From the VOMITORIUM
Somethings just make one want to pull a super model and barf up everything you have eaten in the last 24 hours….and the GOP is trying to make me do this…..I resist….but I am only so strong and I feel my fortitude weakening….
OK, we all have heard that Planned Parenthood, NPR, Pell Grants are all on the chopping block in a trip to find a compromise for a 2011 budget…..if you are NOT aware of this then stay warm and comfy under your rock…..and let the adults talk……
The GOP is demanding about $40 million in cuts…the Dems want about $33 Million…..the Repubs want social spending cuts…the Dems do not……what to do….what to do?
Let’s say the Repbubs get there way (do not laugh….there is a possibility that the Dems will roll over and give in) and the funds for Planned Parenthood, NPR and Pell Grants (just a few for effect) the country will save millions and even maybe a billion……that would be good for the deficit, huh?
But wait while cutting social spending the US has pledged to Afghanistan……
As reported in WaPo…….
The United States pledged $50 million Wednesday to jump-start a slow-moving program to encourage Taliban members in Afghanistan to stop fighting and support the government.
U.S. Ambassador Karl W. Eikenberry, speaking at the same news conference, said the U.S. funds will be used to support both the high-level discussions and the programs to woo lower-level fighters from the battlefield. The money will pay for facilitating meetings, as well as development projects in communities where young men have joined the insurgency, job training programs and support for those who leave the fight.
There you go…..your child may not get a Pell Grant but the Afghani government will have money to burn…..this is why we all need to pay attention to what is happening in the world……now the grant that would help educate an American youngster will be used as a bribe in Afghanistan…..don’t you just love this country?
Just think of the savings we have earned…….when will Americans become the priority for these people in “Foggy Bottom”? My guess is….NO time soon!
I support stripping Planned Parenthood of all taxpayer funds, regardless if they’re for abortion or not. Money is fungible. The Hyde Amendment aside, taxpayer dollars frees up funds for abortion services. Strip them of all public funding. Period.
I do not support stripping NPR and PBS of public funds – at all. I don’t like NPR, but I love PBS. We need public television and radio in this country. NRP has a liberal slant, but there are ways to address that issue without shutting them down.
I think there should be more Pell Grants, to be honest.
All this stripping is doing NOTHING to lessen the deficit or create jobs…….if that cannot be the driving issues of the Reps…then they need to resign …go home…play with the wife….let people who are NOT afraid to act in there…..sadly, there are few people available to to do bidding of the country…..only the bidding of the corporations…..personally, I have NO use for any of the people in Washington…..
It follows, lob, that when you strip someone or something of its funds, you are bringing down the deficit – at least somewhat.
Of course, we may be talking about two rain drops in the ocean, but if you remove enough of those rain drops then – you get the point.
What about Medicare and Social Security, lob? The Democrats refuse to deal with those issues, and they refuse to let Planned Parenthood go unfunded. Both sides are guilty of being ideologues.
Medicare and SS I pay into and it is mine…once again…if everyone paid the same into these systems they would be in less trouble….here ya go…..education is being cut right?

I think we’ve poured enough money down the Afghani rabbit-hole.
@Kurt…..long past…..but I look for at least 5 more years……
Whilst I agree with ANYTHING that reduces the size of government and I believe that we ALL, from the loliest individual to the government and country as a whole HAVE to learn to live within our means, I’m not sure what that has to do with overcoming the financial crisis. THAT requires investment and THAT requires confidence and consumer spending. Cutting deficits will do little to inspire that.
Both aspects are important, or even vital, but I can’t see how this will (or even CAN) be resolved. They blew all our money on the jerks who screwed up our economies and I’m not sure there is any way out of this bog! Maybe we’ll all just sink without trace. Who knows? But it’s one HELL of a lot worse than most people realise…
I cannot see why your government insist on trying to bribe the Taliban (like the money poured in will actually reach them anyway… NOT). What a stupid idea. I CAN see why Brits would fund Pakistani aid since they are going to buy weapons worth twice as much (as part of the deal as I understand it) and THAT will increase job prospects in the UK.
Are you quite sure your politicians have not escaped from a secure unit somewhere? 😆
I agree that all this bluster will do little to help the economy recovery…..that donkey is always used in a budget discussion….this is all flash in a pan….they avoid tackling real issues and go for emotional stuff to divert attention…..or they just flat out lied…..I prefer to believe the ploy to divert theory….
Bribing the taliban… yea, thats smarter than helping AMERICANS get an education….sad.
Oh so much more…..
