One Problem Solved–A Million To Go!

Politics be damn!  I need a break!

It is the weekend and as usual I have found something that will make you smile or make you angry….depends on how much caffeine you have consumed…..

For years now we have had dueling theories of climate change/global warming….this pollutant is destroying the planet……that weather was fine…wish you are here……the theory that we are experiencing a normal cycle on the earth….and then there were those that blame cow farts for all the problems….that’s right a farting cow is destroying our atmosphere!

But now…there is a solution for gaseous bovines!

Reuters is reporting on the solution…..

New diets for cows and sheep could reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, research funded by the Department for environment, food and rural affairs (Defra) shows.Feeding the animals maize silage, naked oats and higher sugar grasses could reduce the amount of methane they produce, the study by Reading University and the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences showed.

A trial showed that high-sugar grasses could reduce an animal’s methane emissions by 20 per cent for every kg of weight gain and naked oats could reduce methane emissions from sheep by 33 percent.

A good day for the climate change people that blame cows for ALL the damage that is being done to our environment……now that we have solved the major problem of farting cows and the pesky methane…..maybe now we can do something about the fossil fuel thing….or how about a genetically engineered goat that eats plastic and other litter?……just saying!

  1. Methane is a culprit in global warming, and the bovine connection contributes to this problem in its own natural way. If global warming continues to melt the icecaps, not only will there be disputes and possible wars over the possession of the newly formed territorial waters (not to mention the loss of animal life that will occur), but the tundra will thaw. There is enough concentrated methane gas frozen in the tundra to complete the global warming cycle that began with the burning of fossil fuels. It will be methane gas and not the industrial revolution that has the last word on the habitability of Mother Earth. Enjoy the rest of weekend, its raining here in Michigan. Take care.

    1. Michigan? Cool…I traveled the UP years ago…loved it! PETA has been pushing for me to eat more veggies…..but that fiber makes methane….so if we eliminate the bovine farts and humans replace them….we really have not solved anything……and the end will still arrive…I think that if we could eliminate fossil fuel (I know…a silly idea) then we could extend our life here in paradise…..(OK that part was sarcasm…….follow politics closely will make you that way)…..

Here in the armpit (Mississippi) it is humid and 75 and that is the low for the day……I miss Spring!

      1. The methane that is bovine based is only in very small part due to farts – they belch continually as they eat (continuously) – as far as I know at least.

Oh… and methane is I believe around twenty times as strong as CO2 as a “greenhouse gas”, but currently exists in much smaller proportion – but it’s RISING (then again, so is the cow population, so that’s hardly surprising).

      2. If PETA has their way and we humans beco9me vegan and we eloiminate cow farts….what does lots of fiber do to a persons system…FARTS…..so we replace cow farts with human farts…methane is methane and the problem would still be there…..

      3. Yeah, well – organisations similar to PETA are usually no more than a joke to intelligent people the world over.
