40 years ago this year Saigon fell to the advancing North Vietnamese along with its allies the Viet Cong……I case you were unaware…….
As a Vietnam vet I hate to see the US return to doing stupid stuff as it did in my war……from the beginning I compared the wars, Vietnam and Iraq, both wars smelled the same…..we went there under false pretenses…death is the only thing that has come out of Iraq as it was in Vietnam.
This is an interest piece that kind of follows along my thinking back in 2004……please give it a read and comment…….
From the Fall of Saigon to Our Fallen Empire by Tom Engelhardt — Antiwar.com.
An awesome account of this war. How Americans were viewed by Southeast Asians was already established before our involvement in the 1958 best-seller, “The Ugly American”
by Eugene Burdick and William J. Lederer, later made into a movie starring Marlon Brando.
We are too busy consuming products we throw away in short order while trusting our foreign policy with ideologues who think America was anointed by God to save the world, along with the war-profiteers who wrap themselves in the flag as they get rich from their destructive products.
We can thank our media for our lack of any knowledge…..their sole function now is to keep the addictions to the forefront…..consumerism has made us blind to the world around us…..
Years ago, I told a young man I was working with that Iraq and Afghanistan would end up being his generation’s Vietnam – sickening that every generation has to have a war.
Totally agree…I also did my part to try and warn the public but as usual so-called “patriotism” drown my warning out…..chuq
Unfortunately it seems, Patriotism no longer means taking care of the U.S.
Disrespect from cowards
Did you see my post on the vets in Florida? If not……
