May I see a show of hands of everyone that remembers the Obama transparency plank in his campaign? Just as I thought just about everyone remembers and liked the idea of Washington doings being transparent and available to the public. Sad to say. it is a bit slow on the uptake.
Writing for the LA Times, Tom Hamburger and Peter Nicholas:
As the watchdog of the government’s massive bailout of the financial sector, Neil M. Barofsky had a simple question: What had the nation’s banks done with all their bailout money?
Can’t be answered, said the Treasury Department, because of the way banks move money internally. The department declined to put the question to the banks.
So basically what they are saying is that the banks are refusing to say where the taxpayer’s money is going and what it is being used for or why is it being used for that.
Once again, as I have been saying all along, Wall Street is making the rules and Main Street has to live with them. Your money is being used to help make money for these banks and they do not feel you have the right to ask them to be accountable.
Good work if you can get it……and this very place and time in history will be visited again.
