Nursing is no longer considered a “professional” degree under the Trump administration. The change, along with the elimination of a longstanding loan program for graduate and professional students, has sparked outrage from several nursing organizations.
As part of the U.S. Department of Education’s new federal student loan-related changes under President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” nursing has been excluded from the group of programs that are considered “professional” degrees, and a loan program for graduate students has been marked for elimination.
The changes have created new fears about how students, and particularly students seeking post-baccalaureate nursing degrees, will finance their education — and several organizations have already voiced their disapproval and concern at the updates.
In early November, the department made several alterations that impact federal student loans, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Education. “In total, negotiators reviewed and agreed to 17 regulatory provisions,” per the release, including a “new and simplified” Repayment Assistance Plan and “the definition of a professional student.”
This policy is stupid.

Removing nursing from its professional status devalues the great work they do, and the hard training to get there. It will also damage future recruitment, and leaves the way open for anyone to just pitch up and call themselves a ‘nurse’. This administration is dismantling your country piece by piece, like taking a house apart brick by brick.

She’s not there to enhance dept of ed. She’s there to dissolve it and eliminate redundancies in the meantime. We have 50 states and each one has a dept of ed so if already have 50, why fed dept ed ? If each state has just 60 counties that’s 60 x 50 = 3,000 more dept of eds. Cities and municipalities within counties also have local school boards so that’s a few dozen more x each county x ea
state = tons ov’em more. Then each of these thousands depts of eds must maintain an office and staff for the fed dept of ed = another few thousand more = I can’t count this high. I’ve found the best depts of ed are the PTA’s of each school. It’s that simple and max effective. Teacher unions do nothing for teachers or education for they seek to destroy and replace the nuclear families, to hate America, promote alternative genders and sex change surgeries, block parental input, and keep students several levels behind each grade level in basic skills 3 R’s – read, rite, rithmetic. Most schools have so much paperwork they must ignore mountains of fed stuff anyway if they can. Then there’s scool history textbooks with inclusion and they are now 1,400 pages. If I could cover just 200 in the year, that was a very admirable accomplishment.
I disagree with just about every word. There should be a national curriculum so that ALL Americans learn the same history not bloated BS that only makes us look so much better than we are. chuq
I agree there should be a degree of national curriculum but curriculum becomes indoctrination for agendas of the most bizzare nature in many instances not the 3 R’s and not a celebration America’s efforts for progress and improvement. Would you care to have “educators” from the planet California design the curriculum ? How about a curriculum that promotes shooting cops ? We can’t even have a national law enforcement goal that supports locking up drug traffickers, woman and child sex traffickers and murderers. Law enforcerment and safety enhancement providers are portrayed as the enemey as the criminals are portrayed as the victims and real victims of crime seem to be ignored as victims. I don’t think a national curriculum would beany better cleansed from these infectious horrors that are our present day reality. School to work skill should be the results of education like nursing, bookkeeping, accounting, mechanics, agriculture and bring back the shops and crafts. Teens don’t make things any more. They press buttons on texting endeavors.
I do not think that true professionals would indoctrinate in say history or math or english….if California teaches a unbiased course of studies then I would be okay with them….where would you find a study about shooting cops? Education is about learning at least to me not some BS about social issues that are only in the minds of some. chuq

Aree with the matter you find very important.
While every single department in the government could have used some tightening up and refocusing of priorities, the dismantling of this department is so sad and offensive. We are making our young kids less intelligent by the day, and this will only speed that up…when you consider that the southern, red states score the lowest in education, he seemingly is happy to dumb down his voting base so they won’t question the shocking amount of corruption.
That is the GOP’s plan keep these people stupid and pliable….it must be working look at who they support….chuq
