Must We Save The Whole World?

The Arab world is going to Hell in a hand basket!  The media has finally decided that something may be a story there….when it was Tunisia it was a spot on the news with little commentary….but NOW it is Egypt and by God the world has to pay attention……and it is spreading to Yemen and Jourdan….two more American client states……it could effect OIL and we know Americans would have DTs if that were the case……

But a little reported story of another of America’s client states is just a smear on a news crawler……Afghanistan.  What is the big deal there…I mean besides a costly war that is killing and maiming people shittin’ and goin’?

Fraud and mismanagement at Afghanistan’s largest bank have resulted in potential losses of as much as $900 million — three times previous estimates — heightening concerns that the bank could collapse and trigger a broad financial panic in Afghanistan, according to American, European and Afghan officials.  The extent of these losses make it clear that keeping the bank afloat — something the government has said it is determined to do — would require large infusions of cash from an already strained budget.

Infusion of cash?  What does that mean?  Will we American taxpayers being helping another set of bankers get richer?  And where did the bulk of the $900 million come from?  What in that country is worth $900 million short of the poppy fields, that is?

How much of the missing cash came on the backs of American taxpayers?  How will the Congress hide their large infusion of cash to Afghanistan?  Since the GOP is all ahead full with their slashing and demonize social programs….which ones will be effected by any help to Afghanistan?  Maybe education, God knows it is not that important in the first place….maybe you Medicare….or your Social Security…….who will be effected in the country’s rush to prop up another bank…only this one will be in Afghanistan and not on Wall Street….

Change The Story Line!

So far I have tried to stay out of the WikiLeaks story….I posted one about the comparison to the Pentagon Papers of my day……and recently there has been a concern that the Army PFC that has been accused of leaking the documents may be treated harshly for what he is accused of…..many stories have run that he is becoming disoriented and even catatonic to a small degree because of his treatment in the military brig….like solitary confinement for 23 hours a day….being put on suicide watch for a couple days which took away what little time he had in the air and made him strip down to his underwear and then there is the sleep deprivation….all in all a cruel and unusual punishment….and somewhere I think it is written that that is NOT suppose to happen in this democratic free country…..of course, I could be mistaken….

I will not go into whether what manning did was illegal or not…..or that the people may have the need to know what the government is doing….those will be questions for a trial….if there is ever one…..

Anyway…..these stories are putting the US and especially the military in a bad light….a light that they would prefer to be focused elsewhere…..and some in the media are doing their part to shut off that light on the military……the story is trying to be returned to focus on Assange……

Julian Assange’s wariness of government spooks ran so high that the WikiLeaks founder resorted to disguising himself as a woman when traveling, according to a profile published Monday by The Guardian.

As Assange’s entourage moved from London to the village of Ellingham, the battered red car they rode in periodically pulled off the road with lights killed to make sure it wasn’t being followed.

The media is portraying Assange as this sick paranoid…..all to throw off the media scrutiny of the brig and back on the man they have been trying to discredit in many ways…..and it looks like it is a bit successful….I have seen at least two stories so far about this on cable news media…..and none of the fate of Manning…..I mean some dude dressing like a woman is NOT news……a person that may be in a US military brig being subjected to cruel and unusual punishment IS!

Americans are ALWAYS quick to condemn and slow to seek the truth……if this story plays out as I expect it to….then the point is well taken……

Rape By Any Other Name………

My friend Terrant over at “My Corner To Vent” (blogroll will get you his site….go and enjoy) had a post on the HR3 bill in the House about the Fed funding of abortion….that the GOP is trying to redefine the meaning of the word rape….the wording is a bit obfuscated…….

‘The limitations established in sections 301, 302, 303, and 304 shall not apply to an abortion—
‘(1) if the pregnancy occurred because the pregnant female was the subject of an act of forcible rape or, if a minor, an act of incest;‘(2) in the case where the pregnant female suffers from a physical disorder, physical injury, or physical illness that would, as certified by a physician, place the pregnant female in danger of death unless an abortion is performed, including a life-endangering physical condition caused by or arising from the pregnancy itself.

But there is more…..this is from an actual case of rape…..as reported by Tracey Moore of Nashville Scene…..

But wait! How do you prove you’ve been forcibly raped? With your untested rape kit? A doctor’s note? A testimony before John Boehner? A walk of shame? Or a conviction in a court of law, which must obviously take place in time for you to terminate the pregnancy?

Worth contemplating:

One illustrative example: There was a rape case where a woman was physically thrown onto a mattress by her assailant, and in order to “prove” that physically forcing someone onto a mattress was not force, the defendant had to somehow argue that she wasn’t thrown hard enough. The question was raised of whether she bounced, when she hit the mattress. And in this case, the fact that the woman said “no” had already been admitted by the accused. The “no” wasn’t enough, and the fact that she was thrown onto the mattress wasn’t enough: She had to bounce off the mattress, for this to constitute either “rape” or “force.” The “did she bounce” standard — that is, essentially, what we’re requiring when we require “force” in order to define rape. That particular rapist walked free. He was initially convicted, but the case was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. On the basis of “did she bounce.” And this happened in 1994.

Where will they draw the line?  And why is the control of a women’s vagina an important issue?  And why are babies important to the GOP until they are born…..then they are those people seeking free rides…..when is the GOP going to get serious about the running of the country?  So many questions and not one Repub with an answer…….your vote was well placed you idiots!

All this attention to abortion and the Health care reform act……..and NOTHING about jobs and the economy……and they say Obama does not have a clue…..looks like the pot calling the kettle black (no offense intended)……

2011 Anal-Ocity #7

I know most of my readers think I have a hard on for the GOP and conservs….and yes I can be cruel to those I think are morons….but it by NO means eliminates the Dems from my wrath…..the problem is that they do not make as many factual mistakes as the Repubs….but they can be as ignorant as anyone else…..let me illustrate….

Every 5th grader knows that the US has a 3 branch style of government…..Executive, Legislative and Judicial….common knowledge….if not it should be!

But recently a well known Dem. leader, Chuck Schumer of NY, said in an interview on the SOTU address on CNN ……….

I would urge my Republican colleagues, no matter how strongly they feel — you know, we have three branches of government. We have a House. We have a Senate. We have a president. And all three of us are going to have to come together

A very ignorant thing to say, especially when you are a representative of the people and do not know the basics of our system…like the 3 branches of government……

Egypt: More Troubling Brewing?

Yes, we all are watching the turn of events taking place first in Tunisia and then on to Egypt and it continues to grow and protests spring up daily……could this be a chance for democracy, real democracy to flourish in the Middle East?  A question that is on most learned people’s minds…..but there is something that needs to be remembered……

in 1978 the first demonstrations against the rule of the Shah began…basically it began with people taking to the streets to protest the cruelty of the regime, as well as the corruption and the autocratic rule of the Shah and his secret police….originally the people just wanted the Shah and his goons out of power….and in 1979 the Shah fled the country and left it without direction and then the Islamists took the reins of government and….as they say….the rest is history……

And now Egypt, a staunch ally of the US and a recipient of about $1 billion a year in foreign aid, mostly military and is as cruel and corrupt as Iran was in 1979…..this coupled with hunger, unemployment and other social problems….so far there is been very little anti-American sentiment….but that will soon change….the longer this continues the more anti-American it will become……and then a repeat of history will be in the making…..so far the army has stayed out of the protests……could they be waiting for a chance to topple the regime?

Who will step out of the shadows and take his place as the leader of this infant revolution?  Who of the lot will be pro American?  If no one meets that criteria then there will be the Islamists and they have NO problem coming forward ….they will stay in the shadows for now for fear of exposure will cost them their lives….they will wait and see and when the time and the conditions are right these Islamists will come forward and take their place of leadership…….shades of Iran?  You betcha and it could be as nasty as the Islamic Revolution of Iran……

Do NOT act surprise if all this comes back to bite the US in the ass!
