My lovely state spends way too much time debate and enacting laws that are just flat out STUPID! The state’s economy is in the crapper…..education is in the crapper…..health care is in the crapper…..and what do they do?

New regulations passed by the state’s Commission on Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks removed an earlier exemption allowing feeders to be placed on or near residential homes. Under the new rules, all feeders would have to be located more than 100 yards from any property line or building.
Unless you’ve got a really, really, really big backyard, it’s tough to meet that requirement.
The state commission now says the regulations were not intended to ban backyard birdfeeders. They plan to review and correct the language at some point.
Until then, Mississippians should beware of overzealous park rangers and wildlife officers who could seize upon the opportunity to hand out citations for feeding mockingbirds — the state bird — in their backyards.
Only in Mississippi would it be a ‘crime’ to feed birds in your own backyard. They are ‘freeloaders’ and we know what Southerns think of freeloaders, huh?
And too many think I am unfair in my attacks against the state of Mississippi. Take my word for it….it is a cultural wasteland…….and now they have moved beyond attacking the citizens to kove on to attacking birds……a lovely place to stay as far away from as you can get.

You mean that all these hard core, freedom loving, don’t tread on me Tea Baggers who elect nothing but Republicans because they cannot stand the tyranny of so-called “big g’vment” Democrats are being told by an all Republican state government that they can’t feed the birds in their back yards? I will be checking Fox News because I am sure they will be all over this big government intrusion into personal liberties and property rights! Yea right, I won’t hold my breath.

Methinks, perhaps, you need to set your standards a bit lower, when considering your state’s obvious lack of IQ points in their state legislature, which, by direct logical concatenation, implies the same neuronic insufficiency to be present in the voting public… In short, you seem to be OVERestimating your peer’s intelligence. I don’t see much difference between what you describe, and what I’m seeing in D.C. every day…. It’s dangerous to forget what Heinlein taught us, to wit; “NEVER underestimate the power of human stupidity.” …. 😉
And, while I can empathize with your conundrum as to being surrounded by idiots, I also must ask, “is there a reason to continue living there?” I can’t say the legislature here in LaLaLand is any smarter than yours there in the delta, but, they DO have a more liberal outlook, and would never pass a law to restrict feeding of birds…. Restricting the feeding of poor people, maybe…. but, the birds are off-limits here on the Left Coast….
