I’ll worry about the nuclear option when it’s used on something other than judicial approval. The Red Shirts have been completely abusing the filibuster for this and it’s absurd. Something needed to give here.
Meanwhile, of course, they can still do an old-school talk-it-to-death style filibuster if they’re so inclined. Let’s stop treating this like it’s the end of the world.

Note: I do think the Blue Shirts need to be called out given their hypocrisy over how they handed this issue in 2005. Same, of course, with the Red Shirts. At the time, Blue said it was the end of the world while Red said it was no big deal. It happens to be no big deal. But both teams have hypocritically switched sides now that the Blues pulled the trigger and they should all be called out.
Further, anyone who excuses Red’s actions in 2005 with any variant of “yea, well they didn’t actually do it” needs to get dragged out behind the woodshed and given a stern talking.

Further note: I think the filibuster, in general, is nonsense and I expect to see the “real” nuclear option utilized in the next few congresses. I will not be sorry to see it go, regardless of which side ultimately pulls said trigger.
But let’s face it, Reds are going to find it harder and hard and harder over the next decade to do squat at the national level 🙂 Hooray for demographics!
Mathius, we have the same opinion on this situation…..like I said to Larry…I expect them to try to reinstate it when they gain control again….only time and politics will tell how much of a good thing this is….at least that is my opinion on the thing….chuq
