American Crisis–2025 Edition

Back in the dark days of the American Revolution things were not going well and the forgotten founder took it upon himself to make a change….and he, Thomas Paine, wrote the American Crisis.

His pamphlet opens with some strong words….

THESE are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value. Heaven knows how to put a proper price upon its goods; and it would be strange indeed if so celestial an article as FREEDOM should not be highly rated. Britain, with an army to enforce her tyranny, has declared that she has a right (not only to TAX) but “to BIND us in ALL CASES WHATSOEVER” and if being bound in that manner, is not slavery, then is there not such a thing as slavery upon earth.

Fast forward to today and the anger, division, hatred, etc is making our way of life in crisis….and the schism between the people is getting wider by the speech.

The people are starting to believe that democracy is not working….

Pessimists appear to outnumber optimists these days, with a new poll showing most Americans believe democracy “is not working,” among several other jarring findings.

The new Quinnipiac University Poll released on Tuesday found 53% of citizens believe American democracy is not working right now, compared to 41% of Americans who believe the system is going fine.

Those on the left, unsurprisingly, were much more likely to say the figurative house is burning down, with 74% of polled Democrats saying “the system of democracy in the United States is not working”; only 22% of Republicans said it is not working, and 74% of GOP voters said there is no problem at all.

This division is nearing to zone where it will be difficult to repair…..the political hatred is at boil….

Tune into American politics today, and you’ll hear something far more sinister than simple disagreement. The language has escalated: political parties trash talk each other—blaming rival parties for policy failures or even for causing incidents with national implications.

And reducing polarization and “partisan animosity”—the distrust and hatred of the other party—is remarkably difficult, according to a new study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences evaluating past attempts.

“As long as political and media systems reward outrage with votes and viewership—stoking division—any individual-level effort to depolarize is up against a powerful, unending tide,” says senior author Sean Westwood, an associate professor of government at Dartmouth and director of the Lab.

“This isn’t a problem that can be fixed at the grassroots level alone.”

It is getting to the point where Americans are starting to believe that violence could be inevitable….

Almost 80 percent of Americans believe the U.S. is in crisis and more than half are concerned that political violence will worsen in the coming years, a new poll has found.

In the wake of recent seismic events, including the assassination of MAGA commentator Charlie Kirk, a poll by Quinnipiac University showed 79 percent of voters agreed that the country was “in political crisis,” while 18 percent said it was not.

Along party lines, 93 percent of Democrats agreed, as did 60 percent of Republicans.

“The Kirk assassination lays bare raw, bipartisan concerns about where the country is headed,” said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.

In addition to the perceived political crisis, the poll also showed that an overwhelming majority, 71 percent, considered politically motivated violence a “very serious problem” in the U.S., with 22 percent believing it to be a “somewhat serious problem.”

The survey noted a jump from a previous Quinnipiac University poll on June 26, when 54 percent thought politically motivated violence was a very serious problem, and 37 percent thought it was a somewhat serious problem.

So is political violence acceptable?

A new poll from YouGov has found that 20 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds, commonly known as Generation Z, think that political violence is sometimes justified.

Respondents were surveyed on September 11, a day after right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk was shot and killed at Utah Valley University. A total of 2643 US adults were interviewed as part of the study.

The findings mean that members of Gen Z are more in favor of political violence than any other group.

Millennials were the second-largest group, with 14 percent of people aged 30-49 stating it could sometimes be justified.

Meanwhile, just 8 percent of 45-64-year-olds and 3 percent of people aged over 65 said that political violence was sometimes acceptable.

What does this say about the youth of this country?

NO seriously what does this mean for our country and system as a whole?

And the beat goes on……America needs a kick in the ass just as it did back during the Revolution…..either come together or lose everything we have worked for for a couple hundred years.

I will do my part and I ask anyone worried about our country do the same….we can make a difference if we try.

  1. Can Americans really not see that Kirk’s killing was an inside job? You only have to see how his wife has acted since to realise that she knew it was going to happen. It deflected nicely from the issue of the Epstein Files’, created the idea of a shooting enemy in ‘Antifa’, and solidified the MAGA cult followers’ hatred of the other side.

    1. It did seem, in retrospect, to be an extreme example of a little known rabble rouser being elevated swiftly to sainthood. And when you think about it, there was Donnie, comforting the widow…frankly I had never heard of Kirk, and the bits I saw of his speechifying really didn’t impress me all that much. And yet there it is, and even the magic bullet with the mysterious “symbols” on it.
