The author of this piece Chuq, has been considered something of a kook. This from the RationalWiki site:
“Michael T. Snyder is a fundamentalist Christian crank who has started numerous blogs as a testament to his raging insane belief that the world is about to end. He started with The Economic Collapse Blog in 2007, with constant articles stating how the world is going to hell every single day since the meltdown started in 2007. It seems as though Snyder blames the government for every ill in the world, because without it everything would be great.” SOURCE
Not attesting to the accuracy of this claim but it it does cast doubt on Mr. Snyder that readers should take into consideration. I know in the past when I have come across his claims I always sensed he was kind of “out there” on his doomsday messaging.
Yep, Larry he is a whack-a-doodle……I will post him from time to time because there is some validity in his claims….not many have come true but at least it is something…..he does blame the government for most everything……he is just fun to read sometimes….as long as you keep a clear head, that is….besides, he makes my economic predictions appear to be true genius….LOL
I don’t think the guy is a “kook”. I mean it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out if people have less money to spend on “stuff” because taxes are raised or they are forced to purchase something at a higher price than they once had. You posted a great piece here and then agreed with the first commentor who basically bashed the writer of the piece. I don’t get you guys. It just so happens to be a fact that it is the government that’s taking more money from every citizen, or is that not so?
CH, there’s several things a little unsettling here about your reaction to my comments.
The most looming one, similar to Michael Snyder’s, is that taxes are somehow responsible for the economic woes for most people. Very low-income earning people actually don’t make enough to be heavily taxed and very high income earning people are served by government loop holes to also avoid paying a comparable share of taxes. It’s true that the burden with this type of system tends to fall on the middle class but even still they are paying a lower rate of taxes than in recent times past. So taxes really are the big factor here in why people have less money to spend.
In case you weren’t a aware of it there is a tremendous income gap in this country where earnings have skyrocketed for a small group of people while the lower half of income earners have either seen no significant increase in their earnings are have in fact suffered a reduction in wages over the last 30 years. The only area where government is at fault is that they have worked hand in hand with very wealthy interests to allow them to stave off a minimum wage, ship higher paying manufacturing jobs over to foreign labor markets, inhibit any serious efforts to reduce health care costs in this country and curb the activities of labor unions whose earlier wins in the mid 20th century directly benefited all workers with better pay and benefits.
Then there is the case where Snyder employs alarmist tactics rather than cautionary ones about America’s future, much like fanatical End Timers and anti-government Survivalist organizations do. He seems to profit from this tactic too because if you visit his actual website you’ll see all kinds of links that will put you in touch with “entrepreneurs” who will gladly supply you with any and all artifacts necessary at the right price to survive the coming “economic collapse” he prophecies. I don’t know about you but I see such profiteers as charlatans rather than people who can be relied upon to give us an objective view of reality.
But you do and think as you will. Just don’t be so condescending towards some of us who are not willing to buy into all of this so willingly.
CORRECTION: I meant to say “So taxes really are NOT the big factor here in why people have less money to spend” at the bottom of the first paragraph
Sir, if you can’t strike oil in five minutes, stop drilling.
“Sir, if you can’t strike oil in five minutes, stop drilling.”
WTF?!?
I would take Snyder more seriously if he were not posting on sites that sell survival stuff and gold for the coming doom….that coming has been a long time arriving. While some of his predictions are close….he builds on the minor to sell a fear of the coming…..and I do not mean Jesus….chuq
Dear friend, if someone is speaing the truth, no matter the outlet, it is still truth. Let’s not always look for nefarious motives in the face of the truth. This is similar to Sheriff Arpaio’s investigation of Mr. Obama. No one questioned the validity of his findings … his character and motives were attatcked, falsely I might add.
