From The ‘Can’t Fix Stupid’ Files…..

Now that there is a Select Committee that is investigating the failed coup attempt by followers of that ‘other guy’…….the GOP leadership and members are trying to intimidate companies that cooperate with the investigation.

Some members have sent a letter to Yahoo threatening them if they turn over records to the committee……the problem is…….

Eleven Republican lawmakers sent a letter to Yahoo urging the company not to cooperate with a House investigation into the Jan. 6 insurrection, except they addressed it to a CEO who left more than four years ago.

The lawmakers, including Reps. Mo Brooks (of Alabama), Madison Cawthorn (N.C), Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.), Paul Gosar (Ariz.) and Lauren Boebert (Colo.), sent letters to 13 businesses telling them not to comply with requests from the House select committee investigating the events of Jan. 6.

The committee requested that certain phone and social media companies preserve the records of individuals not publicly identified as linked to the insurrection as well as those involved in the “Stop the Steal” rally. The House probe is attempting to determine who was actively involved in planning the violence aimed at overturning the presidential election. Some of the relevant subjects could involve Republican lawmakers, including some of those who sent the letters.

Almost daily the GOP proves the point of ‘Can’t Fix Stupid’……

But I ask….was this the GOP being stupid or was it paid for by companies to give them cover?

I trust corporation much less than I mistrust the politicians in the GOP…..

The House Select Committee on the events in and around 06 January will proceed without GOP participation. The Speaker refused to emit two members that were instrumental in the attempt to deny Biden the count and Minority leader McCarthy saw the jig was up and pulled all names for the Committee….

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy submitted his picks for the committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack Tuesday. But the Republican included two congressmen, Reps. Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio, who vocally supported objections to finishing the electoral vote count and formalizing President Biden’s election. After House Speaker Nancy Pelosi objected, McCarthy said he would pull the rest of his picks, too, NBC News reports. Pelosi was set to approve the other picks, including Texas’ Troy Nehls, who also supported objections on Jan. 6.

“How people voted on the president—affirming the election of Joe Biden—is not a criterion for service,” Pelosi said Tuesday, per the Hill. Pelosi’s picks for the committee include Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, who was one of the few GOP House members who voted to impeach Donald Trump. Pelosi can veto any of McCarthy’s picks she doesn’t like. She said the selection of Jordan and Banks would damage the “integrity of the investigation.” The committee is scheduled to meet July 27. McCarthy said that unless Pelosi seats all five of his nominees, ” Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts,” McCarthy said, per the AP.

Not to worry these GOP sycophants may not be featured in the Center Ring they will have ample time and opportunity to spew their hatred and chaos from the side rings.

The Hearing will not be as amusing without the mental midgets in the GOP…..but they are not going away.

The GOP theater of the absurd is alive and well….and should provide the media with endless reports on the antics of the sidelined clowns.

Does Anyone Remember Benghazi?

All the news of the back and forth of the newest Congressional Hearing…..Does anyone recall the Benghazi Hearings?

I know it is a lifetime ago in news years but it was a big deal….I remember the partisanship that flowed from that hearing…the vile accusations and of course the hypocrisy……

News has come out that some of the so-called evidence was doctored (I have only one source)……

Below is a reminder of just insidious leading Republicans became in their pursuit of doing everything possible to derail presumed Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Clinton’s chances of winning the 2016 election.

Take for instance the bombshell revelation that the Central Intelligence Agency reached out to Democrats serving on the Select Committee on Benghazi on Saturday, October 17, 2015 to confirm that Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) had altered documents provided to the committee by Hillary Clinton.

I was always against these hearings because they were a “witch hunt” (a popular term these days)….I was opposed because I thought they were asking the wrong questions….they should have asked why the ambassador went to a dangerous area for a meeting with such a small security force?

That was the question that needed an answer….but instead a game was played at the expense of the ambassador’s family.

That was pathetic, sad and extremely tacky.

I appears the the GOP was guilty of the very same things they accuse the Dems of doing…..maybe they should stop pointing fingers and do their job with integrity…I know a lot to ask be at least try.

You know how the people you know complain about the Congress and the way they are a do-nothing bunch…..well yesterday the GOP showed exactly why they are the laughing stock of the nation….

The House Judiciary Committee on Monday held the first of a series of hearings to examine the findings of former special counsel Robert Mueller’s report in order to determine if any further action, including an impeachment inquiry, is needed.

But the Republican members of the Judiciary Committee chose to spend their time during the hearing delivering petulant, conspiratorial rants instead of taking the hearing seriously or asking any questions that might be relevant to the facts of Mueller’s report.

Most of the Republicans’ childish comments were directed at John Dean, who served as White House counsel to former President Richard Nixon. Dean was brought into the hearing to put Trump’s alleged obstruction of justice into historical context, given that Dean pleaded guilty to helping Nixon obstruct justice during the Watergate investigation.

They tried to be cute with John Dean and Dean handed them their asses at every turn……

The GOP has proven to the clowns I have always said they were and I appreciate them making me a prophet……and yet as silly as they all were they will be re-elected at most turns….so maybe the clowns and buffoons are the voters after all.

All in all the GOP clowns gave me a good chuckle yesterday….for that I thank them …..especially this d/bag……Hawley of Missouri……

In a stunning move, the House Appropriations Committee today approved an amendment to the massive military spending bill offered by Rep. Barbara Lee (D – CA). The amendment, passed in a voice vote, and would repeal the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force (AUMF).

Ethics? We Don’t Need No Stinking Ethics!

Ethics?  Now there is a shot from the past……this country use to be proud of its ethics and its moral compass….but those days are long gone….yes this country use to have a moral compass….granted sat times it was a misplaced compass….but we tried to do what was right and honorable.

The term is derived from the Greek word ethos which can mean custom, habit, character or disposition.

Ethics covers the following dilemmas:

  • how to live a good life
  • our rights and responsibilities
  • the language of right and wrong
  • moral decisions – what is good and bad?

Our concepts of ethics have been derived from religions, philosophies and cultures. They infuse debates on topics like abortion, human rights and professional conduct.

Now that there is at least a modicum of understanding on the subject of ethics…..I shall move on…..

Among other things, the order imposed limitations on Administration officials, preventing them from working, for two years, on issues in government that they had previously advocated for as lobbyists, and mandating a five-year hiatus from lobbying after leaving government.

Trump said that his ethics rules were even more stringent than President Obama’s. Whether or not they actually are (and that’s debatable), members of the Trump Administration seem more than willing to disregard the ethics rules that they themselves created—and their behavior around the issue seems to suggest an alarmingly casual commitment to the rule of law.

The previous rule was that lobbyists couldn’t be made part of agencies that they had previously made cash money lobbying at. The new Trump rule is that lobbyists can now do exactly that, they just have to recuse themselves from any specific issue they had previously been paid to advocate for.

Except that at least ten of those lobbyists have already gotten waivers from even that requirement. Oh, and it appears that if members of the administration break the ethics rules Trump will simply give them a retroactive waiver afterward.

To some ethics means NOTHING and most of those are now sitting in the presidential circle.

Personally, I have NEVER thought the people in our government are particularly ethical….but at least they tried to be as though they did….now even that pretense is gone.
