UFOs And Schumer

Ask yourself why!

The big news is that a bi-partisan group will push for the government to make UFO information public (except when national security would prevent it)….

This is not a joke!

I am serious!

Over the last six years, the entire UFO topics has shifted from conspiracy theory to suddenly the U.S. Government accepting the objects in the sky are real but they don’t know what they are. On Thursday, the New York Times finally addressed the latest developments in the story with a breaking news update that could send this issue to a whole new level. Before this update, there were already a number of U.S. Senators who kept on appearing in news shows and pushed for public hearings after the recent whistleblower claims from David Grusch. But the highest-ranking senator just turned this story on its head by tweeting the New York Times Story on his official Twitter account. According to the report, Schumer is officially going to push legislation that will attempt to declassify UFO documents.

In the legislation, the Senate Majority Leader will also force private companies to present every bit of important information that deals with “extraterrestrial matters”. That phrase was written by the article author in the New York Times, making it the first time that terms is coined by one of the highest authority news organizations in the world. Here’s what Chuck Schumer wrote on his official Twitter account: “I’m introducing new legislation to declassify government records related to unidentified anomalous phenomena and UFOs as an amendment to the NDAA, modeled after the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act.” This legislation will have bipartisan support, according to the New York Times.

Seriously?

What are the chances that this will pass?

Slim to none…..

Sorry but if this is the best we can do for bi-partisanship then all is lost.

You telling me these slugs could not find something more important than is ET stopping by for a joy ride?

This country is circling the drain and we are going to waste time and resources worrying about something that holds no importance to the grand scheme of things.

We have national hunger…..a failing infrastructure….a government that cannot function without the cash of lobbyists….rights are being eroded away…..and finally lazy politicians who can be bought and sold.

And you think this country can be saved from itself….I have my doubts.

Space News Sunday

I am always on the look out for some weird news about space stuff…….most readers are not interested but what the Hell….it beats the major news of the day.

I like to read the stories about all those aliens that have been coming here for a long long time (we know those ancient alien sickos).

It is a Sunday and I thought I would share some of the news I found.

I read a couple of doozy about ‘time travelers’….

A person claiming to have travelled back in time from more than 800 years in the future says this year will see humans at war with extra-terrestrials.

The TikTok user took to the platform to warn people of natural disasters and alien encounters on the horizon in 2023, claiming of an “inter-dimensional” which will break out before the year is up.

Named only as “beyondtimetraveller” and purporting to be from the year 2869, the mystery user gave a list of dates to be aware of this year with the first just two months away, Daily Star reports.

Predicting a major disaster for the US, the user prophesised: “Remember these dates, humans may reconsider the existence of us, time travelers [sic]. March 18th, 2023: A 8.1 earthquake on the Richter scale hit in Wisiller in Alaska.

“June 26, 2023: A new creature bigger than the blue whale is discovered in the Pacific Ocean, it measure 350 feet.

https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/time-traveller-claims-2023-see-28999314

Then there is the one about 2 ‘time travelers’ that are stuck in 2027…..

Two ‘time travellers’ who claim to come from 2027 have been sharing videos which they say prove they are alone in the future.

Javier and Maria have been posting on social media claiming to be stuck alone in 2027 with only each other for company and “no sign of human life”.

Neither of the self-proclaimed time travellers ever show their face in the apparent clips from four years’ time which are clearly deserted.

Maria, who claims to be a scientist and goes by the TikTok username of @socmia, says in her bio: “Time is an illusion. Alone in the world with unicosobreviviente.”

Then there is the paper about messages sent by alien space probes….

If we ever detect an Extraterrestrial Civilization (ETC) and start communicating with them, the messages could take years, decades, or even centuries to travel back and forth.

We face a challenging 49-minute long delay just communicating with the Juno spacecraft orbiting Jupiter, and that’s well within our Solar System. Communicating with an ETC that’s hundreds of light-years away or even further is a daunting task.

It’s even worse if we’re sending probes.

Imagine if a robotic probe arrived in our Solar System, sent by an ETC. They detected us and sent their probe to introduce themselves and learn more about us. We would be shocked, and the event would change civilization’s trajectory forever.

Imagine we waited for another one, and imagine that we had to wait centuries. Generations of humans would live and die, we would’ve learned all we could from the probe, and it would sit in a museum somewhere.

As humanity waited for the next probe, the scientific community would publish a flood of papers on the probe and what might happen next. A whole new field of study would be born. Politicians would stake entire careers on the issue, and opinion-piece writers, artists, and musicians would have a field day. Scams would appear, and cults might spring up.

Watch SciFi movies and shows and all aliens seem to have two legs and two arms…..but will that be accurate?

Sarah Stewart Johnson was a college sophomore when she first stood atop Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano. Its dried lava surface was so different from the eroded, tree-draped mountains of her home state of Kentucky. Johnson wandered away from the other young researchers she was with and toward a distant ridge of the 13,800-foot summit. Looking down, she turned over a rock with the toe of her boot. To her surprise, a tiny fern lived underneath it, having sprouted from ash and cinder cones. “It felt like it stood for all of us, huddled under that rock, existing against the odds,” Johnson says.

Her true epiphany, though, wasn’t about the hardiness of life on Earth or the hardships of being human: It was about aliens. Even if a landscape seemed strange and harsh from a human perspective, other kinds of life might find it quite comfortable. The thought opened up the cosmic real estate, and the variety of life, she imagined might be beyond Earth’s atmosphere. “It was on that trip that the idea of looking for life in the universe began to make sense to me,” Johnson says.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/the-search-for-extraterrestrial-life-as-we-dont-know-it/

As long as we are talking about ET….

My friend Kevin Kelly, a co-founder of Wired and my partner at Recomendo, says, “I have some strongly-stated, loosely-held hunches about the probability of life elsewhere in the universe. My certainty about these beliefs is quite low, but it is much higher than my belief in the alternatives.”

You can read all 12 assumptions here, but here are the 10) and 11):

10) The only reason for an advanced civilization to visit another planet is to see if there is another civilization which has invented things it has not, and perhaps could not invent. Invented resources are thus unlimited in scale and scope, and can be discovered only in unique places in the cosmos. Interstellar travel is essentially not travel through cosmic space but travel through possibility space. You visit another planet to visit other possible minds to see if they have thought of fabulous technologies your collective minds cannot reach.

11) Every day a few probes of these billions of interstellar civilizations visit our planet scoping out our technological state. These technological probes appear briefly in order to see us, and disappear once they have inspected our inventory. So far we have little to offer; nothing that can’t be found on millions of other planets.

Author Kevin Kelly’s “12 assumptions for extraterrestrial life”

That was fun…..absolutely worthless news that will entertain or it will be ignored.

I try to give my readers a diversion from the crappy news that we deal with everyday.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend….be well and be safe….

Closing Thought–15Jan21

UFOS!

THere has much speculation on what the US government knows about so-called UFOs.

Is there a cover-up?

The CIA has finally released some documents to the public.

Want to know the Central Intelligence Agency’s lowdown on UFOs? If you’ve got the time and the curiosity, download every single file that’s in the public domain, because they’re now available for the taking. Motherboard reports that, after years of behind-the-scenes wrangling, declassified-docs repository the Black Vault has opened an archive where anyone can browse and download PDFs of CIA intel on unidentified aerial phenomena (the agency’s fancy alt name for unidentified flying objects, or UFOs), some of them stretching back to the ’80s. Black Vault founder John Greenewald Jr. says he started filing Freedom of Information Act requests for some of the files back in 1996, and the CIA finally acquiesced, as well as on other previously unreleased records, placing them all on a CD-ROM that Greenewald bought from them sometime last year.

t was like pulling teeth,” he tells Motherboard of his efforts to get the files. The New York Post notes Greenewald’s obsession with filing FOIAs with the CIA and getting his hands on such documents began when he was a teen. Users can either download the entire intel collection as Greenewald originally received it from the CIA (though he says those TIF files are “incredibly difficult” to sift through, as they’re not searchable) or as an easier-to-use file, created by him converting the original TIFs to PDFs. The files can also be downloaded individually. The CIA insists this is everything they’ve got on the matter, though Greenewald notes on the Black Vault site we can’t know if that’s really true. If it actually isn’t, Greenewald is on the case. “Research by the Black Vault will continue to see if there are additional documents still uncovered within the CIA’s holdings,” he vows on his site.

This should give the Ancient Alien crowd something to do….before they spin it in their direction.

Alien Stuff

My regulars know I like to get a bit whimsical on weekends…..well this one is no different only I am eating leftovers for days to come.

Let’s look to the stars…..or something like that…..

Mysterious circles in space…

A mysterious, hazy, circular object has appeared in space, and astronomers have been trying to figure out what it is for over a year.

According to an article in The Conversation by Ray Norris, a science professor at Western Sydney Universe, via Space.com, astronomer Anna Kapinska presented an image to Norris and the rest of her colleagues in September 2019 labeled “WTF?” The image showed a smoky ball chilling in space. None of the scientists knew what it was.

Another was found a few days later. Now, scientists estimate there are about 1,000 of them. An image of the phenomena can be seen in The Conversation. Scientists have named them ORCs, which stands for “odd radio circles.” They don’t know how big or far away these rings are.

https://www.ign.com/articles/spooky-circles-in-space-are-puzzling-astronomers

Could they be a message from some “Galactic Federation/Empire?

There are claims/reports of a photo of  crashed alien ship….

main article image

Any species reaching for the stars is bound to have its fingertips singed. Probably more than once.

One of NASA’s posts on the Astronomy Picture of the Day website is an iconic reminder of the mishaps in our spacefaring history.

“A flying saucer from outer space crash-landed in the Utah desert after being tracked by radar and chased by helicopters,” states the photo description, posted in November 2018, although NASA is not hinting at an alien visit here.

The banged-up dish, half-buried in the desert sand, was actually the return capsule of the Genesis spacecraft. And it wasn’t supposed to touch down in such a brutal way.

Launched on 8 August 2001, the Genesis mission was the space agency’s ambitious effort to send a spacecraft into our home star’s solar wind, gather samples, and return them to Earth.

Did I peak your interest?

Let’s say those elusive aliens decidef to make themselves know….what question should we ask before we start shooting?

Any science journalist would rejoice at the revelation of aliens on Earth. It would be the story of a lifetime. So it’s not surprising that a former Israeli space official’s claim that a Galactic Federation is known to the U.S. government has made a few headlines and trended on Twitter.

Of course, most science journalists have already been alerted to the presence of aliens by any number of readers who would like to testify about their personal E.T. encounters.

Yet despite how desperately some science journalists wish for alien visitation to be real, few among us ever believe any such reports. Proper policy is to decline to interview any would-be informant about their alien experience and instead insist on interviewing the aliens themselves.

And so I would be willing to come out of retirement and conduct such an interview if any Galactic Federation alien monitoring Science News would be willing to submit to some tough questions. Only condition would be the alien must wear a high-quality mask, covering its damn nose if it has one.

Top 10 questions I’d ask an alien from the Galactic Federation

But since we have not seen any of those space dudes…..could there be a reason?

There is lots of theories to why we do not see more aliens visiting this part of the universe….from they await our development before revealing themselves to this piece of research……

While we have never, ever found signs of life outside of our planet, a recent study, published in the Cornell University arXiv database claims that alien civilizations that were part of our galaxy have probably already killed themselves off already.

The new study employed the use of modern astronomy and statistical modeling in efforts to map the life and death of intelligent life forms in time and space across our Milky Way. These results, which are a more concise update to Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence founder Frank Drake’s 1961 famous equation. Drake’s equation concerned a number of different variables used to determine just how many alien civilizations are detectable in the Milky Way. Some of the variables included the rate of formation of stars suitable for the development of intelligent life (number per year), the number of planets, per solar system, with an environment suitable for life, the fraction of civilizations that develop a technology that produces detectable signs of their existence, and the average length of time such civilizations produce such signs (years). This equation was made more popular by Carl Sagan in his 13-part mini-series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.

Aliens Aren’t Visiting Because They Killed Themselves Off

Personally I am not visiting because there is a bouy in space that states….”Warning;  This world has an extremely dangerous species that should be avoid at all costs.”

About all I have for this Sunday…..enjoy and relax for next week we start all this over again.

Space

Now that we have a president-elect I will return to my usual FYI postings on the weekends….you may thank me later…..

Let’s start with space stuff!

The new interest in space especially by some of those wealthy dudes that see space as the next frontier they can exploit has more and more news …..and as an opinionated SOB good fodder for IST posts.

The planet that cannot exist!

As Earth telescopes scan the stars for planets that may support life, they also find plenty of things that leave astronomers scratching their heads. Researchers say a planet they call a “hot Neptune” falls right into the head-scratching category. Not only does this scolding hot world travel around its sun in less than a day, it has an atmosphere that “shouldn’t exist.”

University of Kansas astronomer Ian Crossfield says new data from NASA’s TESS and Spitzer space telescopes is providing the first look at an exoplanet’s atmosphere the satellites captured. Planet LTT 9779b, which sits about 260 light-years from Earth and is so close to its home star it doesn’t have ground for a probe to land on.

https://www.studyfinds.org/astronomers-find-hot-neptune-with-atmosphere-that-shouldnt-exist/

Not to worry for water has been found on the Moon….

The moon is littered with patches of hidden water, NASA researchers have discovered.

That’s great news for the agency’s plans to send astronauts back to the moon, set up a permanent base there, and eventually use it as a stopping point on the way to Mars.

Those ambitions hinge on the ability to mine water ice on the moon and break it down into oxygen and hydrogen to make rocket fuel. Since it’s extremely expensive and difficult to launch enough fuel off Earth to get astronauts to Mars, water on the moon is likely to play a critical role in kick-starting a new era of human deep-space exploration.

Is someone or thing watching us?

New research suggests if life exists in space, then aliens on 1004 neighbouring stars could be watching us from afar.
Astronomers in the US have issued a paper theorising some exoplanets, which are planets orbiting stars outside our solar system, may have a direct line of sight to observe chemical reactions in the Earth’s atmosphere.
“If observers were out there searching, they would be able to see signs of a biosphere in the atmosphere of our Pale Blue Dot,” Lisa Kaltenegger, a Cornell University astronomer and lead author of the paper, said in a statement.
Over the last decade, astronomers have discovered 4292 exoplanets orbiting 3185 stars by maintaining a close eye on a host star and waiting for it to dim.
The dimming suggests a planet has passed through the space between the telescope and the star.
By analysing the way the light dims, the chemical contents of the planet’s atmosphere can be deciphered and life may be detected based on those chemicals reactions

NASA has landed on an asteroid and is taking samples to return to Earth for analysis…….but there is a slight problem….it sucked up too much sample….
A NASA spacecraft is stuffed with so much asteroid rubble from this week’s grab that it’s jammed open and precious particles are drifting away in space, scientists said Friday. Scientists announced the news three days after the spacecraft named Osiris-Rex briefly touched asteroid Bennu, NASA’s first attempt at such a mission, the AP reports. The mission’s lead scientist, Dante Lauretta of the University of Arizona, said Tuesday’s operation 200 million miles away collected far more material than expected for return to Earth—in the hundreds of grams. The sample container on the end of the robot arm penetrated so deeply into the asteroid and with such force, however, that rocks got sucked in and became wedged around the rim of the lid.

Scientists estimate the sampler pressed as much as 19 inches into the rough, crumbly, black terrain. “We’re almost a victim of our own success here,” Lauretta said at a hastily arranged news conference. Lauretta said there is nothing flight controllers can do to clear the obstructions and prevent more bits of Bennu from escaping, other than to get the samples into their return capsule as soon as possible. So, the flight team was scrambling to put the sample container into the capsule as early as Tuesday—much sooner than originally planned—for the long trip home. “Time is of the essence,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, chief of NASA’s science missions. The samples won’t make it back until 2023, seven years after the spacecraft rocketed away from Cape Canaveral.
We Americans seem to do everything in excess and I guess space samples are no different.

NASA and the Europeans have finalized a deal for an orbital Lunar station…..

NASA announced that it’s formally partnered with the European Space Agency (ESA) to develop the Gateway, the space station it plans to launch into orbit around the Moon.

Moving forward, the Gateway station — which is meant to allow long-term lunar exploration by serving as a middle ground between space and the lunar surface — will be an international venture, according to a NASA press release. And after helping establish a human presence on and around the Moon, tantalizingly, the joint project could help both NASA and the ESA eventually reach Mars.

Did you ever wonder why there are so many determined to go to space (corporations that is)?

One meteor could be worth $10,000 quadrillion….you read that right that right…..quadrillion.

Somewhere between Mars and Jupiter is a potato-shaped space rock possibly worth way more than the entire economy of Earth. Italian astronomer Annibale de Gasparis discovered the Massachusetts-sized asteroid known as 16 Psyche lurking in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter in 1852, per Fox News. New observations courtesy of the Hubble Space Telescope suggest that unlike most other asteroids, which are made of rock or ice, this 140-mile-wide asteroid is made almost entirely of metal—specifically, iron and nickel—and worth an estimated $10,000 quadrillion. You need 19 zeros to write that number out in full. More important to scientists, however, are the possible clues to the origin of the universe that may lay hidden in its folds, some 230 million miles from Earth.

It’s thought that the asteroid is a protoplanet, or an incomplete planet, that could reveal the “building blocks” of the solar system, says Tracy Becker of the Southwest Research Institute, lead author of a study published in the Planetary Science Journal. It’s possible that an early planet as large as Mars “was struck by another object in our solar system and lost its mantle and crust,” leaving only the metal core behind, she adds. “Once we get to Psyche, we’re really going to understand if that’s the case.” NASA plans to launch a spacecraft to the asteroid in August 2022, with arrival scheduled for January 2026. The orbiter, dubbed Psyche, will spend two years investigating the asteroid, per CBS News. A project scientist previously told the outlet that there are no plans to use its material for industry. Indeed, USA Today reports NASA “lacks the technology to mine it.”

Aliens Beware!

Closing Thought–16Oct20

This is not about our presidents hatred of immigrants but rather his silly threat to aliens of the ET type.

Recently Donald the Orange was asked about the alien sightings.

Donald Trump did not deny media reporting that the US Department of Defense has set up a task force to examine “unidentified alien phenomena” after the Air Force released a video earlier this year showing pilots flying by what many people have speculated was a UFO.

“Can you explain why the Department of Defense has set up a UFO task force?” Fox News host Maria Bartiromo asked Mr Trump in an interview on Sunday.

“Are there UFOs?” she asked.

“Well, I’m going to have to check on that. I mean, I’ve heard that. I heard that two days ago. So I’ll check on that. I’ll take a good, strong look at that,” Mr Trump said.

He then quickly segued into a boast about US military might, which some people on Twitter took to be the president threatening aliens with human weaponry.

“I will tell you this, we now have created a military the likes of which we’ve never had before, in terms of equipment. The equipment that we have, the weapons that we have, and hopefully — hope to god we never have to use them,” Mr Trump said.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-appears-threaten-aliens-military-185734178.html

Seriously?

Aliens that traveled millions of light years to arrive on this tiny blue ball and they will be intimidated by some Orange blowhard and a few of our pop guns.

Apparently once again this idiot in the Whiten House fired his moth off before his brain was in gear (that is giving him the benefit of the doubt that he has half a brain)….

Our initial contact in the movies never ends well….and yet we spend millions trying to contact them…..and show them the way here….

Trump’s chest thumping reminds me of the old saying….”bringing a knife to a gun fight”….typical blowhard response to something he does not understand.

Maybe the planet should invest a little time in coming up with a response if and when we are contacted….instead of trying to dominate their neighbors.

Just a thought!

Venus Calling

NASA has spent a lifetime trying to find life on Mars and then Venus made the news more so than Mars….

Researchers have discovered significant sources of phosphine in the atmosphere of Venus — a colorless and odorless gas that they say is a possible sign of life, as it’s often the result of organic matter breaking down here on Earth.

The research was led by Jane Greaves from Cardiff University in the UK, and was published in Nature Astronomy today.

So far, Venus hasn’t topped the list of planets seen by astrobiologists as most likely to harbor life. Its surface is a swirling mix of toxic and extremely hot vapors, and temperatures can reach a toasty 800 degrees Fahrenheit (426 Celsius), while high concentrations of sulfuric acid raining from the skies — with thick clouds blocking most sunlight from ever reaching the surface — would ensure that life as we know it would stand little chance of surviving there.

But despite the inhospitable environment on the surface, some microbial life may be able to survive in the planet’s atmosphere, the researchers hypothesize.

https://futurism.com/signs-of-life-venus-phosphine

Is it possible that there could actually be some form of life on Venus?  What can we do to verify the findings?

Researchers announced on Monday that they had found evidence of life in the clouds of Venus, drawing massive media attention.

To confirm that life exists in the planet’s atmosphere, however, would require us to actually go there and have a closer look. The last time a spacecraft entered the Venusian atmosphere was the Soviet Union’s Vega 2 in 1985.

But luckily, private New Zealand-based space company Rocket Lab says it’s already working on sending its own Electron rocket, with a 660 pound spacecraft called Photon on board, to the planet as soon as 2023, The New York Times reports.

https://futurism.com/the-byte/life-venus-rocket-lab-mission

All might want to tread lightly….for like the New World of the 15th century….a flag has already been planted on Venus….

Russian space agency chief Dmitry Rogozin called Venus a “Russian planet” on Tuesday at an industry exhibition taking place in Moscow.

The unusual comment followed the recent high-profile discovery of significant sources of phosphine gas in the planet’s atmosphere, a possible sign of life.

“Our country was the first and only one to successfully land on Venus,” Rogozin said, as quoted by The Moscow Times, referring to the country’s successful explorations of Venus in the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Roscosmos piled on, writing that the “enormous gap between the Soviet Union and its competitors in the investigation of Venus contributed to the fact that the United States called Venus a Soviet planet,” in a statement quoted by Euronews.

Repent–The End Is Near

Most of us remember the date the world was suppose to end, 21 December 2012, and on the morning of 22 December and we were still here….so that prediction was about as accurate as all those before it that have predicted the end of this sinful world.

Now some are saying the texts by the Maya were misread….and now we have a new date….

The reading of the Mayan calendar was wrong, according to a conspiracy theory on Twitter, and while the world didn’t end on Dec. 21, 2012, as originally prophesied by calendar readers, Mayan doomsday is sometime this week or next.

“Following the Julian Calendar, we are technically in 2012 … The number of days lost in a year due to the shift into Gregorian Calendar is 11 days … For 268 years using the Gregorian Calendar (1752-2020) times 11 days = 2,948 days. 2,948 days / 365 days (per year) = 8 years,” scientist Paolo Tagaloguin tweeted last week, according to the Sun. The series of tweets has since been deleted.

If Tagaloguin is correct, adding up all the missed days, then the Mayan doomsday date is … this week.

https://nypost.com/2020/06/13/reading-of-mayan-calendar-suggests-end-of-the-world-is-next-week/

I will be looking for my followers come Monday, 22 June 2020…..let me know if you made it.

Not to worry even if our civilization ends this weekend there are 36 more out there in space…..

According to a new study in The Astrophysical Journal, there could be dozens of intelligent alien civilizations hiding in our galaxy, all capable of communicating.

“There should be at least a few dozen active civilizations in our Galaxy under the assumption that it takes 5 billion years for intelligent life to form on other planets, as on Earth,” Christopher Conselice, Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Nottingham and lead author of the study, said in a statement.

Our doomed society has seen a decrease in students wanting to study history……but why?

In all those institutions, the number of history faculty increased, while the total number of students they taught fell.

I believe that the main reason for the decline in history is that students don’t care for the product the faculty is offering. Most history courses are now too specialized and often politically slanted to interest them.

The roots of what has happened to history go back to the 1960s, when the Vietnam War convinced a critical mass of college students that they could safely ignore whatever the older generation said. That war was indeed a catastrophe, but that single strategic mistake did not, as so many of my contemporaries thought, discredit the entire government, society, and intellectual tradition within which it took place.

Why Students Have Turned Away from History

Finally, I now have been told that racism no longer exist in the United States…..according to Trump’s economic adviser……

During an interview on CNBC, Kudlow said that Obama’s two successful presidential campaigns are part of the reason why he doesn’t believe in “systemic racism.”

“President Obama, the first black president, was elected twice, and he got 79 million white votes,” he said. “Therefore, I find it hard to understand something called systemic racism.”

Larry Kudlow’s claim that white people voting for Obama is evidence that systemic racism isn’t real is laughable. It’s also completely on-brand for him and the administration for which he works.

Take Us To Your Leader

It is the weekend again and the old professor is going to write about space again…that one subject that gets very little ink because it is just not that important to the world anymore….but that will change.

But it is to me. My concern is now that corporations are showing an interest in space travel where does that leave the human race?

For anyone that would like to get the news on space and policy……https://spacepolicyonline.com/

We have an Outer Space Treaty of 1968…that sets parameters for the exploration of space by member nations of the UN….however the problem is corporations have not signed on to this and are free to exploit without consequences.

https://lobotero.com/2019/11/17/the-outer-space-treaty-of-1967/

The exploration is NO longer for the benefit of humanity but rather for the profits corporations can extract.

Time for an updated treaty and laws that ALL will be held up to in the future.

Now we need to talk about the possibility of finding an alien race as we explore the universe……

In the course of human history, perhaps no landmark would ever compare to the discovery of extraterrestrial life. Hell, you’ve been waiting for it your whole life: that amazing moment where little grey dudes land on Earth, wave hello, and ask to be taken to your leader… assuming they don’t vaporize Earth’s cities, first. The mass of people who wanted to storm Area 51 demonstrates just how hungry Earthlings are for intergalactic companions. On the other hand, while meeting an E.T. would be ridiculously cool, it’d also prove that humans truly aren’t the center of the universe. Is Earth ready for that? And, if you ask the experts, how long will it be before first contact finally happens?

Next…..just what is the protocol if we have contact with alien life?

Well, there has been a lot of thought about it. “There’s a big debate within the whole community over whether we should respond or not,” says Dr John Elliot, joint coordinator for the UK Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (Seti) Research Network – although he admits that it may not be a choice that any single body gets to make. Seti’s policy, once it is fairly sure that an intercepted signal is an alien message, will be to share it openly to allow people all over the world to try to understand it. Thereafter, it will be hard to stop anyone from answering. “I would have thought that there would be a reply made in some form at some point round the globe by someone with the required equipment,” Elliot says.

This scenario imagines receiving a transmission, but not alien visitors themselves. The chance of that is considered remote, even by those who expect aliens to exist, because even aliens are presumed to work within the laws of physics. In summary: our galaxy is a flattish disc about 100,000 light years across, and our planet is right at a sparse edge of it; only a small proportion of the planets in our galaxy are within, say, 1,000 light years of us. As a result, even a craft from such a nearby planet travelling directly towards us at half of light speed – which may be impossibly fast for a machine with life inside it – would take 2,000 years to get here. Why would it come? And what are the chances of it arriving exactly now?

Let me add my thought on the possibility…..

You know when you go to the supermarket and some bum is outside soliciting funds and you pretend that you do not hear him?  In simpler terms…you ignore him and keep walking.

Well that is what aliens are doing….they are ignoring us and just continue on their way but not before putting up a space beacon that says “NO Intelligent Life Here”.

That is the space news for a Sunday……

Sunday In Space

One of my interests beyond foreign policy is our research into space and space travel. I try to give my readers an up to date look at our progress to get beyond our little blue marble.

This first bit is for my friend Pete of https://beetleypete.com/…..what would happen if aliens showed up in the UK?

If aliens were to be discovered, however, it’s not clear what we would like to happen next. A new survey in the UK carried out by researchers from the University of Oxford sought to find out what the British public would like to happen in the event E.T. did get in touch. In what came close to the cursed 48-52 percent split that has haunted British politics for the past three years, they found that just over half (53.6 percent) of people would want us to respond to communication from aliens.

Staying with the alien contact thingy…..

The study, published last month in The Astronomical Journal, posits that intelligent extraterrestrial life could be taking its time to explore the galaxy, harnessing star systems’ movement to make star-hopping easier.

The work is a new response to a question known as the Fermi Paradox, which asks why we haven’t detected signs of extraterrestrial intelligence.

The paradox was first posed by physicist Enrico Fermi, who famously asked: “Where is everybody?”

Fermi was questioning the feasibility of travel between stars, but since then, his query has come to represent doubts about the very existence of extraterrestrials.

We have seen a thousand movies that have some sort of space travel as the subject….but is it really possible?

Interstellar space travel. Fantasy of every five-year-old kid within us. Staple of science fiction serials. Boldly going where nobody has gone before in a really fantastic way. As we grow ever more advanced with our rockets and space probes, the question arises: could we ever hope to colonize the stars? Or, barring that far-flung dream, can we at least send space probes to alien planets, letting them tell us what they see?

The truth is that interstellar travel and exploration is technically possible. There’s no law of physics that outright forbids it. But that doesn’t necessarily make it easy, and it certainly doesn’t mean we’ll achieve it in our lifetimes, let alone this century. Interstellar space travel is a real pain in the neck.

If we venture out among the stars then we will have to live in off planet outposts among the stars……how will we deal with that?

Fifty years ago, a Princeton physicist named Gerard O’Neill asked his students to help him come up with a plan for setting up settlements in space.

Just a few years later, O’Neill published the resulting vision for freestanding space colonies as a book titled “The High Frontier” — a book that helped inspire Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos’ vision of having millions of people living and working in space.

Now the keepers of the “High Frontier” flame at the California-based Space Studies Institute are revisiting O’Neill’s original vision, with an eye toward updating it for the 21st century.

“The fact is, a lot has changed in the last half-century,” Edward Wright, a senior researcher at the Space Studies Institute, said today at the start of a two-day conference presented by the institute at Seattle’s Museum of Flight.

That sums up the news I have for now……

Now for the important stuff…..daylight and someone is ready for that venture out of the house…
