What To Do For The Berniecrats

Now that the silly season has terminated and Clinton seems to be cruising to the nomination….Bernie supporters are soul searching to decide which candidate to throw their support behind.

For many it will NOT be Clinton……some are looking at the Green Party and others are considering the Libertarians….that I do not understand…..the Libertarians would be more loose with their restrictions on Wall Street…..

I then read a post about this decision process……

Disappointed Sanders supporters are searching for a candidate they can stomach. Is that candidate Gary Johnson?

Bernie Sanders has admitted he is not going to be the Democratic nominee for president, but his millions of supporters are still going through a very public and painful soul-searching as they survey the choices before them.

The vast majority are backing presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. Some are clinging to the extremely unlikely hope that hundreds of Democratic delegates will switch their allegiance to Sanders over the next month. A dwindling number are pledging to vote for Donald Trump, who has been actively courting their votes. And some are looking for a third-party candidate who aligns with their values.

Personally, I am thinking Green Party and Dr. Jill Stein……

Millennials seem to be drawn to Bernie…and now that he may not be the nominee the question is where do they fit?

Few developments have caused as much recent consternation among advocates of free-market capitalism as various findings that millennials, compared to previous generations, are exceptionally receptive to socialism.

recent Reason-Rupe survey found that a majority of Americans under 30 have a more favorable view of socialism than of capitalism. Gallup finds that almost 70 percent of young Americans are ready to vote for a “socialist” president. So it has come as no surprise that 70 to 80 percent of young Americans have been voting for Bernie Sanders, the self-declared democratic socialist. Some pundits have been eager to denounce such surveys as momentary aberrations, stemming from the economic crash, or due to lack of knowledge on the part of millennials about the authoritarianism they say is the inevitable result of socialism. They were too young to have been around for Stalin and Mao, they didn’t experience the Cold War, they don’t know to be grateful to capitalism for saving them from global tyranny. The critics dismiss the millennials’ political leanings by repeating Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Reagan’s mantra, “There is no alternative” (TINA), which prompted the extreme form of capitalism we now know as neoliberalism.

Now I ask….what will be the ultimate decision for these voters?  Will they fall prey to the same laziness as most other generations and vote for one of the Theft parties?

    1. I will be posting on Dr. Jill after the conventions when people are actually paying attention….than for the re-blog….chuq

  1. I have watched American political circus for most of my life, literally. I remember watching the 1954 GOP convention on our first family TV, fascinated by the faceless crowds of people, all chanting “We Like Ike”, whom I knew to be General Eisenhower, as an Army brat, even though only age four. In the intervening sixty one years, I have become even more firmly convinced this nation is insane, for believing the sham that is the American Dream, of a democratic republic responsive to the people, which, if ever a true reality, has been gone for a long time.

Recently I commented in a rant, humans are naturally anarchistic, and, the more I see of today’s world, especially in the political arena, I cannot deny the truth of it. When they(we) engage ourselves in collective activities, which necessarily, focus our energies and attention on matters which don’t actually suit us, but, instead, are destructive to our ability to think and act intelligently as individuals, almost every arena of society becomes imbued with the same delusional misapprehension of reality, which leads to conflict and chaos…

As long as there are seven billion people all convinced politics is something important, and necessary, then our species is denying and destroying our own nature, subsuming it in community, away from the reality of life, to the detriment of everything we try to accomplish as a society. That society is not now in a position to offer us any way to survive in the long run, for no species can last that will not acknowledge its place in reality.

A bit esoteric, I know, but, sincere.. Politics is poopadoodle and will kill us all. Since I’m at a stage in life where it can’t really harm me for long, I can afford to pay it as little regard as it has ever given me..

Which means I don’t have to be nice about it, too… bonus!

  2. It’s a really tough prediction….But in this order, people who actually voted for Sanders will:

    1) Vote for the Hillary-Tron 2016. Because the people who actually voted are (mostly) registered Democrats, they will vote for the Democratic nominee…even if their ballot gets covered in their own vomit. It’s not like she’s running against McCain, or Romney.

    2) Not vote at all…and maybe never again. Thanks to Super-Delegates, the Democratic Primaries were essentially over long before they began. So, as all of Bernie’s naive, Non-voters & First-timers realize it was all for not…they will grow embittered and just check out altogether. Besides, the #1 choice of Americans as it stands is not voting at all. Tried & true, that choice will continue to grow.

    3) Vote Green. Because (last I heard) the Greens aren’t on every state ballot, that will bump that option to 3rd. Most voters don’t even know they can vote Green anyway.

    4) Vote Trump, Libertarian, a write in for Hulk Hogan….or better yet…a write-in for Sedate Me!

Aside from writing-in my own name…I’m not 100% sure what I’d do, if only because some of it would depend what State I’d be voting in. But I’d lean Green. If my ballot forced me to pick from the Big 2….shit!

    1. Well I’m either going green Sedate or writing-in Bernie as a wimpy protest…HOWEVER, writing-in my OWN name has a certain panache. ~~dru the Dramatic~~

    2. There is our problem…if you are not with the 2 parties then you are screwed as far as a candidate goes…..
