To “Brexit” Or Not To “Brexit”

This is one of those post that will not mean much to Americans for they are more worried about who pees where than anything happening across the “pond” unless it is about those darn refugees that are wringing their hands to come to the US…..

But there is a big debate going on in the UK about without they should stay in the Eu or not…..

This article tackles three issues: the impact of Brexit on Britain as a whole, both politically and economically; the impact of Brexit on the European project; and the impact of Brexit on British SMEs. This allows us to have a measured approach to British voters opting to leave the single market on the 23 June referendum.

Since today’s world must exist on globalization…..if the UK leaves the Eu what will be the end game….how will it effect global markets?

A British exit from the EU would make it harder to fight crime and terrorism, reduce Britain’s ability to lead and influence its partners, and weaken NATO – putting future generations of Britons at risk, according to a paper from the European Council on Foreign Relations.

After recent warnings from David Cameron and former NATO chiefs that “Brexit” would make Britain less secure, ECFR draws on interviews with top ex-security officials, regional experts, and five years of data on European foreign policy to weigh the arguments on each side.

“One Hundred Years of British Solitude: Magical thinking about Brexit and security” finds that, as the US steps back from its role as global police officer and the world splits into rival power centres, Britain will need its allies in Europe more than ever. The EU is uniquely placed to fight with the 21st century’s most powerful weapons – not guns and bombs, but sanctions, regulations, and trade regimes.

Americans will not have much to say about this situation….that is until it effects them in some way and then they will be full of shit ( sorry I mean opinions)…..until they they will scoff or just not care…..it is the American way, right?

I know not many Americans have any idea what is happening within the EU…..I am hoping that some of my Brit readers and others will weigh in on this subject.

  1. Lets leave Nigel Farage out of this for the moment….as he relies too much on the immigration issues….
    The real issue is this….
‘But I believe it is the ideal and idealistic choice for our times: taking back power from arrogant, unaccountable, hubristic elites and putting it where it belongs – in people’s hands.’
    Call me an idealistic/realist
David Cameron’s former adviser Steve Hilton backs Brexit

The ‘youth’ of today who will vote to stay in are a dreamy bunch of idealistic marshmallows…..dreaming about the ‘family’ of the E.U.and passport free travel. They have not experienced the ‘hard reality’ of life…at all.
For further understanding catch up with a book published in 1973.
E.F.Schumaker (dead now) “Small Is Beautiful” A Study of Economics as if People Mattered.
Over to Greece..which is suffering under the austerity programme of Guess Who?
I was in Greece under the Colonels for a 2 week visit, years ago…..I have family there….my sister married a Greek…
The atmosphere was ‘heavy’ with secret police watching you….I was in a certain suburb.
This is how Mikis T. (he wrote the music for Zorba the Greek)… at the age of 90 years old sees it…..the E.U. that is….and his very own government who capitulated to the Elite of The E.U.in a disgraceful way.( bar Yanis Varoufakis and he got the boot) http://goo.gl/fb/5C1OOq
Lastly…which far more attention needs to be paid to…is..
an interesting article on cultural differences……

    Good post.
Thanx for the space …..ya should rent it out! grin

    1. Schumaker is dead??? I was always fan. Especially when he drove for Ferrari. 😉

I have very mixed feelings about the EU. I hate Free Trade for numerous reasons; economic, environmental, cultural, political…you name it. But if anyone was ever going to get it right, it would be the Europeans. Unlike NAFTA & all American led trade deals, there at least seems to be some minimum standards & regulations in place and a difficult-to-comprehend “democracy” component. I would be thrilled if NAFTA contained ANY of that. Globalization sucks, but your Globalization beats the hell out of our Globalization.

And since the EU, I haven’t heard a single member threatening war with another member…at least without Football being involved. So that’s a major accomplishment. You guys used to do war more than the Americans.

Passport-free travel is nothing to sneeze at! My mom has a Brit passport. She always left me stuck in the long lines at airports and enjoyed herself in the lounge while I was getting a body cavity search. I thought about trying to “finagle” one myself, just so I could travel Europe even easier. I remember what a colossal pain in the ass Euro-travel was before. And with the entire EU scared shitless of the booze & pork-hating crowd…I can only imagine how incredibly invasive border crossing would become if the EU started crumbling. In this day & age, the ability to “get the fuck out fast” can NOT be underestimated.

In contrast….No Canadian ever needed one before, but as of a few years ago, we actually need a passport to get into America…And that happened long after Canuckistan became part of NAFTA. What used to be “The World’s Longest Undefended Border” is now harder to get through than Checkpoint Charlie was in the 80’s….and I was caught with “contraband” at Checkpoint Charlie!

There are good reasons for & against Britain leaving. Neither route looks that great. If I were a Brit, I’d have no idea how my vote would go. Although, if I actually were a Brit, I probably would know how to vote. But I’m only a “colonialist”, so my opinion doesn’t count. 🙂

      1. Well, I am going to have you up on a few things…..
        Far Right group are ascending…exponentially..
        I,too travelled a lot…and needed a passport.
Open borders allow the ‘wrong’ people to creep in,so does giving Visa free travel to the Turks….that is a bummer …and very naive of the ‘block’
“the ability to “get the fuck out fast” applies to the ‘wrong’ sort of people as well…
There is no good reason to stay…the European Union..instigated by the Yanks(said with respect..grin) after the 2nd world war….dreamy ideals…are great until the fall….of 2007/8 .. it is now no more than a tool for the Yanks….whether we stay in or not…the game is over…the E.U.and Obama is desperate for us to stay……domino effect if we vote leave….look at the Greek situation…the French and Italians want a referendum too….
I do not mind re passports….not worth travelling too much these days especially in aeroplanes….ya neva know where ya mite land! I am up for the 72 male virgins in Gaga land! grin….

      2. p.s.
If one does not understand human nature and I mean one’s own first….then one should not be a politician. Merkel et al ..have opened a veritable Pandora’s box .. Pandora opened the jar and all the evils flew out, leaving only “Hope” inside once she had closed it again.
        Ah,the myths,where would we be without them….

      3. Please Sir,give me the link…I’m eva so overworked…and me sciatica is killing me.:(

    2. Now, Lady P, that’s an awfully big portion of clear information for an American crowd. Trust you to bloody our noses with truth and facts….

As a reasonably objective observer, I’d say this line was perhaps the most cogent for me…”‘But I believe it is the ideal and idealistic choice for our times: taking back power from arrogant, unaccountable, hubristic elites and putting it where it belongs – in people’s hands.’”

I’d say that’s a pretty good summary of the solution to the whole bloody fucking mess we’re in, world-wide….

      Great comment….

      gigoid, the dubious

  2. Generally speaking, I’m opposed to anything with such cutesy terminology. “Brexit?” Jesus fucking Christ! Could they find anything more degrading to the topic at hand? Brexit sounds like something a “Bronie” would do.

And what will Americans think? Do Americans still think? I’m sure at least 90% of Americans don’t even know what a “European Union” is, never mind name more than 3 members. Most probably think a “European Union” is slang for a kinky group-sex act.

      1. Or a 70’s Japanese pop-group about to tour America, only to discover Jabberjaw & The Neptunes have stolen their song.
