The BLITZ Is On!

****Warning this post may offend the ‘righteous’ but I take the Constitution seriously and for that reason I felt I had to re-post this piece****

As I stated I firmly believe that the first amendment is being violated by d/bags in the states by mandating religious issues in our schools.

This is a re-post from my blog that aggravates as much as possible.

Christian Bullshit At Its Best

All this is a concerted effort by christian nationalist to drive home their thoughts of supremacy.

Ever hear of Project Blitz?

Probably not so let me introduce you….

Project Blitz….

The guide instructs Christian nationalists to work in three phases.

First, they are supposed to pass bills that are expected to receive the least opposition. These “religious heritage” bills encourage or force public schools to offer Bible classes and display “In God We Trust,” as well as mandate the creation of “In God We Trust” license plates.

This first seemingly innocuous phase is meant to build enough momentum to pass “religious history and freedom” bills, which purport that America was, is, and will always be a Christian nation. Examples include “Year of the Bible” and “Christian Heritage Week” bills.

After grabbing this “low hanging fruit,” Christian nationalists move on to more dangerous bills that undermine equality by allowing discrimination in child welfare and religious refusals in health care.

There is so much more….read on…..

https://www.blitzwatch.org/

These religious zealots are doing what they accused Muslims of wanting to do 15 years ago…..any mandate on any religion is not in accordance with the Constitution….you can justify it any way we choose but the fact is it is a violation of our rights.

Someone needs to step up,besides the ACLU, and bring these policies down around the ears of the d/bags that pretend to be ‘christian’.

Enough said!

Through The Fog Of War

The US has always been a keen practitioner of war, if not starting war then instigating then supplying the conflict….but let’s talk about the last 30 years….from Iraq to the Balkans back to Iraq and now Ukraine and Gaza….we could go further back….since the end of WW2 the US has been involved in what some call ‘forever war’.

In most of that time the US has totally ignored alternative answers to international conflicts.

The fog of war makes it difficult for most people to think beyond the here and now. In the wake of the chaotic U.S. exit from Afghanistan in August 2021, policymakers, the military and others focused on the bungling of the singular operation — the withdrawal — and not the overall feasibility or desirability of U.S. foreign policy.

Any window for broader introspection closed with the Russian government’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, which led to renewed calls for American involvement abroad. The following year, in October 2023, Hamas attacked Israel. Most recently, the governments of Israel and Iran have engaged in tit-for-tat military strikes.

These conflicts have spawned constant arguments about aid and other involvement. Concerns over China, North Korea and other unfriendly regimes generate further debate about how U.S. policymakers should respond to specific scenarios.

Although these conversations are relevant, they highlight an important blind spot in foreign policy. It is exceptionally difficult for many to rise above the fog of war and look at the big picture. But they must do so, or else we will remain mired in a myopic and continuous cycle of war-making, moving from one crisis to the next.

Our never-ending proactive foreign policy has normalized war-making, with its significant costs and brutal realities. When war and foreign intervention are treated as immutable facts of life, our focus shifts from understanding their realities and causes to their violent execution. We treat the symptom while ignoring the disease that caused it.

Writing in the late 19th century, Argentine political theorist John Baptist Alberdi noted that war legitimizes crimes such as robbery, murder, arson and destruction on a massive scale. These activities, outlawed and viewed as wrong throughout the world, become business as usual.

“War sanctions [these crimes],” he wrote, “and converts them into just and lawful acts…a horrible and sacrilegious perversion of sense, which is a sarcasm on civilization.”

What Alberdi asked us to realize is that our myopic focus on today’s conflict requires us to think in simple dichotomies — “good” and “bad,” or “us” versus “them” — while neglecting the true horrors of the enterprise of war itself. The treatment of war as something unavoidable presumes from the start that the atrocities of war cannot be avoided.

In the fog of forever war, the US no longer recognizes alternatives

How much longer can the US finance war after war?

When faced with the brutal actions of others, proponents of war say, “What are we to do other than use force in response to force?” One simple but neglected answer is to not respond with violence, precisely because we recognize the inherent savagery of the war-making enterprise.

The typical reaction to this answer is that it is naive. But that reaction is itself naive. How confident can we be that, in all cases of war-making, all other feasible, nonviolent means of navigating conflicts have been exhausted, leaving war as the only remaining option? Are we confident that there are clear and attainable objectives with a high likelihood of success; that the wide range of unintended consequences have been fully considered?

There are always alternatives….always.

This from a country that values the ‘center road’ but apparently not in war….it is all out without compromise.

With each election there should be a chance of a peaceful world but instead we elect people that want these wars to go on forever and help the industry thrive.

Silly notions.

Have You Heard It All?

Well here is one for you to add to that list…..

A new vending machine…..it dispenses ammo for rifle, pistol and shotgun.

And no I am not making this shit up!

Gun owners in three US states can now buy bullets from vending machines in grocery shops, after a company launched automated kiosks to make ammunition “more available”.

Some shops in Alabama, Oklahoma and Texas now allow customers to scan their ID on a device similar to a drinks vending machine, and walk away with rounds for their weapons.

American Rounds, the company that manufactures the machines, says they are as easy to use as an ATM.

“Our automated ammo dispensers are accessible 24/7, ensuring that you can buy ammunition on your own schedule, free from the constraints of store hours and long lines,” it says on its website.

The machines use “built-in AI technology, card scanning capability and facial recognition software” to match a buyer’s ID to their face and ensure they are over 18 years old.

Customers select the ammunition they would like to buy on a touchscreen, scan their ID and collect it from a hole in the bottom of the machine.

The company says it will continue the roll out of the devices in states where hunting is popular, including Louisiana and Colorado.

A promotional video for the machines shows a customer moving through a shop using the vending machines on a motorised wheelchair, before raising her fist in the air and shouting: “It’s ammo? Whoo!”

Alabama has the fourth-highest rate of gun deaths in the US, according to the latest data from the National Center for Health Statistics.

In 2022, there were 25.5 deaths from firearms in the state per 100,000 people, with a total of 1,278 fatalities.

The Biden administration has declared gun safety to be a public health crisis, and is pushing states to adopt tougher laws on firearm ownership.

Grant Magers, the American Rounds CEO, said the company had received more than 200 requests to install the machines and that number was “growing daily”.

He told Newsweek that the company supported “law-abiding, responsible gun ownership”.

The machines are legal and store records of the transactions are kept to comply with regulations in some states.

(telegraph.co.uk)

I know there will be a wealth of opinions on this deal….

But I ask if this is a good idea.

What could be next?

Will there soon be a vending machine to buy your favorite firearm?

This is crazy….I mean what could go wrong?

The EU’s “Freedom Caucus”?

First let me explain the “Freedom Caucus” in the US House of Representatives…..

The caucus is positioned right-wing to far-right on the political spectrum. The group takes hardline conservative positions and favors social conservatism and small government, along with right-wing populist beliefs such as opposition to immigration reform. The group sought dozens of times to repeal the Affordable Care Act Established as a more conservative alternative to the Republican Study Committee, the group initially emphasized fiscal conservatism and concerns about House rules, favoring budget cuts and a decentralization of power within the House of Representatives.

(wikipedia)

It appears that the parliament of the European Union has its own version of this far Right clusterf*ck…..headed by Hungary’s Orban…..and it is expanding….

The Party for Freedom (PVV), a Dutch far-right nationalist party, will join a new alliance of similarly like-minded parties in the European Parliament, its leader said.

Dubbed the Patriots for Europe, the alliance was recently formed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

“We are PVV patriots, we love our nation. Strong and sovereign. Resisting illegal immigration. We defend peace and freedom. And support Ukraine. We protect our Judeo-Christian heritage. And our families,” wrote PVV leader Geert Wilders on X on Friday evening.

“We want to combine forces in the EP and will proudly join Patriots For Europe!”

Wilders’ party won the parliamentary elections in the Netherlands last November. The PVV is the largest party in the new four-way right-wing coalition that was sworn in on Tuesday. Dick Schoof, the former head of the Dutch intelligence service, leads it as prime minister.

In June’s elections for the European Parliament, the PVV won six seats.

Orbán’s Fidesz party, Austria’s far-right Freedom Party and the populist Czech ANO party were the first members the Patriots for Europe alliance when it was announced late last month.

Spain’s far-right Vox and the Portuguese far-right party Chega also recently said they would join.

With Wilders’ announcement, the new group would have MEPs from six countries – membership of MEPs from at least seven countries is required for group status in the European Parliament.

So far, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) has declined to join.

(nordot.app)

This is just a way for the far Right to throw a wrench into the workings of the EU.

The Freedom Caucus has about 41 members on the House (numbers are keep secret for some reason)….will these members align themselves with this up-start in the EU?

Will these people be as obstructive as the House version?

All this is scary….the rise of the Far Right cannot be good for any country.

On an upside I see the elections in France has stomped on the LePen and her group….

France’s populist, anti-immigration party appears to have been unable to repeat its success in the first round of the legislative election, with the first projections after polls closed Sunday showing left-wing and centrist parties blocking the National Rally from taking power. The final results of the runoff may vary, and could leave France in gridlock, with no party winning a majority, the Washington Post reports. Weeks of negotiations would be the next step. Just after the first projections were released, Jean-Luc Mélenchon of the far-left France Unbowed called for centrist President Emmanuel Macron to invite the bloc to form a government. Macron’s office said those decisions will wait a bit.

Voters seem to have responded to calls to prevent France from having its first far-right government since World War II. That would mean Macron’s gamble in calling the election paid off, though not enough to keep him in office. “As his minority government was set to lose political support while facing a rising far right, he [counterintuitively] decided to accelerate that process as the best antidote against its full realization,” said Alberto Alemanno, a professor of European Union law in Paris. “Today’s electoral results proved him right.” A government statement Sunday said Macron “will ensure that the sovereign choice of the French people is respected,” per CNN.

At least French voters are showing some good sense……maybe the American voter will follow in their shoes.

The world needs to stop this Far Right rise as soon as possible….for the sake of the planet.

Sneezing, Right?

It is Sunday again and I hope everyone is having a good and safe 4th weekend…..and as usual I had to find something that would keep with my tradition of asking questions that need asking but few ask them.

A few months back I had a rib injury and the most pain I experienced was when I had to sneeze….fact it while my bib is better I still have some pain when I sneeze.

Every time I sneeze and have that rush of pain I think just how much worse could a sneeze be?

Well I had to ask….

A man in Florida had such an epic sneeze that he pushed his intestines outside his body, a vivid scenario that makes the phrase “spilling your guts” horrifically literal.

The 63-year-old man, who just had staples taken out from a surgical incision, was having breakfast with his wife at a diner when he sneezed hard and coughed, according to a study published in the American Journal of Medical Case Reports, which goes into excruciating detail about the gruesome incident.

Immediately upon feeling pain and wetness in his lower abdomen, the man looked down to see “several loops of pink bowel protruding from his recent surgical site.”

Despite the shock and horror he may have been experiencing, the man had enough forbearance to cover up his protruding intestines and waived the idea of driving himself to the hospital in case moving around would injure him more.

His wife then called for an ambulance. First responders noted that he had a three-inch “vertical laceration with ‘large amounts of bowel’ protruding through it,” with very little bleeding.

https://futurism.com/neoscope/man-sneezes-intestines-burst

After that I thought how much worse could a sneeze be?

Since I try to be an FYI on Sundays I had to find out….

Sneezing is normally a protective mechanism that keeps potentially harmful things – such as dust, bacteria and viruses – out of our respiratory system. The process is controlled by the so-called “sneezing centre” in the brain’s medulla (which governs autonomic functions, including breathing). It’s activated by the presence of irritants in the lining of the nose and airways, which send impulses to the centre.

The response is a closing of your eyes, throat and mouth while your chest muscles contract – compressing your lungs and driving air out of your respiratory system. This forces whatever triggered the response “out” of your system at an impressive speed – up to 15.9m/s (35mph) in some cases.

But despite the benefits of a good sneeze, it can sometimes come with a greater risk of injury than many might realise.

For instance, violent sneezing can cause the lung to herniate through the intercostal muscles between the ribs – usually at a point of weakness. This is typically a result of morbid obesity, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes or smoking.

There are also cases of sneezing tearing the delicate tissues of the lungs. This happens when the higher pressure air deep in the lungs escapes into the space between the chest and the lung, causing this air to compress the lung on one or both sides of the chest.

Damn!

Now you know just how dangerous a sneeze can be…..please be careful.

Enjoy the rest of your day and as always….Be Well and Be Safe….

From The “Can’t Fix Stupid” Files

We just celebrated the signing of the DoI and as usual there was fireworks and more fireworks….every idiot with an extra $5 had to set some off for some unknown reason and every year I wait to see how many have done harm to their bodies by being stupid with something this dangerous.

I found the champ of Stupid!

The wife of a man who died after placing a lit firework on top of his head says she thought her husband was ‘showboating’ before realising he’d made a deadly mistake.

Allen Ray McGrew, 41, was celebrating 4 July with his family, and was also toasting his son Hunter’s engagement.

Allen’s wife, Paige McGrew, told The Post and Courier: “Allen loved this holiday. He was a patriot, he was proud of his son and he was excited to have a new daughter-in-law. He was living his best life last night.”

She added that Allen ‘didn’t drink regularly’, and the party was to be his last blow-out before staying off the booze for a while.

Around 10.30pm, Paige noticed her husband – who was wearing a stars and stripes Uncle Sam outfit for the occasion – was ‘holding this firework over his top hat’.

She thought her husband was ‘just showboating before he set it on the ground’ but then realized ‘he had already lit it’ and despite her warnings, the firework erupted.

Following that, Allen then collapsed, according to Dorchester County Sheriff’s department, before he was pronounced dead at the scene at 11.10pm.

Coroners say his cause of death is the result of ‘massive head injuries’ which would’ve killed him immediately.

Paige said of her husband: “He was a genuine, good person and he loved life. He worked hard and he played hard.”

The risks associated with fireworks is a worrying one, with Cal Fire’s Santa Clara Unit, Chelsea Burkett, recently warning residents not to set off fireworks themselves because of the danger they pose – such as starting fires.

She told NBC Bay Area: “It happens every year. We see it often and we strongly encourage residents to let the professionals do the show.”

Meanwhile, Medical director of the Regional Burn Center at Valley Medical Center, Dr Cliff Sheckter, warned illegal fireworks can be even more dangerous.

He said: “These are mortars, small pieces of dynamite. These can and will blow off your fingers and your hands. We see every year.

“Unfortunately, these types of injuries are not reparable in most circumstances and that obviously is life-altering.”

Moral of the story….fireworks and booze do not mix well.

IST Saturday News Dump–06Jul24

Another Saturday and yet another news dump….news that can amaze and entertain….

Summer and heat here in the South…..my garden is taking a hit from the extreme 100+ temps……my figs are starting to come in so that means figs, feta, honey and walnuts for snacks…..great flavors.

First before I start there are a few gnawing questions….

When did poker become a sport?

Why do so many women want to be blonde?

It is the 4th weekend and families will be traveling and doing stuff together like a visit to a museum….well if in Arizona then try this one….it is called a ‘poozeum’

One way to tell how a Tyrannosaurus rex digested food is to look at its poop. Bone fragments in a piece of fossilized excrement at a new museum in northern Arizona—aptly called the Poozeum—are among the tinier bits of evidence that indicate T. rex wasn’t much of a chewer, but rather swallowed whole chunks of prey. The sample is one of more than 7,000 on display at the museum that opened in May in Williams, a town known for its Wild West shows along Route 66, wildlife attractions, and a railway to Grand Canyon National Park.

The Poozeum sign features a bright green T. rex cartoon sitting on a toilet to grab attention from the buzzing neon lights and muffled 1950s music emanating from other businesses, reports the AP. Inside, display cases filled with coprolites—fossilized feces from animals that lived millions of years ago—line the walls. They range from minuscule termite droppings to a massive specimen that weighs 20 pounds.

Poozeum’s president and curator, George Frandsen, bought his first chunk of fossilized feces from a shop in Moab, Utah, when he was 18, he says. From there, his fascination grew. “It was funny. It was gross,” he says. “But I learned very quickly it could tell us so much about our prehistoric past and how important they are to the fossil record.” Coprolites aren’t tremendously common but they can make up the majority of fossils found at some sites, and people have learned more about them over the past few decades, said Anthony Fiorillo, executive director of the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.

I am not  big fan of fast food but a new report should scare the fast food addicts into rethinking their choices….

Microplastics are in various foods, including fruits, vegetables, and processed foods. When it comes to meat, even small amounts of microplastics have been found in fast food, including chicken burritos, chicken nuggets, whoppers, and hamburger patties. Microplastics have also been found in ground chicken, corned beef, franks, Italian sausage, turkey breast, ground beef, smoked sausage beef, and ground pork.

Avoid These Meats Because of Too Much Plastics in Them

Speaking of food…..there is a new fad developing…

In my town it seems that every street corner there is a Starbucks, a Dollar store, a sushi restaurant and a Mexican restaurant and now we might have to make room for another trend for foodies…..’onigiri’….

The word “onigiri” became part of the Oxford English Dictionary this year, proof that the humble sticky-rice ball and mainstay of Japanese food has entered the global lexicon. The rice balls are stuffed with a variety of fillings and typically wrapped in seaweed. It’s an everyday dish that epitomizes “washoku”—the traditional Japanese cuisine that was designated a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage a decade ago, per the AP.

  • What’s in it? The sticky characteristic of Japanese rice is key. What’s placed inside is called “gu,” or filling. A perennial favorite is “umeboshi,” or salted plum. Or perhaps “mentaiko,” which is hot, spicy roe. But in principle, anything can be placed inside onigiri, even sausages or cheese—then the ball is wrapped with seaweed. Even one nice big onigiri would make a meal, although many people would eat more.
  • History: Onigiri in its earliest form is believed to go back at least as far as the early 11th century. It’s mentioned in Murasaki Shikibu’s The Tale of Genji. It appears in Akira Kurosawa’s classic 1954 film, Seven Samurai, as the ultimate gift of gratitude from the farmers.
  • Background: Onigiri is “fast food, slow food, and soul food,” says Yusuke Nakamura, who heads the Onigiri Society, a trade group in Tokyo. Fast because you can find it even at convenience stores. Slow because it uses ingredients from the sea and mountains, he said. And soul food because it’s often made and consumed among family and friends. No tools are needed—just gently cupped hands. “It’s also mobile, food on the move,” he said.
  • Some want classic onigiri: Yosuke Miura runs Onigiri Asakusa Yadoroku, a restaurant founded in 1954 by his grandmother. It claims to be the oldest onigiri restaurant in Tokyo. Also a classical flautist, Miura sees onigiri as a score handed down from his grandmother, one that he’ll reproduce faithfully. “In classical music, you play what’s written on the music sheet. Onigiri is the same,” he says. “You don’t try to do something new.”
  • Some want to experiment: Miyuki Kawarada runs Taro Tokyo Onigiri, which has four outlets in Japan. She’s eyeing Los Angeles, too, then Paris. Her vision: to make onigiri “the world’s fast food.” Kawarada’s onigiri has lots of gu on top, for colorful toppings, instead of inside. And each one comes with a separately wrapped piece of nori to be placed around it right before you eat.
  • Customers: Miki Yamada, a food promoter, intentionally calls onigiri “omusubi,” the other common word for rice balls, as the latter more clearly refers to the idea of connections. She says her life’s mission is to bring people together, especially since the triple earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disasters hit her family’s rice farm in Fukushima, in northeastern Japan, in 2011. “It energizes you. It’s that ultimate comfort food,” she says.

Oh Goody more food porn invading social media.

After many years of listening why has SETI been so unsuccessful?

The universe may teem with tiny alien microbes.

After all, scientists suspect such primitive organisms could even dwell nearby on other worlds in our very solar system — in briny oceans beneath shells of ice. We can’t be sure, of course. Microbes can’t beam us any messages. (Though we have plans to look for them.)

But scientists have been getting a clearer picture of why no far-off intelligent civilizations — among the trillions and trillions of planets in the universe — have called us, or why we haven’t picked up even a hint of their existence. A compelling new idea, published in the journal Scientific Reports, shows how challenging it would be for a planet to gradually evolve intelligent, communicating life. Such a world, they argue, would need both oceans and continents, and the surface must be in geologic motion (which we call “plate tectonics”) for at least some 500 million years.

When other factors are considered — such as the fraction of hospitable planets that host any life at all and how long a signal-emitting civilization might last — the possibility of many active, communicating civilizations in space looks implausible.

https://mashable.com/article/alien-intelligent-life-civilization-likelihood

Always room for a good alien story, huh?

Finally, we have been blaming cows for air pollution well now a team is blame a new culprit, at least around LA…..TREES.

In a controversial new study, scientists are claiming that trees in Los Angeles are contributing to the city’s air pollution, challenging conventional notions about the positive role they play in urban ecosystems.

As New Scientist explains, the theory was born of a strange conundrum: despite efforts to decrease traffic exhaust and increase environmental protections, the ground-level ozone and microscopic particulate pollution that make up the city’s smog have remained steady.

Back in 2022, a team of scientists from Colorado and South Korea found that those stubbornly stable pollution rates were likely due primarily to a rise in “secondary” sources of pollution — and in this latest multi-institutional study, researchers suggest that trees and shrubs may be the culprit.

Published in the journal Science, this new research focuses on terpenoids, an organic chemical compound found in plant matter that generally acts as an antioxidant — but which, when released into the atmosphere, can combine with pollutants to make them more harmful.

Upon release from plants, the discharge from terpenoids becomes what’s known as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which end up reacting to air pollution by creating the kind of ozone and fine particulate pollutants in question. What’s worse, plants emit more VOCs due to rising temperatures and drought, both of which plague the City of Angels in particular.

And you thought trees were our friends…..

Enough for this Saturday…..because of the extreme heat right now the best thing to do outside is get all your chores done by 10 am and then avoid the triple digit temps and high humidity while lounging in the A/C….I am old so make that 9 am….

Should He Go Or Should He Stay?

Since the debate a few days ago there has been a wealth of ink passed around on whether Biden should step aside or should he stay the course for November.

I have made my thoughts known….I think he should step aside but then I have never been a supporter of Biden so my thoughts are my own and in no way is acceptable to most people.

Biden has made it clear that no one is pushing him out….win or lose.

A flurry of new developments on the President Biden front:

  • New poll: A well-regarded poll has bad news for the president in the wake of last week’s debate, reports the Hill. The New York Times/Sienna College poll has Donald Trump up 49% to 43% among likely voters, up 3 percentage points from a week ago, before the debate. Among registered voters, his lead is even bigger, 8 points.
  • Defiant: In a call with all staffers on his campaign team, Biden sounded a defiant note Wednesday. “Let me say this as clearly as I possibly can and as simply and straightforward as I can: I am running,” he said, per CNN. “I’m the nominee of the Democratic Party. No one’s pushing me out.” Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday that Biden is “absolutely not” considering bowing out, adding that he “understands that it is fair for people to ask that question.”
  • Acknowledgment: Despite the show of bravado, both the New York Times and CNN report that Biden confided to an unnamed ally that the next week or so is critical in determining whether he can stay in the race. It’s seen as the first acknowledgement by Biden to surface publicly that he might not be the nominee. Biden has an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Friday, in addition to campaign stops in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
  • High-profile lunch: Biden ate lunch with Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday, who is seen as the top contender to replace him as nominee should he drop out. Jean-Pierre cautioned against reading too much into that, reports the BBC, saying they regularly have lunch.
  • Another dent: The editorial page of the Boston Globe called on Biden to leave the race, notes Politico. It’s the latest big newspaper to do so, with the New York Times also on that list.

He does not care what would be best for the country he just wants to keep the spot on the throne room.

Nate Silver, a person that looks at the numbers and trends thinks it is time to go….

“You don’t need another pundit telling you that [President] Biden should quit the race,” writes stats guru Nate Silver in the New York Times. Instead, Silver suggests Democrats listen to what the polls are saying—and they are saying Biden should quit the race, he writes. Silver isn’t talking about post-debate polls. He cites “remarkably consistent” data from polls showing that Democratic candidates for Congress in swing states outperform Biden, and Silver sees this as a “silver lining” for the party. “Voters in these polls like Democratic candidates for Congress just fine. More than fine, actually: It’s Mr. Biden who is the problem.” In short, Biden was in trouble before the debate—Silver had him with a 35% chance of winning—and now he’s in even deeper trouble.

What to do? Silver suggests Democrats stage a truncated nomination process, maybe with two or three debates coupled with straw polls across the country to give delegates at the convention enough information to pick a plausible substitute. (Silver personally would lean toward a swing-state winner such as Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer or Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro.) But above all, Democrats must do something, he writes. “Poker players like me … understand the importance of working with incomplete information,” he writes. “And they understand that sometimes doing nothing is the riskiest plan of all.”

Read the full column.

Some good ideas but time is draw nigh and it will be too late to make any changes and still have any hope of winning in November.

Keep in mind that Silver projected Trump win in 2016 and Biden win in 2020….so he has a track record.

Something needs to change for Biden is looking weaker and weaker both in the polls and physically.  (One report says Biden’s lapses appear to have gotten worse in recent weeks.)

Now there is a growing number of Dems that are looking at VP Harris in case Biden takes a powder….

President Biden’s bid to prove he should not withdraw from the 2024 race gets a major test Friday night when his interview with George Stephanopoulos airs on ABC. Simply put, it’s “the biggest interview of Joe Biden’s life,” as laid out by the Politico Playbook. Even if the president nails it, however, the talk of VP Kamala Harris replacing him as the nominee is in full throttle.

  • On Harris: A “widening group of leading party officials” already has moved beyond the question of whether Harris should replace Biden to who her running mate should be, reports CNN. For the record, the story mentions North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear as in the top tier, with others including Govs. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, JB Pritzker of Illinois, and Tim Walz of Minnesota.
  • The Shift: At New York magazine, Gabriel Debenedetti writes that “among Harris’s longtime donors, supportive professional Democrats, and friends, there is a growing sense of nervous anticipation alongside a hardening belief that her elevation to the top of the ticket is increasingly probable.” The story tracks how this shift occurred in the days after the debate. Harris herself and her closest aides have been careful to stay mum, even in an off-the-record sense, offering not “even any teeny, implicit hint of receptiveness.”
  • Trump: Axios (which previously laid out why Harris would be the near-certain replacement to Biden should he withdraw) looks ahead to how Donald Trump would go after her. “He’d argue Harris is too liberal, too hostile to business and secure borders, and too inexperienced, weak and phony to be president,” per the analysis. On the other hand, her relatively young age of 59 would flip the narrative of which party has a president too old to assume office.
  • Blunder? In the Atlantic, Elaina Plott Calabro takes Biden and the White House to task for a broken promise. What’s happening now “is precisely the sort of moment that the 81-year-old Biden had once professed to anticipate, or at the very least to be ready for: when, after assessing soberly the diminishing returns of his leadership, he would stand aside for a new generation,” she writes. “But if you believe Biden ever took seriously that it could come to this, that he would be pressured to cede his party’s leadership to her, then I have a bridge to sell you in Wilmington.” In the end, Biden’s best promotion of Harris was an “inadvertent” one—his disastrous debate performance.
  • Donors: In a story not explicitly pegged to Harris, the New York Times reports that “many wealthy Democratic donors” have begun waging their own efforts to pressure Biden to withdraw. Some are threatening to withhold future contributions unless Biden steps down—including a Disney heir—and others are planning to direct their money to down-ballot candidates should he remain in the race. The moves “expose a remarkable and growing rift between the party’s contributor class and its standard-bearer,” per the Times.

I am not a fan of Harris so my thought is that it would be a mistake to run Harris….might as well stick with Biden.

The clock is ticking on a decision….one way or the other.
