Donny has crapped up this nation and we have at least 2 more years of his stupidity….but on the outside chance that we can send this pasty asshole to Florida we will have a mountain of work to do….that is those gutless twats in DC will have a mountain of work that will need doing.

I think that through Putin, Trump has depleted your weapons stock and made enemies of old allies so that Putin can move on Europe with no fear of outside interference. I fear we’re on the brink of WW111 and the weapons manufacturers are laughing their socks off.

My feeling is that the US will go back to exactly how it was before Trump won the election for the second time. Be wary of Proportional Representation as a voting system. That has been a mess in many countries, including Italy and Northern Ireland, as governments in those systems usually end up having to make shaky ‘alliances’ with other parties that rarely last the term of a parliament.

Rob Richie’s advocacy for democratic reforms is most commendable. The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, Ranked Choice Voting, and Proportional Representation moves are a good start and are certainly making strides; however, their ultimate success depends upon proceeding through a functional democracy which no longer exists in the U.S. It’s a CATCH-22 scenario. How can the people improve a democratic system which isn’t democratic?
Authoritarian interests in the economic (i.e. corporatization) and political establishment (i.e. Republicans and Democrats) have already captured the biggest obstacles to reform – the U.S. Supreme Court, the shadow government, the halls of Congress, and the political machinery in most states. It will oppose democratization at all costs. We must first cutoff the money supply which sustains it.
This year’s ballot initiative in Montana (I‑194), which would prohibit corporate and dark money spending in elections and in political operations, is the right kind of strategy. Starve the beast, and the beast dies. It’s that simple. Furthermore, such state initiatives have the added advantage of attracting more bipartisan support than the democratic reforms detailed by Mr. Richie. Montana is a deep-red Republican state. We will never be able to defeat America’s corrupt establishment through one party alone. We must rally all Americans around that which unites us. If we are successful, we can return to arguing about less important issues at our leisure.
