Donny At The UN

As per tradition the US president gives a speech to the UN…..but most presidents touch on issues that represent a grasp of world affairs….and then along came the babbling buffoon…..and threatens genocide in front of the General assembly….

In his address to the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, President Trump threatened Iran with “annihilation” and “hell,” but said he believes there would be a deal after the midterm elections, and said later in the day that his envoys held talks with Iranian officials.

Trump told the General Assembly that he has a “big decision to make” regarding Iran, repeating a talking point he’s used in recent media interviews.

“Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before, maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world? Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again? Do I drive them into hell with no chance of survival and no hope of future greatness or generations?” the president said.

“But I believe we’ll make a deal right after the election because it doesn’t make sense for them not to. They’re waiting to see how I do in the midterm election. What they don’t realize is that I’m not running. I did that already and won in a landslide. We won in a giant landslide, and I’ll be here for two and a half years. The Republican Party is running, and I’ll be helping them. But I am not running. I gave absolutely no credence and will not give credence to the election when it comes to Iran,” he added.

Trump also boasted of his attack on Venezuela and takeover of Venezuela’s oil industry, saying “to the victor belongs the spoils.” He also took aim at Cuba, where civilians are suffering under a ramped-up US oil embargo, calling it a “failed state.”

President Donald Trump lashed out at a CNN journalist Tuesday morning at the United Nations, telling her, “You should not be here covering me,” as the Department of Justice prepares to defend in federal court his ban on that media outlet, MS NOW and Politico from the White House.

CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins had asked Trump about a new poll that found two-thirds of Americans do not think the U.S. is winning its war with Iran.

“When will it end?” Collins asked the president.

“So it’s an honor to be here. I’m surprised that CNN is here covering me,” Trump told reporters as he gestured at Collins, before he entered the General Assembly in New York to address that body.

Collins interjected, “The United Nations allowed us in here, sir.”

President Trump said Thursday he is renaming Lake Ontario to be known as “Lake America” in the United States as he exacerbates his trade war with Canada. The president signed an executive order that updated the lake’s name for the US geographic naming service, the AP reports. Trump cannot force Canada to follow his preferred naming convention, however. Canadian officials have already said they won’t recognize the name, reports CNBC. The move is reminiscent of Trump’s move last year to rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America.”

Trump, who signed the order as he was sitting at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office, had a large sign behind him propped on a stand with a map of the Great Lakes. Over Lake Ontario, in big red letters, the map read “Lake America.” He told reporters that Canada is “the worst” to deal with on trade. “They feel entitled and we can’t have that,” he said. The president had been floating the idea of the name change in recent days after trade talks between the countries broke down, though it wasn’t clear whether he was serious, CNBC notes.

  • The official US-Canada border stretches across the water between Lake Ontario’s northern and southern shores. The body of water forms much of New York state’s coastline and separates Buffalo from Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario. Toronto is Canada’s most populous city and Ontario its most populous province.
  • The lake’s name comes from the Huron Indigenous people’s word “oniatarí:io,” which means “lake of shining waters,” and it predates European settlement in the region. The province took its name from the lake.
  • Trump’s executive order directs Interior Secretary Doug Burgum to “take all appropriate action” to rename the lake within 30 days. “The Board on Geographic Names shall provide guidance to ensure all Federal Government references to Lake Ontario, including on executive department and agency maps, contracts, and other documents and communications, shall reflect its renaming,” the order states.

For those skeptics who responded with chortles when President Trump on Tuesday floated the idea of renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America, well, the commander in chief suggests he wasn’t joking. His follow-up comments came Wednesday on Glenn Beck’s radio show, reports USA Today:

  • “You saw the Lake Ontario thing. People thought I was kidding, maybe I wasn’t,” Trump said. “Because the last one you saw was the Gulf of Mexico is Gulf of America. Now, we have a gulf and we have a lake. It’s very simple.”

Trump’s comments came as he defended 50% tariffs on many Canadian imports after trade talks collapsed, with Ottawa responding with its own steep duties. Trump accused Canada of treating the US like “a state,” claiming it harms American farmers and automakers and warning, “It’s time to teach Canada you can’t do this anymore.” Any actual name change, however, would require action by the US Board on Geographic Names, which was founded in 1890 to oversee such decisions and ensure consistency, notes the Hill.

Just Can’t Fix Stupid

As you already know I like using that term….can’t fix stupid at lot….but according to some there is more than one type of stupid.

Here is that breakdown for you….the 5 laws of stupid….

The most dangerous person in the room may not be the greediest, cruelest, or mentally wackiest. It’s the stupid people you always have to watch out for.

A selfish person usually wants something. Find the incentive, and you can often predict the behavior. The more dangerous person harms others without helping themselves — and may even suffer alongside their victims.

That’s one of the hallmarks of stupidity, as outlined in The Basic Laws of Human Stupidity, a satirical essay written in 1976 by economic historian Carlo M. Cipolla. He did not define stupidity through IQ, low education, or ignorance. He defined it through outcomes: Who gained, who lost, and whether the damage served any purpose.

He used satire and a simple payoff model to make a serious point: intelligence, education, and status do not prevent people from making decisions that harm both themselves and others. The Iranian Logjam

For months we have seen this Israeli inspired war with Iran go back and forth….on again, off again and back on….basically it was an ill-conceived conflict that has become a logjam.

It looks like this is an unwinnable war….but what to do?

In an interview with Australian journalist Tom Switzer, Mearsheimer was asked why Trump seemed willing to accept an arrangement in which Iran is able to demand fees from transport ships in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which has been almost entirely shut down since the US and Israel began bombing Iran in late February.

“It’s very simple… he has no choice,” Mearsheimer replied. “He lost the war. This is a devastating defeat for the United States. Can you tell me what the United States should do to regain leverage over Iran? I actually think you can’t tell me because we have no solution.”

Mearsheimer then explained why Trump’s threats to escalate his assault on Iran ring completely hollow.

“One, he’s out of munitions,” the political scientist said. “Number two, our Gulf allies have told him, in no uncertain terms, that is unacceptable because the Iranians have made it clear that if we escalate, they will escalate, and they will destroy oil facilities, desalination plants, and so forth.”

Believe it or not from time to time I do read the American Conservative and they have a take on Donny’s problem with Iran….

Time to face an uncomfortable truth: America lost the Iran War. It’s a development not only discomfiting but world-historical, marking the pitiful conclusion of American primacy and the “U.S.-led international order.”

President Donald Trump is in a bind. Escalating the war in hopes of changing the outcome would worsen its deleterious effects and almost certainly fail to force Iranian capitulation. But reaching a peace agreement is difficult, thanks to a near-total absence of Iranian trust in any commitments that Trump might make.

The solution to Trump’s predicament, I’ve come to believe, can be found in an unlikely source: a little-discussed work of political psychology published more than a half century ago. More on that anon but, in short, Trump should initiate a “peace race” with the Islamic Republic: unilaterally make a bold concession, invite Tehran to reciprocate, and continue the cycle until the U.S. and Iran have transformed mutual antipathy into constructive relations.

But before I get to the “call to action” portions of this column, let’s take stock of the stunning defeat America has suffered.

How Trump Can Break the Iran Logjam

Indeed an interesting thought….but I do not see Donny throwing up his hands and trying to solve the problem he is having with Iran.

His hubris will not allow such a move…he still thinks he can bomb Iran into submission….he cannot….but Israel keeps egging him on and he gleefully does as he is told.

Maybe it is time to let reality in and face the ugly truth/…..

Hope is scarce now. The war begun by the US and Israel on 28 February has brought death but not regime change. Iran’s theocrats look more determined than ever to cling to power. Politicians who pass for moderates in Tehran have been sidelined. Iranians who dared to dream are crushed. The Strait of Hormuz is blocked. Oil and food prices are up around the world. The US has depleted its stockpiles of air defence interceptors, leaving few for Kyiv, Moldova, Taiwan or anyone else who wants to buy them. Washington has misjudged its adversary, squandered international respect and handed Tehran, which controls the strait, a strategic weapon more powerful than anything it could have mounted on a missile.

President Trump has claimed 38 times, by CNN’s count, to be close to a deal with Iran and turned out to be wrong. Seven times he has called off major attacks in the hope an agreement might finally be signed. His outriders are left to make fools of themselves. On Tuesday his treasury secretary claimed the US was in talks with Iran and a deal could come within hours. Iran retorted that the only talks in progress were with Oman. Trump has said of Iran’s leaders: “They just make me angry.” He just makes them more determined to cling to power.

Around here gas prices have come down a bit and then Donny had to open that useless mouth of his and let more manure fall out.

President Trump is preparing to escalate the five-month-plus conflict with Iran, authorizing a new round of US strikes that could start as soon as this weekend and run for several days, according to American officials. Speaking at Camp David, Trump vowed that “we will be hitting them very hard” to compel talks and predicted the regime would eventually “peter out,” the Wall Street Journal reports. “At some point, they’re going to say, ‘We just can’t take it anymore,'” the president predicted. He added, per the AP: “We just want to win.” Officials noted that the plan could still be halted if there’s sudden diplomatic movement, or if Trump simply reconsiders, per the Journal.

Sources tell CBS News that energy infrastructure such as power plants and refineries will be the likely targets. Those sources also note there’d been discussion about trying to wrap up the strikes before the financial markets kick off on Monday to minimize impact to the US and global economy. The shift comes days after a surprise Iranian attack on US troops in Jordan and subsequent American retaliation. Trump has privately dismissed the interim peace deal as meaningless and described Iranian negotiators as untrustworthy, while Iranian officials say constant US threats undermine any remaining confidence, per the Journal.

Iran took another step Saturday toward widening the Gulf fighting, sending a wave of drones toward Kuwait in an attack that the US ally said it intercepted. The strike added tension to the region, the Wall Street Journal reports, after President Trump’s pledge to sharply escalate the US bombardment of Iran at any moment now. US embassies urged Americans to consider leaving the region, and airlines extended cancellations to key Gulf in the face of warnings that airspace closures could be next. Iran’s military warned countries in the region not to cooperate with the US, which it accused of “escalating tensions,” per AFP.

he flare-up centers on energy chokepoints: Iran has effectively shut the Strait of Hormuz, where a ship was damaged and another reported a near-miss on Friday, and unrest has spread to Egypt’s Damietta port and the Red Sea. Iran-backed Houthis say they are blocking Saudi oil shipments, while Saudi Arabia has hit Iran-linked militias in Iraq, per the Journal. Analysts describe ever-faster cycles of escalation that are eroding trust, unnerving Gulf governments, and pushing any renewed truce further out of reach.

Sources say that President Donald Trump is becoming “exasperated” as he did not anticipate it would be difficult to make Iran comply with his demands.

“The president is exasperated. I don’t think he believed it was going to be this difficult to get the Iranians to agree to a deal. There was not a real strategy for how long or what they should do to get to the endpoint,” an unnamed ally of the President told NBC News. “He did not intend this to be a long, drawn-out war.”

President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a joint, surprise attack on Iran in February that ignited a Middle East-wide war. At the time, the leaders predicted a quick victory that would eliminate any threat Iran could pose.

However, the war has turned into a quagmire for Trump as Iran seized control over the Strait of Hormuz and the IRGC retains a significant portion of its missile capabilities. A US official speaking with NBC News explained that part of Trump’s frustration comes from his advisers’ division on what to do next.

“After all this time, there is no unity,” the official said. “We have had a series of tactical victories, but are facing a strategic defeat without clear policy guidance or a decision about where this is going.”

Best Story Of The Year

This is the best story as well as the most humorous of Donny’s antics….of course I am talking about the pool in DC.

Everybody knows this story for it has been the main meme on social media for days….but in case you are unaware….To make the Pool suitable for Donny’s appearance he had the pool drain, painted  blue, then refilled and that is when this story took off for after a it was refilled it turned slimy green from an algae bloom and Donny got all uppity and started blaming everyone he could think of for the screw up….domestic terrorists are putting the bloom in the water, protesters are cutting the lining making the bloom more prolific

A top National Park Service official now has backed up President Trump’s account that the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool didn’t fall apart on its own. In a court filing on Wednesday, Deputy Director Frank Lands states that part of the pool’s liner “was cut with a sharp knife or razor” on June 9 after a $14.2 million renovation was largely finished—echoing the president’s claims of vandalism. Lands’ statement, filed in a lawsuit aimed at halting Trump’s renovation, describes sliced caulk over foam sealant, damage to surface material, and about 70 fence post caps tossed into the water, the Guardian reports.

In addition, about 70 fence post tops were thrown into the pool, Lands said, per the AP. An Interior Department spokesperson said Thursday that public notification about the damage was delayed because: “At the time of the June 9 incident, the vandalism was under investigation and believed to be isolated. So as not to encourage deranged individuals, we did not announce what we hoped to be an isolated incident.” The Park Service plans to drain the pool after July 4 to inspect and repair the lining, per the Guardian. Officials have yet to release evidence backing Trump’s report of a 350-foot “gash,” even as US Park Police circulate video of a person reaching into the pool in a separate property-destruction probe.

… and as usual Obama gets the blame….

On June 22, while signing an executive order in the Oval Office (via YouTube), a news reporter pressed him on the restoration project of the Lincoln Memorial Pool. He asked the POTUS about his April 2026 claim, when he mentioned that the project would be completed within a week and would cost only a million dollars.

Trump interrupted the reporter, asking him, “Barack Hussein Obama, have you ever heard of him?” He replied, “Yeah.” Trump slammed Obama, stating that he had spent “over $100 million on trying to fix it. You know what happened to it? Never even opened.”

He doubled down on his criticism of Obama, saying that he took the water from the river, which damaged the entire monument. The Commander-in-Chief added, “Spent over 100 million, him and Biden together spent $147 million. You know what happened? Never opened. You don’t mention that, right?”

President Trump talked about his restoration project, which lasted about “6-7 weeks,” and he spent “around $10 million.” He disputed reports that the project cost $16 million, saying the higher figure reflected labor costs. He continued, “They were going to spend four years. I spent 2 months, maybe less. And I have a better product.”

He said that the damage occurred after the project concluded, stating that someone damaged the landmark with a knife, claiming to have pictures of the individual responsible for the damage. Trump did not disclose the identity of the individual, stating that they will see it in court.

Seriously this is one of the best stories in recent history….

One writer pointed out that Donny promised to drain the swamp and the best he could do was the reflecting pool and he screwed that up like everything else he touches.

This story should provide lots of humor in the coming days and I will be watching…..this has turned into theater of the absurd….and it makes me smile.

America At 250

We are less than a month away from the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence….a time when the nation should be proud of its history instead of trying to tear it apart…..but that thought is so yesterday.

As the nation approaches its 250th Anniversary, Americans should be entering a moment of pride, reckoning, and aspiration — honoring our founding ideals, confronting our injustices, and committing to a shared, inclusive future. But millions cannot reach that place. They are living in a country where the most basic democratic promise — that no one, not even the president, is above the law — is no longer true. And they are asking a question no democracy should ever force its people to ask: How do you confront injustice when leaders erase the history, hide the evidence, excuse the wrongdoing, and protect the perpetrators?

People are watching January 6 perpetrators not only be pardoned, but now discussed as victims deserving compensation — while others who committed far lesser offenses remain in prison. They are watching families who lost loved ones, officers who were attacked, and judges who were threatened receive no acknowledgment, while those who carried out the violence are elevated. They are watching Epstein victims still seeking closure while Maxwell lives comfortably. And they are watching Congress and the courts fail to check a president who intimidates, retaliates, enriches himself, and bends institutions to serve him.

This is not a moment of national pride. It is a moment of national disorientation. People are trying to live their lives, raise their families, and hold onto hope while watching the guardrails of democracy bend in plain sight. They see a president who rewards loyalty over law, who uses public office for personal gain, who threatens opponents, and who treats institutions as tools for retribution. They see leaders in Congress who enable it, courts that hesitate to confront it, and a political culture that shrugs at behavior that would once have ended careers.

Selective accountability. Truth rewritten. History sanitized. Wrongdoing reframed as patriotism. Victims forgotten. Perpetrators elevated. This is the opposite of the ideals the nation claims to honor.

Power corrupts — not only through threats and retaliation, but through the steady misuse of public authority for personal benefit. In this administration, corruption is carried out in public view: foreign payments and business entanglements that raise emoluments concerns, political loyalty rewarded with pardons, critics targeted with state power, and federal agencies pressured to serve the interests of one individual rather than the nation. This is what happens when power goes unchecked — when institutional guardrails are weakened, ignored, or deliberately dismantled, and the public is taught to expect impunity rather than accountability.

It is a far cry from the 200th anniversary celebrations from 1976….

This anniversary will be remembered for the tacky and infantile displays from a president with the IQ of his shoe size.

We are celebrating our 250th year of existence and Uncle Donny has the perfect event that will explain his administration to the nation and the world.

The White House South Lawn is getting a temporary makeover, the BBC reports. Construction is underway on an octagonal wire-mesh UFC cage and temporary arena outside the White House, ahead of a June 14 fight card marking 250 years of American independence that President Trump has billed as UFC’s “biggest event” yet. (June 14 is also Trump’s 80th birthday, the New York Times reports.)

UFC Freedom 250, as the event is called, will feature two title bouts: Brazil’s Alex Pereira vs. France’s Ciryl Gane for the interim heavyweight belt and Georgia’s Ilia Topuria vs. interim champ Justin Gaethje at lightweight. UFC president Dana White says about 4,300 people—largely military personnel—will watch on the lawn, while as many as 100,000 people will be allowed to watch the fight for free at the nearby White House Ellipse grounds. Ringside, there will be a full marching band providing music, the Guardian reports.

There will be no public ticket sales, though VIP “high roller” special access packages are reportedly being offered to some for $1.5 million. Parent company TKO Group says the UFC won’t profit and is treating the spectacle as a long-term investment. It will be the first professional sporting event staged on White House grounds and comes amid a series of Trump-era renovations, including added gold accents in the Oval Office, a new patio over the former rose garden, a refurbished Lincoln Bedroom bath, and a rebuilt East Wing to accommodate Trump’s new ballroom. The president is also planning an IndyCar street circuit racing event in August that will go past the US Capitol, Washington Monument, and other iconic sites.

“Idiocracy” Is Coming True!

About ten years ago I went to see a film by Mike Judge about the decline of the American people into a dystopian future where the population became idiots.  The movie was ‘Idiocracy’.

Since then I have watched their view of the future become more and more prophetic.

And now the news is not very encouraging abut the mental make-up of the people of this country….

For the first time in recorded human history, scientists have discovered a generation they claim is actually less intelligent than the one that came before it.

Neuroscientist Dr Jared Cooney Horvath, who previously worked as an educator, argues that people in Gen Z have become cognitively stunted as a result of their over-reliance on new technology, like smartphones.

With records being kept on academic achievement for the past 200 years, this sudden decline from Millennials to Gen Zers was attributed to this rapid digital development, with Dr Horvath explaining before a Senate committee last month that this drop happened despite young people spending longer than ever in school.

Gen Z are the first age group to grow up with easy access to the internet both at home and in school, which Dr Horvath explained has caused a provable loss in skills related to problem solving, reading, memory, math, and paying attention in class.

The Mail reports that Horvath told the Commerce, Science, and Transportation committee that this is directly tied to the rise of ‘educational technology’ in school, where teachers rely on tablets or computers in school as part of the learning process.

The neuroscientist claimed that humans had not developed over the course of millions of years of evolution to digest short video clips and sentences and convert them into understanding and memory, without having to work at a novel or think through a complex idea.

On January 15, Horvath told the committee: “More than half of the time a teenager is awake, half of it is spent staring at a screen.

“Humans are biologically programmed to learn from other humans and from deep study, not flipping through screens for bullet point summaries.”

Continuing his argument about human evolution, Horvath explained that, as social creatures, we had developed to learn from each other in face-to-face discussions. Not a short YouTube video or AI summary.

Even the act of looking at a screen can disrupt the process through which our brains store information, as well as hurt our ability to focus. He also argued that it was not a case of developing better apps, but returning to how humanity had evolved to process information.

Horvath said: “The answer appears to be the tools we are using within schools to drive that learning.

“If you look at the data, once countries adopt digital technology widely in schools, performance goes down significantly.”

Calling for a sea change in how those in power look at education, Horvath asked legislators: “What do kids do on computers? They skim.

“So rather than determining what do we want our children to do and gearing education towards that, we are redefining education to better suit the tool. That’s not progress, that is surrender.”

Homeland Security chief Kristi Noem met with President Trump in the Oval Office for two hours Monday evening, reports the New York Times. It’s seen as the latest sign of Trump’s quick pivot on Minneapolis after a bipartisan backlash over the shooting of protester Alex Pretti. Noem’s job appears safe, according to the Times, but she has been essentially replaced in Minneapolis by border czar Tom Homan. Also out of Minneapolis is Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino. Both he and Noem, along with Stephen Miller, had quickly painted Pretti as a domestic terrorist out to kill federal agents, but the backlash ensued when video and eyewitnesses contradicted that narrative.

Trump fielded calls on Sunday from Republicans including Sen. Lindsey Graham warning him that the White House’s immigration agenda was at risk because of the grim TV images, and that Trump needed to make moves quickly, reports the Wall Street Journal. Getting rid of Bovino was an easy first step, per Axios. “He’s a cowboy, and it was a mess,” a source familiar with the president’s thinking tells the outlet. “It was only escalation, and no one was going to back down. Homan going in is a good thing. Someone needed to step in.”

Trump also adopted a much friendlier tone toward Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz after the two spoke by phone on Monday. The Journal reports on part of a deal they struck: Trump would pull some federal agents out of the city if Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey provided more cooperation to the remaining agents who are trying to arrest people in the US illegally. The first agents are expected to leave on Tuesday. House Democrats, meanwhile, plan to open an investigation into Noem next week as part of a push to impeach her, reports the Washington Post.
