First, I do not know why but every time I use the word Boehner…the word Boner comes to mind……
And then there are reports or stories that make one shake their head and ask why……
In the recent past I have heard the name John Boehner being batted around as a possible speaker of the House if the GOP ever returns to power…he does get lots of face time on TV especially on FOX News, after all he is the minority leader and should be the spokesperson for the Party in the House.
Yesterday there was a “spontaneous” rally in Washington against the Health Reform Bill that is being considered…..there were the usual suspects….references to socialism, nazis, and just plain hate for the president and Pelosi……I watched some of it on TV and thought it was a “white power” protests….the GOP really needs to find someone with a different color face to be in the crowd.
I have written many times on these “spontaneous” out pouring of hate, but today I want to talk about the leader of the GOP in the House……John Boehner got up in front of the 4000 or so protesters to egg them on….he had the usual babble and then he pulled out a copy of the Constitution and said “this is my copy of the Constitution and I will read from it” (paraphrase)….
We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness…….
(I will give a long pause here for contemplation)……..I realize that to be a member of a certain party you need an IQ check but this is moronic…..Boehner was holding the Constitution and reading the Declaration of Independence….you would have thought one of his fellow GOPers would have told him he was screwing up…..they did not….maybe they do not know the difference either….ever think of that?
These are the LEADERS of American governance and they do NOT even know the difference between the two documents….this whole things reminds me of something Plato said:
The penalty good men pay for not being interested in politics is to be governed by men worse than themselves.
The part that should scare the people is…. these are the people that are defending the Constitution….they say so in their oath of office….and yet they have NO IDEA what it actually says….. Do they still teach Civics in school?……
If HE, Boehner, is the future of the GOP….then members should worry or at least run for the nearest exit….
This is a clear case of the conservatives being two faced. Of course the democrats are too incompetent to take advantage of it. After all what are vouchers? They are the first step in eliminating the program.
Yep….it is just another way to privatize anything….vouchers…sounds good but it is not….
In general (after spending most of my life in the UK with so many things State owned) I tend to regard privatization as quite a good thing, PROVIDED IT IS PROPERLY REGULATED as things that are vital services should be, however much a “free market” operates for everything else. However, maybe I’m missing something, but isn’t that a bit “off topic”?
As to your actual post… yes, an excellent one. But isn’t that really the problem? Isn’t Obama in power now not because people thought he would be any good (in the beginning at least) but mainly because the GOP doesn’t know its ass from its elbow. If it did, it’s unlikely it would have chosen McCain and certainly Palin wouldn’t even have been on the short list!
If the GOP is really that out of touch with reality, then either a whole lot of US citizens don’t even know what day of the week it is, or the Democrats must be a really disorganised rabble for not being able all over the Republicans.
Don’t think I’m trying to insult you here, because I’m not, but unless your reporting of events is about as far from the truth and reality as Fox appears to be, then, shitty and useless as I regard our UK government as being, I really do despair of grown men and women behaving in such a childish, schoolyard manner as American politicians seem to be doing at present 👿
No offense taken…..the idea of privatization may be a good idea but it has been bastardized here in the US to mean that business makes profit and the services suffer…..not at all a good thing…..
Obama was a different choice than we have had in a generation…high hopes for his presidency has been dashed by the partisan crap of the Congress and the right wing jerk-offs……I said in the beginning that nothing would change and so far I have been right….
Sad to say that there are a whole lot of Americans that have the IQ of their shoe size (American sizes, not European)….another indication that my post of the rational ignorance effect is alive and well.
