A Nuclear Tit For Tat

In a recent report the news has hit that Russia has a new nuclear toy and since all nuke talks have been suspended it is something to consider….this ‘new’ device would make a sneak attack very likely….

Russia has conducted a successful test of a new atomic-powered and nuclear-capable underwater drone, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday, declaring that the new weapon can’t be intercepted. Putin’s statement, which the AP reports comes three days after he praised a successful test of a new nuclear-powered cruise missile, appears to be another message to President Trump that Russia is standing firm in its maximalist demands on Ukraine. Speaking at a meeting with soldiers wounded in Ukraine, Putin said the Poseidon drone was tested while running on nuclear power for the first time on Tuesday, describing it as a “huge success.” Poseidon is unmatched in speed and depth, he said, and “there is no way to intercept it.”

He said the nuclear reactor that powers Poseidon is “100 times smaller” than those on submarines, and the power of its nuclear warhead is “significantly higher than that of our prospective Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile.” Putin first mentioned the underwater nuclear-powered drone in his 2018 state-of-the-nation address, along with other prospective weapons. Russian media reported that Poseidon was designed to explode near coastlines and unleash a powerful radioactive tsunami.

Putin said that during Tuesday’s test, Poseidon traveled on nuclear power for the first time. He didn’t say where the trials were conducted or give any other details. He also revealed new details about the Burevestnik cruise missile, saying its nuclear reactor is “1,000 times smaller” than one on a submarine. On Sunday, Russia’s chief military officer, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, reported to Putin that an Oct. 21 test of the Burevestnik was a complete success. The missile covered 8,680 miles during a 15-hour flight using nuclear fuel and conducted maneuvers “demonstrating its high capabilities in evading missile and air defense systems,” Gerasimov said.

With that news how will Uncle Donny respond?

How do you think?

President Trump on Wednesday announced he has ordered the Pentagon to “immediately” resume testing nuclear weapons, citing the need to keep pace with rival nations’ programs. The president made the announcement on Truth Social just before a highly watched meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, NBC News reports. “Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis,” he wrote. “That process will begin immediately.” The United States has not conducted a confirmed nuclear test since 1992, when a moratorium began under President George HW Bush. The US has the capability to restart tests at a federal site in Nevada. Trump’s move comes as he sharpens his public focus on US military strength.

He argued that resuming tests is about maintaining parity with other nations, declaring that the US has the largest arsenal, followed by Russia, then China—a country he claimed could catch up within five years. However, the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons lists Russia as having the most confirmed warheads, with the US a close second; together they hold about 90% of the world’s nuclear weapons. Trump declined to elaborate when pressed by reporters about the policy shift. Earlier in the week, he called denuclearization a key goal and criticized Russia’s recent tests of new nuclear-capable weapons, yet said he believed both Russia and China could eventually support arms reductions. The tests of Russia’s new cruise missile, which reportedy flew 8,700 miles, were condemned internationally, the Hill reports.

China, for its part, has rejected US appeals to cut stockpiles. The Washington Post calls Trump’s statement “an apparent attempt to flex the United States’ military might ahead of a high-stakes trade meeting.” The announcement drew immediate backlash from Democrats, especially in Nevada, where lawmakers vowed to fight any new tests. The state legislature recently passed a resolution urging the federal government to keep the moratorium in place.

Here we go again….a nuclear tit for tat with Russia and China.

The age old arms race has just got more scary and more disturbing.

A Disturbing Chinese Report

China has made it back into the conversation and the news….I guess Gaza is not that important now (but that is a mistake) and Donny has imposed more tariffs on China and the markets took a hit.

And of course China fired back at the imposition of more tariffs…..

Beijing has vowed countermeasures against Washington if US President Donald Trump makes good on his threat to impose new 100% tariffs on Chinese imports.

Trump’s latest threat came after China unleashed a raft of export restrictions on rare earth minerals last week. The escalating tensions threaten to derail months of progress in trade talks.

“Resorting to threats of high tariffs is not the right way to engage with China,” a Ministry of Commerce spokesperson said Sunday, in Beijing’s first comments on the threat.

“If the US persists in acting unilaterally, China will resolutely take corresponding measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests,” the spokesperson added. “Our position on a tariff war remains consistent – we do not want one, but we are not afraid of one.”

https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/12/business/china-warns-us-of-counter-actions-if-trump-doesnt-walk-back-his-100-tariff-threat

What does that rhetoric mean?

But for me there is more disturbing news than the economics of stupid…..you need to READ this article…..very disturbing.

Here’s a “Dr. Strangelove”-sounding idea: drop three consecutive nuclear missiles on the same target.

The Chinese military simulated this shock and awe scenario in a miniaturized lab experiment in order to see what kind of damage would happen, according to the South China Morning Post, and published their findings earlier this month in the science journal, Explosion and Shock Waves.

They found that striking a target with multiple nuclear munitions in rapid succession leaves a bigger crater and causes way more destruction than a single detonation — duh — but the scientists claim that the research is relevant because it’s the first laboratory test to accurately simulate the damage from such a brutal attack.

But the true value from this test is probably that the military could glean data from the paper to build better bunkers that could withstand such an apocalyptic situation — a matter that’s on everybody’s mind as China and the United States size up each other’s weapons arsenal amid rising geopolitical tension.

The scientists in the paper in particular singled out the power of American and Russian weaponry such as a “new generation of low-yield earth-penetrating [nuclear missile] warheads” as a cause for concern.

For the missiles strike test, the team of Chinese military scientists produced a large metallic vacuum chamber with heavy, thick walls but small enough to fit in a lab room. Inside the chamber, they used pressurized gas to pierce three glass spheres buried in quartz sand to simulate a rapid succession of nuclear explosions, while cameras captured every second of these blasts.

They ran calculations that referenced the US Palanquin test in 1965, which was held to identify the impact from a nuclear detonation; in that long-ago experiment held in Nevada, the explosion left a crater radius of 119 feet and a depth of around 69 feet.

When will these fuckers stop worrying about the bombs and do something useful for humanity?

Only Roaches Remain

After a week of tiresome political nonsense I thought I would take a different direction……

And now for something completely different…..

I am sure that you have heard the old meme that after a worldwide nuclear war the only things left alive were roaches and Keith Richards…..

Well that maybe partially accurate according to scientists…

In a world rife with uncertainties, the mere thought of a nuclear event sends chills down the spine. While no one ever hopes to witness such a catastrophe, nature has equipped certain creatures with remarkable resilience. From microscopic marvels to everyday insects, these organisms have adapted to withstand conditions that humans can scarcely imagine. In this fascinating exploration, we delve into the lives of 11 incredible creatures that could survive a nuclear blast, revealing their unique capabilities and the science behind their indestructibility.

Often referred to as “water bears,” tardigrades are microscopic creatures renowned for their incredible robustness. These tiny organisms can endure extreme temperatures, high radiation levels, and even the vacuum of space. Tardigrades achieve this through a process known as cryptobiosis, where they essentially desiccate their bodies, halting all metabolic processes. This state allows them to survive harsh environments, including the aftermath of a nuclear explosion.

Cockroaches have long been infamous for their association with post-apocalyptic survival. While not entirely invincible, these resilient insects can withstand significantly higher levels of radiation than humans. Their rapid reproductive cycle and ability to thrive on minimal resources make them likely contenders for nuclear survival. Cockroaches’ simple bodily structure contributes to their hardiness, allowing them to recover quickly from radiation damage.

11 Creatures That Can Survive a Nuclear Blast

And of course Keith Richards.

If you were lucky enough to find shelter these are what you would have to deal with once you re-entered the world…..creepy crawlies….

That does it for this week…..I hope everyone has a wonderful late Summer weekend.

Little Donny Has A Dream

Donny has this fake dream of making America Great by a security blanket he is calling the “Golden Dome”.

It sounds good for the media and especially those babbling idiots that support him in all things….but is it really all that?

Golden Dome is a golden idol, a false god, one that by making a massive nuclear strike more likely endangers all of us and God’s creation.

Golden Dome is a grotesque example of makework militarism and warfare as welfare for weapons makers. Though it’s unlikely to work, if it did (partially) it would make a massive nuclear strike more likely, not less, endangering the world with the ecocidal terror of nuclear winter.

Golden Dome and the so-called investment in America’s nuclear triad are both examples of socio-technological madness – America’s leaders are like the mutants in “Beneath the Planet of the Apes,” worshipping the bombs that twisted them and which can only destroy what’s left of civilization.

https://original.antiwar.com/William_Astore/2025/06/10/golden-dome-idiocy/

Trump’s goals for Golden Dome are likely beyond reach. A wide range of studies makes clear that even defenses far more limited than what Trump envisions would be far more expensive and less effective than Trump expects, especially against enemy missiles equipped with modern countermeasures. Countermeasures include multiple warheads per missile, decoy warheads and warheads that can maneuver or are difficult to track, among others.

Experience going back half a century makes clear that if the administration pursues Golden Dome, it is likely to provoke even larger arms buildups, derail already-dim prospects for any negotiated nuclear arms restraint, and perhaps even increase the chances of nuclear war.

Most countries are likely to oppose the idea of deploying huge numbers of weapons in space – and these interceptors would be both expensive and vulnerable. China and Russia could focus on further developing anti-satellite weapons to blow a hole in the defense, increasing the risk of space war.

https://theconversation.com/golden-dome-dangers-an-arms-control-expert-explains-how-trumps-missile-defense-threatens-to-make-the-us-less-safe-258048

Trump wants to go much further, with a defense “forever ending the missile threat to the American homeland,” with a success rate “very close to 100%.” I believe that this effort is highly likely to lead to still larger nuclear buildups in Russia and China.

This is just an extension of Reagan’s Star Wars dream…..and it was a pipe dream that was abandoned in good sense.

This will be yet another waste of time and cash as is most of Donny’s ‘major’ programs….

How will this play out in Congress….at is if it ever makes it there or will this be just another exercise for the Magic Sharpie?

Remember Putin’s Nuke Thing?

And the stew thickens.

Ever since the West has been supplying the implements of destruction to Ukraine Russia has been mouthing all sorts of crap about Russian nukes….and of course those naysayers think he, Putin, will eventually use his nukes and then stroll down Main Street.

You do remember those days….I mean it has not been that long ago or is the gold fish analogy accurate?

In the 1990s Ukraine was one of the first nations of the former USSR that started disabling and destroying the nukes that was left in their country….and now Biden wants to possibly change that….

According to the New York Times, US and European officials have discussed a range of options they believe will deter Russia from taking more Ukrainian territory, including providing Kiev with nuclear weapons. The outlet reports that Western officials believe the Kremlin will not significantly escalate the war before Donald Trump is sworn in as President in January.

Following the election of Trump earlier this month, the US and its NATO allies began taking steps to rush weapons to Ukraine and give Kiev the ability to strike targets inside Russian territory with long-range weapons.

American officials who were briefed on the intelligence community’s assessments told the Times that weapons will not alter the challenging situation that Kiev is currently facing. “US spy agencies have assessed that speeding up the provisions of weapons, ammunition and matériel for Ukraine will do little to change the course of the war in the short term,” the Times reports.

Desperate to bolster Ukraine’s standing in the war before the transition of power on January 20, the Biden administration is looking at a range of serious escalations. “US and European officials are discussing deterrence as a possible security guarantee for Ukraine, such as stockpiling a conventional arsenal sufficient to strike a punishing blow if Russia violates a cease-fire.” The article continues, “Several officials even suggested that Mr. Biden could return nuclear weapons to Ukraine that were taken from it after the fall of the Soviet Union.”

(antiwar.com)

Now you see why I have labeled the Dems as a party of war….this is a horrible idea and could will lead to an escalation of the conflict that could engulf the whole region and possibly the world.

Former military Commander-in-Chief and Ukraine’s current ambassador to the UK, Valery Zaluzhny, made the dire statement in an interview with Politico published on Thursday. “I believe that in 2024 we can absolutely believe that the Third World War has begun,” he said.

Zaluzhny argued that Chinese, Iranian, and North Korean support for Russia supported his statement. “It is obvious that Ukraine already has too many enemies. Ukraine will survive with technology, but it is not clear whether it can win this battle alone,” he explained.

This type of intervention is another reason that I do not vote Democrat….they are bigger neocons warmongers than any other party.

Zelensky Will Say Whatever It Takes

I have noticed that the opinions on the Ukraine conflict are lacking….that is concerning for the US is pumping money and equipment into the country at break neck speed and no one cares enough to pay attention.

For instance recently Zelensky has made a bold statement…..

The “Z” Man played the nuke card knowing that the West is ate up with nuclear paranoia.

Volodymyr Zelensky wished the United States a happy Independence Day and offered thanks for supporting Ukraine in its defense against the Russian invasion. Later in the day, however, the Ukrainian president delivered a more ominous-sounding message, alleging that, per Ukrainian intelligence, Russian forces had positioned “objects resembling explosives” on the roofs of certain facilities at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, Europe’s largest nuclear facility, per the Hill. In his nightly address, Zelensky noted this was being done “perhaps to simulate an attack on the plant”—meaning, an attack meant to insinuate that Ukraine had gone after its own power plant, which has been under Russian control since the beginning of the war.

Indeed, the Institute for the Study of War, a US-based nonprofit think tank, tells Newsweek that Russia “is likely focused on accusing Ukraine of irresponsible actions around the [Zaporizhzhia plant], including setting conditions for a possible false flag attack.” Renat Karchaa, an adviser to the head of Rosenergoatom, which manages Russia’s nuclear power program, told Russian TV on Tuesday that Ukraine planned on attacking the Zaporizhzhia plant overnight on Wednesday, “with the use of high-precision long-range weapons,” including a “high-precision rocket with a warhead stuffed with radioactive waste,” per Tass.

In a Tuesday statement cited by the Guardian, Ukraine’s armed forces said that “operational data” relayed that the alleged explosive devices had been placed on top of the power plant’s third and fourth reactors, with an attack potentially coming “in the near future.” “If detonated, they would not damage the reactors but would create an image of shelling from the Ukrainian side,” the group’s statement noted. The Guardian notes that no evidence has been provided by Karchaa, Zelensky, or the Ukrainian military for their allegations.

A year ago this news would have sent the warmongers into a frenzy of diatribes and condemnations….today barely a wimpy.

Then a report from the IAEA does not confirm Zelensky’s attempt to generate more sympathy that equates into more money.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Wednesday that its inspectors have seen no sign of explosives at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine despite claims from Kyiv that Russia had planted bombs.

According to an IAEA press release, Director-General Rafael Grossi said the agency’s experts “have in recent days and weeks inspected parts of the facility — including some sections of the perimeter of the large cooling pond — and have also conducted regular walk-downs across the site, so far without observing any visible indications of mines or explosives.”

The press release said Grossi has requested more access to the ZNPP, specifically the “rooftops of reactor units 3 and 4 is essential, as well as access to parts of the turbine halls and some parts of the cooling system at the plant.”

Grossi said with “military tension and activities increasing in the region where this major nuclear power plant is located, our experts must be able to verify the facts on the ground. Their independent and objective reporting would help clarify the current situation at the site, which is crucial at a time like this with unconfirmed allegations and counter allegations.”

“The Day After”

For about 6 months the national leaders and MSM and bloggers have been fanning the fear of a new nuclear scare. That got me thinking about decades ago when millions of Americans became paranoid about the possibility of the nuke attack on this country.

The Pentagon issued its annual report on China……

The Pentagon this week issued its annual report on China’s military power that claimed Beijing could nearly quadruple its nuclear stockpile by 2035, bringing it to 1,500 warheads.

Current estimates put China’s nuclear stockpile at about 350, although the Pentagon claims the number has surpassed 400. Beijing has signaled it plans to increase its nuclear deterrence, but it’s not clear if they will build new warheads at the rate the Pentagon estimates.

China’s arsenal is vastly smaller than the US and Russia’s and, unlike Washington and Moscow, has a no-first-use policy. Including retired warheads that are expected to be dismantled, the US is estimated to possess 5,500 warheads, and Russia is said to have 6,250.

(antiwar.com)

Now this brings me to a piece of the past.

Does anyone remember the TV series “The Day After”?

Let’s look back.

Before Nicholas Meyer’s made-for-television film The Day After had its official airing on November 20, 1983, then-President Ronald Reagan and his Joint Chiefs of Staff were given screening copies. In his diary, Reagan recorded his reaction to seeing Meyer’s graphic depiction of a nuclear holocaust that devastates a small Kansas town, writing:

“It’s very effective and left me greatly depressed. So far they [ABC] haven’t sold any of the 25 spot ads scheduled and I can see why. Whether it will be of help to the ‘anti-nukes’ or not, I can’t say. My own reaction was one of our having to do all we can to have a deterrent and to see there is never a nuclear war.”

Just a few days later, the rest of America would see what had shaken their president. Preempting Hardcastle and McCormick on ABC, the 8 p.m. telefilm drew a staggering 100 million viewers, an audience that at the time was second only in non-sports programming to the series finale of M*A*S*H. According to Nielsen, 62 percent of all televisions in use that night were tuned in.

What they watched didn’t really qualify as entertainment; Meyer stated he had no desire to make a “good” movie with stirring performances or rousing music, but a deeply affecting public service announcement on the horrors of a nuclear fallout. He succeeded … perhaps a little too well.

https://getpocket.com/explore/item/when-em-the-day-after-em-terrorized-100-million-viewers-with-a-vision-of-nuclear-war

What made me think of this movie was something one of our nuclear chiefs has said….

The commander that oversees US nuclear forces delivered an ominous warning at a naval conference last week by calling the war in Ukraine a “warmup” for the “big one” that is to come.

“This Ukraine crisis that we’re in right now, this is just the warmup,” said Navy Adm. Charles Richard, the commander of US Strategic command. “The big one is coming. And it isn’t going to be very long before we’re going to get tested in ways that we haven’t been tested [in] a long time.”

Richard’s warning came after the US released its new Nuclear Posture Review (NPR), which reaffirms that the US doctrine allows for the first use of nuclear weapons. The review says that the purpose of the US nuclear arsenal is to “deter strategic attacks, assure allies and partners, and achieve US objectives if deterrence fails.”

The NPR says the US “would only consider the use of nuclear weapons in extreme circumstances to defend the vital interests of the United States or its Allies or partners.”

US Nuclear Forces Chief Says ‘the Big One Is Coming’

I am wondering how long will it be until there is a remake or a re-issue of this movie to sell the idea more than their reports are doing so these days.

Whatcha think?

The Nuke Hysteria

Recently there has been many words written and said about Putin and the use of nukes….I have made my feelings known on several occasions….now there is a new story line about the use of a dirty bombs which is a nasty piece of work but it is not as devastating as a nuclear bomb.

I have found a couple of reports on these two story lines….

First Putin has made a statement on the use of nukes…..

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said that Moscow has no plans to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine and warned the world is facing the most dangerous decade since World War II.

“We see no need for that,” Putin said of the use of nuclear weapons in Ukraine in a speech at the Valdai Club, a Moscow-based think tank. “There is no point in that, neither political, nor military.”

Putin recently warned that Russia could use all the weapons at its disposal to defend its “territorial integrity,” and other Russian officials made clear that included nuclear weapons and applied to the territories Moscow recently annexed in Ukraine.

But there’s been no sign that Putin has made a decision to use nuclear weapons, and he said Thursday that Russia’s recent talk of nuclear weapons was a reaction to remarks from Western officials.

Discussing current global tensions, Putin said that the world is facing “probably, the most dangerous, unpredictable and at the same time important decade since the end of World War II.”

(antiwar.com)

But we hate Putin so that would be a lie, right?

The State Department has made some intel available to us peasants on the Putin nuke thing…..

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Thursday that the US has still not seen anything to indicate that Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to use a dirty bomb, per the AP. He said there are continued concerns that the conflict could escalate, and he said that’s why it is critical for the US to keep the lines of communication open with allies and with Russia. “We’re going to continue to communicate that any type of use of a weapon of that sort, or even the talk of the use of a weapon of that sort is dangerous and irresponsible,” said Austin, who spoke with his Russian counterpart twice in the last week.

“It’s important to make sure that we’re talking to adversaries and allies alike and making sure that that we’re tamping down dangerous talk.” Asked if there are concerns Russia might use its upcoming nuclear exercises as a cover for a strike inside Ukraine, Austin said, “it’s something we continue to watch. And we haven’t seen anything to cause us to believe at this point that that is some kind of cover activity.” Moscow has repeatedly made the unfounded claim that Ukraine is preparing to use a “dirty bomb,” an explosive devise with radioactive material, on its own territory. Western officials have dismissed the claim as misinformation possibly designed as a pretext for Russia to justify its own military escalation.

The State Department would not lie…so that is good news, right?

Just to let you, my readers, know what is being said….but remember actions speak louder than words.

More Nukes….More threats

WE all know, well those that can read, know all about the threats Vlad the Invader has made about the use of nukes….and we all know of the response to those threats.

Then there is the use of long range missiles by Lil Kim of North Korea….and of course that has South Korea and Japan scrambling…..

Now the US has made it’s ideas known….

The US makes its threat….

Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman said the US would be willing to deploy nuclear weapons against North Korea under certain conditions. During her recent trip to South Korea, Vice President Kamala Harris called for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Washington “will use the full range of US defense capabilities to defend our allies, including nuclear, conventional and missile defense capabilities,” the deputy secretary said during a meeting with South Korean and Japanese officials. Sherman added that the US security commitment to Seoul and Tokyo is “ironclad.”

The threat to use the bomb against North Korea comes nearly a month after Harris traveled to South Korea and demanded Pyongyang abandon its nuclear arsenal. The government led by Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un has consistently maintained that its nuclear forces are a deterrent against US-led military action.

In recent months, military activity on the Korean Peninsula has seen a significant spike, with Washington and Seoul conducting provocative live-fire war games, while a US aircraft carrier recently made a port call to South Korea for the first time in several years.

Washington, Seoul and Tokyo signed a trilateral agreement to step up security ties in June. The three countries recently held joint military drills. North Korea denounced the agreement as an American effort to create a NATO-like alliance in the Pacific.

https://libertarianinstitute.org/news/white-house-threatens-to-use-nuclear-weapons-against-north-korea/

Now back to the nuke threat from Vlad…..

The US is running nuke drills close to the Russian border…..plus the US is upgrading the nukes in Europe….The revelation of the plan comes as both Russia and NATO are conducting nuclear exercises. President Biden recently said the risk of nuclear “armageddon” is at its highest since the end of the Cold War, but his administration has shown no interest in pursuing diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine or ease tensions with Moscow.

The US has accelerated plans to deploy an upgraded version of its primary nuclear gravity bomb to Europe amid heightened tensions with Russia over the potential use of nuclear weapons.

A cable obtained by Politico reveals that US officials told NATO allies in Brussels this month that they will send an upgraded version of the B61-12 air-dropped gravity bomb to Europe by December. The upgraded bomb was originally set to arrive in Europe next spring.

The plan involves replacing older weapons with upgraded bombs at US storage facilities in Europe. The US keeps about 100 nuclear warheads at air bases in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, and Turkey.

(antiwar.com)

As a response from Vlad was predictable…..

Russia has notified the US that it has started its nuclear exercises, two US officials said on Tuesday, according to CBS News.

“Russia is complying with its arms control obligations and its transparency commitments to make those notifications,” Pentagon spokesman Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder told reporters.

Russia is holding its annual Grom exercises that will be held for several weeks, and the US says they will include the launching of nuclear-capable ballistic missiles. The drills coincide with NATO’s nuclear exercises, known as Steadfast Noon, that are being hosted by Belgium and held over the UK and the North Sea.

Both exercises have been described as “routine” but come amid soaring tensions between the US and Russia over the potential use of nuclear weapons. President Biden recently warned that the risk of nuclear war is higher now than at any time since the height of the Cold War.

NATO’s Steadfast Noon exercises do not involve live-fire drills, but 14 alliance members are participating. The US, Britain, and France are NATO’s only nuclear-armed powers, but five other alliance members host US nuclear warheads under NATO’s nuclear sharing program; Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and Turkey.

You know that all this sounds like of couple of sex crazed gorillas circling each other thumping their chests.

All the threats…..sorry but it is all so silly if it were not so scary.

The nuclear ballet has begun…..where will it end?

Apparently the anti-nuke sentiments of the 70s and 80s in Europe has been buried….

The US’s European allies are concerned that the US may dial back its support for Ukraine if Republicans are victorious in the upcoming midterm elections.

That would mean they would have to cough up more cash in the support of this war.

Finland will not make things better…in their desire to join NATO they will allow nukes on the Russian border….

NATO nuclear weapons could potentially be placed on Russia’s border with Finland if Helsinki joins the Western military alliance, Newsweek reported on Wednesday, citing a Finnish newspaper.

The newspaper Iltalehti reported that the bill the Finnish government will put before the country’s parliament on joining NATO doesn’t include any opt-outs for hosting nuclear weapons.

Finnish military sources told the paper that Finland’s foreign minister and defense minister committed to NATO back in July that they wouldn’t seek “restrictions or national reservations” if their application to join the alliance is accepted. Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said earlier this month that Finland had “no preconditions” for joining NATO.

While Finland may be willing to host nuclear weapons, it’s unlikely they would be placed in the country after it joins NATO, at least in the near future. Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin has previously said the alliance has expressed no interest in placing nuclear warheads in Finland.

Currently, the alliance keeps no nuclear warheads in countries that joined NATO after the end of the Cold War, although Poland recently said it’s had discussions with the US on hosting the weapons.

Looking For The “Cloud”

I am not talking about that imaginary location that computer nerds use all the time.

This “Cloud” is the one that so many Americans are fearing….the none that is left by the detonation of a nuke.

There are so many people blogging about the the possibility….it is interesting that most of the ‘posts’ are to add to the fear that Americans are feeling.

When Putin thumped his chest and threaten to use nukes Pres. Biden went on a tear with threats of his own….

This is surrender in multiple directions, or so it seemed to me as I read these words the other day in the New York Times — surrender to the worst (the stupidest) of who we are, on the part not only of the growling superpowers on both sides of the conflict, who are apparently playing games with Armageddon, but also surrender on the part of the mainstream media, which has failed, yet again, to cover war in the context of a larger sanity.

Oops, darn that mushroom cloud!

Maintaining peace through militarism — us vs. them, good guy wins, bad guy loses — has gotten blown up in the age of nukes. But for some reason any grasp of this remains politically marginal. In a world that has sliced itself into international borders, power remains a matter of dominance, or so the world’s leaders (and the media that covers them) continue, apparently, to believe.

Much of Planet Earth is moving beyond this glaringly lethal ignorance, but the most “powerful” nations on the planet remain spiritually underdeveloped. It’s the only way they can hold onto their power.

Nukes, War and Moral Sanity

Is Putin serious?

Well the State Department has made a statement…..

White House national security spokesman John Kirby on Tuesday said that the United States has not seen any indication that Russian President Vladimir Putin has made a decision on whether to use nuclear weapons amid the war in Ukraine, but that recent comments make it “imperative” for the U.S. to monitor the situation.

“We’ve seen no indication, nothing that tells us Mr. Putin has made a decision to use nuclear weapons or weapons of mass destruction at all inside Ukraine,” he told reporters. “And we’ve seen no indication that the Russian apparatus is moving anything to prepare for that kind of a decision.”

Kirby said that his information is based on the U.S. monitoring Putin’s capabilities, which it has done since the beginning of the conflict. Additionally, he said that the U.S. has not seen anything that would cause it to change its strategic deterrence posture to defend itself or allies and partners.

Kirby: No indication that Putin has decided to use nuclear weapons

Instead of whining and bitching about nukes…..maybe they should do something besides sit on their ass and whimpering…..

Right now, we’re closer to a cataclysmic nuclear war than at any other time since the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. One assessment after another has said the current situation is even more dangerous.

Yet few members of Congress are advocating for any steps that the U.S. government could take to decrease the dangers of a nuclear conflagration. The silences and muted statements on Capitol Hill are evading the reality of what’s hanging in the balance – the destruction of almost all human life on Earth. “The end of civilization.”

Constituent passivity is helping elected officials to sleepwalk toward unfathomable catastrophe for all of humanity. If senators and representatives are to be roused out of their timid refusal to urgently address – and work to reduce – the present high risks of nuclear war, they need to be confronted. Nonviolently and emphatically.

What could the US government do to lessen the chances of global nuclear annihilation? The Defuse Nuclear War campaign, which is coordinating those picket lines, has identified key needed actions. Such as:

  • Rejoin nuclear-weapons treaties the US has pulled out of.

President George W. Bush withdrew the United States from the Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty in 2002. Under Donald Trump, the US withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty in 2019. Both pacts significantly reduced the chances of nuclear war.

  • Take US nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert.

Four hundred intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) are armed and ready for launch from underground silos in five states. Because they’re land-based, those missiles are vulnerable to attack and thus are on hair-trigger alert – allowing only minutes to determine whether indications of an incoming attack are real or a false alarm.

  • End the policy of “first use.”

Like Russia, the United States has refused to pledge not to be the first to use nuclear weapons.

  • Support congressional action to avert nuclear war.

In the House, H.Res. 1185 includes a call for the United States to “lead a global effort to prevent nuclear war.”

Bitching is the easy part….action takes gonads and determination….a couple of things armchair generals have in short supply.
