Which Way Do You Swing?

College of Political Knowledge

Subject:  Political Theory

Gotcha!  No, this is not some post on being sexual….one way or the other…..it is about political theory…..as any political philosopher would do….ask you questions and have you answer and then learn about one’s self……

Are you a conservative or a liberal?  You may take a political aptitude tests that tells you if you lean left or right….but are you a conserv?  Or maybe a liberal?  Could a Marxist slip in there?  I will not give you the answer but ask some questions and see where the answers lead….

Do you believe in……?

Privatization of public services

Deregulation of the economy

A more liberal trade and industrial policy

Massive tax cuts

Monetarist policies to check inflation, even at the chance of high unemployment

Strict controls of organized labor

reduction of social spending

down sizing government

expansion of international markets

remove controls of world financial flows

Are you on board with any of these proposals?

Please all my readers give me their thoughts  on this…..I will explain in the comment section after I have heard from you guys…..thanx for playing along….I appreciate it…..

  1. I hate survey research. Don’t get me wrong, having done my graduate work in Sociology, I do understand the value of survey research, but, for me, I can hardly ever answer a complex question with a yes or no. For that matter, the various scales, never, some–always etc. give me stomach cramps. Complex questions demand complex answers, that said, I am most definitely a liberal!

    1. bwin….though this is not an official survey of any shape, just me wanting to point out a few things to people that say that they are conserv or liberal….nothing wrong with either…just that sometimes they are a bit confused……

  2. I’m with bwinwnbwi on this. Simple yes or no answers are inadequate to get a true breakdown. But I like the thought you present.

    1. lb welcome and thanx for stopping by….I agree with both of you…..people call me a liberal but I am a bit beyond that title…..I tghink that most liberals will see where I am going with this…but I thought I would try…..

  3. I as a strong libertarian and weak economic right-winger..The 3rd Party Central Upsetting the political machine since February 1996 25 increase decrease maintain questions.

  4. I too am with bwin on this – I could honestly answer “yes” to all but two (well, maybe three) of those and yet I wouldn’t be with YOUR conservatives on almost anything – I don’t even agree with everything MY (UK) conservatives do and they’re a bunch of pinkos compared with yours.

I suspect that bwin’s answers would all begin something like “Yes (or no), BUT…

    Me too.

      1. I am an old fart…I try to paint a pic with words….but I will try to do better….Happy Easter w/end…..

      2. I was actually talking to Quin….but if the shoe fits. 😉

What I *really* need is a nap so I can string a few coherent sentences together myself, but it’s not going to happen, so I’ve resorted to posting Britney Spears parody videos.

      3. Gotcha….Britney? The older she gets the less rhythm she has…….it is almost painful too watch it I was not so amused….LOL

  5. The answer……I was hoping for a few conservs to answer this…but anyway…..those conserv ideas are just a re-hash of neo-liberal thinking…..my point is to stop calling liberals insulting names…especially when their ideas are yours….

    1. Ah, yes… I can see that. But then it’s all about “spin” anyway, isn’t it? It doesn’t matter a shit what they say, it’s how they say it that’s effective to their point of view – or NOT! 😆

@runawaylawyer: I’ve argued with myself about that, but the picture at the top says it all to me. However, thanx for the comment and I will think on it again… 🙂

      1. Yes and I just wanted to show my conserv friends that what they think is conservatism is NOT…it is basically neo-liberalism…..most would not know conservative thought if it bit them in the butt……
