Now the civil war is an interest of mine, so I do recall that the last Confederate General to surrender was an Indian commander, a Cherokee named General Watie. It was in the summer of 1865 of course, but I don’t know the exact date.
I won’t cheat by looking it up. 🙂

I recall reading that General Kirby Smith, commanding the Confederate Trans-Mississippi division, held out in Texas until the early summer of 1865; and, there were some Confederate naval vessels which didn’t officially surrender until much later that year.

The officially the last Confederate general to surrender was Stand Watie surrendered on 23 June 1865 at Doaksville to Union Col. Matthews.
