From the VOMITORIUM
You may think that all is well in the South….but it is not and yes there is still racism….some of it hidden and some of it not so much…..
Mississippi has the most obese citizens, one of the worse educational systems, most poverty and that is not all…….
ABC News has an interesting report…….
Students at a Mississippi public middle school looking to run for class president this year need to maintain a B average, obtain 10 signatures from their classmates – and be white.
At Nettleton Middle School, students last week received the rules for the upcoming student government elections. Students could run for president, vice president, secretary-treasurer and reporter, but some positions were off-limits depending on race.
In all three grades, only white students can run for president. In eighth grade black students can run for vice president and reporter. In seventh grade blacks can only run for secretary-treasurer, and in sixth grade only for reporter.
There are no assigned positions for students of other races and no mention of students who are mixed race.
Please do NOT tell me that things are better in the South…there is still lots of the ugliness of the past there….so, you tell me how far Mississippi has come in the last 50 years…..
UpDate: The school board has handled this situation…..and has done the right thing by saying that the papers were invalid…..but my question is….would they have done anything if it had not made it to the media? Best guess is….NOPE!
I read about this, I think, the other day. They would switch off every year, blacks for some positions, whites for others.
One mother protested because she is white, the father of her two older children is Native American, and the father of her two younger children is black, so she was like, “how do you classify them?!”
This actually wasn’t because of segregationist-type racism but rather from an overzealous approach to integration. (Whenever affirmative action or forced integration is involved, policies are never colorblind.)
I live in Mississippi and this is NOT an isolated incident….racism is alive and well….they can sugar coat it anyway one wants to…racism is racism
Racism is alive and well everywhere, and that includes the rest of the globe.
Racism is a minor problem in my mind as long as it remains in the minds of people and is not institutionalized in our public policies and laws.
We can’t force people to feel and think differently, although we can help to encourage self-examination and the questioning of long-held assumptions and stereotypes.
But I would offer this tidbit if factual information: in the “racist” south, black people are far less likely to be incarcerated than if they live in the northeast and other predominantly liberal areas, especially the cities that are disproportionately black.
I do not care about the rest of the globe….the US is better than that….
A very good point…but yet there are some that would have people to stop thinking politically and act more like those around them…so the dislike for a particular political thought is a form of racism.
That is because the laws in a lot of the South were stacked against “black” people. For instance, until last year it was against the law for a white person to marry anyone that was not white…granted it was a misdemeanor but against the law none the less. Just one incidence.
I have no idea what this means. Can you clarify?
And I am sure that last year it was still illegal in some places to give your husband a blowjob.
Old, unenforceable laws still on the books that people forgot were even there. That’s a weak argument if you are trying to prove that racism is still intense and widespread.
It is still illegal to blow somebody….a crime against nature…and yes these are old laws but they are still on the books and can be used when ever they feel like it…and they do….
Come on Natassia…you are smarter than that…….I mean there are those that want mus all to think alike and that is not a good idea…..especially in politics……when we do that we have a one party system….well we pretty much have that now but for the sake of argument I will say there are two……the Federalism we have kinda depends on the different points of view or we would not need the checks and balances that all are so proud of….
I don’t know about that. Seriously, I’d love to hear about an example of a wife being arrested and charged (let alone convicted) for orally pleasuring her husband.
If abortion is a “constitutional right”, I really don’t see how giving a blowjob would be any less a protected “right.”
I think you are forgetting where the thoughtcrime legislation keeps coming from…the political Left. Whether it be “hate crime” or the “Fairness Doctrine” or the “Disclose Act”…it has come from liberal-leaning Republicans and Democrats.
Conservatives and libertarians (ie the tea party movement) are consistently being flayed by leftist media (ie Newsweek) and politicians…and not flayed for their stances regarding the economy and individual liberty and personal responsibility. No, they are flayed for not thinking the way the liberals think: which means they are bigots, morons, hate-mongers, racists, and xenophobes.
You’re not even allowed to notice that the Al Sharpton rally is predominantly black. That would be racist. You can’t even think that it matters, because that would be racist too.
And since we’re talking about the “racist south”…It was not too long ago that I graduated high school and later college. I remember the self-brainwashing I had to do…constantly censoring my own common sense thoughts. It was far worse to make an honest observation that might be deemed as offensive than it was to go along with the status quo–blacks are victims of white racism. Whites are racist, even if they don’t know it. Etc. etc.
There I was, constantly quieting my brain while aggressive blacks consistently bullied me and my sisters. I was trying to sympathize with them and put myself in their shoes…which in turn caused me to take more of the abuse. My sister is still threatened on a regular basis by aggressive black women. Why? Probably because she is a tiny blonde bombshell who will not cater to bullies butting in the grocery store line or shoving their way through the metro.
No one is fighting for a one-party system. What we’re fighting for is an American awakening and a resurgence of traditional values and morality. And we’re sick and tired of being told how to think.
Be on the lookout for my next piece on traditional values. But it seems that some of the moralists in the movement are trying to tell me how to think and that is just as bad….btw way NO one can telling you what to think and expect you to do it…..
So the Tea Party has NO racists in it? And what was the point of bringing guns to rallies? I do not think that all Tea Party members are racists….I think that a few of the so called leaders are NOT doing enough to promote the ideals of the party, but rather they are promoting themselves and whatever group they control….Freedom Works, etc.
I think the original intent of the Tea Party was noble and sincere, but somewhere some of that has been highjacked by money grubbing individuals.
You had better start caring since your country has an open-borders, non-discriminatory policy of allowing millions of immigrants from racist, third-world countries to come here without having to ever assimilate.
Sorry dear….but I am not concerned with the so called illegals that you are….we have bigger problems than that…but it is a good thing to bitch about at election time to get the faithful lathered up………
I’m not even talking about the illegals.
No, but they can try to make you feel guilty for it and ostracize you for it and label you as immoral…even though the thoughts may be factual and not in violation with ones moral code.
Are there racists in the tea party movement? I am sure there are, just as there are racists in every movement and organization regardless of the organization or movements stat
(stupid iPad)
…stated goals and purposes.
The tea party movement has nothing to do with race, but that doesn’t mean that racists (whatever that means anymore) can’t agree with many tea party principles and join the movement if they like.
Every movement becomes “hijacked” if there is a potential to gain money and/or power. That’s the nature of Man, you know. But that doesn’t mean the merits of the movement or belief system are wrong or immoral.
“But that doesn’t mean the merits of the movement or belief system are wrong or immoral.”
Exactly…….good point for you and anyone…….saying a thing wrong does not make it so…

This is a post from about 3 years ago….I post it today to show that not much has changed in those years……..so sad that all the campaign promises and Mississippi is still sliding into oblivion…..
