I would like to talk about animal watching…….I know it is really cool to go out and observe animals in the natural habitat……but do the animals appreciate this intrusion into their lives?

Whale watching comes to mind.  There is a big business that evolves around trips out to watch the migrating whales….yes they are magnificent animals and graceful and we should do everything possible to preserve their lives and their migrations……..but do the whales appreciate our intrusion into their world?

Apparently not!

A 35-year-old Canadian woman died from injuries suffered when a surfacing gray whale crashed onto a tourist boat, Mexican authorities say. The Baja California Sur state prosecutor’s office says the collision with the whale about a mile from the beach resort of Cabo San Lucas tossed the victim into the water. A firefighter commander says the woman was in a boat with other tourists returning to port around noon yesterday when the whale jumped from the water and landed on the boat. Mexican navy personnel responded to the scene and moved the woman to shore. She was taken to a clinic, where she died during treatment. Authorities have not released her full identity or hometown.

A tragic accident…….but think about it…..would you want a bunch of people following you around watching all you do……and snapping photos to boot?  Just like with sharks……you want to stop the attacks then stay out of their home……whales should have the right to get pissed off and retaliate…….
