Paper One.

As the next election creeps up on you I want to critique the party that will be trying to unseat the entrenched GOP from government.

This first part of my series is a re-post of something I wrote over 3 months ago spelling out the problems that the Dems will have…..

Democrats Are In Trouble

The Dems are in trouble for sure…..the problem is we all see it but the status quo cannot move past their love of cash and their need for the special interests in their fight to regain power.

Stay tuned Paper 2 will be forthcoming.

America’s First Foreign Policy Dilemma

College of Political Knowledge

I studied international relations in college and along with that I took several courses about the history of American foreign policy.

I thought I would try to get back into the swing of posting on our foreign policy history while the country prepares for the election in November.

After the War and the country coming together to form the United States of America what was the first dilemma the country had to face with our foreign policy….what did Washington do?

The first problem has been called the “Citizen Genet Affair”.

During 1793 and 1794, a series of explosive controversies divided followers of Hamilton and Jefferson. Washington’s administration confronted a French effort to entangle the United States in its war with England, armed rebellion in western Pennsylvania, Indian resistance, and the threat of war with Britain. These controversies intensified party spirit and increased voting along party lines in Congress.

In April 1793, “Citizen” Edmond Charles Genet (1763-1834), a French minister, arrived in the United States and passed out letters authorizing Americans to attack British commercial vessels and Spanish New Orleans. Washington regarded these actions as a clear violation of American neutrality and demanded that France recall its minister. The Genet affair did have an important effect–it intensified party feeling. From Vermont to South Carolina citizens organized Democratic-Republican clubs to celebrate the triumphs of the French Revolution. Hamilton and his supporters suspected that these societies really existed to stir up grass-roots opposition to the Washington administration.

American foreign policy in the 1790s was dominated by the events surrounding the French Revolution. Following the overthrow of the monarchy in 1792, the revolutionary French Government clashed with the monarchies of Spain and Great Britain. French policymakers needed the United States to help defend France’s colonies in the Caribbean – either as a neutral supplier or as a military ally, and so they dispatched Edmond Charles Genêt, an experienced diplomat, as minister to the United States. The French assigned Genêt several additional duties: to obtain advance payments on debts that the U.S. owed to France, to negotiate a commercial treaty between the United States and France, and to implement portions of the 1778 Franco-American treaty which allowed attacks on British merchant shipping using ships based in American ports. Genêt’s attempt to carry out his instructions would bring him into direct conflict with the U.S. Government.

Just a small note:  The State Department use to keep a data file with updates to our foreign policies and its history…..under the Obama admin it was decided to stop keeping the historical record….a shame in my opinion for it was an excellent source.

Here is the notice…..

This publication, “Milestones in the History of U.S. Foreign Relations,” has been retired. The text remains online for reference purposes, but it is no longer being maintained or expanded.

Why retire “Milestones”? In mid-2016 the Office of the Historian completed a review of its online offerings and concluded that extensive resources would be needed to revise and expand this publication to meet the Office’s standards for accuracy and comprehensiveness. At the same time, the events described in the “Milestones” essays are amply covered by numerous respected secondary sources. Rather than duplicate these efforts, the Office of the Historian has decided to focus its resources on areas where it is uniquely suited to make a contribution, such as coverage of the Department of State’s institutional history. In keeping with the publication’s new status, it can now be found under “More Resources” in the site-wide menu.

Those Damn Liberal Professors!

The weekend is a time for me to vent about stuff that I have neglected during the week…..and this draft is in response to something that I heard months ago……and I finally found a time and place to post it.

But first Word Press has informed me that today is my 12 year anniversary on WP…..actually I began on Blogger in 2006….but that does not count on the WP thing….so there 12 years and still going strong.

Now onto the meat of this post….

For a few decades people on the Right have been whining and yelling about all those liberal teachers that are destroying society by teaching socialism or at least Left leaning courses.

I get a chuckle at these “experts” on the University system and the teaching techniques….especially when most have never set a foot in a collegiate classroom.

To begin with the first two years of studies is pretty much the same for everyone and the course is taught from an “approved” textbook from the school administration.  If someone is to blame then the Board of Directors would be the one.

After that the student gets into the meat of his/her studies….again from “approved” textbooks…..and anything that would be considered to be taught is also “approved” by school administration….the student has a handful of elective course they can take and some of them maybe a bit “radical”.

I read a report from knowledge hating Right wing site, Campus Reform, about some course that were being taught in “liberal” schools….

In 2018, students at college and universities across the country had thousands of courses from which to choose. A handful of those classes, though, caught the attention of Campus Reform because of their politically biased nature.

In continuation of our 2018 Year In Review roundups, here are the five most politically biased courses of 2018.

https://www.campusreform.org/

Okay those courses do have political bias….but they are electives and the choice of the student…..no one forces them to take these courses….

The war of knowledge is being won…..why?

There is NO grand conspiracy in education…..An educated person would see how moronic these types of attacks truly are….

Then we have those that think that Americans have little shared experiences….

Jill Lepore, of Harvard and The New Yorker, has produced a provocative piece for Foreign Affairs, part of a special section to the magazine on the resurgence of nationalism. Lepore’s contribution enjoins us, as Foreign Affairs editor Gideon Rose puts it, “not to resist nationalism but to reappropriate it.” Indeed, Lepore calls for nothing less than “a new Americanism and a new American history.”

The problem, as Lepore sees it, is that around the 1970s, the country’s historians turned away from writing about the American nation because of an aversion to the evils of nationalism. The writing of history moved into a new era, focused on the experiences and cultures of national sub-groups and the promise of supranational globalization. But that left a big hole in the national consciousness. Lepore quotes historian Thomas Bender: “A history in common is fundamental to sustaining the affiliation that constitutes national subjects. Nations are, among other things, a collective agreement, partly coerced, to affirm a common history as the basis for a shared future.”

The Intellectual Assault On Our National Identity

All the Right’s attacks on the college education is just a way to try and silence those that see then saw the problems of this society.

I would not change a thing about my education…not even those teachers that I did not like…..I learned from them all….and so will anyone else.

Tomorrow will be news from Nevada……

Bernie—Can He?

#2 in a series

The College of Political Knowledge

My second look at the Dem candidates as the 2020 season gets kicked off….this time it is Bernie Sanders…..the candidate that has the media running in circles trying to trash him for the voter.

Bernie still has a lot of energy around his campaign…..more so than in 2016….the money is rolling in…..and the crowds are very large with each visit he makes.  And this is confounding the media at every turn.

Of course Trump and the GOP noise machine both professional and social media dolts are zeroing in onto the socialist thing…..trying to make Bernie not look so inviting.

Will Bernie’s beliefs make him not electable?

Sen. Bernie Sanders is a self-described socialist in a country where socialism is unpopular, and many observers are convinced that Sanders’s lead over President Donald Trump in head-to-head polling would vanish in the face of a red-scare campaign from Republicans.

It is difficult to know whether that’s true or not, but a recent message-testing experiment run by the progressive group Data for Progress at least calls that theory into question.

In their experiment, tagging Sanders as a socialist did not seem to undermine his campaign — something we’ve also seen over the years in Vermont. Sanders consistently does a bit better in elections for his Senate seat than you would expect from the state’s baseline party lean.

https://www.vox.com/2020/1/31/21113780/bernie-sanders-socialism-electability-primaries

No matter what the results of surveys show….the GOP disinformation masters will use all avenues to paint a terrible picture of Bernie…..most will not be true….most will be just Trump and his minions bullying anyone that has better ideas.

This is any interesting look at socialism…..if anyone is interested or you can keep spouting crap with no knowledge behind your words…..your choice…..https://www.counterpunch.org/2020/01/31/21st-century-socialism/

Most Americans do not realize that Democratic Socialism is not the run of the mill socialism…..it has no problem with markets, profits or wealth……that is a far cry from socialism.

But a closer look at Dems and socialism……

A new Gallup survey showing most Americans would not be willing to vote for a socialist also revealed that an overwhelming majority of Democratic voters said they would back a candidate like Sen. Bernie Sanders, who is leading in national polls.

More than three-quarters of Democratic voters surveyed—76%—told Gallup they would support a presidential candidate who identified as a socialist.

A large chunk of independent voters said they would back such a candidate, with 45% saying so, while only 17% of Republicans reported the same. Overall, 45% of 1,033 respondents said they would back a socialist in the poll, which had a margin of error of four percentage points.

https://www.commondreams.org/news/2020/02/11/more-75-democrats-would-support-socialist-president-gallup

Above info is contrary to what the MSM is saying…..but then they will be pushing any “corporatist” candidate that will help their owners keep the status quo.

Now that ought give the Right lunatics all the info they need to bash Bernie…..and the Dems….as if they needed facts to carry that out…….

Warren–Pro War

#1 in a series…..

College of Political KNowledge

The voting has started  and I would like to give a few thoughts about the so-called “front runners”….

I will start with Warren.

Most readers know I am antiwar and that I pick my candidates by their stands on foreign policy……

I also try to give my reader a broad look at the candidates no matter the party…….this time it is the Dems.

One of the so-called top tier candidates is Sen. Elizabeth Warren….we know what the MSM wants us to know so since they have been silent on the candidates and their war connections I did some research…..

Warren seems to have a pile of war mongers in her team……

Elizabeth Warren has promised “big, structural change” on a range of issues related to the economy. Warren has a plan for foreign policy, too, but it appears to be scarcely different from that of the last Democrat to occupy the White House.

A close examination of Warren’s newly assembled team of international advisors presents little hope of change from the military interventionism, regime change strong-arming and drone warfare that characterized the administration of President Barack Obama.

Earlier this month, Warren foreign policy aide Sasha Baker revealed a list of 34 “friends, colleagues, and advisors” that formed the foundation of the candidate’s foreign policy team. For the first time, observers were offered a clear window into what US foreign policy might look like under a Warren presidency.

Woke wonk Elizabeth Warren’s foreign policy team is stacked with pro-war swamp creatures

This one topic will prevent from voting for a candidate that is that deep into the M-IC.

No I am not that naive but I do believe that there is a candidate that is opposed to war and I am supporting her until she gets eliminated and then I will do some re-evaluation to find another candidate for the presidency of the United States.

I do a lot more work at picking a candidate than most voters…I refuse to settle and most Americans are fine with a candidate that is not offensive.

Whatever happened to critical intellectuals? – Al Jazeera English

That is a damn good question.  Critical thinking is a thing of the past….today it is all along “party lines”….little “outside the box” thinking left.  We have proven that the thinking of today’s political climate progress is just not possible.

In my studies at university I was taught about the classical definitions of conservatism and liberalism…….there is nothing like them in American politics of today……basically we are confronted with the same coin only different sides of neoliberalism.

Neoliberalism combined with the disappearance of critical intellectuals spell a bleak future for Western democracy.

Our society needs more critical thinking…….if it is to survive the crush of stupid that prevails in these days of…..whine and poses!

America’s Lost History

In case you are unaware I am a history nut………and I try to sneak in some historical info into many of my posts.  I have a degree in political history so I must educate whenever the need arises.

Today we celebrate the Declaration of Independence……so what better time to give a short history lesson?

We American’s think we know all about the early days of the republic……most of us do not have any idea of the situation in those early days….I am talking about the time between the two wars, 1780-1811.  We are taught about the presidents and some of the legislation in those times but there is so much more going on.

I will attempt to take you back to those days and fill in the blanks that our educational system seems to leave out of the curricula.

We are taught a little about the Louisiana Purchase,  Lewis and Clark or the Sedition Act or Burr killing Hamilton in a duel then we move on to the War of 1812…..but ask yourself….is that it for our history up to the newest war?  Three of the really big stories that we are seldom taught is the Barbary War,  the Burr Conspiracy and the establishment of the Republic of West Florida………

First the Barbary War………….

The year is 1801 and the pirates operating on the North Coast of Africa had been a pain in the US butt for years…..they had hijack ships and kidnap sailors to hold for ransom……Jefferson is elected and he felt like he had to do something……and his decision was the first time the US goes to war on its own (and we are still doing it)…….

The plan was to send an invasion force across the desert and attack the pacha of Tripoli (Libya) from the land while a naval force entered into the bay as a diversion…….

The trek to Tripoli was arduous and after a month of desert walking the Marines come to town.  1805 the Marines along with 500 mercenaries arrive and do battle…..and after a short battle the city was captured making it the first time that an American flag was raised in another country.

Some have written that this was Jefferson’s attempt to trade without paying to play…….the old “free trade” con.

Next on to the birth of a new republic…….

1806 September-October – Jefferson receives further information from a variety of sources in Pennsylvania and New York, including Generals William Eaton and James Wilkinson, that Aaron Burr is organizing a military expedition against Spanish possessions for the purpose of separating western territories from the United States. Eaton, a veteran of the recent Tripolitan War, claims that Burr tried to recruit him. Wilkinson, commander of United States military forces in the West, provides information about the conspiracy after having been implicated in it himself. He does not specifically name Burr.

November 27. Jefferson issues a proclamation declaring that “sundry persons, citizens of the U.S. or resident within the same, are conspiring & confederating…against the dominions of Spain” and requiring that all military and civil officials of all states and territories of the United States prevent “the carrying on such expedition or enterprise by all lawful means within their power.”

1807 – January 17. Aaron Burr is captured near New Orleans. He escapes but is recaptured and imprisoned. In April, Burr is charged with treason and tried in Richmond in a federal circuit court presided over by John Marshall.   Burr is acquitted. Later, with other charges pending, Burr escapes to England.

There are rumblings that all might not be as they appear ……that Jefferson had a hard on for Burr any way and this was a good excuse to get rid of him.

Then came the death of Meriwether Lewis of the famous team of Lewis and Clark that explored the newly acquired Louisiana Purchase.

The intrigue surrounding the famous explorer’s untimely death has spawned a cottage industry of books and articles, with experts from a variety of fields, including forensics and mental health, weighing in. Scholars have reconstructed lunar cycles to prove that the innkeeper’s wife couldn’t have seen what she said she saw that moonless night. Black powder pistols have been test-fired, forgeries claimed and mitochondrial DNA extracted from living relatives. Yet even now, precious little is known about the events of October 10, 1809, after Lewis – armed with several pistols, a rifle and a tomahawk – stopped at a log cabin lodging house known as Grinder’s Stand.

He and Clark had finished their expedition three years earlier; Lewis, who was by then a governor of the large swath of land that constituted the Upper Louisiana Territory, was on his way to Washington, D.C. to settle financial matters. By some accounts, Lewis arrived at the inn with servants; by others, he arrived alone. That night, Mrs. Grinder, the innkeeper’s wife, heard several shots. She later said she saw a wounded Lewis crawling around, begging for water, but was too afraid to help him. He died, apparently of bullet wounds to the head and abdomen, shortly before sunrise the next day. One of his traveling companions, who arrived later, buried him nearby.

Another part of our lost history…..events that we learn nothing about……and it does not end there………

Next is the Republic of West Florida………

In the early morning hours of September 23, 1810, a group of armed settlers led by Philemon Thomas attacked the Spanish fort at Baton Rouge. After a brief skirmish, the attackers took control of the fort. Three days later, the Republic of West Florida declared its independence.

Three days after West Florida completed the formation of its national government, the United States suddenly acted. On October 27, 1810, President James Madison issued a proclamation claiming the territory for the United States. This was done without the approval of Congress or through negotiation with either the Republic or Spain and its legality was the subject of serious question.

Madison’s actions were very controversial. He had sent military forces into the territory of a friendly nation without the consent of Congress. This was technically an act of war.

Many suspected that Madison had encouraged the revolution in West Florida. The fact that West Florida’s president Fulwar Skipwith had been American diplomat to France and political ally of both Jefferson and Madison seemed to indicate this was the case. In 1811, the western part of West Florida was attached to the Territory of Orleans, which became the State of Louisiana in 1812. The eastern sections became part of present day Mississippi and Alabama.

Just a couple of the events that history has forgotten……..all are full of deception, intrigue and adventure…..these are events that all Americans should be aware of and the historical significance each played in the forming of our nation.

Early American history is fascinating….once you get past the BS that is more about indoctrination than education.

America’s Second ‘Patriot Act’

College of Political Knowledge

Subject:  American History

Okay sports fans….how about a small history lesson?

With the ascendency of IS to the front pages of the papers we are once again looking hard at the Patriot Act and how to defend the ‘homeland’ from the crazies that want to do us harm.

Recently I wrote about the Patriot act because of all the debate and yelling to some…..some say we lost out rights and others say we need this to protect us from the bad guys that want to cause the country harm….I reminded my readers that the patriot act was not the first time that this country has gone about protecting its citizens from outside harm……in 1789 there was the Aliens & Seditions Act………check it out if your mind has left the room……http://lobotero.com/2014/04/28/the-1st-patriot-act/ ……….

After that act was beaten down in the Congress we thought all was well…..but then in1917,  basically because of the Russian Revolution that brought communists to the forethought, we passed yet another patriot-like act……..The Sedition Act of 1918…….and yet another Patriot Act, the second in our history……..

Thanx to about.com we have a look see……….

To punish unpatriotic speech during wartime. Rep. Percy Quin (D-MS), a co-sponsor of the bill, summarized its intent: “I want to curb these fellows,” he said, “who are disloyal in their hearts.” The Espionage Act of 1917, passed the previous year, had already criminalized speech that could have the effect of limiting military recruitment – but the Sedition Act broadened these penalties to include all criticism of the U.S. government. The intended targets were the leaders of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), referred to as “pernicious vermin” by Sedition Act co-sponsor Sen. Kenneth McKellar (D-TN), who tended to be both labor organizers and socialists. The language of the amendment was based on Montana’s notorious anti-sedition law, under which 79 people were convicted.

The Sedition Act amended the text of the Espionage Act of 1917 to include the following paragraphs:

Amendment to section 3 of the Espionage Act:

Whoever, when the United States is at war, shall willfully make or convey false reports or false statements with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the military or naval forces of the United States, or to promote the success of its enemies, or shall willfully make or convey false reports or false statements, or say or do anything except by way of bona fide and not disloyal advice to an investor or investors, with intent to obstruct the sale by the United States of bonds or other securities of the United States or the making of loans by or to the United States, and whoever when the United States is at war, shall willfully cause or attempt to cause, or incite or attempt to incite, insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, or refusal of duty, in the military or naval forces of the United States, or shall willfully obstruct or attempt to obstruct the recruiting or enlistment services of the United States, and whoever, when the United States is at war, shall willfully utter, print, write or publish any disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language about the form of government of the United States or the Constitution of the United States, or the military or naval forces of the United States, or the flag of the United States, or the uniform of the Army or Navy of the United States into contempt, scorn, contumely, or disrepute, or shall willfully utter, print, write, or publish any language intended to incite, provoke, or encourage resistance to the United States, or to promote the cause of its enemies, or shall willfully display the flag of any foreign enemy, or shall willfully by utterance, writing, printing, publication, or language spoken, urge, incite, or advocate any curtailment of production in this country of any thing or things, product or products, necessary or essential to the prosecution of the war in which the United States may be engaged, with intent by such curtailment to cripple or hinder the United States in the prosecution of war, and whoever shall willfully advocate, teach, defend, or suggest the doing of any of the acts or things in this section enumerated, and whoever shall by word or act support or favor the cause of any country with which the United States is at war or by word or act oppose the cause of the United States therein, shall be punished by a fine of not more than $10,000 or the imprisonment for not more than twenty years, or both: Provided, That any employee or official of the United States Government who commits any disloyal act or utters any unpatriotic or disloyal language, or who, in an abusive and violent manner criticizes the Army or Navy or the flag of the United States shall be at once dismissed from the service.

Passage of Legislation:

The Sedition Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a 293-1 margin. The only representative to vote against it was Rep. Meyer London of New York, who was himself a member of the Socialist Party and subsequently could have been prosecuted under its provisions himself due to his political beliefs. It passed the U.S. Senate by a much closer 46-28 margin, and was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson on May 16th, 1918.
There you have it….our 2nd patriot-like act…….can you imagine how many extreme twats would be in prison today if had stayed on the books……..most of the tea party and about 90% of the Right wing bloggers…….
Did our 2nd Patriot Act go too far?  Does today’s Patriot Act go far enough?
we could also say that Lincoln put into effect the second Patriot Act during the Civil War…….
On April 27, 1861, Lincoln suspended the Constitutional privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus along the military lines from Washington to Philadelphia.  Habeas Corpus is the personal right that goes back to English common law, predating our own Constitution.   In short, the Writ says that a person being arrested must be charged with a specific crime or he/she must be released.  It is a safeguard against unlawful seizures and violation of due process.

WAR DEPARTMENT,

I. By direction of the President of the United States, it is hereby ordered that until further order no citizen liable to be drafted into the militia shall be allowed to go to a foreign country. And all marshals, deputy marshals, and military officers of the United States are directed, and all police authorities, especially at the ports of the United States on the seaboard and on the frontier, are requested, to see that this order is faithfully carried into effect. And they are hereby authorized and directed to arrest and detain any person or persons about to depart from the United States in violation of this order, and report to Major L. C. Turner, judge-advocate at Washington City, for further instructions respecting the person or persons so arrested or detained.

II. Any person liable to draft who shall absent himself from his county or State before such draft is made will be arrested by any provost-marshal or other United States or State officer, wherever he may be found within the jurisdiction of the United States, and be conveyed to the nearest military post or depot and placed on military duty for the term of the draft; and the expenses of his own arrest and conveyance to such post or depot, and also the sum of $5, as a reward to the officer who shall make such arrest, shall be deducted from his pay.

III. The writ of habeas corpus is hereby suspended in respect to all persons so arrested and detained, and in respect to all persons arrested for disloyal practices.

EDWIN M. STANTON,  Secretary of War.

Under Lincoln it was not foreign problems that he was worried about….NO it was American citizens……somethings NEVER change.

You just thought that the US was entering into virgin territory with Bush’s Patriot Act…….not so….we have a long list to times that the president acted to take away the rights of American citizens……Ain’t life Grand?

Who Was Our 1st President?

College of Political Knowledge

Subject:  American History

Today is 17 February or the federal holiday known as President’s Day…….it was once called Washington’s birthday…actually Washington’s birthday is the 22nd…… but since another president had a birthday the same month the government decided it was to be called President’s Day in 1971………

We are all familiar with this question from our civics and/or American History classes, right?  And we all answered with the popular answer…….George Washington.  Remember?  But how accurate is that standard answer?

To answer the question….not very accurate, at all.

Let’s dash back in history for a moment…..the year is 1776 and the Continental Congress has jjusr given Jefferson (a bone of contention with me) the task of writing the Declaration of Independence….when the task was completed and the document agreed to….we became the United States of America and at this time our ruling body was the Continental Congress and president of the Congress was John Hancock and as head of the Congress he became the 1st president of the US by default…..

Now the war with mother England rages on….and on….and in 1781 the colonies came up with a document for the governing of the new nation and it was called the Articles of Confederation………..and by now Hancock had stepped down as president of the Congress and Huntington assumed the leadership in 1779.  Once again as president of the Congress at the time of the signing of the Articles of Confederation this made him, by default, the president of the US…..where he remained until he had to resign because of ill health…in 1781……..that is president #2.

With the retirement of Huntington one John  Hanson became the president of the Congress in 1781…..but only after several others had been elected to the position but refused to serve for whatever reason they could think of at the time.  This making him the 3rd president of the United States of America.

And now we come to the rest of the story…..It is true the George Washington, the hero of so many battles, was our first president….our first ELECTED president…..and the first person to work at the job 24/7 365 days………..let us teach truth and accuracy not popular myth……

If you would like more info…..

What Happened To Democracy?

Let’s play politics today……there is plenty of chatter but little dialog…….

There is a lot going on in this country, the good old US of A, you know that shining light of democracy that we love to point to as the cure for all ails?

Before I go any further….please if you want to attack this post do NOT use the BS of “we are not a democratic country but rather a republic and a representative republic at that…….if you believe this then everyone needs to cease the use of the words “democracy” and “democratic”  (notice that is a small “D”)….it is that simple…..cannot have both no matter how much one desires.

One of the main tenets of a democracy is the free and unhindered elections and the right to vote.  In the last years there seems to be a push to make voting more difficult……I am not talking about the elimination of the right just that there are laws that make it a wee bit more difficult to do so……another thing….please do not use the voter ID thing as a defense……that has nothing to do with what I am writing.

This is what I am writing about……..

The Presidential Commission on Election Administration has released its report and recommendations, and reasonable people everywhere rejoice. The bipartisan commission was formed by Barack Obama following the 2012 election, which was a bit of an embarrassment for a nation that considers itself something of a model democracy. Across the country (but mainly in urban areas and black and Latino neighborhoods), Election Day featured hours-long lines, broken voting machines, inaccurate voter rolls and confusing ballots.

“The Editors” of Bloomberg View declare the report “so resolutely practical that it’s hard to imagine its recommendations stirring much debate, much less controversy.” (They acknowledge that “not all politicians want to make it easier for Americans to vote,” but they fail to specify that that’s more or less part of the Republican Party platform.) Jeffrey Toobin calls it “an unexpectedly bold document.”

The commission’s key recommendations are eminently reasonable: Expand online voter registration, expand early voting, improve and modernize voting machines, and improve efficiency and alleviate wait times at polling places with better training and techniques that have been proven to work elsewhere. Everyone should be able to support all of this, and, best of all, the commission’s recommendations don’t require any federal action at all. They just need to be voluntarily implemented by state and local officials. And how hard could it be to convince state and local officials to make voting easier?

Okay, for Obama haters this will be a point of contention…….only because it is a presidential report….which is just silly……I have read many reports from many states and most of them have some sort of voting “reform” and most of them either want to close polling stations or lessen early voting or shorten the hours or……I am sure you get my drift here.  None of these have anything to do with voter fraud…….they are attacks on the rights of citizens to vote……..PERIOD!

With this assault on our democratic right there is an idea that has more than a little merit……that is a new movement for Americans to embrace….a pro-democracy movement……

What would this movement detail?

One–get rid of cash!  Citizen’s united must be repealed or blown up or whatever we have to do to rid the process of all that cash….it is destroying what little integrity we had……

Two–open up the voting process……..

Three–Prosecute ANY breeches in ethics!…..and that means even minor breeches.  (Think Vitter, Ensign and the coke dude from last week)

Four–Make elected officials work at their job, not at making contacts……(force to work at least 150 days a session)

Five–If you truly want a democracy then go to a direct democracy where the people are involved at almost every stage…..

Without substantial change…..nothing will be repaired…the country will stay in the grips of those that we all profess that we dislike……as long as the money remains….so will be the buying of election….as long as the Congress works less than 150 days a year then no substantial laws will be enacted…..obstructionism will be the rule of the day……as long as the voter is being taken out of the equation there can be NO democracy and less representation…….

So ask yourself…..what has happened to our democracy?
