Daily Agitator
By now the media is flooded with so called experts analyzing everything that the US commander in Afghanistan has said, especially in his latest gaff in an issue of the Rolling Stone……it seems that he has disparagingly made some unfortunate comments about the President, VP, Adm. Mullen, the head of the CIA and others.
I have heard many call for McChrystal’s head when he meets with the president. And I have heard some call his words unfortunate and lame, but that he should remain at his post in Afghanistan.
He has been commanded to appear in person at the White House for an official meeting and a private meeting with the president. This will be strike three. His first strike was a leaked memo where he said that the prez was unprepared and intimidated by the brass. Next, he made some really unfortunate statements that the prez met him in London and held a meeting on Air Force One. So today’s meeting is strike three and in baseball we all know what that means.
But shoulkd he go or should he stay?
According to the Uniform Code of Military Justice…..he should go. Why?
§ 888. Art. 88. Contempt toward officials
Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Homeland Security, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.
Pretty straight forward. Now if this had been a ranking NCO or some private, he would get busted in rank and some would be given a discharge….none would be allowed to retire to avoid punitive action!
But if McChrystal leaves the military he will be allowed to resign so that he can keep his dignity and his pension and all the benefits that go with the word general. Personally, he should be barbecued for insubordination and made an example of for future morons that cannot keep their mouths shut when dealing with the media.
You’re probably right… but the media IS very devious indeed… and then again, are his words true (from a military point of view)? Of course, he shouldn’t say it publicly, but then theses days…
Hmmm… thinking… Afghanistan isn’t exactly a wham bam thank you ma’am operation, is it? Someone hasn’t quite got it right somewhere along the line – who though?
My days in the military I learned that you follow orders whether you like them or not and to publicly bad mouth your superiors was a huge no-no…..for me it was busted in rank, extra duty and a public whack on the pee pee…..and I was a Sargent…
Thgere are stories that the Pentagon is circling the wagons around this idiot……but that is because they want him in Afghanistan so when things go really wrong they have a scapegoat……they are NOT protecting someone that they feel is best for the job, but rather trying to cover their own butts.
If he’s not the best for the job, what the f*ck is he doing there in the first place? People’s lives depend on the guy at the top and his decisions!
He may well be the best man for the job…..from a military point of view…he has crapped in his corn flakes…….he wants more troops……and since we are to start our pull out in 2011….he will not get them and he is pouting……there is always someone that can do the job….they chose him because of his expertise in special ops…….I do not think him leaving would change too much in the AF/Pak strategy. After all the military is under civilian command and if the general cannot understand that and keep his mouth shut then it is time for him to be out of the military altogether.
Hmm… maybe. Someone has screwed up big time for both our countries in Afghanistan that’sfor sure.
We should have had the majority of the country under military control in the first six months. We didn’t. The numbers used should have have been treble or more and with MUCH more and more suitable and better equipment.
Four times the cost for six months instead of a quarter of what was needed for six years and counting – simple maths – it doesn’t add up.
Further to that, I read a post somewhere (not sure where) that commented to the effect that all the “fuck ups” on all sides both militarily and politically have not been reason to recall McChrystal for consultation and explanation, but a few bitchy comments about the Prez and he’s on his way back so fast his feet won’t touch.
Interesting set of apparent priorities…
On this…if he fires McChrystal he will be an asshole for picking on a great American….if the Prez allows him to continbue….then he will be a wimp….no matter what Obama does….FOX News will take the opposite tack….I would almost bet that the scripts are already written just waiting for the outcome…..
Yeah, tough being Prez. Life’s a bitch, eh?
Military protocol must be upheld.,…..
He went!
Patraeus in!
Military protocol… bu-ull-shit!
Cannot be done…he broke with the chain of command….and violated the UCMJ…..a private would have be dishonorably discharged, but this guy gets to resign and get all his benefits….
Patraeus… hmmm…
A good choice but he was promised something to take the gig…what?
“he broke with the chain of command” – What was the Nazi excuse in WW2 or the similar ones in Bosnia and Kososvo? Ah yes – I was only following orders – my superiors are responsible – I cannot challenge them…
I repeat – bu…ull-shit!
HE was the commander on the ground and all he ever did was to try to provide the best hope and protection he could for his troops and the mission he had been given.
Whatever the protocol and all that crap (as you can surely guess, I was never in the military because I knew perfectly well that I too would not have kept my mouth shut) the truth is that HIS way (McChrystal’s) was and is the ONLY way and it was steadily undermined and undersupplied by the idiots in Washington – just like the bullshit the Brit service personnel got from Gordon (F*ckup) Brown.
Now, we’re (BOTH our countries) going to suffer greater casualties because of all the pompous, uneducated, misinformed and hypocritical vote begging shit that comes out of Washington… One minute they want to ignore the people and do it THEIR way and the next they shit on their own guys for the sake of a few votes from an uninformed public!
Sorry… that’s what I think 🙁
I am sorry also…but the US military has a code of conduct and his words and his staffers words broke the code……I am not condemn him or the Prez just saying that he was dealt with but he was dealt with in a wimpy way…..what he have done if one of his NCOs had made similar comments about him?
All I am saying is that he had to go for breaking that code….he was probably a very capable general and leader….but none of that excuses his break in military code….personally, I think ALL militrary stuff is bullshit….just saying what had to be done according to the UCMJ
It’s time the code was changed then… Trust me, this has nothing to do with codes or military matters – it’s POLITICAL and it stinks!
You know we could go on and on….but I will say YEP….lol
Also some think that they are indispensable….their arrogance smells….Barton is another one…
Yeah, I’ll go with that one… 🙂
