Readers going to Daily Agitator has fallen off so I re-post this to hopefully generate some interest in my secondary blog.
AS the way that our political system is functioning is with 2 parties that are basically the same party just with minor differences but I ask why they are needed.
I would be interested in just what you think about the party system as it is today.

I did read the Agitator but didn’t comment because I wasn’t sure what to say exactly.
Why they exist seems obvious to me. Like minded people will tend to gather together into groups no matter what the reason might be, whether it’s, oh, model railroad clubs or curling clubs or, yes, political parties. And once they begin gathering into groups, they naturally begin to look at ways of making their particular group larger and more popular, and in the case of political organizations, more successful in elections. I don’t see how it can be avoided. It’s basic human nature. We are, in some ways, herd animals, I guess.
And because we are human beings, there are always going to be a significant number of us who are willing to lie, cheat, steal, blackmail, extort, etc. to advance our own agendas and the agendas of the groups we belong to. And it is a matter of historical record that political parties are more than willing to engage in unethical behavior in order to get their candidates into office.
In an ideal world there would be laws and rules to curb at least the most egregious of these abuses, of course. But we don’t live in an ideal world. In the one we live in, these very same political parties are the ones who write the rules and laws and are in charge of enforcing the few laws we have left. So we end up with the situation we have today where the rules we do have are ineffective and even those few rules are chipped away at by the government or simply ignored because it is in the best interest of both/all politial parties to undermine the what few laws we do have.
Eventually the situation becomes so bad that enough people become angry enough to elect more independent reform candidates and for a time, a short time, some attempt will be made to rein in the more outrageous abuses of the system. But sooner rather than later those efforts will fall by the wayside and we end up back in the same situation we were in before.
