2013–That Was The Week That Was–#2

Just thought I would share some of the bat shit crazy stuff that our Rightie brothers and sister did or said last week……they just get more out there week after week…….

  1. Pennsylvania governor can’t find any Latinos to work for him. Gov. Tom Corbett (R-PA) told a Spanish-language newspaper this week that he didn’t have any Latinos working for him. There are approximately 18,000 Latinos just in the Harrisburg, PA area alone.
  2. Pennsylvania governor remembers single Latino who works for him. A day after saying he didn’t have any Latinos working for him, Corbett suddenly remembered a single Latino appointee working in his administration.
  3. Conservatives freak out over Boy Scouts decision to admit gays. Here’s the ten best conservative freak-outs over the group’s decision to admit gay scouts while maintaining a ban on gay leaders.
  4. Tea Party congressman mansplains his anti-abortion views. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX), speaking at a hearing about an unconstitutional ban on abortion after 20 weeks that House Republicans are championing, told a witness that she should’ve been forced to wait and give birth rather than have an abortion even though her fetus had no brain function.
  5. Top Republican called Obama’s national security speech “a victory for terrorists.” The comments were made by Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), the top Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee. Chambliss defeated a decorated, triple amputee veteran in 2002 by running an ad juxtaposing his opponent with images of Osama bin Laden.
  6. Texas GOP continued its obsession with limiting women’s rights. The Texas GOP introduced another 24 anti-abortion bills this year, but thankfully none of them advanced.
  7. This man could be the next Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. Virginia Republicans nominated an extremely anti-gay, anti-abortion minister who has a long history of making insensitive and inflammatory comments. Here’s his 20 craziest tweets.
  8. RNC chair melts down. In an effort to attack the president, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus threw out attacks so over the top that the Morning Joe crew called him out.
  9. GOP senator says implementing Obamacare is just like an illegal coverup. Because of her efforts to implement Obamcare, Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) likened Health & Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to convicted criminal Oliver North.
  10. GOP senator defends Apple’s efforts to avoid billions of dollars in U.S. taxes. Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), in a move reminiscent of Rep. Joe Barton’s infamous apology to BP in the wake of its disastrous oil spill, apologized to top Apple officials for being called in front of the Senate to explain how they use complex structures and gimmicks to avoid paying U.S. taxes.

Plenty of crap to go round and yet not a single bill to create jobs…..apparently we pay them to be dipshits!

Memorial Day 2013

It is Monday and a holiday….Memorial Day….I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my followers and participants that are veterans…..thank you for your service to the country!

Today’s post will be short and sweet……since readership is down a bit on holidays…..I try not to bore you guys to death with my political wonk ramblings…..

I will take the day to spend with family and friends…….fire up the grill and enjoy your day…I will back Tuesday just as opinionated as ever and as stubborn as ever…….

The Public Swimming Pool

My last day of mental clarity and keeping with the usual stuff I will sink into the lower levels of thought…..I find a companion piece to go with yesterday’s post……..as the old saying goes…..Sh*t Happens!

As a kid I was not lucky enough to have my own pool so I like so many others would go to the local swimming pool for some recreation and girl watching (my later teens)……..I always enjoyed my time there….a little exercise….a little socializing…..a lot of flirting…….we always here about the pee in the pool or the chemical that turns blue when someone pees…..but this story is enough to make me give up the recreation of swimming altogether……

(Newser) – The CDC sampled 161 public swimming pools and discovered a very good reason to keep your mouth closed in the water: 58% of them had fecal contamination, reports USA Today. The pools were in Atlanta, but a CDC official says the findings would almost certainly apply to any city. Researchers chalked it up to swimmers’ hygiene, either because they were unclean when they got in the water or they had an accident. The CDC found another type of bacteria, one that causes rashes and ear infections, in 59% of the pools, reports LiveScience.

Exploding Poop?

For the next couple of days I will give my mind a much deserved rest…..I run across a lot of amazing stuff….most of it is mundane crap (the pun is intended)……but from time to time I come across some reports that are too weird or cool or humorous to pass up……this is one of those stories……..does this fall into the category of……Shit Happens?

(Newser) – The latest thing out of industrial agriculture isn’t too appetizing: Burbling up from the manure pits beneath factory hog farms is an oozing substance that’s charmingly being dubbed “poop foam”—and it’s un-charmingly explosive, reports Mother Jones. The ooze is wreaking havoc on large hog farms, trapping the toxic gases in manure and causing explosions in the upper Midwest—including one that killed 1,500 pigs. The worst part? Scientists are stumped to its cause. Perhaps more than 25% of operations in Minnesota, Illinois, and Iowa are now grappling with the issue, a University of Minnesota engineer says.

The problem arose in 2009 when a gray, bubbly substance was found at the surface of “fecal soup” in some farms, growing to a thickness of up to four feet. Though distillers’ grains entered hog food rations around the time the issue began, the dosing of hogs with daily antibiotics may also have led to antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The foam can be eradicated by dumping in low levels of another antibiotic, the bovine growth drug monensin, but some farmers don’t know the foam is present. Click for the full article.

Are They Naive Or Just Plain Stupid?

From time to time we hear about a politician quoting the Constitution or the Bible and quoting it badly….either they have no idea what either document says or they just make shit up with the hopes that people will not notice…..I have written about numerous violations in the past but the one that I will focus today is the hearings being held by Issa and the IRS…..when the woman from the IRS, Lerner, took the 5th it made a stink….especially from a Congressman from the Tea Party….one Trey Gowdy from South Carolina…it seems Mr. Gowdy took exception to the use of the 5th and said……

“She just testified! She just waived her Fifth amendment right to privilege. You don’t get to tell your side of the story and not be subjected to cross examination!”

May I remind Gowdy what the 5th amendment says……

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

in case that is a bit confusing for Gowdy let me dumb it down for him………

The Fifth Amendment’s right against self-incrimination permits an individual to refuse to disclose information that could be used against him or her in a criminal prosecution. The purpose of this right is to inhibit the government from compelling a confession through force, coercion, or deception. The Self-Incrimination Clause applies to any state or federal legal proceeding, whether it is civil, criminal, administrative, or judicial in nature. This privilege is frequently invoked during the trial phase of legal proceedings, where individuals are placed under oath and asked questions on the witness stand.

He, Gowdy, was showboating for the Peanut Gallery……..I would expect a more professional response especially from a group that carries a copy of the US Constitution in their pocket…..oh wait……I see it is a political prop does not mean they or he have ever read it………

These sanctimonious twats are grading on my last nerve…..the same twats that throw the Constitution in everyone’s at every opportunity…..but until the voters come to their senses and realize what a bunch of self-serving SOBs they elect we will have NO good governance…..and it is politicians like Gowdy that are leading the parade of stupid!
