Closing Thought–03Jan18

With all going on with Iran, North Korea and Pakistan and the Tweets of the blowhard in the White House an all too familiar news report has fallen through the planks….gun violence….

Colorado authorities were contacted with concerns about the mental health of Matthew Riehl over a month before he shot and killed a deputy and wounded four others. But the 37-year-old man was never held for a mental health evaluation, the AP reports. Authorities say Riehl fired more than 100 rounds in his suburban Denver apartment before he was killed by a SWAT team on Sunday. University of Wyoming College of Law students had been warned about Riehl, a former student, because of social media posts critical of professors at the school in Laramie, reports KTWO-AM. A Nov. 6 email from Assistant College of Law Dean Lindsay Hoyt told students to notify campus police if they spotted Riehl or his car near campus. In addition, security on campus was increased for several days.

Campus officers called police in Colorado in mid-November to warn them about Riehl, suggesting his rants were indicative of mental illness, UW Police Chief Mike Samp tells the Denver Post. Samp says it’s possible that Colorado authorities faced the same issue as Wyoming officials when an apparently mentally ill, dangerous person makes indirect threats. “Wyoming statutes are pretty clear: If someone is not making an immediate threat, they cannot be held for a mental evaluation. They are very tough cases,” Samp says. Riehl, an attorney and an Iraq war veteran, had also posted videos criticizing Colorado law enforcement officers in profane, highly personal terms. Hundreds gathered Monday night for a candlelight vigil for Zackari Parrish, the 29-year-old deputy killed by Riehl, inside Mission Hills Church in Littleton, Colo.—the church he attended with his wife and two young children

Talking Trash!

For a whole year now our leaders have been talking trash…..by trash I mean lies on top of lies…..these twats cannot help themselves they just cannot stop once they started lying and when confronted with their lies they claim “fake news”……

Some of their biggest trash talking is on the field of international relations…..first it was the VP when talking about Afghanistan……

Having made a surprise visit to Afghanistan on Thursday to meet with Afghan leaders and US troops, Vice President Mike Pence is talking up “progress” in the 16+ year Afghan War, crediting the new strategy.

Back in August, President Trump set out a “new” strategy, which was just a general escalation of the conflict, with an unspecified number of additional ground troops deployed, and a substantial increase in US airstrikes.

Pence said the situation is “promising” now, saying that the Taliban have been put “on the defensive,” though of course the Taliban have been in defensive situations several times during the protracted war.

US officials have many times during the course of the war claimed progress against the Taliban, but the Trump Administration’s ever-increasing secrecy about the strategy, troop levels, and day-to-day operations, it is very difficult to gauge by what measure they think things are improving at all, with Taliban territorial holdings still near their highest level since the 2001 invasion.

Great progress?  The opium crop is biggest ever….ISIS is making in-roads in the north of the country…..Taleban is in control of numerous provinces in the South…yeah “great progress”

Then there is Fearless Fosdick of a president……

One day after a massive Thursday loss at the UN General Assembly on the Jerusalem issue, President Trump complained on Twitter that the US “foolishly spent $7 trillion in the Middle East,” suggesting the focus needed to shift to US infrastructure.

This comment was perceived by some reporters as being about Trump’s threat to withdraw foreign aid from countries that voted against him at the UN, as well as lamenting how little influence the US had actually bought.

Of course, the $7 trillion is mostly not foreign aid, but military spending, and as President Trump is always eager to remind people, he is particularly supportive of massive military increases, and has continued and escalated overseas operations, largely in the Middle East, since taking office.

Really?  And yet he has expanded the scope of the US involvement in the region….

I agree with him that the US foolishly wasted these funds in a war that cannot be won….but he was just spouting trash and does not mean a word of what he has said……

These people are doing what they do best….fill the people with propaganda and then blame everyone else when it all goes wrong.

These guys are NO longer amusing….now they are just pathetic liars.

“Mine Is Bigger Than Yours”

I wish that our president would cease embarrassing himself with infantile bullshit….I recall back during the campaign when the size of his hands came into  and he went off about the size of his “other” parts …..a juvenile response……some are starting to question his sanity.

His Tweet about the size of his nuclear “button” does not help…..

President Trump fired back at Kim Jong Un’s claim to have a nuclear button on his desk by telling the North Korean leader that his button is bigger—and more functional. Kim “just stated that the ‘Nuclear Button is on his desk at all times,'” Trump tweeted Tuesday. “Will someone from his depleted and food starved regime please inform him that I too have a Nuclear Button, but it is a much bigger & more powerful one than his, and my Button works!” Trump, who appears to be stepping up his rhetoric against Pyongyang after months of relatively restrained remarks, also brought back his “Rocket Man” nickname for Kim earlier Tuesday, the Washington Post reports.

Like I said….Juvenile bullshit…..and yet there are still slobbering admirers that suck up every word from this liar extraordinaire….speak of lying…..

All governments lie,” as the saying goes, but Donald Trump appears to have taken presidential lying to new heights during just his first year in the White House.

According to an ongoing analysis by the Washington Post that has tracked Trump’s formal speeches, Twitter tirades, and impromptu remarks to the press, the president made 1,950 false or misleading statements during his first 347 days in office. On average, the president says something that is untrue 5.6 times per day.

With just over two weeks left before he reaches the one-year mark, Trump is on track to surpass 2,000 lies, misleading the public at a far higher rate than his recent predecessors.

But it matters not to his supporters…..I have noticed that most of them that I know tend to stretch the truth a bit so as the say “birds of a feather flock together”……

2018 Global Outlook

There is a lot of stuff that could happen in this year…….I am worried about the guy in the White House….this guy is impetuous at best and foolish….his need for flattery will prove to be fatal to American foreign policy……

There are a few things we need to watch……

http://www.defenseone.com/ideas/2018/01/year-ahead-ten-stories-watch-2018/144874/

  • China: Filling a gap vacated by the US, China is extending its influence “with less resistance than ever before,” threatening economies and suggesting friction with the US.
  • Geopolitical accidents: With less trust among actors, missteps in North Korea, Syria, and Russia could lead to confrontations.
  • Global tech cold war: The US and China are seeking new technologies in “the world’s biggest fight over economic power,” while other countries fight for market dominance.
  • Mexico: The outcome of a NAFTA renegotiation and a presidential election in July “both carry significant market risks.”
  • Iran: Tensions will rise as the country pushes back against US efforts to curtail its regional influence. If the US-Iran nuclear deal falters, the Middle East could be thrown into disarray.
  • Erosion of institutions: “The expansion of an increasingly toxic antiestablishment sentiment is starting to erode the legitimacy of political institutions in established democracies,” making for less stability.
  • Protectionism 2.0: A continuing shift toward a new form of protectionism that “generates more acrimony because it is often targeted at political adversaries” poses risks for trade in 2018.

International conflicts the media needs to watch……

It’s not all about Donald Trump.

That’s a statement more easily written than believed, given the U.S. president’s erratic comportment on the world stage — his tweets and taunts, his cavalier disregard of international accords, his readiness to undercut his own diplomats, his odd choice of foes, and his even odder choice of friends. And yet, a more inward-looking United States and a greater international diffusion of power, increasingly militarized foreign policy, and shrinking space for multilateralism and diplomacy are features of the international order that predate the current occupant of the White House and look set to outlast him.

World affairs will start to move and the pace will increase……until they get out of control as far as it goes for the US.
