House Un-American Activities Committee, August 18, 1955

Ever hear of HUAC?  That is the House Un-American Activities Committee…….that witch hunt perpetrated by one Sen. Joe McCarthy.  This hunt ruined many lives in the process….everyone was guilty until proven innocent and many were never proven innocent…..

Folk Singer Pete Seeger was called to testify before this committee…..his testimony is recorded below….read and enjoy……

Seeger was black balled by this group and was sentenced to prison for contempt of Congress…he fought it and eventually won his acquittal in 1962 (I believe)…..

I got this little piece in a tweet the other day…..personally I think it is moronic….but no more moronic that the other side of the equation…….

There is not a whole more that needs to be said…….this may seem a bit contrite….but No more so the the crap that the extremists want you to believe……Obama has many issues that I take exception with….but the lies that are spread are just pushing the limits of the 1st amendment……but to some that is okay….can say whatever they want and the same is not allowed by the ‘opposition’………

Before someone gets all pouty…..this is NO different than the made up slogans that are all too present on the blogosphere…….if you dislike these then you should dislike ALL made up crap…..tht is too much to ask…..you see they are right and the rest of the political world is wrong…..and that sports fans is what is wrong with the system you like to call American Exceptionalism…..Stupid Fighting Stupid!

Here Come The Liberals

I read then posted a piece on McCain the liberal…..utter BS but I thought about a piece I read the other day and just had to throw it into the mix…..I am guessing that my conserv friends will take exception with the findings but……whatcha gonna do?

Now for about a decade we liberals have been bad mouthing conservs and the conservs have gotten even by insult the liberals……to the point that you would think that there is truly deep hatred on both sides….a hatred that sounds like it could result in massive violence…..

Recently there was a huge study, I believe it was NBC/Wall St. Journal poll, that found that most of us are really centrists…..that poll was a bit of a BS outing in my opinion…….according to this poll I am a centrist………what they call a ‘pick-up populist’…..I answered the questions as I always do and about a decade ago the result was I was so far Left that I almost fell off the chart…..but now I am a centrists?  Can you explain that?

Anyway……..I have some bad news for my conserv brethren……..

More Americans are calling themselves liberal today than at any point since Gallup started measuring in 1992, according to a new Gallup analysis—though conservatives still far outnumber them. The ranks of self-identified liberals swelled to 23% in 2013, according to the analysis, which collected data from 13 polls spanning more than 18,000 people. That leaves liberals 15 points behind conservatives (38%), tying the narrowest margin ever. Those new liberals appeared to come at the expense of moderates, who declined to 34%—their lowest point ever, down 9 points from Gallup’s first analysis in 1992. Liberals have always been at the bottom of the totem pole. Why the recent gains? It could simply be that the term “liberal” is now more acceptable, the pollsters write, or it could indicate that the Democratic Party “is increasingly dominated by those from the left,” as the Republican party is by the right.

Personally, I think polls and surveys are CRAP!  People will lie and mislead……the question can do the same thing…..but if there is any accuracy in this latest Gallup then my conserv friends need to worry for their future…..

I think that most of us are capable on comprehending what that season translate into….I could be wrong but why not give it a try?

Pete Seeger Dead!

As an old fart and activist I was always a fan of the early protests songs and the folk singers that sang them…..people like Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Peter, Pauland Mary and Pete Seeger……yesterday we lost the last of the greats….Pete Seeger died at 94…..

(Newser) – Pete Seeger, a towering presence in American folk music and activism for many decades, has died after 94 years—and more than 100 albums. The bearded, banjo-playing protest singer gained fame with the Weavers in the ’40s and is best known for popularizing songs like This Land Is Your Land and We Shall Overcome, as well as writing or co-writing folk classics like If I Had a Hammer and Turn, Turn, Turn, the BBC reports. He spearheaded the American folk revival of the ’50s and ’60s and was an inspiration and mentor to many younger singers including Bob Dylan and Joan Baez.

But activism was as important to Seeger as music. A lifelong believer in causes like civil rights, racial equality, and anti-militarism, he saw folk music and community as “inseparable, and where he saw a community, he saw the possibility of political action,” a New York Times obituary notes. Blacklisted in the McCarthyite ’50s, his activism continued until the very end. At a 90th birthday tribute concert—a benefit to clean up New York’s Hudson River—Bruce Springsteen introduced him, saying, “He’s gonna look a lot like your granddad that wears flannel shirts and funny hats. He’s gonna look like your granddad if your granddad can kick your ass. At 90, he remains a stealth dagger through the heart of our country’s illusions about itself,” USA Today reports.

As a nostalgic SOB…he will be missed….and his voice of social change will be silent something that many wanted to do back in the day…..he will be remembered!

McCain’s A Liberal?

Just how far will they go to be more moronic than they are now?  I have called McCain many things, some not so nice, but I have never called him a liberal or that he was too liberal to be a Repub……but guess what!  The state GOP of Arizona has gone to the far Right in recent weeks……

Seems John McCain is getting too liberal for Arizona conservatives—so liberal that the state’s Republican party has formally reprimanded the senator for his “disastrous and harmful” record, Politico reports. At a party meeting in Tempe yesterday, the party hammered McCain for assisting Democrats on immigration reform, ignoring a GOP plan to defund ObamaCare, and criticizing conservative Republicans while keeping “eerily silent against liberals.” Not only that, he kept telling a rather unkind joke about Congress, the Atlantic Wire reports. Congress “can’t get lower in the polls,” the joke goes (thanks, Atlantic Wire). “We’re down to blood relatives and paid staffers now.” But the censure sounds like no joke: The state GOP vowed to “no longer support, campaign for, or endorse” McCain until he backs the party platform. McCain’s office had no comment, but former Sen. Jon Kyl, another Arizona Republican, spoke up for him: To say McCain “doesn’t have a conservative voting record—that’s just baloney,” he told the Arizona Republic. “I’ve gone to dozens of these meetings and every now and then some wacky resolution gets passed.” At this meeting, some 1,600 committee members also voted to abolish a Constitutional amendment allowing the direct election of senators by the voting public, Reuters reports.

Okay, I am NO fan of McCain’s……but this is pushing the envelope……and then there are those in the GOP that say there is NO purity test that candidates must adhere to…..looks like the Arizona twats missed that memo…….
