shorter. “There’s more and more studies showing that microorganisms in your body have a bigger influence than anything anyone would have predicted, and this could be something along those lines,” says a researcher.

Known as chlorovirus ATCV-1, the virus typically affects freshwater algae, Healthline reports. Mice infected with the virus subsequently suffered declining scores on similar cognitive tests. The virus, researchers found, managed to cross the blood-brain barrier and take a toll on genes in the mice’s brains. A few things to note, however: More research is needed to see if the virus exists in people outside the Baltimore study area, and even if it is, an outside expert says its effect seems minimal: “If you ask me if I am worried about the existence of this virus, I am not.”

Personally, I believe it is more serious than the researchers say……just watch the news, any news, stupid is approaching a pandemic …….

There Is Ignorant Then There Is Stupid

One of my fave quotes is….”Stupidity Is The Deliberate Cultivation Of Ignorance”……and it is proved every damn day.

In the country right now there is a debate, if you will, on the possibility of raising the minimum wage to a level that would allow people to exist without having to ask for help from the government.  lots of yeas and nays…..some states have taking it on themselves to for go the mindless debate and raise the wages for people within their borders.  Minnesota is one of these states that has done the right thing….and one guy decided to make a political statement in opposition to the raise……

But first let me tell you something about the restaurant business…..the success of an established cafe or bistro is the clientele…..without their patronage you gots NOTHING!  So anytime you change things it needs to be done without much hoopla that way your public will continue to visit eat and spend their hard earned money…..

With that said an operator of a cafe in Minnesota was so pissed about having to pay a higher minimum wage that he took it out on his customers…….

A new “minimum wage fee” tacked on to receipts at a Minnesota restaurant is proving hard for customers to stomach.

Facebook users are bombarding Oasis Café, an eatery in Stillwater, Minnesota, with negative reviews, many vowing to never eat there again, after the owners began adding a 35-cent surcharge below the tax on bills this week.

“If you need to raise prices, so be it,” Ryan Stegeman, a University of Minnesota student, wrote in a one-star review hidden by the administrator of the Oasis Café Facebook page. “But to blame it on a fair minimum wage law is petty.”

This guy is an idiot!  Because he wanted to be a smart ass he may well have killed his business.  Social media will make the Oasis cafe the place NOT to be seen.  Stupid is destroying your livelihood to make a petty political statement is the height of STUPIDITY!  If you want to cover the extra cost then figure it into the dish and let the patrons know what is being done and why…….but this….A FLAMING MORON!

God, I Love Stupid!

We hear daily of stupid things that people do……..and it is especially humorous when it bites them in the butt…..

(Newser) – Put this on your “don’t-do” list: A Texas woman set a snake on fire in her backyard—and then watched as her house burned to the ground, Yahoo! News reports. “While cleaning up, she saw a snake, threw gasoline on the snake, lit the snake on fire,” said a Bowie County sheriff’s deputy. “The snake went into the brush pile, and the brush pile caught the home on fire.”

The deputy described her recently purchased brick house as a loss, and said the house next door—which she also owns—was 20% damaged, reports CNN. A local fire official said such incidents aren’t as rare as you might imagine: “Yes, it could happen with rabbits and big field mice,” he told Yahoo. “They have been known to catch fire and then take off.” Just why did this woman take such drastic measures? “She just didn’t like snakes, I guess,” he said.

Some days it is just worth reading the news…….

You Really Cannot Fix Stupid!

The title of this post comes from comedian Ron White, “you can’t fix stupid”.

I seldom write about the state I live in or the people and when I do it is not too flattering….most times I think the people are really stupid or really uninformed…..but there are times that they even impress me with their lack of common sense…..like when the voters of Mississippi, my district that is, voted their congressman out of office even though he had A and A+ ratings by all the conserv groups like NRA, Pro-Life, middle class, senior groups…he was defeated because he was a Dem NO other reason….and the guy they replaced him with is an idiot…..so far his promise of jobs for Mississippi have been ignored and spent all his time with abortion, debt and just being a pain in the ass…..in other words…he is DONE nothing!

But this post is not about the political ignorance of the people but rather the lack of commonsense……as reported in the Sun-Herald……

Relatives of Dale Ray have identified him as the man seriously injured in an explosion Thursday on Saucier Lane.

Saucier said Ray was known for selling items to make money and could have been using a welding torch to cut live rounds for scrap metal. Ray had lived on the property at various times in a small camper, but Saucier said he didn’t know Ray had gone on the property Thursday.

About wait!  There is more to this story……..

He declined to discuss initial reports that Johnson was cutting on an anti-tank round when it exploded, or a relative’s belief Johnson planned to sell it for scrap.

“We are trying to find out exactly what happened and the only way to do that is to have an unbiased and thorough investigation,” Lee said.

Anti-tank rounds are high-powered ammo that can penetrate tanks and other armored vehicles. The explosive devices are not legally available for commercial or personal use.

Military-grade munitions are used in training at Camp Shelby. A spokesman there could not be reached for comment.

Let me see if I have the events in order.  Man sneaks onto a military base to scavenge for brass and other things that can be sold for extra cash….man finds unexploded ordinance and takes it back to the house and uses a torch on an unexploded shell filled with gunpowder….is that about it?
Military people that I know that train at Camp Shelby say they are always having to run scavengers away from their firing ranges….looks like they may have found their poster child for the campaign…..
In what world does unexploded ordinance seem safe to use a blow torch on?  My grandfather always said, “if you are going to be stupid, you got to be strong”.
I am sorry to be callous but I would pay good money to watch him do it again…..like the sign says over my desk….”YOU CANNOT FIX STUPID”!

The Dumbing Down Of America

I have been bitching for years about the population in the US….that they were getting dumber and lazier with every new generation….I have pointed to the popularity of reality shows as an indicator of the dumbness part and then to gadgets like the Salad Shooter, or the egg cracker and the battery powered whisk……and as much as I have bitched….I want to believe that it is just NOT so……but…….

The Repubs have been accused as part of the dumbing down process because of their education stands,,,,,this from Truth Out……

The Republican Party, particularly the rabid Tea Party-influenced majority in the House, is embarked on a juggernaut to take the public out of everything it can in American life, including libraries, elementary and high schools, government workers, environmental protection, even parks and parking meters.The combination of privatizing public services, and thus making them less affordable to the vast majority of Americans, and lowering the wage scale for workers fortunate to have a job is making this a two-class nation.

As much as the GOP and the TP are seemingly attacking education…..the population is not helping either…..why?

I sometimes envisage the television set silently and invisibly sucking brain cells and synapses out of my brain the minute I switch it on. I imagine that the longer I watch, the more of my brain matter is methodically extracted. I guess this is just a fantasy, but I really do believe it does indeed make you stupid.

Ways TV Makes You Dumber

  • TV puts you in a mild trance-like state where your brain shuts down and is left unchallenged (I’m pretty sure there have been studies that have shown that TV does have a hypnotic affect on the brain)
  • It rewards you for doing nothing, sort of like a drug, and that can’t be good for you
  • It’s a passive activity, non-interactive, so watching TV is something that is being done to you, not with you, again leaving you completely unchallenged.
  • TV usually panders to the lowest common intellectuall denominator
  • It efficiently and all-too-often takes the place of activities that could potentially expand our intelligence, such as conversing, reading, or project undertakings
  • Television is intimately tied to advertising and consumerism, so the goal of most programs is to promote capitalism (through commercials and actual program content), and not to represent reality. TV often distorts reality and manipulates meanings in a way that benefits advertisers. Since we have a tendency to believe what we see on TV, our minds are susceptible to being influenced in a way that benefits advertisers and promotes the goals of consumerism, which is often at odds with intelligence.
  • TV pushes upon us the erroneous mindset that if we only buy a certain product or service, we’ll be happy. Furthermore, and even more damaging is that this implies that if we are not currently satisfied or happy, then there must be something wrong with us. This is a horrible state of affairs, because as the Buddha so elegantly put it, life is suffering. There is no escape from suffering, and the sooner we accept this, the better off we’ll be. I remember this one commercial I saw for an over-the-counter pain reliever that claimed to be “one more step to a pain-free life”, implying that life is supposed to be pain-free!

In George Leonard’s book Mastery, Leonard explains that TV shapes our thinking in a way that makes us believe that the outcome is more important than the process, that everything can be achieved, resolved or wrapped up within a specified and short period or time. Again, this is a bastardization of reality. Life simply does not work this way. Most things aren’t black and white. And most things that are worthwhile do not take a half hour or hour to achieve. He explains that both TV shows and commercials present viewers with an unrealistic rhythm of life where problems are encountered and then resolved by the end of the commercial or show, and that it is one climax after another. So watching TV distorts our perception of reality, which makes you less intelligently equipped to deal with the real world.

Our minds are further warped by constantly watching beautiful people enjoy wonderful lives, called the Beautiful People Syndrome by Ron Kaufman (http://www.turnoffyourtv.com/commentary/syndrome.html) Thus we tend to erroneously believe that our lives ought te be filled with goodness, perfect looks and perfect lives, and that if we don’t have this, then there is something wrong with us.

Here’s an interesting tidbit of info from http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=805412: Scientists did a calorimetric test to determine energy consumption while watching TV. What they found surprised them. They found that on average people watching TV consumed ten per cent less energy than normal resting energy consumption. That’s right, you actually consume more energy sitting there doing nothing than when you are watching TV. There is a simple explanation. It seems that this is due to the concentration people exert while watching TV reducing the amount of fidgeting and random movement people do. While fidgeting may be a major part of one’s resting energy use, thinking uses up energy, too. The neurons in the brain aren’t very good at holding their own energy for long, so glial cells in the brain constantly transfer energy to the brain cells, energy taken from the blood. So if you keep your body steady but try solving a differential equation, you’ll probably find yourself losing more energy than while sitting and doing nothing at all. Of-course, TV excites neurons in the primary visual areas, but perhaps that’s, on average, as far as it goes ;). We may lose less calories watching TV because we’re not using our brains to think, only to watch.

The population is getting dumber and dumber and they can point to politicians, but ultimately it is their inaction and their mindset that is the most destructive……when they find hunting alligators or dudes cutting down the last of the old growth forest or a bunch a rich self centered housewives less appealing then what is going on around them….then they will get to the point of an idiocracy!  It is fast approaching!

You Cannot Fix Stupid!

One of my fav quotes from comedian Ron White…..I do not normally post on things that I feel are stupid or not of necessary importance….but I just have to post on this…..after years of watching the same thing happen time after time….I am beginning to think that the American “sportsman” is a MORON!

Every year some person or group of idiotic dipsticks just has to climb Mt. Hood in the dead of winter and year after year they need to be rescued……and guess what?  This year is NO different!

Fears of an avalanche on Mount Hood forced rescuers to use a helicopter and airplanes in their search for two missing climbers on Sunday, a day after crews found the body of their climbing companion on a glacier on the mountain, Oregon’s highest.

The three climbers began their ascent on the west side of the mountain around 1 a.m. Friday and were due back in the afternoon. Crews found the body of Luke T. Gullberg, 26, of Des Moines, Wash., on Saturday, on the glacier at the 9,000-foot level.

Officials had not given up hope on Sunday that the climbers, who they said were experienced, could be found alive. Relatives of the climbers gathered at Timberline Lodge, a ski lodge on the flank of Mount Hood and a staging area for the rescuers, to await more news. They were being comforted by Dennis Simons, a nondenominational volunteer chaplain.

He said the expertise of the two missing climbers was giving their relatives hope. He also said that Ms. Nolan had made the summit of other Cascade Range peaks, and that the three had climbed together before. “They know how to survive in the snow,” Mr. Simons said.

Mount Hood has been the site of dozens of climbing accidents. The worst on record occurred in May 1986, when nine people — seven students from Oregon Episcopal School and two adults — died after they dug a snow cave during a sudden storm.

First of all, do any of these dorks know what a weather report is?  Second, do any of these “experts” know anything about conditions on mountains in winter?  Third, F*CK ’em if they are this stupid then there is NO saving them!

Just how experienced are the morons that climb the mountain knowing the death toll is high?  It is time to either make the mountain off-limits in winter or make the family responsible for the cost of the rescue mission…..it is that simple!  Apparently these “responsible” individuals care nothing of their own safety and really do not give a crap about anyone else…..Possible post a sign that says, “climb at your own risk”

It is time to STOP pretending that these a/holes are anything but self-centered pricks!  If they do not know how dangerous the mountain is then they should stay home and service the wife or husband as the case may be…if they do not care if they die….why should I?

Low Morals Caused Economic Crisis

I have been reading and writing about the economy and the problems and the solutions for a long time….recently I saw one of the dumbest things I have ever seen……Oklahoma state representative, Sally Kerns,  has found a new way to make the GOP look more stupid and less in touch than anyone before her.

The state representative has taken it upon herself to create an “Oklahoma Citizen’s Proclamation for Morality,” which essentially blames the nation’s sinners (you know, like the gays and divorcees) on the economic recession. Here’s a snippet of the document, which can be read in its entirety here:

WHEREAS, we believe our economic woes are consequences of our greater national moral crisis; andWHEREAS, this nation has become a world leader in promoting abortion, pornography, same sex marriage, sex trafficking, divorce, illegitimate births, child abuse, and many other forms of debauchery; and

WHEREAS, alarmed that the Government of the United States of America is forsaking the rich Christian heritage upon which this nation was built; and

WHEREAS, grieved that the Office of the president of these United States has refused to uphold the long held tradition of past presidents in giving recognition to our National Day of Prayer; and

WHEREAS, deeply disturbed that the Office of the president of these United States disregards the biblical admonitions to live clean and pure lives by proclaiming an entire month to an immoral behavior;

This woman has given a NEW meaning to the word religious zealot…..she has NOT done a service to her supporters.  We do not need representatives that have this type of thinking….this will NOT solve our problem with the economy.  This is a stupid person, by that I mean she is culivating ignorance.
